Grateful for:

Mom and Dad having a pretty good day

that when Rosy caught the possum, she didn't kill him.

that we have much fun in this house and love each other.

And for good quotes like the following. Love books:

“There are many things from which I might have derived good, by which I have not profited, I dare say,' returned the nephew. 'Christmas among the rest. But I am sure I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round—apart from the veneration due to its sacred name and origin, if anything belonging to it can be apart from that—as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow-passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys. And therefore, uncle, though it has never put a scrap of gold or silver in my pocket, I believe that it has done me good, and will do me good; and I say, God bless it!”
― Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

On this last night of November, I'm grateful for all of this, yet so much more:

-An enchanted evening at the Arboretum Luminary Walk
-weather being foggy, misty and magical for the event
-Louisburg hot apple cider .... um ... yummmmmmm
-Having a pretty amazing evening walk, amongst the thousands of luminaries
-A cup of cocoa to cut the crisp chill of the evening
-My favorite mug given to me by Beth - "Yoga Girl - Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape"

Think I've got the December thread set up ... will see you there in December:

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-SparkPeople strikes again; I can do walk and talks (1-mile power walks, 16 min.) without an in-person friend: Jessica Smith TV One Mile Walk & Talk, all done in a small space
-Pushing the envelope a bit and doing 20 minutes on the bike after my walk and talk
-All of the above netting me my 10,000+ steps today
-Ten minutes of stretching to increase my hopes of no pain tomorrow
-The wonderful holiday party my company put on today, although it feels weird in November
-New, short holiday healthy incentive program that starts at work Monday for 2 weeks only, focusing on small things to try and stay healthier during the holiday season
-The best little exercise buddies I could ask for, even if they only exercise their eyes!

Have a great evening all,
Stephanie

Passing through to express my gratitudes!

Happy to have celebrated my 53rd birthday yesterday with gifts from local friends, a date night with my man, and phone calls from loved ones.

Thankful for a few cool days and nights after many in the upper 90's.

Grateful for tickets to take a tour of the southernmost part of Brazil for the holidays with good friends.

Glad to be moving forward in a new venture with local women.

Grateful:
* For all the familiar faces here, after a long absence on my part.
* For a month filled with travel, gatherings, adventures, and love
* For massages in Thailand, (thanks for the reminder, Stephanie!)
* For feeling exhausted, but knowing tomorrow, I fly back to southeast Asia, for two weeks of floating down the Irrawaddy River, reconnecting with Burmese friends, and sharing a new experience with my beau.
* For my son, celebrating his birthday and Thanksgiving on a catamaran in Tahiti with college friends and their respective families
* For having an alternative place to spend the holiday
* For being able to share my abundance with those less fortunate
* For giving trees and Walmart who walks over bicycles to the Fire station each year
* For getting through an ugly day yesterday
* For my friend changing her mind about cancelling our springtime trip
* For her friendship
* For hot showers
* That the fire is out in northern CA, and that my cousin and aunt have been able to spend time working in a food distribution center helping the victims and the fire fighters
* For my sister
* For TigerLily, and a friend who loves to care for her while I travel.
* For many other things, too many to mention....

Thankful for:

That while it wasn't fun that my mother was in the hospital, it was just what she needed to have some medical things corrected and updated.

and for wisdom of the doctors, pointing out something we needed to know and possibly fix.

and last but not least, the power of prayer to help in situations like this.

and most of all, that my mother was able to come home and is doing pretty well.

All that’s right in my life and here.

The good health my family and I enjoy.

A husband who cares about my happiness.

Feeling loved.

Our home.

Beautiful palms surrounding our patio.

Sunny Florida weather.

The willingness to let go of disappointment, hurt and all negative feelings.

The willingness to forgive and pray for understanding and compassion.

Mazzy

Today I'm grateful for:

-Great visit with dear friend, but they stayed 2 days longer than planned, so loved saying goodbye too (tough having company when you have to work)!
-My house to myself TONIGHT
-Getting some good steps and sunshine in delivering proofs to our production team half-block away in another building
-Introspection, lots of this going on and I think it's good
-Those adorable kitties I live with; they were very well-behaved and social
-Feeding Pixie, the very sweet polydactyl kitty, starting tonight while her person is gone for the holiday

Have a great evening all -

Stephanie

I may just have been grouchy just now, but truly, at the heart of all this time in the hospital with my mother, I fully appreciate and am grateful for:

A loving and wonderful mother, who is struggling right now but still (mostly!) sweet and loving.
For a really good hospital (in the top 100 best hospitals in the USA!) and a really great cardiac unit (top 50 in the USA!) and for loving and kind nurses, nurse assistants, doctors (mostly! they have their moments too).

