Grateful
* for a life that is so full and busy, that I often forget to come here and post.
* for the love that binds my family together.
* for the health of my amazing son and my two beautiful granddaughters
* for Mondays and Wednesdays. After school visits and pre soccer practices dinners.
* for being organized and ready to leave for Europe in the AM!

REMINDER—-I will be somewhere mid air on the 31st. Will someone please set up the April thread for this team? Thank you thank you. One more thing to be grateful for…

Thankful that, the first thing my Mom said to me this morning was, "Did you sleep ok? I didn't. I'm sorry." (we'd had a major conflict, I told her I was sorry, and she stayed mad.) We got through it, and we are better today. And she said, "It is NOT all your fault" which is pretty much my default mode, "it is all my fault, if I were a better person, this wouldn't happen."

I need to learn not to do that.

Sis' kitty showed up AFTER the vet appointment was cancelled and rescheduled. What perfect timing. (not!) But grateful she is not gone, she was just hiding out.

Grateful for my sweet Rosy, who stayed with both of us during the conflict, switching off who she was with. She is a blessed of God in so many ways, our own little doggie angel.

Kim and Rosy, a heart team

Thx KALIGIRL! Maha our tabby is named Jasper. Mr. Big does take after his father in the size department, but his mother has done well with his Weightloss and he is down since this was taken to a healthy weight, though still large. Also as we all know the camera adds an extra 10 ounces.

Today I am thankful for:

CBS Sunday Morning. Weve watched it from the start 40 years ago, and love the good news shown about people doing good, and living good. Also art, music, theater, architecture, etc.

extra rest, ice, and pain meds

not snacking much and what I did was good quality.

planting more veggies in our urns.

take care, bob

Today I'm thankful for:

no exercisers remorse upon awakening. Just usual aches and pains.

working at a beautiful site, with things blooming everywhere.

not falling when I was going down an incline to get the best angle for a photograph. Not one of my brighter moves.

fun going around shooting photos at this site- excepting aforesaid stupidity.

good food choices at meals and very few snacks- good quality ones also.

weekend!

Take care, have a good weekend! bob

Stephanie you might just be able to twist my arm to talk about plants....but youll never be able to shut me up! Px and plant list tomorrow, Grandpa is whupped....tired wise, not the other which is obvious- wife and cat.

Today I am thankful for:

passing on my fav energy bar when I got fluids this morning. I got a low carb, very low sugar, good protein one I found there instead.

reining in a talk I had with an employee and moving it from contentious to comfortable training.

pruning my roses this morning. I do jobs pretty often, but rarely my own.

a great workout with my wife! We were both bummed I missed earlier in the week, so I changed my work schedule and went. My knee was sore when I started, but held up great, and I rode the most I ever have indoors- 10 miles / 35 minutes (2x not at once). Im amazed my knee held up.

great water intake today, thanks to workout.

take care, bob

Bob - I want a pic of the cherry blooms, please!!! AND what veggies did you plant in your deck urns?
Ann - Totally get it on the feedback our bodies give us when we're pushing!
Sandra - Hope the pool went well ... great exercise for the knees!

Today I'm grateful for:

-Friends who do well with spontaneity (although I'm normally a pretty big planner)
-Walking the labyrinth at Unity Village under that super moon; stunning (moonbathing indeed, Ann!!!) emoticon
-Being greeted as we arrived by two gorgeous calves (two of us to walk the labyrinth and two deer to greet us), then seeing a small herd (8-10) nearby as we were leaving
-Still feeling energized today, despite staying up 1-2 hours later than usual
-Abundant sunshine emoticon and driving to work with my sunroof open! Aaaaaah ...
-Getting nearly an hour of exercise in yesterday emoticon emoticon
-My lunch ... picture pretty and full of colors (green/red/black/white/purple/orange/yello
w); I've taken to counting the colors in my meals, kind of fun emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Have a great day all -

Stephanie

Today I am thankful for:

planting veggie urns on our deck!

hearing from an old, trained employee who might come back.

beautiful weeping cherries blooming away. Having a fun photo shoot with my wife and the cherries. Good light for cherries, but not so much for my wife- squinting in all but a few, but got some cute keepers.

