Today, on this last day of May, I'm grateful for all of this, yet really so much more:

-Seeing that Ann is back home after a good trip - you were missed!!!
-Getting nearly an hour of walking in place in at the standing station downstairs today
-Taking the plunge: asking (and receiving) Mon/Wed 45-minute strength training time slots with a trainer downstairs (free service that I've not taken advantage of for too long)
-Scheduling various appointments one at a time
-Opening my work calendar first thing, it said I should be at a dental appointment; upon calling, found out they had not rescheduled me for this a.m. as they should have (figured out why I hadn't received a reminder call), but was relieved I hadn't messed anything up
-Doing the financial research I needed to figure out
-Those sweet baby kitties I live with; it's so nice to know they are happy to see me when I get home!

Very grateful for: the end of the month for another wonderful month approaches!

And grateful indeed that Rosy is continuing to do well and heal beautifully. So grateful for excellent medical care for her.

And grateful for a good meal today. Was able to cook some really good food today and continue to use up what we have.

And grateful that sis is nearly to the end of her school year. Summer vacation approaches!

Kim and Rosy, a heart team

So happy to be here among you today~~

~ SADNESS at the passing of a member of my spiritual community -- a spiritually engaged, wise, kind, dearly loved being and JOY at a new addition to the planet, arriving to a young, bright, socially engaged local couple

~ I had a net gain of just under half a pound between May 8-29 because of immoderate portions and ice cream on vacation! I hope to make it below the 150s within the next couple weeks

~ I've begun doing water therapy of sorts some days each week in hopes of helping to oheal my arm and hip, and I'll be going to an aquarobics class today

~ thoroughly enjoyed the movie Finding Neverland and blown away by the depth of Johnny Depp's portrayal -- highly recommended

~ continuing to go on morning bike rides a few times a week, some longer than others

Blessed be,
Maha

Finding Neverland
This charming account of a period in the life of author J.M. Barrie (Johnny Depp) reveals the real relationships and events that served as the basis for the author's most iconic work, "Peter Pan." After Barrie develops a platonic relationship with the widowed Sylvia (Kate Winslet) and her four sons, he is inspired to write a play about a group of children who don't want to grow up. The work proves a hit and winds up bringing Barrie and the children together in a way he had never expected.

Grateful
* For a lot of well needed downtime this weekend, after an extraordinarily busy, emotionally draining week.
* For a friend, who is taking me "backup camera for my car" shopping on Tuesday
* For my mom...today would have been her 93rd birthday. Hard to believe she's already been gone five years. My best friend. My giggle partner. My confidant, and my source of ongoing support and love. I miss her terribly but was so blessed to have her as long as I did...
* For my dad, who is still hanging in. At age 96, he astounds me.
* For finding a Burmese restaurant, where my travelmate to Myanmar and I had lunch this week, and savored the pickled green tea salad, just like we did while we were there!
* For my pool finally being heated, and to open it for the season, a friend is coming over tomorrow to swim with me!

Grateful
* For the opportunity to be involved in so many meaningful volunteer programs
* For the support I received when I was "bullied" at a board meeting, and considered resigning. I realize it is an ongoing issue, and I am only the "current target".
* For running into my former coworker and a former boss at a restaurant yesterday. It had been more than 25 years since I had seen either of them! The reconnection was so FUN! And they are planning a large reunion next weekend, falling on the one day in the week I have no plans!
* For my Doctor and dear friend...After 30 years of his friendship, support, and care, he is stepping down and entering the world of retirement. He took such good care of my husband, and has seen me through so much. From serious medical issues, to serious loss issues, to boring things like the flu, knee injuries, travel stories, and so on. I feel like such another rock in my life is crumbling, but I am blessed to have known this kind and amazing man all these years.
* That I didn't buy the new car I was looking at the other day!

And grateful for the fact we have a freezer full of food, so that when money is tight, there are still possibilities.

Grateful for a good appointment for Rosy today and for the fact that she feels pretty much better. For the ability to pick her up.

And grateful for the flowers from the plant sale. Looking forward to planting them and it will be a blessing!

Thankful today for so much, but especially:

Family for being understanding when I am grouchy due to lack of sleep.
Rosy for being happy every day and for those little tongue touches she likes to do to my bare legs. Hooray for shorts weather!
For being able to do laundry so easily. Not always the case for everyone in this world!
For forgiveness, both mine and others toward me.
For a bright sunny day.
And for the ability to take Rosy to a massage appointment. Luckydog, lucky me!