And for a family, so that I am not doing this only on my own. Thankgoodness there are more of us to help.

And really grateful that my mother is finally resting and sleeping peacefully. If they can get her meds regulated, things will be much better, but for now, request for prayers or good thoughts (your preference!) for us, please.

Kim and Rosy, a heart team

Grateful this snowy and special Tuesday:

for my parents, still with us
For our mechanic. We have been with the same place for going on 40 years, he's the "new owner" (15 years plus and counting) and he is honest, fair, gives good information, and most of all, he loves Rosy and she gets to go and sparkle at all the guys who work there. They all seem to like her too.

for snow, and beauty of falling snow, and even for those people who are spinning like tops on the roads. They are good reminders to SLOW down! LOL!

-Small snow and cold temps setting up perfect weekend of hibernation for healing and rest

Grateful for:

Ability to vote freely and privately, a privilege not afforded to everyone. What amazing people we have in our history that have changed things for us all.

Our veterans, and not just on veterans day. I have so many in my own family and back for generations. So blessed to have brave men who have stepped up and fought in nearly all of America's wars. So hoping that things are changing and that wars may become a thing of the past some day (sooner rather than later I hope).

For blessed Rosy, truly one of the happiest dogs I have ever had. And for the choices I made in dog training and in learning about dog behavior that changed how I train and raise my dogs. And for the courage to tell people, "No, I don't train like that" when they tell me I should be "controlling" my dog better, when she was a puppy and growing up.

Kim and Rosy, a heart team

-Hope for more unity, less divisiveness emoticon
-Being ALL done with ALL annual medical-related things
-My mammogram appointment today went smoothly, painlessly (unlike last year) and on-time

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-Well on the mend from the dental surgery, though I have to be on soft foods for nearly two weeks; not an easy task for this girl
-Awesome mac & cheese available to me at co-worker's lunch celebration at a burger joint; had them add some peas and it will be three lunches this week, and my company paid for the lunch(es)
-Managing to get through the grocery store tonight WITHOUT purchasing more ice cream! Ha!
-The pure, simple pleasure of petting my kitties, made even better when they purr big ...
-Handling the first night of it being dark outside when I left work with relative grace
-Anticipating the Plaza Lighting Ceremony, it helps me get through this time period up to Thanksgiving Day
-My soft, warm bed with some sleeping kitties waiting on me calling me now ...

Goodnight,
Stephanie

Today I'm grateful for:

-Ann's steady presence amongst us ... I bow in gratitude emoticon
-A dear friend who was kind enough to deliver me to and from dental surgery and make an extra unplanned pharmacy stop
-Accepting that I can do no exercise for 72 hours as getting the heart rate up could bust one of the stitches in my mouth (12 of them)
-The three best kitty nurses all on high alert, sticking very close with lots of purring going on emoticon emoticon emoticon
-A big bowl (planned) of chocolate ice cream and chocolate syrup; I'm limited to soft foods, cold is better right now and it's a deserved/approved treat for going through this emoticon
-Solid plan alternating Ibuprofen with pain meds to get ahead of the pain, as suggested
-Finding lots of good soft food that meets my nutritive needs: eggs, hummus, lentil soup, applesauce, yogurt, bananas (love to sprinkle with cinnamon), smoothies, with chocolate milk options

Have a great evening all -
Stephanie

Grateful this first day of November for ...

~ the time I have had with my parents this past year, healing and connecting in ways I never imagined possible. This morning my brother called. My 90 y/o dad is in the ER with a bleed on his brain from a fall he took 3 days ago and aspiration pneumonia.

~ reassurance of knowing I can be there in just six hours (it used to be 14 hours)

~ mindful distraction from worry while we wait

~ my brothers and their wives who live close

~ my mother who is primary caretaker for my dad

~ the approach of death (whenever it comes) makes me appreciate life all the more

~ the grace with which my parents have handled the challenges of aging

~ whatever the day brings -- all is well

shine,
sandra