THE SPRING

Spring has returned! Everything has returned!
The earth, just like a schoolgirl, memorizes
Poems, so many poems. ... Look, she has learned
So many famous poems, she has earned so many prizes!

Teacher was strict. We delighted in the white
Of the old man's beard, bright like the snow's:
Now we may ask which names are wrong, or right
For "blue," for "apple," for "ripe." She knows, she knows!

Lucky earth, let out of school, now you must play
Hide-and-seek with all the children every day:
You must hide that we may seek you: we will! We will!

The happiest child will hold you. She knows all the things
You taught her: the word for "hope," and for "believe,"
Are still upon her tongue. She sings and sings and sings.

~ Delmore Schwartz ~

Today I'm grateful for:

-Dinner with a friend
-Taking extra time for me this morning before work that made a big difference
-Pushing myself at work today intentionally to make the rest of the week easier
-My prioritization skills, combined with a breakdown list = my master plan at home; it's all been rolling around in my head (that's how I write too), now to sit down and spew it onto paper and start crossing off little pieces!
-Notice that the organic farmer's market is moving back outside soon; so exciting as I love my Saturday mornings at the market
-Asparagus rolling in as my heirloom oranges roll out ... seasonal variety and color
-My company incentive program that starts in a few weeks is all about eating the rainbow, a theory I've loved and used for years, but reinforcing keeps me on good track

Have a great evening all -

Today I am thankful for:

finally having some calls about our jobs available. Last week was super dead.

my wife pushing on to workout today without me. I hated missing going with her, but Im so proud of her going. My mid-back and low back was in too much pain for me to go.

seeing John Oliver last night. Intelligent, humorous and topical. Kudos for interviewing Monica Lewinsky, 20 years overdue that she got a sympathetic forum.

Today I'm grateful for:

-Recognizing the aftershocks when they happen and being gentle with myself
-Dear friend who called to offer to share a recipe she cooked, one I gave her long ago that makes a LOT of healthy food
-Community radio show host playing Beth's "Blues in Paradise" title cut at the top of her show Saturday, unaware of the significance of the date (no coincidence, given past history)
-Both my sister, and Netflix itself, recommending a new show for me called After Life
-Cassie, Cleo and Rosie, the best
-The return of the mourning doves as I just watched a big one take a drink out of my water gardens; I love their beautiful cooing song, quite mournful ...
-Envisioning a master plan to help me get my house back in order for the spring!

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

Grateful for: sunny days. It may be only 20 degrees, but it is sunny! Hoping we don't get our big four: rain, hail, sleet, and then snow today. LOL. That's happened two days in a row, weather is interesting around here.

Grateful also for our beautiful big lakes, for the ability to follow the Appalachian Trail Hikers as they begin or go through the hike, and appreciating the differences between the men & women hikers. Such mental differences, and how nicely it balances out between the two mental and physical approaches to a through hike. Humans are amazing, and I am grateful for that.

Loving the expressions of gratitude to the trail angels, who take time (and money) to go to the trail approaches to provide warm food, water, comfort for the thru-hikers. What an amazing community.

Kim - Thanks so much for sharing Annie with us! She was a beauty!
Bob - You always manage to make me smile and occasionally give me a belly laugh.
Sandra - You're an inspiration with the knees; hang in there, but remember that slow and steady wins the race
Ann - I'm so glad you've been able to enjoy walking more; wish we could have a walk and talk together!
Kaligirl - You are amazing! And I'm enjoying the sunshine as much as you are! I always love seeing that emoticon in your ever-positive posts!
Maha (last, but certainly not least) - I'm so excited for Adelaida's arrival. I know what this means to you!
And if I forgot anybody, it was NOT intentional ...