GRATEFUL
* For Versed, the amazing drug, which took away my paralyzing anxiety prior to my colonoscopy yesterday, and enabled me to sleep through the procedure and the rest of the day!
* For there being NO evidence of recurrent cancer! Hallelujah!
* For a surprise visit from granddaughter
* That my son feels ready and is enjoying his new found role as a part time consultant to many of his former clients. What an honor for him to have FORTY TWO job offers when he announced his retirement after losing his wife. Says something to the amazing performance he did during his 20 year career in management....
* For losing 6 pounds since returning from my European getaway...and not gaining anything while I was gone!
* For a free "silver fit" class at a local gym. Killer work out, but SO good for me!

Last night as I left the local Master Gardener Volunteers meeting, I rejoiced in:

The smell of spring
The fact I have plants in my car to plant and care for
The beauty of the plants I chose, those vibrant reds, pinks, and yellows
Being here and fully present in the moment of spring
Loving the company of the other Master Gardeners, people who have spent their lives caring for plants (and thereby this world). I have so much to learn from them.

And last but not least, that today I am going to have a hair cut. Boy, do I need it! LOL!

And grateful for Maha. :) I love reading your posts.

Back from a week out of town, with much gratitude~~

~ SO happy for your good news on the CEA, Kathy!!! May the remaining tests be completed easefully (a colonoscopy "easeful?" lol) *without a hitch!*

~ working through an insurance crisis, and finding a resolution that at first didn't appear possible

~ won't be able to see my doc until June (had an app't. today that I cancelled when I found they don't participate in my HMO) and I'm hoping my arm will have improved sufficiently by then that it will be unnecessary

~ cooked up lots of healthy, tasty items yesterday and I'm hoping that I will at least be the same weight as two weeks ago when I do my "official" weigh in tomorrow

~ more aware with each passing day of not taking *life* for granted and trying to be present for each moment.

so many good things happening recently, and just very pleasant at the family home. Very grateful for this time.

Beautiful cool weather right now. So grateful for a little bit of spring before we dash into summer!

Very grateful to be here and read all your gratitudes and for being reminded daily that there is always something to be grateful for.

Grateful this Sunday morning for ...

~ a magical retreat yesterday full of human connection, vulnerability and courage
~ a thunderstorm rolled in just after we talked about facing adversity
~ we stayed and faced the rain & wind -- part of the day's magic
~ kitchen will be totally finished & paid for today -- so pleased with the results
~ women coming to meeting here tomorrow night to discuss forming a women's group
~ who is interested in participating (and who is not) -- not who I would expect
~ time to finish setting up kitchen late this afternoon
~ a new cabinet to store paint and cleaning supplies in the basement
~ slept like a log last night
~ discovering I have posted here roughly 5x/week average since I joined in Nov 2009
~ reflecting on how this practice has affected me
~ treasuring each one of you who are committed to this practice
~ all is well

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-An excellent massage
-Clean sheets
-Clean PJs
-A night at home to watch TV and play with the kitty girls, pretty much my favorite thing these days
-Kathy's good health (definitely holding you in my thoughts and prayers)
-My comfortable home
-Margaret Atwood, as I take another foray into one of her novels (after re-reading "The Handmaid's Tale," then reading and watching "Alias Grace," now I've started "The Blind Assasin") - what an excellent writer

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

grateful,

* For the privilege of growing old. Not everyone gets that opportunity!
* For an easy return for luggage that I ordered, that was not at all what I expected color wise and for finding a different bag, with excellent reviews, that was less expensive!
* A day with NOTHING on my schedule...
* CEA (cancer marker) came back low normal! (now on to the colonoscopy on Monday...) * Friends who are holding me in thoughts and prayers as I go through my first major diagnostic tests as followup to cancer surgery almost a year ago. Annual procedure for the next four years....
* Access to good health care.

Today I'm grateful for:

-Ann noticing my absence (not sure where I drifted off to for days) ... hahahaha!
-Having many varied interests in life, that allows me to change direction easily to what fits my mood at the time and keeps me from getting bored
-Taking some "organizing and prioritizing" time at work today
-Being at a point in life where I just don't like unnecessary drama
-Even more importantly, more wisdom on how to steer clear of unnecessary drama and the people who thrive on it (an add-on to my earlier lesson on NOT hiring friends)
-Setting my alarm for 7 a.m. Saturday so I don't miss asparagus AGAIN this weekend at the farmer's market (not my preferred rising time on a weekend, but for asparagus ...)
-Scheduling an early Friday night dinner with friends

Have a good evening!
Stephanie

Grateful today for:

Good people in my life, including Rosy's massage therapist
Good things happening, like spring! I saw a patch of snow on the ground, so we are not far out from our last snow fall, so the signs that spring is actually here and summer is coming are very exciting to us poor Northerners!

And a really good work session with a friend. I am coaching her in a dog sport and that is going really well.

