On this last day of March, I am grateful
* I finally dropped another pound. NOTHING for almost two weeks!
* I continue to maintain strict eating habit of documenting every bite that goes into my mouth
* An amazing Broadway production of "Amazing Grace" that I had the opportunity to see yesterday. Thanks to the executive director at our performing arts center.
* Getting three weeks of laundry done
* Movie date this evening.
* My son and grandkids finding a new way to get through their first Easter with just the three of them. As much as I miss having them here for Easter, I am so thankful to see them happily traveling through Greece.

Today I'm grateful for:

-A 4-day weekend .... aaaaaaaah
-Sunshine, after many days of none
-Getting my car washed and driving with my sunroof open
-Driving my taxes to my CPA in a small town just north of the river
-Said town having a nature sanctuary; I took lunch, had a picnic, walked a beautiful trail along a stream up to a small waterfall, saw two HUGE does, birds galore, including a little woodpecker pecking on a tree near my bench
-How much both nature and sunshine do for my soul
-Getting "the" call today ... the Artful Ashes memorial I had made from some of B's ashes arrives either tomorrow or Monday; April 1st would be our 17th anniversary
-My three diva kitty girls

Many gratitudes
* A weeklong opportunity to work in a homeless shelter. To provide 1:1 mentoring, foot soaks and massages, and an ear...
* Reminders of how very blessed I am materially
* Reminders that I am not alone as I pass through this journey of life
* For my health, as fragile as it seems sometimes, that allows me the strength and energy to carry on
* For our second spring, with recent rains bringing about April flowers just a little early

Grateful for:

American Idol, for reminding us that one, working hard on your goals can bring you many good things and two, that recording yourself and listening with a discerning ear can tell you what you need to work on and where you need to improve (or reset your goals!)

Why is this a important reminder? Because most of the people are not going to get through, even if they are good singers. Just like most of us are probably not going to be Olympic athletes. But we can be the very best selves and work on improvement, work on recording our thoughts, food, etc. so that we can keep working to achieve goals. Most of us can achieve those goals, it just takes planning, tweaking, and being willing to try again.

And no, I don't want to be on that show. ;)

Just some thoughts for a grey lovely day, with much needed rain. Grateful for that too!

THE EVERYDAY ENCHANTMENT OF MUSIC

A rough sound was polished until it became a smoother sound, which was polished until it became music. Then the music was polished until it became the memory of a night in Venice when tears of the sea fell from the Bridge of Sighs, which in turn was polished until it ceased to be and in its place stood the empty home of a heart in trouble. Then suddenly there was sun and the music came back and traffic was moving and off in the distance, at the edge of the city, a long line of clouds appeared, and there was thunder, which, however menacing, would become music, and the memory of what happened after Venice would begin, and what happened after the home of the troubled heart broke in two would also begin.

* That despite emotional setbacks and discouragement about my weight, I have stuck to my eating plan at least 98% of the time for over a month. Down 12 pounds!
* For the amazing day yesterday, standing in solidarity with people all over the world, and being able to walk over 5 miles supporting the March for Our Lives
* For the courage of the students, their ability to speak with eloquence, and the passion to end the violence
* For sharing the experience with special friends.
* For Pope Francis

Grateful on this cold breezy morning for so many things:

The ability to feel that cold air and feel invigorated.
The blessing of a fenced in backyard, where I can walk my dog and keep her company outside
The blessing of living in a safe town (relatively!) where people are friendly
Having a knowledgeable and experienced post office staff to help with the complexity of mailing things to foreign countries

Now waving down below to Maha ..... Hellllllloooooo!

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-Ann's fall not being serious!
-Sandra making good retirement decisions
-Maha's housemate having positive life changes
-Good medical care (Maha, will be joining you on steroids, but only for 5-day dose)
-My overall good health; I'm just temporarily doubly dysfunctional (diagnosis dual eustachian tube dysfunction) ... which could explain several things that have been going on
-Taking huge advantage of the standing stations at work still, 3 days in a row, pumping up those steps big
-Costco shop done, including helping friend stock up on her stray cat food
-A night at home with my kitty girls
-My warm, soft bed that's calling me soon ...

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

*Waving* down to Stephanie -- Helloooooooooooo!

