Today I am Thankful for:

Finishing up my shoulder PT today. Coming along nicely. Went over exercises I can do in the gym for my shoulder, knee, neck, mid-back, low back, etc. Hes a patient man.

Getting data about my sleep. So great to know whats going on, instead of guessing and not being sure.

I lost some weight! I hit a plateau at the start/restart! I thought I got to lose for a while first! Hah!

iPads!!! iPhones, Apple Watches!!!

take care, bob

The last day of the month… And I am finally posting. I have so much in my life to be grateful for

* my overall good health. Despite the way I have abused my body over the years, my good genes are carrying me through.
* The new weight watchers program. For the first time in many years, I have found something that makes sense, and really is working for me.
* Motivation is high, with plans for a knee replacement in late summer or early fall.
* California has snow and rain! Hopefully, we will not be on strict water restrictions again this summer.
* off to Hawaii in a couple of days, for some R&R
* I was able to celebrate my dad‘s 97th birthday with him! What a joy to still have him in my life
* My son and grandkids are doing well… Keeping busy, and rebuilding their lives with healthy coping skills.

Sandra, so glad you have a PT that works for you. After man years, I found a great guy about 5 years ago, and it has made so much difference! Hold your mother close!

Today I am Thankful for:

Did I say my new Sleep Tracker Ring came in ???? Got to share it with the Sleep Apnea spark team today.

2nd day of work-out at the Y with my wife. I look forward to seeing my ring data, after the gym. Oh yea.....it was great doing it with her and getting healthier.....ooh I can compare data with the Apple watch....

New/Old brace!!! I finally got a new brace from my knee surgeon, but the person who fits them was out and it turned out I was given one too big. Evidently, my first one was also, so I was surprised when the PT for my shoulder, said Whats wrong with your knee brace??? He measured, told me what I needed, and I just got it. Wow, thats how it works! I wear it all the time and am worried to death that on job sites Ill step wrong, or fall so this fitting grrrrreat really helps.

The love of a good cat! Our big ole Gray Tabby is cuddly, feisty, loving, attacking, mooching, and sleeping in good shape.

How easy to hit my water goals when its warm and Im working or working out. Oy vey I do badly in Winter.

The chrome plug-in Grammarly!!! I was always more of a concept / creative writer and not great at grammar. Doing these posts, it really cleans up the spelling, commas, etc. I use the free version on my PC, Mac, and I use the free apps on iPhone, and iPad- I told you I was bad at it.

take care, bob

So very grateful~~

~ for this amazing community, based on giving thanks!

~ the fund for Adelaida's trip is up to almost $1600 now!

~ Maui will definitely be part of her adventure and it looks like my native state will be as well (the San Francisco Bay Area)

~ I'm thrilled that Adelaida will experience both coasts -- she'll spend the last week in New Jersey and New York -- as well as the mid-South and Hawaii!

~ trying to stay positive in the midst of a full-blown case of the *creeping crud*

Blessed be,

grateful for:

the patience of the physical therapists today. Took a tumble yesterday, and they carefully worked out all my aches and pains. Feeling much better now.

For lessons learned... always close the top of the trash can before you move it! it is inevitable that you will trip over the trailing top. Patience in life is key for many things.

For a great appointment with Mom's doctor. She is doing so much better lately.

Welllll Stephanie, since you asked...I can recommend a couple of vids to figure out the ring, Hands-On with the Oura Ring Sleep and Activity Tracker and 3 Ways to Improve your Sleep, etc. Sandra, healing thoughts for your knee!

Today I am thankful for:

My Ring! Px. in my photo- one that looks like a wedding ring- ooooh! Great data last night and today!!!

Working this morning without too much pain. It was a beautiful day, and I was at my favorite garden going John Woo on a giant Fig, Butterfly bush, etc.

My wife not tightening up too much overnight! She did take it easy, but since she never has worked out, I was a little concerned and worried if she did, she wouldn't continue.

John Oliver last night! Luvvvvvv him!

Finding an acceptable lunch to take out at a Breakfast place I go to. Carbs and sodium ruled all but about 1 out.

take care, bob

Thanks a lot, Bob - now I have to go figure out what a Oura ring is!! Bahahahaha!

Tonight I am grateful for all of this, yet so much more:

-Two days of knee exercises (starting slow) going well; heading to stretch when done here
-The best night's sleep I've had in a few weeks, wowza, can feel the difference (my sincere apologies to Bob)
-Maha's spirit ... I just love it (and you, my dear)
-Feeling the need to get back into both morning and evening gratitudes, as I did faithfully for so long; something about both starting and ending my day in this fashion, so grounding
-My mother, who spent years as the VP of HR in NYC for ASCAP (enough acronyms?), providing solid counsel on a situation I know needs to be addressed, and a plan
-My sweet, adorable, loving, beautiful kitty girls; ah the little games we play and the joy they bring to my life (99% of the time, as two are hissing at each other at the moment!)
-A soft, warm and comfortable bed calling to me soon

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

Maha, I have been accused of haunting people before (think Michelan man / Casper cross), but not this time, its the real Bob!

Today I am thankful for:

The Precious, the One Ring to Rule them all !!!!

My Oura ring came in today!!! It is an amazing tracking device, which tracks sleep amazingly well. I have severe sleep apnea and insomnia and need all the help I can get to sleep, so I am soooo excited. I have a number of YouTube vids to watch on it.

The Sun! Actual employees doing work today! Yay no rain!

The Ring!!!

Working out with the ole ball and chain. My wife has never worked out in a gym before, but asked me to sign up for the YMCA again and said she wanted to go with me. I think the main reason was to get me back to water aerobics, but she did the orientation and the first work-out their system made for her!!! Its a nice blend of aerobic, strength and flexibility. Her weight is great, but she doesnt have any strength. I exercised some, but mainly went around with her to help her learn how to do everything. She did a great job, great form, and nice speed of movement. I was very impressed with her doing something new at 70+ years old.