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-This space; coming here tonight when I really didn't want to, which is usually when I need to the most, so here I am
-Filling my day with mostly healthy things (could have done without the CPA visit, but that's another story)
-Memories ... memories and music ... something that can never be taken from me
-The beautiful voice and soul of Beth Scalet (who seems to be appearing regularly now in our community forum - ha!) - forever etched onto recordings and in my mind; I can close my eyes and see her as she sings her songs
-Escaping to the woods on a beautiful day, to a favorite nature preserve
-My drive there (nearly an hour) allowed for sunroof-open traveling and Ms. Scalet on the car stereo to honor the date (where does 5 years go?)
-Waterfall rushes and babbling brooks, just what the doctor ordered
-Doing three smaller bouts of exercise today (still testing that knee and today's uphill hike to the waterfalls was the bigger test)
-Candles, one is lit to shine the light of love out to the universe and see if anybody's there to catch it ...
-These three 4-legged kitty girls I live with; we're going to spend the night hanging together for some good R&R and they're the best little nurses I know!

Thanks to each of you for your unique and special spirit. The fact that we are here together is, in my mind, no accident. You have each touched me deeply in different ways and sharing your soul here as we go through life's struggles together enhances my own gratitude practice immeasurably ... bowing in gratitude ...

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

Picture below. I have a better one with the light in her face. Beautiful cat in so many ways.

Grateful for so much... good vet school, and providence giving me a vet there who had LOTS of experience treating her condition. Cats that fall out of high rise apartments often have a similar injury, but I think she was thrown by a small child and hurt.

Annie really was a dear. Just don't touch the side of her body! Or her tummy, or.... ok, she was a mite grumpy. :) She had surgery to repair a diaphragmatic hernia, which resulted in her stomach and liver going into her thoracic cavity and collapsing a lungh. She had to visibly pump her body to get her lung to inflate, had little energy, and was barely thriving. After surgery, zoom.

her tenacity and her personality was very much formed by that experience. I am grateful for the kind comments here! Thanks for letting me talk about her, I miss her still. And I am grateful to have had her in my life. She taught me a lot about not giving up, tenacity, and that cats can listen to you and understand. mind you, I don't expect them to OBEY. But they clearly did understand. I told Annie about Rosy's advent in these terms, "We're going to get a little Bridie in here, but it isn't going to act like Bridie. you need to be nice to her... " and sure enough, Annie was nice to the new puppy. Within reason. LOL!

Today I am thankful for:

being able to sleep on my side for the last couple of weeks. Thanks to the PT my shoulder is much better. Its really hard when its bad because when I cant get to sleep, I do much better on my side than my back.

my lower back making progress today.

a nice Breakfast out with my wife. I had to cool it chatting up the young ladies a bit, but all went smoothly- hah! Had unsweetened tea and brought Stevia, which cut out a lot of sugar from the & tea I have been having since going cold Turkey with the Diet Coke 6 mo. ago.

another lovely Spring day. I have finished the days office work, and after sparking Im hoping to get a couple of hours planting the deck urns.

a concert tonight! A favorite local Irish traditional music group we like is doing a St. Patricks Day concert. Im hoping to have time to check on my traditional outfit to wear by checking out a Riverdance video.

take care, bob

-today's scones turned out better
-for nice calls from the little girls, even though all three are sick
-to be able to spend some time pulling weeds with the sun hot on my back
-for some good conversation with my son

Update, by the end of the I Love Bob album by Beth, I was starting to think it wasnt about me . but by the other Bob.Dylan..nah. I reaized he is a legendary musician, writer, but pashaw and hah! How many beautiful gardens did he create! Set and match!
Sandra Im always available to give advice I never followed, but later realized was right!

Today I am thankful for:

a beautiful Spring day! Coolish, breezy, fresh, and sunny!

losing 1.7 lbs. yesterday after my workout day. Would have been more, but I had a late snack....meal to get my sugar through a procedure the next day!

