Good afternoon!

~ After riding my bike the 4.15 miles to my neighborhood Starbucks, I enjoyed breakfast of a soy cappuccino and a delicious 350 calories panini: "Roasted tomatoes, mozzarella, spinach and basil pesto toasted focaccia"

~ it was in the low 80s and with a slight breeze when I pedaled home (8-1/3 miles RT), still enjoyable to be out-and-about

~ happy that I'm relatively healthy and content @76

~ plans for an excursion with my housemate later this afternoon

~ learning with the passage of the years that my best friend is me

Blessed be,
Maha

Gratitude this morning~~

~ 73rd birthday today of one of my all-time favorite musicians, Van the Man -- Sir Van Morrison

~ remembering when I was enjoying time with a beloved friend in Las Vegas 3 years ago...and we *almost* got to see Van the Man (tickets were $140 each *sigh*)

~ soon leaving for morning aquaerobics

~ enjoying spending time on the paino again, and SO happy with the professor I'm working with

~ some success in aiming for consistency in healthy, moderate eating

An all-time favorite composition of his. Happy 73rd Van the Man!

IN THE GARDEN
Van Morrison

The streets are always wet with rain
After a summer shower when I saw you standin'
In the garden in the garden wet with rain

You wiped the teardrops from your eye in sorrow
As we watched the petals fall down to the ground
And as I sat beside you I felt the
Great sadness that day in the garden

And then one day you came back home
You were a creature all in rapture
You had the key to your soul
And you did open that day you came back to the garden

The olden summer breeze was blowin' on your face
The light of God was shinin' on your countenance divine
And you were a violet color as you
Sat beside your father and your mother in the garden

The summer breeze was blowin' on your face
Within your violet you treasure your summery words
And as the shiver from my neck down to my spine
Ignited me in daylight and nature in the garden

And you went into a trance
Your childlike vision became so fine
And we heard the bells inside the church
We loved so much
And felt the presence of the youth of
Eternal summers in the garden

And as it touched your cheeks so lightly
Born again you were and blushed
And we touched each other lightly
And we felt the presence of the Christ
Within in our hearts
In the garden

And I turned to you and I said
No guru, no method, no teacher
Just you and I and nature
And the father in the garden

Listen no guru, no method, no teacher
Just you and I and nature
And the Father and the
Son and the Holy Ghost
In the garden, wet with rain
No guru, no method, no teacher
Just you and I and nature and the Father
And the Son and the Holy Ghost
In the garden, in the garden, wet with rain

No guru, no method, no teacher
Just you and I and nature
And the Father in the garden

This morning I'm grateful for:

-Ann's visit with her mother sharing special times
-A lovely meal out last night shared with good friends at a new-to-me Pan Asian restaurant
-The cooler temperatures, though very strange for August here, lots of rain and storms
-My yard being greener than I ever recall it being this time of year
-Free water garden refills from my rain barrel
-A 3-day holiday weekend, giving me some extra R&R time
-These sweet kitty girls who are often the source of my gratitude
-Cleansing tears as I near a difficult month where I shared much celebration with Beth for many years; I have a 60th milestone coming up and 4 days later, she would have been 70

Have a lovely day all -

Stephanie

So much gratitude~~

~ I walked about 2500 steps, or one mile (2000-2500 steps), today on campus, because I had to park so far away from classes (grrrr...I was drenched by the time I arrived to class)

~ Thoroughly enjoyed classes today, including my first with the piano instructor. I'm starting with some Haydn and Debussy

~ After having my haircut appointment canceled early last week because of the illness of my hair cutter, I have an appointment tomorrow at 9:30 AM, not a minute too soon

I am 6 ounces lighter today than I was last Tuesday -- not a huge loss, but I'll take it (lol)

~ I stayed well within my caloric range today and feel quite satisfied

~ I got a load of washing done and hung up outside this morning before I left for campus and remembered to bring it in this evening

Blessed be,

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-Being able to drive right in to the dealership with no appointment, get them to check my tire pressure, fill the tires and turn off the warning light
-The fine line between this world and whatever is next and how love crosses those lines
-Asking for what I need during my labyrinth ceremony and the very next day, getting a phone call with news of what's coming my way in answer
-My intentional paradigm shift to "Happy Friday" AND "Happy Monday"; I'm finding Mondays go much better
-These sweet kitties I live with and the constant smiles they give me; they help my hurting heart heal
-The tools I have for self-care in so many varieties

Have a great evening all,

Grateful for so much, but this morning especially for the power of words and images~~

You will lose everything.
Your money, your power, your fame, your success, perhaps even your memories.
Your looks will go.
Loved ones will die.
Your body will eventually fall apart.
Everything that seems permanent is impermanent and will be smashed.
Experience will gradually, or not so gradually, strip away everything that it can strip away.
Waking up means facing this reality with open eyes and no longer turning away.