Grateful this evening~~

~ got a new AM/FM/CD unit installed in my vintage (2005 lol) Honda Civic

~ snacking on a heavenly -- very sweet and very juicy -- pear

~ apples, oranges, and pears have been unusually good this season

~ so fortunate to have access to such good food

~ with about 20 lbs. yet to go in my weight-loss journey, I'm so fortunate to have the resources and tools I've learned from WeightWatchers and SparkPeople (and like ABurris, "grateful to have so much experience in the kitchen to call upon when inspiration is low"), even though I'm finding myself constantly challenged in many ways this time, including the addition of the prednisone med, which I've been on for almost a year, and will be on for several more months

Blessed be,
Maha

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-Another day of taking advantage of the standing work stations two floors down, getting 45 minutes of walking in place and 3,000+ steps, all while working
-Those sweet kitties I live with who give me purpose, unconditional love, healing, companionship and laughter
-Energy to go to the family room and do an upper body strength training workout; I've been very cautiously doing two LIGHT upper body sessions weekly and want to keep that pace
-Getting in to see the nurse practitioner in short order (tomorrow) for a small ear issue that I've needed to have looked at for months now (kept thinking it would resolve itself)
-Making Saturday plans to walk (weather permitting) and play Perquackey with a friend
-Tomorrow looking like it's going to be a very easy Friday at work

On this beautiful sunny and cold day,

Grateful for easy access to a massage therapist, who also does dogs. Rosy is so much more comfortable now.

For parents, whose voices I can hear in the other room. At my age, so lucky to still have these special wonderful people in my life.

For knowledge of family history and understanding where the family came from

For blessings that abound, even in the midst of bad things happening

Today I'm grateful for:

-Signing up with two co-workers for my company's next healthy incentive program (exercise); the team accountability is motivating
-The company setting up a room two floors down (just a stairwell away) with three computer setups for people who want to take a break and work while standing
-Taking advantage today, walking in place while working for 35 minutes, adding 2,500+ steps, burning calories AND getting off my butt from the chair in my office: win-win-win
-My favorite bean salad in our cafeteria today; I always stock up with two containers of it, one for work and one to take home
-Continuing to remind myself to drop the "all or nothing" attitude; it applies to exercise AND other areas of life (breaking tasks down into small increments)

Today I'm grateful for:

-Letting myself "go with the flow" over a long weekend
-Doing much better with not taking things personally; I often remind myself of The Four Agreements, thank you Don Miguel Ruiz
-Getting through the first of this string of anniversary markers (sigh ...)
-Reaching out to a friend who's struggling, but not talking; setting a lunch date for Friday with hopes she might vent one on one (elderly parent with Alzheimer's), won't push, just want to give her another option
-Friend who also wants to go see "A Wrinkle in Time," so we're going to make plans
-Setting intentions for tonight's workout

Grateful this rainy morning
* FOR the rain! We have been so dry...and it is awesome to see the hills bursting forth with green!
* For my amazing granddaughter, who is turning SIXTEEN! Oh, they grow up so fast, but seeing the joy in her, and knowing the wonderful things life has in store for her, warms my heart...
* For the amazing crew I work with at the homeless shelter...their commitment, their kindness and acceptance
* That I live in California.
* For my new trainer, who is not patronizing, and listens to me...
* For the scale FINALLY showing another 4 pound drop! 10.5 pounds in a month!

grateful
~to share in solemn ceremony
~when there is unity and diversity in the same space
~for safe driving in poor conditions
~to make wise food choices today
~for much needed listening and encouragement from a trusted small group

The body is a sacred garment.
It's your first and last garment; it is what you enter life in and what you depart life with,
and it should be treated with honor.

Tonight I'm grateful for:

-An opportunity at work that I accepted and deem "an adventure." I was given two "suite" tickets, with parking pass, to see Pink in concert tomorrow night at a huge venue I've never been to before (tickets are outrageous) and the suite is food and drink included
-Delighting a dear friend who loves Pink by asking if she wanted to go
-Having people who care about me; it makes such a difference in my life
-I already had Friday scheduled off work because it's the 4th anniversary of Beth's passing and a music concert seemed an appropriate start to this weekend
-Getting another large batch of dry kitty food mixed up; I blend two types of dry food, but from 11.5 lb bags, so it's an ordeal
-Hearing Rosie's demanding yowls now that her ball has, once again, been located!! emoticon
-Warmer temps today and lots of sunshine; I thoroughly enjoyed driving home from work when it wasn't dark
-My yard is in better shape this year than the past four years; methinks I should make some gardening or planting or other project up for the near future ... my water gardens will be opened again mid-April-ish
-A soft, comfortable bed that's calling me right now and has at least one cat, if not two or three soon, waiting ...

Goodnight all,
Stephanie