Ahhhhhhhh!!!!! The Ring! Did I tell you my ring came in?

A great 60"s video playlist on YouTube I'm listening to. I'm currently trying to not choke up while 'To Sir with Love' is on. Luvvvv that Lulu!

Take care, bob

Ahhhhhh...please indulge me as I share a Rumi piece that speaks to uncertain mortality as the years whiz by ~~

BEGIN

This is now. Now is,
all there is. Don't wait for Then;
strike the spark, light the fire.

Sit at the Beloved's table,
feast with gusto, drink your fill

then dance
the way branches
of jasmine and cypress
dance in a spring wind.

The green earth
is your cloth;
tailor your robe
with dignity and grace.

~ Rumi ~

Welcome backs from members!

Sunshine!!! Its been raining for days. Yesterday we had 5.7 inches of rain in one day! Flash flooding was bad in the area.

Our Cat being able to get outside! He has not been happy stuck inside.

Peter Tork of the Monkees, who passed recently. I was 7 when when their show debuted and spent many happy hours watching it and listening to their music.

Good healthy meals provided by my wife! Im usually out and about and have a hard time trying to find any food not full of sodium and carbs, so its so nice to relax with her food.

Take care, Bob

Sister Stephanie I always knew you had the heart of a poet! Hah! Sandra I feel for you with your knee problems! Youre great attitude is inspiring! Thank you both for the welcome back!

Today I am thankful for:

The kind responses from the Sparkers!

The frickin rain. Not much work for 3 months, during the monsoon season, but Ive been at this long enough to know the trees and water table need it, and it will eventually dry out and well be begging for rain.

Gender and Privilege with 'Transparent' Creator Jill Soloway
A very interesting podcast. I was super glad to recently to find Larry Wilmore again, on his podcast 'Larry Wilmore Black on the Air'. I have really missed hearing him after 'The Daily Show' went off the air. Today I listened to a great Podcast today: Gender and Privilege with 'Transparent' Creator Jill Soloway. Ep. 53. Its so nice to learn from various perspectives and hear such intelligent, topical information, along with Larrys good-natured comedy.

Being able to get some sales work done in the office despite not being able to sleep last night.

Getting to watch Real Time with Bill Mahr tonight!

Take Care! bob

Welcome back to @LESSBIGBOB

Thankful for:

pistachio nuts, the best nuts in the world. And for being able to buy them already shelled to spare my fingers

for walking with my Rosy, even though I felt dizzy and was glad not to fall down on the ice. She's a whirlwind. lol.

To be able to buy food and make plans. Each day is interesting.

Kim and Rosy, a heart team

Oh my God, it's LessBigBob!!! (and I'm a poet and don't even know it)!! GREAT to see you back, Bob!! No crawling necessary, we're happy to have you walk back in ... emoticon

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-Making it through a tough work week
-The sweet kitty curled up in the small of my back (not allowing me to sit back in my chair)
-Playing a few games of Mahgong tonight; haven't done that in quite awhile
-Sandra knowing exactly what to do after the small PT setback (along with ice, Biofreeze is my new best friend)!
-A quiet Friday night at home with no plans other than petting purring kitties (Bob - some things never change)
-Being very gentle with myself this week/month
-Seeing kitty ears on the bed ... calling me now

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

Hello again, Thanksgivingers!
Is it me or did 8 years fly by? Back again: death, taxes, bob, comes to all eventuallyI got reinspired to work on my weight after seeing my Knee surgeon in early January. I had a horrible year of pain with my knee last year, but he still refuses to do a knee replacement. So, I asked for the weight and BMI I have to hit for him to operate. So, I have a goal and a deadline or painline and come crawling back to you bearing thanks..

Today I am thankful for:

Seeing so many olyoung friends from my past days on the site.

Hearing a podcast today on depression, that mentioned giving thanks as one of the best remedies, strategies to best deal with it- reminding me about the group!

This group of dedicated people who keep the thread vibrant, so old reprobates like myself have a place to come back to.

Seeing my Doctor who does injections for my back, neck, and knee. It reminded me of how incredible it was to not feel pain for the first time in many years (15ish), in my lower back and thoracic areas last year after his treatments. The year before no relief for my lower back, and minimal in mid-back, so I wasnt expecting much.

The Hammer! My sweet, petite wife of 40 years! Yes, Im still a saint to put up with her quiet, patient, sweet, calm way. How do I do it?

Take care, bob

ps. the years haven't made me less verbose as you can tell.

-to be out of bed
-for quiet time at home to let illness run its course
-for the surprise of moonlight bouncing around my room in the wee hours, though it made sleeping difficult
-for the birth of K 41 years ago today
-to see the river clearing after the rains and pairs of ducks racing downstream

Happy Sunday to You!

Today I am grateful for:

After months of trying to figure out a totally free and easy way to transfer $ from Brazil to the USA to a college student son, we finally made it happen this week without blocking ourselves out of our stateside bank accounts for trying to send money to here and there from a foreign country. Whew! How does the mafia do it?

My mother who fell and broke her shoulder in January is doing much better.

I spoke several times this month in a variety of settings with good success. Glad for the opportunities as I expand this side of my work in Brazil.

My health is good.
My dogs are happy.
My cat is fine and dandy.
Ah, and I have fish in my tank that had sat in a corner getting dusty for more than five years!

Spark joy or toss it out!

- Making use of my friends rowing machine to get some movement in.

- Enjoyed relaxing with a classic movie, Weekend at the Waldorf, With Lana Turner, Ginger Rogers, Van Johnson, Walter pigeon, Edward Arnold and Xavier Cugat.
