Midway through the year.....and thought I better check in. So...where am I with my strides?

1. To continue my journey toward health...tracking food and exercise with my fit it, and aiming for a loss of 1-2 pounds a wee.
**** I seemed to have lost my way for a few months, but am back on the wagon, tracking my food, wearing my fit bit, and the scale should start showing results soon.

2. Keep the options and my heart open as I actively seek a new relationship.
***** On track with this one. Ended a two year relationship that was never going to evolve to what I wanted. Now, keeping my heart open and I may have found what I have been seeking.

3. Eliminate at least another 1/3 of my possessions
*** Some gone, but no where near enough

4. Re-do my bedroom...ridding myself of all things Alan (except pictures and what I treasure in my heart)
**** Not even close....

5. Clean and organize the office, and for an ongoing basis, keep all paperwork where it should be
**** Not even close

6. Take up painting again
**** Thinking about it! But still no action.

SO....I can see that I lost focus. I am not beating myself up, or feeling like a failure. Just reassessing and starting today to strive to do more....

Mary Jo -

Your goals don't have to feel limited ... remember, they can be fluid ... adding to or taking away from as needed!!!!

My list was simply to guide myself in what to focus on, and you've done the same!!!!

Kathy - I was going to give you a hard time if you didn't get to this before too long since you challenged me!!! :-)

Here's to a new year with new focus for all of us ... in whatever direction that takes us!

Stephanie

My goals feel very limited to me as I used to be able to do so much.

1) to declutter a little bit every day and log what I have done.
2) keep pantry organized and keep a list of what I need to replenish with
3) keep working at being more active when I can, working towards more each week
4) use my spreadsheets that are set up for me so I can remember what I need to do and take care of each day.
5) shred papers each day - instead of letting them pile up.

More to come

Thank you, Mary Jo and Stephanie for posting here. I have had every intent, but have been terribly remiss....part of it my own fault, and part of it due to travel and lack of ability to log onto this site.

So here goes!

1. To continue my journey toward health...tracking food and exercise with my fit it, and aiming for a loss of 1-2 pounds a wee.

2. Keep the options and my heart open as I actively seek a new relationship.

3. Eliminate at least another 1/3 of my possessions

4. Re-do my bedroom...ridding myself of all things Alan (except pictures and what I treasure in my heart)

5. Clean and organize the office, and for an ongoing basis, keep all paperwork where it should be

6. Take up painting again

At Kathy's prompting, I am posting here a blog I did early in the year. It is posted with gratitude to Kathy, because it plants these things in my head again. But even more, on this 2-year anniversary of when Beth fell and was diagnosed with aggressive cancer, I post this again because I know she would want me to enjoy life while I can and be the ever-changing and growing person I have always been.

My January 2, 2016 blog:

As I head into 2016, it occurs to me that I really do not like to make New Year's "resolutions," partly because the term feels so resolute (ha!). All joking aside, the word, for some reason, feels stiff and rigid to me - and so easily broken when it's so rigid.

I've decided to put my own name to it and call my 2016 goals my "focus areas." I've always loved James Redfield's words, "Where attention goes, energy flows." So this year, I'm picking areas to give attention to in all parts of my life. But those areas can be fluid, going stronger and weaker at times, or going away for short periods of time, if appropriate. For example, with exercise, I believe in one full day of rest a week. Just like my body needs a periodic rest, so does my mind, so I want the occasional day where I can go "out of focus," for lack of a better way to explain.

So this year, I want to focus on:
-A continued gratitude practice
-Doing more random acts of kindness
-Consistent exercise (no resolution to work out every day!); in 2015, I successfully dumped the "all or nothing" attitude
-Farmers markets, as soon as they open, hopefully weekly (we have several organic markets and some are even open for evening hours, not just weekends)
-Finding out who I am now when I'm totally by myself after losing my partner of 13 years
-A few home projects that were delayed for reasons out of my control
-My writing; I have a friend who wants to have planned writing sessions every 1-2 weeks, plus I want to do more writing in solitude; I've found both to be helpful with creativity
-Check out some Communiversity classes; the catalog comes out in January and they have all kinds of short-term, non-credit classes for a variety of interests (meditation, writing, cooking, music, etc.)
-Continuing to add new life to this new life of mine, whatever that means
-Read more (I just ordered TWO used books on amazon.com relating to the saxophone)
-Start playing an instrument again, either picking up the guitar more (I played years ago) or tackling the saxophone (or I could try electric guitar, bass guitar, mandolin, keyboards - I have much variety available to me in my partner's music room), the idea is to bring PLAYING music back into my life
-I think the last few areas of focus can be looked at as my desire to put more creativity into my life!

So I might have to come back and add to this blog as I begin to focus more on my 2016 areas of focus! But I think I've hit the nail on the head with wanting to be fluid ... in all that I do, giving myself a bit of freedom to change course, refocus, whatever I need to do!

Stephanie

As I have many medical issues and can not really work out - I have set myself a goal of at least getting in 5000 steps a day. I know it should be 10,000 but I will need to work up to that. Also another goal is to get at least 5 hours of sleep each night. I use a fitbit for both of these goals and plan to make sure I do my best to get there.

It takes teamwork to make the dreamwork.

I am sorry I didn't get this set up sooner. I don't believe in "New Year's resolutions". They only set one up for failure.... But I DO believe in setting goals for the new year...and checking your progress quarterly. MUCH more achievable...

I have set some for myself, and as soon as I have time to figure out a way to concisely post them, I will. Please feel free to post yours here in the meantime.
