Tonight I am grateful for:

-Indeed, clear air; my entire family and many friends live in CA
-Continued amazing weather at the end of July here - all I can say is "Wow"
-A lovely 90-minute walk tonight with two friends and their dog
-Pushing 15,000 steps on my FitBit today
-A rough morning that turned into a good evening ending
-These sweet, sweet kitties I live with

Thankful this Tuesday evening for ...

~ said goodbye to three more clients this afternoon - bittersweet moments
~ two clients had "aha" moments in their last session, an appropriate ending
~ tomorrow is my last day to see clients
~ making progress on tasks I have been putting off
~ moderate temperatures
~ shedding 6 pounds
~ continuing to eat within my calorie budget
~ son is accepting job offer enabling him to have evenings & weekends off
~ daughter is off to Tonga to swim with the whales for four days
~ all is well

Grateful on this last day of the month
* For firefighters - their courage and their physicality as they work under horrific conditions
* For donations pouring in to help those who have lost everything in the California fires, with sometimes none or very little notice
* For air quality improving, though the smoke persists. I am over 150 mile away from the biggest fire, and it has impacted our entire area
* For shopping days with granddaughters ined up - the annual tradition before school starts!
* For my son and his girls traveling through 19 countries this summer, carrying everything they took on their backs!
* For a GREAT workout with "Brutus" ( my trainer) at the gym today

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-Starting my day with upper 60s temps, sunshine and a drive to work with my sunroof open!
-Completing another strength training session with Robert; today was hard but I felt much better after getting through it
-Co-worker bringing home grown tomatoes to share
-Rejoining two outdoor groups on Meetup and signing up for two upcoming local hikes; one on a Saturday morning, another at dusk (my favorite time to hike)
-My neighbors gifting me million dollar pickles (no clue) and strawberry jam from the farmer's market
-Finding more organic red leaf lettuce when I stopped at the same store I found it in on the way home from work
-Kitty play time tonight
-My comfortable bed; I feel it starting to call out to me ...

Thankful this Monday afternoon for ...

~ After 3 years of applications, SON WAS OFFERED CAREER CHANGE JOB
~ making myself do something I've been putting off
~ sticking to it an hour at a time; then rewarding myself with a short break
~ trying to make a complex situation simple
~ resisting the urge to feel a bit taken advantage of
~ formulating questions for my doctor
~ pondering what I want my retirement to look like (perhaps a little late)
~ lost 5 pounds -- 2 pounds from the top of the range I stayed in for 18 months
~ 8 pounds until I can move my SP tracker
~ signed up for physical therapy followed by a personal trainer
~ Schwinn Airdyne stationary bike arrives this week
~ all is well ...

~ chair from office looks great in our living room, like it's been there forever
~ unafraid & unashamed to feel my feelings, something new to evolve
~ shed 5 pounds this week, noticing difference in my jeans
~ tracking and meal planning work
~ being with my son in his pain & daughter in her celebration the same day
~ son's perseverance despite daunting circumstances

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-Living near Unity Village, especially their labyrinth
-A friend who also dearly loves walking the labyrinth under a full moon; we spent over an hour there tonight
-The moon on the horizon as we were driving to Unity; it was a beautiful reddish moon
-Having an incredibly relaxing meditation lying on a bench under the full moon while waiting for my friend to finish
-Coming home to loving kitties who were all happy to see me, despite my being gone only 2 hours; the love and purpose they give me, three shelter kitties who changed my life
-Turning the mattress on the bed today, followed by clean sheets that I can go crawl into now
-Hair appointment tomorrow morning

Today I'm grateful for:

-The summer tomatoes, oh my, the tomatoes are SO good
-A solid strength training workout that left me feeling stronger (the trainer downstairs is slowly upping my time, he's not sneaking anything over on me!! Hahaha!)
-An opportunity to start a volunteer gig going to a nearby inner city school to let a child read to me for 30 minutes over lunch (they choose kids that can't get that kind of attention at home)
-Hearing from a retired co-worker (he was in security) and planning for a lunch soon
-Making plans for the full moon/total lunar eclipse Friday night
-My mother (who sent an e-mail this a.m. that it's 108 degrees & they were having rolling blackouts that had her gazing longingly at her future urn) - seriously, this is her type of humor

~ liked the bariatrics specialist
~ will start tracking & exercise tomorrow
~ son said interview went well and he is hopeful he will get the job offer.
~ they said they would call him mid-day on Friday with a decision
~ disappointed he didn't get an offer today but still hopeful
~ ran errands with sweetie this afternoon, always a joy to spend time together
~ cooler temperatures again today though still hot
~ looking for places to camp in September for a week, ideas anyone?

-Continuing to be on a tear all weekend long; so many things crossed off my list it's amazing (who was that masked woman?)
-Being in a "Happy Monday" mood this morning; usually not my deal
-An excellent workout today with my trainer, Robert
-Meals taken care of most of the week because I prepared yesterday and did Costco and Trader Joe's runs

~ son will know tomorrow whether he has a job outside of restaurants after 14 years. The job offers paid health insurance, 401k, sick leave, vacation, and most weekends off. Fingers crossed. I am hopeful we'll all be celebrating tomorrow

-Waking up early today on a tear - a good tear - and just going with the flow, getting LOTS done
-Kitty litters all cleaned out, dry food mixing done and portioned into appropriate storage containers
-Pantry closet completely cleaned out, excess plastic bags to a recycling spot
-Going to an outside wedding that I almost didn't attend this afternoon; I've been to so many funerals and memorials in the past 4+ years, wow! So life- and love-affirming, two friends who've been together for 20 years, but can now legally marry
-Seeing several folks at the wedding that I haven't seen in many years
-An excellent dinner out with dear friends tonight
-Coming home to the sweetest little kitties I could ever ask for
-My warm, comfortable bed calling me and the kitties now ...