But right now, we stand on sacred and holy ground, for that which will be lost has not yet been lost, and realising this is the key to unspeakable joy.
Whoever or whatever is in your life right now has not yet been taken away from you.
This may sound trivial, obvious, like nothing, but really knowing it is the key to everything, the why and how and wherefore of existence.
Impermanence has already rendered everything and everyone around you so deeply holy and significant and worthy of your heartbreaking gratitude.

Loss has already transfigured your life into an altar.

Thankful for.... being able to afford Rosy's vet bills today. Yes they were high, but I could afford to pay them, thanks to the generosity of family.

And especially for this really beautiful day and that people were not driving as badly as they have been lately. Methinks the atmosphere is affecting a lot of people more than they realize! And thankful for a driver who did let me over when I got stuck behind a slower vehicle. So nice!

Little beauties everywhere if you just look for them.

Grateful for family, even grumpy old aunts. And for a sister who is generous, open hearted and loving. And for a mother who loves us all.

Today I'm grateful for:

-Maha, who's always on point with stunning poetry; the Robert Burns poem brought tears (emotional much, Stephanie?)
-Reminding myself that my temporary exercise setback is simply that: temporary - and I need to rest my body as part of self-care to come back even stronger
-Making Saturday night plans to walk the labyrinth under a full moon with my like-minded friend
-Having an unusual amount of energy last night after work (cooler temps?) and using it to get a few projects crossed off my list; the kitties were happy I got their drinking fountain running again (had to clean the pump)
-Remembering that some friends come into my life for a specific reason or a season
-Always, always, my health

Have a great day -

Stephanie

Good morning,

Gratitude~~

~ increasingly aware as I move through this topsy-turvy life that happiness is a choice -- and in that vein, I love Kim's reflection:

...the more you are positive and think about things you are grateful for, the more your brain and overall health improves. Wow! We are practicing a very good thing here...(!)

~ SO happy to hear that R has recovered, Sandra! ENJOY.ENJOY.ENJOY it ALL!!!

~ after a crazy week I'm down 2 ounces (lol) -- better that than up!

~ a lovely cool morning -- 69 degrees when I got up

~ about to leave on a spin on my bike -- and at 9:30am it's 74 degrees with 77% humidity

Blessed be,
xox

Grateful for :

so very much. Good family, everyone is in pretty good health, and we had a good time at the workshops we had and the things we did at the local fiber festival. Exhausted, but in a good way.

Thankful also for good friends and a good community. Prizes beyond worth indeed.

And blessed by God in his heaven with good weather, beautiful fog, and harbingers of the fall approaching. Seasons are so wonderful.

Contemplating the report that studies show that complaining leads to more complaining and to brain changes. They say the more you are positive and think about things you are grateful for, the more your brain and overall health improves. Wow! We are practicing a very good thing here, so I am also thankful for all of you.

A Red, Red Rose

O my Luve is like a red, red rose
That is newly sprung in June;
O my Luve is like the melody
That Is sweetly played in tune.

So fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till alol the seas gang dry.

Till all the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wth the sun;
I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands of life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only luve!
And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my luve,
Though it were ten thousand mile.

--Robert Burns, 1794

I'm having internet signal problems, as well as difficulty posting so I'll let this poem inspired by Stephanie's beautiful red red rose suffice as an expression of my sense of abundant gratitude today.

-The sound and smell of light rain nourishing the earth
-Free water garden refills
-Lazy Sunday afternoons dozing with the kitty girls (especially Rosie who's making the cutest little sounds, maybe she's dreaming)
-The simple beauty of a single red rose on my rose bush; I brought it inside to enjoy and feed my own soul (I used to bring them in as a gift for Beth)

-My comfortable home

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-A wonderful night hike in the woods that's left me smiling, despite ...
-Nothing serious after my hiking shoe lace came untied, I tripped and both knees and my right elbow took the brunt of it all
-Leftovers from Beth's emergency kit, one of the best I'd ever seen, cleansing pads, triple antibiotic ointment, bandages, etc., adding my own Biofreeze and Ibuprofen, all of which should help the swelling
-My amazing kitty girls; all very concerned about what's going on and sticking right by me ... such good little nurses
-My comfortable bed after a shower
-Adventures ... (spider webs are really beautiful at night with headlamps and flashlights, coyotes howling in the distance, awesome birds and owls, a deer settled in for the night and laying down that didn't run)

Goodnight all,
Stephanie