Today I am grateful for:

-Total peace and quiet at work from noon on as most of the rest of the department went to the Royals' baseball game that I opted out of ... I get SO much done when it's like this at work and I'm just not a big baseball fan
-Living with the "layers of the onion" theory in friendship; it's helped me a great deal in not having to be so black and white about friendship
-Lesson learned: don't hire friends
-Working through finances of catching up nonessential house upkeep that I let go for 3-4 years as I adjusted to a single income, and being compassionate with myself on it
-Accepting that I can't travel out of the country to honor my upcoming milestone birthday, for more reasons than one
-Those three wonderful kitties that make my life so much better, except for the hairballs!! LOL

Have a great evening,
Stephanie

~ noticing & accepting co-workers treat you differently after you announce semi-retirement
~ gardening is giving me great satisfaction after 40+ years of avoiding it
~ resisting the urge to ruminate
~ preparing for retreat I will lead on Saturday
~ discovering FB marketplace & purchasing several items for daughter's wedding party
~ making progress on many projects - next one is to create a bed where weeds live now
~ hoping the urge to garden continues through the hot summer
~ calculating that I've averaged 25 posts/month in this community since Nov 20009

Grateful today, and always,
* For my family...
* For spending Mothers' Day with granddaughters and my son, whose grief is still very raw. Such a bitter sweet day.
* For being retired and able to get through jet lag without being obligated to keep a schedule
* For the lesson learned...never travel with alcoholics again....
* For hearing from a friend who seemed to have dropped off the planet for a few years. Safe and sound....
* For my HMO covering free membership to a gym that has "Senior exercise classes", and going to my first one today.

The freedom to change my mind and get some much needed sleep.

The financial resources to pay bills ad my father's patience when I don't pay one promptly. Poor man!

And always, grateful for the gift of Rosy, every day.

Incredibly grateful for (and praising God!) :

Rosy's good results at the vet. The lump is gone (or at least, he didn't mention it) and my speculation that this lump was due to the infected gland seems to be on the money.

Her great & humble behavior at the vet's. She's the most biddable dog I've ever had and this is the third round of this uncomfortable set of procedures. She accepted it gracefully, although she was glad to get back to me. Good girlie.

And for the rain, which we do need. Although that was a lot of rain over the weekend and today! Highest total in the area is over 6 inches combined. Yikes. The yard is looking green and lush.

Grateful for a chance at a good night's sleep tonight. Much to do tomorrow!

very grateful for Kathy's safe journey there and back again!

Grateful for a good rehab vet visit with Rosy today. Results of the x-ray mean that we know what's causing the limp and why the shoulder hasn't "healed".

Grateful for Rosy's gallant spirit and never-say-die heart. She's a true blessing and always so happy.

Grateful for parents' support of taking Rosy hither & yon. And grateful that I am able to still keep them well fed (the South Beach way!) while I am gone. They are doing well on this way of life and the eating choices are so much healthier around here.

Grateful for this house and a roof over my head. Such a big blessing in so many ways to be here with family.

Today I'm grateful for:

-Kathy making it back safely with lots of stories to tell and wonderful experiences
-Indeed, great memories of sharing my little personal nature sanctuary with Maha
-The full scope of nature, as I deal with (a first in 13 years) four frog bodies; I'm told it's not uncommon as males are very aggressive during mating season and females can die (sigh)
-Three of the sweetest kitties that make most everything a little better
-An amazing lunch with a friend I lost touch with 25+ years ago. We've both been at my company for years, but just ran into each other because he was in a different building; our lives and our losses parallel on so many levels it's uncanny. No coincidences ...
-My acceptance that some days are just going to be "off" days
-Always, my health

Have a good evening all -
Stephanie

Giving thanks this Tuesday evening for ...

~ high energy again today -- it's been years since I've had sustained energy like this

~ moved dirt from backyard to front yard, cleaned & organized upstairs, planted tomatoes -- all before noon today

~ released from the care of my endocrinologist yesterday -- guess I'm managing reactive hypoglycemia as well as can be expected (so I'm now in the care of my PCP)

~ make up class tonight with my favorite couple -- they are highly motivated to improve their relationship and fearlessly work hard to make it happen

~ accepting that something had to give -- we changed the date of a dinner party.

~ writing an email to our contractor this morning expressing our concerns, instead of fuming silently, that he's behind schedule and cut corners last Saturday -- then left early

~ giving myself permission to seek quotes from other vendors for the tile back splash

~ look forward to going to the botanical garden on Friday with brother & his family, including great niece & nephew

Grateful today
* For Stephanie setting up this thread in my absence
* For safe travels to and from Europe...and an amazing trip in-between flights!
* For Chase credit card who immediately picked up fraudulent charges on my card, and with whom I was able to resolve them without liability.
* For not gaining ONE pound while I was gone, despite the fact that I overate almost every day for three weeks! (but also walked 5-7 miles daily!)
* For staying healthy on the river cruise, while I was exposed to so many who were coughing and sneezing. Washed my hands, washed my hands, washed my hands
* For challenging, and conquering, many areas of my horrific fear of edges. For those of you on FB, check out my photos!
* For sleeping in my own bed last night....
* For my precious little dog having great care, and a 12 week old playmate in my absence

Grateful for:

cooperative spirit of Rosy, who goes obediently where I ask her too, even when she is worried she's going someplace that will cause her pain. It is for her own good, but boy, what a blessing that she trusts me.