While not happy about the cracked tooth, that we have the great and good care of dentistry in this country.

That the big limb that fell didn't hit anything, and that the process is already underway to get the trees removed.

That Rosy is doing so well with her PT and is clearly having a wonderful summer.

That my parents are taking steps to get better and that they are still with me.

Giving thanks this Thursday afternoon for ...

~ a productive morning setting up appointments, work and wedding party
~ daughter called to share she had a job offer in France (her first choice)
~ son called - he has an in-person interview instead of second phone interview
~ parents called -- they had good doctors' appointments
~ proud of sweetie's activism
~ finding helper for wedding reception & following up on when dress will arrive
~ feeling like I'm in a good place in this transition to retirement

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-Excellent strength training session at lunch with trainer at work
-Nearby friend asked about a walk and talk tonight; we kept a fast pace up for 40 minutes enjoying the "break" in the heat and humidity (OK, really? Is 89 degrees a break? Sad.)
-Long, hot showers after a sweaty walk
-My handyman answering me promptly and his willingness to come Friday evening to check out the leak in my kitchen ceiling
-Kitty play time tonight as soon as I take my shower; these three are the best
-Meeting finally coming to fruition tomorrow with financial advisor
-My health

Grateful this Saturday afternoon for ...

~ cool enough to enjoy sitting outside at my favorite breakfast place
~ satisfying conversation with a good friend
~ bringing organization to a mess brightens my mood
~ no plans tomorrow (except projects at home)
~ contemplating a nap after a restless night
~ unexpected validation

-Taking my rear end down to the gym late afternoon and getting the strength training workout done that I missed Wednesday due to the holiday

Today I'm grateful for:

-Catching up with Kathy!
-Getting really good rest the past few days; it makes a difference in how I feel, for sure
-House projects moving along, slowly but surely
-The kitty girls and I hunkering down together last night with the TV a little louder than usual and the sleep timer set a little longer than usual (to muffle any fireworks) - it worked!
-Anticipation of a predicted break in the horrid heat this weekend to finish a few more small outside projects (hmmmm ... planning, imagine!)
-Always, my health

Grateful this Thursday morning for ...

~ finishing outside chores before it gets sweltering hot
~ portulaca that bloom day after day after day
~ maroon and saffron striped day lilies in bloom
~ hopeful son will talk to key decision-maker about prospective job today
~ he could use a shot of hope
~ back in my acceptable weight range after gaining a few pounds
~ sweetie made yummy turkey salad for our lunch
~ first heirloom tomatoes from our garden are heavenly
~ soon we will be inundated with tomatoes enough to share with others
~ or do some canning for later
~ basil ready for another batch of pesto for the freezer
~ loving this gardening stuff
~ all is well despite bourgeois pain & chaos in the world. I'm alive, loved ones are alive & safe, we have food & shelter & the luxury of air conditioning

Thankful this Fourth of July for ...

~ celebrating holiday with RGB & lunch with friend
~ remembering the preamble to the Declaration of Independence today
~ laughing at memory lapse (rather than getting frustrated)
~ retirement looks better every day - just 18 days I actually work until 8/4
~ post wedding project list ready to go, a lot of deferred maintenance
~ prolific heirloom tomato plants, not too keep the squirrels out

* For my best travel mate EVER (well, other than Alan) and I booking our trip to Scandinavia and Russia for next summer! OMG. Am I excited!
* For getting back to the gym today, and having "Brutus" give me a good work out
* For "Brutus", my trainer, who has so much experience dealing with physical limitations, listening to me...recognizing the words "I can't vs I won't", and giving alternate options.
* For my first day in ages without sugar
* For finding something special to do tomorrow night, to fill in the gap, since I had no holiday plans and was feeling sorry for myself
* For recognizing that I am more than just a fat old lady...and fighting the negative self-talk that has been so destructive this past week....

~to be working on a new morning habit doing some Feldenkrais to loosen up

Mazzy - SO lovely to see you !!

During this new month of July, I'm grateful for:

-Air conditioning, as the heat and humidity continue for our summer here
-Being very spoiled driving from garage to garage, AC to AC
-A clean house!
-Scheduling Perquackey tomorrow night with my friend who got me addicted to this word game (since Wednesday is not a work day); at my house so the kitty girls aren't alone!
-My sister
-A high intensity strength training workout today, very different from what my trainer has normally done; it kicked my patootie, but I felt really good after

Thankful for:

Foster's Celebration of Discipline. Read this book in college, and when I wrote about it, said I would someday start working through this book for real. My college professor told me I should start now and not wait. He was right. I have thought about that often over the years. But today, I am grateful for having started. It will be a good and new direction for my life and spiritual life.

Rosy, my heart companion, my sweetie, and my very forgiving dog. I was not at my best yesterday during the competition and told her she was a bad dog. I apologized later and she forgave me happily. And still loves me. What a wonderful role model for forgiveness in everything.

For my family, whom I love very much. And for good friends. Much to be thankful for.
