Grateful
* For friends that help combat the loneliness bug when it bites
* A productive day yesterday, in so many ways!
* My trusty car with the newly installed navigation, blue tooth, back up camera! I haven't hit anything since!
* Reminders that people are still longing for the kindness and civility that Mr. Rogers brought to our world. The theater was PACKED!
* That I have stopped sugar binging and have been tracking food for three consecutive days again!

Today I'm grateful for:

-Cleo's vet visit being the best I could hope for; allergies and eye drops PRN, not an infection
-Being able to work from home and enjoy a quiet, uninterrupted day
-THE head honcho at work bringing me some bean salad he made from the recipe I shared with him; I'm fortunate to work with great people
-Back at strength training with no repercussions; just slowing it down a bit (me, pumping it up too quickly? No way! Hahahaha)!
-Slowly getting over being intimidated by the machine at my work gym on which you do pullups and triceps dips (and doing both)
-An early morning dream that's had me laughing off and on all day - I adopted twins (NOT the 4-legged variety)!! Oh my!!
-Planning to go see the documentary about Mr. Rogers tonight; learning more about somebody so kind would be a GOOD thing for me in the midst of our crazy country - "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping."
-Always, my health

Have a great day!

I've been a busy bee for the past month, but I am very grateful to have participated in the wedding of our oldest son,

gone to summer orientation and music auditions with our youngest who will start at a major university in the fall,

enjoyed a unexpected and fast trip to visit long time friends in another state...

Counting the days until my dh and I return to our work in NE Brazil in early July.

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-My sensitive Cleo, who has to go to the vet tomorrow; Siamese have deeper eye pockets so they can struggle with eye issues
-All the folks who handle picking up our trash every week; a pretty thankless job, especially in the midst of a hot, humid summer
-My weekly opportunity to help out my neighbor
-Trader Joe's quick shop done on the way home
-My comfortable home
-Giving my body rest after I (apparently) pushed it too hard with strength training the past 3 weeks; muscles were complaining all the way up my right side; my massage therapist said, "What did you do? Your right quad is just a steel rod." But getting back to it tomorrow!

Have a great evening!

Today I'm grateful for all of this, and so much more:

-A new-found and already treasured handyman; I think he's resolved the issue of water getting into my basement at the bottom of the walkout steps
-Friends and friendship
-Being at the bottom of a 3-cat pile up ... the best
-The book I ordered, "Notorious RBG - The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg" - the documentary led me to the book and both are wonderful
-The movie, "Will You Be My Neighbor?" - a wonderful man, Mr. Rogers, and a piece of history providing hope in a messed up world; I'll never forget his quote about looking for helpers, they're always there
-Rosie and I playing fetch on a rainy day
-Always, my health; I try my best to keep it

Grateful this Sunday
* For my pool....makes this high heat bearable
* For my pool...nice way to spend time with friends who need to cool down
* For my pool...and the gentle exercise that it provides
* That my son, who has already made it to five countries this trip, is having a fabulous time with his girls....they need these new and beautiful memories
* For the good news from my oncologist...still basking in it, and feeling like I really did dodge that bullet
* For being able to move forward on a volunteer project (with support and encouragement from those who did NOT want me to quit) and stand up against an individual who has tried to sabotage my every effort.

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-Reminding myself that I told a friend to add me to her list of people she could call for help after her knee replacement (when she asked at an inconvenient time and on short notice); all took less than an hour and I managed to handle things cheerfully
-The cooler weather that comes with cloudy skies and light rain, all welcome here
-Managing to get a 30-minute walk in at the park tonight after helping my friend
-Knowing that my moodiness this week is tied to the memorial service I'll be attending tomorrow; they just impact me more deeply than they used to
-These sweet kitty girls of mine and our special times together, each in our own ways
-My comfortable bed that's calling me now after a hard week
-Always, my health

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

Grateful that I have this page to come home to... I am going to post things a little different this afternoon. Simply because the deepest gratitude I am feeling, does not fit into a simple sentence or two.

1. Grateful, that despite the fact that I miss them terribly, my son is coping with his (and the kids') horrific loss by trekking through Europe. I won't see them for four weeks, and most likely for six, because the day after they get home, they drive 8 hours to fly out of LAX to go to Tonga. They are traveling light, winging it as far as where they are going, where they are staying, and where they are placing #liveliketori stickers! Grateful that they post pictures to let me know they are safe!

2. I have had another crazy past two weeks; trip to San Diego where I worked like a dog for 5 days, then to my nephews wedding for a few nights. When I got home, I "ht the ground running". Every day this week, I have had 2-3 events on my calendar, ranging from dental work, to a funeral, to lunch dates, to volunteer work.... I have been feeling guilty, and overwhelmed. Trying to decide what I need to say no to. FINALLY, I realized...this is my life! I don't want to miss anything! So "shut up, Kathy, accept the fact your house will never be spotless, but you will stay engaged with friends, family, volunteer work and just plain fun!" I realized I don't need to make excuses, any more. Period.