I could indeed walk after my hard workout out yesterday! Yippee! My knee hurt a bit, but very little given how much I did. My low back wasnt happy, but yay I had a procedure to help it..

having my Dr. do an epidural on my lower back. This one was more painful than last year, but hopefully can be even close to as good. Last year it was so effective and brought me amazing relief.

having my wife to take me to my many need a driver procedures. I always appreciate her help and thank her. I couldnt have done it without her, my legs were numbish and wobbly afterward, cant imagine how hard is for someone on there own.

some sleep afterward, which helped me catch up some. And a quiet day that helped my anxiety ( doesnt hurt my doctor has you take Valium- then uses locals) ahhhh, ouchy, ahhhh, ouchy.

take care, bob

-for a beautiful walk in the sun today, longer than I've managed in ages
-for lots of ways to try to calm back pain, even if it's just distraction
-to see people's faces light up with laughter and delight
-my friends' potluck lands on St Patrick's Day this month, adding a challenge to the what to bring question
-to love playing the piano even though it's out of tune and the tuner hasn't been willing to risk the mountain road in the weather

Kim, great story, big smile on my face. Our first tiny cat was just like that. Our current big ole feisty Tabby is surprisingly sweet at the vet, go figure. Stephanie, I like the many little steps and the priorities. Oh and kitty px!

Today I am thankful for:

a CT scan today instead of a MRI. Yay happy shoulder!

a nice stroll with my girl in the garden of our old house- our new house is next to it. So many beautiful flowers..and a lot of cleanup needed.

a really nice, hardish work-out at the Y. I was able to bike 33 minutes / 9 miles- had to split it into two sets my knee wouldnt allow all at once. The last time I did 30+ minutes of aerobic exercise was at PT- 2006 ish. I also did a recumbent elliptical thing for a while. Hope I can walk in the morning.

the first time, since I have had my Apple Watches, that I went over the 30 minute mark for exercise- aerobic- in a day. My previous high was 23 min. and today I got 43 minutes!

a new Randy Rainbow video!!! Luv, luv, luv him! So creative, so witty, and he rocks pink glasses! This one was great, but not quite to the heights of Rudy and the Beast, Daca Shame, and Putin on the Ritz! Do your self a favor (liberals) and watch a few on YouTube.

tonights musical accompaniment, Beth Scalet, Its a Living album. Im late to the show, but really appreciate Stephanie guiding me to her beloved Beths music. Im half way through another album and for some reason it might be my favorite Beth Loves Bob! Catchy name for an album! Oddly all the songs are Bob Dylans...anywhooo Im sure the part about me will be up soon.

take care, bob

@VALERIEMAHA envious of your kitty behaving well. My beloved Annie who is now gone weighed at most 7 pounds, maybe 8.8 pounds at her heaviest. She was tiny. And much feared by the veterinary staff. They have minimal restraint techniques now and are moving toward more positive work with pets, but when she was a live, not so much. She was voted the 2nd worst cat in the practice. Oh dear. She was so sweet to me and only me. Loved her dearly.

so that's my gratitude, that I had the chance (and the money) to save a beautiful cat with tons of personality that I loved and who loved me. Despite the fact that she wanted to murder the vet asisstants....

Also grateful for a wonderful chiropractor, who in two visits has made me feel so much better. Wow... and grateful for a massage therapist who has given me great advice and helped me so much to feel better. IT band issues coming from back misalignment... who knew?