Good night's sleep. Need to keep practicing good sleep hygiene!

For being in an area where there is really fabulous good doggie care to be found.

For feeling better day by day.

And for going ahead and doing my exercises though I didn't want to, initially. Felt good afterward and brighter.

That my sister is ok after an auto accident. Whew!

~ eating lightly today so far, and not feeling the need to eat constantly (like I usually do)

~ making progress in not lying to, in being honest with, myself

~ biking to chi kung today; though my energy is low and the heat is getting more intense, I nonetheless immensely enjoyed the ride

Today I'm grateful for all of this, and so much more:

-The amazing little private nature sanctuary that is my back yard
-Taking the day off yesterday from everything, including exercise
-A nap ... that doesn't happen often for me and it was very relaxing
-Everything in bloom: bright pink azalea bush, peonies in both fuchsia and light pink, purple lilac, honeysuckle and I'm keeping my eyes on the water lilies (my record is three blooms at the same time)
-The standing stations at work that I use most days, walking in place while I work, adding so many steps, which adds to my fitness
-Those kitty girls I live with who LOVE to nap! I had all 3 right there with me ...

Have a good day all -
Stephanie

On this lovely spring evening, I'm grateful for all of this, yet so much more:

-Open windows throughout the house with a lovely breeze blowing through
-Discovering I can hear the waterfalls with my office windows open, like right now, as I ponder with wonder all I have to appreciate
-Freshly mowed lawn
-Making brunch for a friend who's known me since I was 20 (nearly 40 years) and hadn't seen since last year; we had a lovely time catching up and all that I made turned out beautifully - I had not cooked for anybody else in over 4 years
-My adorable and amazing kitty girls, also loving having the windows open
-Brunch plans tomorrow with a ... hmmmm ... cousin-in-law(?); my sister was married to her cousin, I'm clueless here; she has talked about us getting together for decades and never followed through ... I think cancer maybe changes a person's outlook
-Thinking right this moment that an evening walk at the park might be in order and it's very doable, if I can pull myself away from the waterfalls

Good evening all -

Stephanie

Today I am grateful for:

-My safety; it's now tornado season and last night, one touched down a few miles away
-The vibrant colors on my lunch plate: 5-bean salad with corn/black beans/red pepper, plus sliced zucchini, avocado and a mandarin
-Never feeling alone as long as I have my three diva kitty girls with me
-Still having my mother around and in decent health, as two co-workers have lost mothers this week
-Contacting a dear friend when I saw Patty Griffin was going to be in concert in a nearby college town; she's a favorite of said friend, who has now thanked me over and over
-Always, my health

~ continuing my commitment to weekly blog and weigh-in, I'm down a whooping five ounces!

As my housemate says, I'm going in the right direction.

~ after yesterday's 16-mile bike ride to qigong class, I plan to get another good ride in today.

~ happy to hear that my housemate has decided to get some needed dental work done (a bridge)

~ still working with my confusion and disappointment and other myriad emotions after a recent interaction with a best friend, and aware that I don't have many friends to look to in a time like this

Blessed be,
Maha

Grateful for:

A new month, with much to be accomplished and amazing achievements ahead.
That Rosy is feeling better and is on an antibiotic for an infection. Poor girlie! But we have good vet care, for which I am thankful.

For a loving family and a good home

That parents are doing well

And that sis is doing well at work.

Kim and Rosy, a heart team

Grateful this first day of May for ...

~ May Day in all its many expressions around the world
~ this gorgeous weather we have been having
~ overnight guests provide a compelling reason and a deadline to clean my upstairs
~ the incredible flowers our prolonged cool weather has produced
~ striving to use each moment to make mindful choices consistent with my values
~ accepting when I fall short and moving on
~ recognizing I am a work in progress (always)
~ a good news call from my son - amazing what two days riding does for his mood
~ hopeful he actually will finish his degree after a lapse of 12 years
~ 10 older women committed to meeting to talk about forming a women's group
~ three days in a row with energy to do projects joyfully instead of dogged tired
~ all is exceedingly well

shine,
sandra

Another new beginning ... each day we are grateful, every month, any small step we take ... I thought this was well worth 2-1/2 minutes, even though it reinforces what we already know. I hope you enjoy.

I'll be back tomorrow to post on the first day of May. For now, I'm grateful for each of you in this amazing ThanksGiving Community ... and I bow to you for all we share in this practice.