3. I ate a lot of sugar yesterday (first time in ages) and had horrible abdominal problems last night. Came home and had to lay down with heating pad on the belly. Late night, with only a little sleep, and I had to go see my oncologist to get the report of my full body scan done earlier this week. Of course, I had a twinge of apprehension. (but GREAT NEWS! No evidence of cancer! No colonoscopy or scan for another 3 years...I will still have six month labs and appointments, but unless something shows, my prognosis is excellent. He told me... he can't technically say it for five years, but I should consider myself a cancer survivor!) Anyway, back to the bad hair day, I was having. NOTHING looked right. And I was feeling frustrated as I was readying myself for the appointment. All of a sudden, I got this realization. I am going to see an ONCOLOGIST! I should be extraordinarily thankful that I HAVE hair! Whew. I will never complain about cowlicks, thin or unruly hair again!

More tomorrow...

Grateful for so much today including:

Not having to be outside in this horrible heat and humidity (and yet giving thanks for the humidity which is so good for our farmers and our growing season).

For the blessing of having a Godly father, who did his best for us, always and is still with us to hug and to honor and most of all to love.

-Having some extra energy this evening after working all day

-Doing a load of laundry that didn't get done over the weekend
-If I just HAD to have a piece of the Cheesecake Factory cheesecake at a celebration today, I at least split a slice with another co-worker
-These adorable kitty girls I live with; even when nasty or in a bad mood, they're cute!
-Always, my health

Today I'm grateful for:

-A very relaxing weekend with a dear friend (really, family) from NY; though TOO relaxing because I wasn't able to get my food prep done for the week
-My company subsidizing a cafeteria with LOTS of healthy options; always my Plan B when I don't get things done at home
-The best honeydew melon I've ever tasted; I thought I didn't like it much until today
-My strong commitment to my strength training appointments; I did not even work from home today because I'm on a Mon/Wed schedule with my trainer downstairs
-Getting a THIRD upper body session in over the weekend while visiting with my company
-Home, home, home, all to myself again; glad to be back to my normal routines

Have a great day all ...!!

Present, n.
That part of eternity dividing the domain of disappointment from the realm of hope.
-- Ambrose Bierce

Greetings all,

I so enjoy reading through the wonderful gratitudes in my less-than-regular visits to this extraordinary community (which Kathy and I started all those years ago). Hey Sandra, in reading through the posts, though Stephanie is indubitably aging well, I think you were making reference to Kathy's comment. And what an exciting and worthwhile ride your adventurous son is on (from the city I've lived the longest in to the city where I ws born).and your gratitude, "gardening is a delight." And Stephanie, I love that you're picking romaine from your own garden!

So much to be thankful for~~

~ my ongoing good health

~ the chance to "return the favor" for a friend who is exceedingly kind to me

~ the joy of giving

~ getting close to another milestone in my very slow weight-loss journey

~ handling the disappointment of international travel that isn't to be, for the moment

Blessed be,
Maha

Grateful for:

A slow start to the morning, a chance to sleep in and get some much needed sleep, and the revitalization that comes from doing a really good thorough workout.

Blessings on this day!

Finally returning after almost a week hiatus from this site....I remain grateful from moment to moment for
* my health. How a scare last week seemed to be related simply to lack of carbs in the diet, causing blood sugar to drop to unhealthy levels.
* my family. As quirky as we are, we are still connected by blood and history
* my friends, who support and tolerate me beyond measure
* Ruth Bader Ginsburg. How she stood up for and diligently for us women, our rights and our dignity. (see the movie RBG!)
* the fragrances in my yard. Citrus blossoms are gone, jasmine is fading, but my gardenia bush beginning to bloom.
* my financial security
* a FABULOUS fun reunion this past week, with former co-workers, many of whom I haven't seen for over 20 years! Songs and laughter and stories of our days of working on the psych unit together...what fun!
* my good genes. Have to admit, compared to some of the others, I am aging well.....

Grateful for a new month, full of possibilities!

-- for food to eat

On this first day of June, I'm grateful for all of this, and so much more:

-Being a health conscious person who loves to learn new things, read new research
-FINALLY, buying new socks
-My Costco membership, it saves me (and friends) lots of money, well worth the yearly fee
-Helping a dear friend by buying a new cordless phone system for her at Costco at half the price we could find anywhere else
-Having friends over for dinner tomorrow night, something I've not done in over 4 years, and being excited about it
-A super short work week since I had both Monday and Tuesday off

Have a great evening all -

Stephanie