Kim and Rosy, a heart team

Today, I'm grateful for all of this, yet so much more:

-In the midst of a stressful day, I stopped, closed my office door, did some meditative breathing and am putting together my gratitude list; I have my priorities straight!
-Friends, all friends, for without them, life would be very lonely, even with three kitty girls who keep me great company
-Little things, especially when it comes to self-care; I'm doing little things every day
-Dinner plans tonight with dear friend not seen in too long
-Miss Rosie winning the adorableness prize this week; they're all pretty adorable, but this, I've never seen this before (and it makes me grin EVERY TIME I look at it):

-Hoping to get home early enough from dinner to exercise tonight; no, let me rephrase. Setting intentions to work out tonight after I get home from dinner. There. Much better.
-My comfortable home, my safe haven from all storms
-Editing my post to include my second healthy break for the day: My 10-minute stairwell cardio blast (9th Floor to 16th; 16th down to 1st; 1st back up to 9th) that really gets the heart pumping!

Have a lovely day all-

Stephanie

Sandra, all sounds amazing, just be careful- from one who never was- to not overwork your knee too soon.

Today I am Thankful for:

Dry and warm day.

Not wrecking. Whew, no one was behind me! I was dashing to a job and hit the brakes when I glanced over and saw a small tree with beautiful yellow blooms- uncommon in the spring. Hah, it was a Cornelian Cherry, Cornus mas. It is actually in the Dogwood family and is called Cherry because of its edible fall fruit. They are lovely small trees with striking yellow flowers in the spring and beautiful red fruit in the fall. I had not seen one in a garden since 1978. Totally exciting!!!

Being active, though having a bad day- depression.

Being in early enough to see the Dottotech Webinar on Notion, featuring Francesco dalessio!! I know what you are thinking- oooh! I was glad to get a slightly better idea of what the confusing app/service is. Can't wait for the replay link for further study- yes oooh indeed!

Planting veggies in the North 40..ok West 30 ft.- our back deck. We have been planting cool season veggie urns at our house for quite a few years. I wasnt able to plant some of them last fall, so Im having to do them from scratch, instead of just making a few additions. We planted small plants of lettuce, kale, and spinach and sewed the seed of Peas and beans today. It's always amazing when I do something for the house, instead of a client.

Doing the above with the precious- my wife, not my new ring.

take care, bob

Today I'm grateful for all of this and so much more:

-"reminders of how precious and unpredictable life is" - so, so true and well said, Ann (happy your friend is okay)
-Spreading sunshine on a rainy day by sharing heirloom oranges with several co-workers
-The sunshine we've had the past few days, a welcome reprieve (I get it, Mr. Bob)
-Trying to make a co-worker's birthday special as it's her first since losing her mother & they were very close
-Self-reminders to treat myself gently as the 5-year anniversary of Beth's passing approaches this week and grief is sneaking up on me easily
-Running into Beth's former booking agent at lunch today; not a coincidence, methinks (he gave me two big hugs)
-Lunch tomorrow with retired co-worker friend; an excellent person for me to talk with as I face some work challenges
-My knee seems to be getting better by the day; making more plans to test it with some longer hikes again

Have a lovely day all -

Stephanie

Sandra, I'm so impressed with you completing the meditation challenge!!! Prayers for your knee healing, great PT, getting back to the pool. Maha- sorry about the friend! So hard! Wow, a Being There reference! I took my wife to that in late 1979 when it first came out.

Today I am thankful for:

Some good food choices throughout the day.

A glorious sunny day- I can see from my office window.

Dealing with a major business stressor.

Bill Mahr Tonight- it didnt show up on the Apple TV last night, but hah, I saw the opening on YouTube, so the hunt is on. To the HBO app!

Most of the winter off!! I did some things with an employee thats super easy going. It just so happened the usual headachy employees had moved on in December due to the rain. I didnt replace them to have a break. It was such a blessing!

The beautiful Pandora station- Clannad.

take care! Bob

Grateful ~~

~ I love polenta for breakfast (or lunch or dinner lol)!

~ I played the piano today (sadly I still have issues reading the music post-op)

~ though I still feel a "gaping wound," my best friend and I at least talked today

~ looking forward to getting hold of Isabel Allende's The Japanese Lover next

~ pasta primavera with whole wheat past for a tasty, healthy dinner entree

Blessed be,
xox
