Gratitude expressed on Tuesday... a HOT Tuesday
* For dinner with a special friend (who also lost her husband unexpectedly a few years ago) and seeing her giddy with excitement when talking about her first date as a widow!
* For great progress in the kitchen...cabinets should be in by end of day
* For my amazing circle of friends
* For air conditioning as the temperatures sizzle
* That my DIL had a clean bill of health! And that to celebrate, my son is taking the family on a week long raft trip!

June 17-30

For each of you; exams passed, garages cleaned, return to health and all words shared.
For the sunlight that feeds my happiness
and for two weeks to spend with my old parents
reading letters from my grandparents
staring at pictures and walking myself into rooms
I haven't visited in years.

Every day, think as you wake up, today I am fortunate to be alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others; to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others, I am not going to get angry or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can."

Grateful beyond belief
* That the three car garage...which had been previously filled with only a trail to the outside (Thank you dear hubby, for having been a hoarder) is now reasonably empty, and the box car sized dumpster in front of my house is now totally filled.
* For my work horse son, and my 11 year old granddaughter, who amazed me with her strength and energy (as much as a 20 year old male!) and carried everything to the dumpster almost single handedly!
* For a relationship that is rapidly blossoming into something extraordinarily special.
* For my gardenia bush that has had such an abundance of fragrant flowers this year. Must love the heat AND dry soil!
* For my grass, that is marginally green...just enough to stay alive...while we cope with this drought
* For my contractor, who came up with a fabulous decision to make my new kitchen amazing.

Friday evening and I am exceedingly grateful
* To have a quiet house for the first time this week....
* That I "survived" the past few days with all the obstacles that were thrown at me
* For an exciting new "friendship"
* For being challenged
* That the dumpster has been delivered, for the big garage clean out to begin!

February 23, 9013, 71st birthday in Ecuador with Adelaida

Good morning,

YES! to that lovely smile of Sherrie's here! Among my many blessings~~

~ a very successful Skype video chat with my soul sister Adelaida yesterday

~ relieved at the stronger signal brought in by AT&T after all the nightmarish hoops I had to jump through to change from Sprint (after 15 years!)

~ not great, but doing okay with my first smart phone, an iPhone 6 (entering text on it is NOT appealing and I do it minimally, and will likely continue in that mode)

~ Sandra's loving support and assistance when I feel technologically challenged

~ rebbing up the motivation and enthusiasm to finish updating my resume and getting it "out there"

~ a Skype date with Stephanie tomorrow!!!

~ finally left only with some mucous residue after the yucky illness had me in its grip for about a week, and finding hot saltwater gargles very effective

Blessed be,
xox
Maha

A reminder for all of us today from the gifted Derek Walcott:

Love After Love (we can't read this too many times!) --

The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other's welcome,

and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.

Hello everyone,

I've had a LONG hiatus from participation here, but fortunately not from my gratitude practice. The reason is has to do with relying mostly on my smart phone for internet and being challenged to with posting here via my phone. I'm going to try and log into my desktop once a day for awhile and see if I can get a streak going here. Interestingly, as in the past, it seems that weight creeps up when I don't post. Of course, injuries which have prevented/limited my normal walking have also contributed, but still. So anyway, besides missing all of you and your lovely posts and presence in my life, I think I need to get back in the habit to help with my health. So here goes.

Today I am grateful for:
~ This community
~ This practice
~ Everyone on YOU
~ The internet

Grateful
* For a once in a lifetime experience with granddaughter last night. Seeing Peter Yarrow, take her by the hand, and instruct her and thank her for representing her generation
* For that brief moment he and I connected as I shared the impact his song, The Great Mandala, had on my life...tears in both of our eyes, and an embrace that said it all....
* For courage to finally break off an unhealthy relationship
* For being able to look forward with anticipation and hope
* For DIL's test results once again showing NO signs of cancer!
* For being a friend indeed, to the friends in need today....

Struggling to be thankful this morning as whatever virus I have seems to be worsening. That said, I have much to appreciate and these times of struggle are the most important times to remember to give thanks.

~ knowing this too shall pass
~ sweetie's homemade chicken soup (the only thing that tastes good)
~ a hot sunny day while I sit in my air conditioned home
~ people who love me dearly and I love them
~ an appreciative note from a former client
~ house purchase moving along, albeit not without significant bumps in the road
~ all is well ... life is good

Shine,
Sandra

for insight that clearly comes from age
for quiet after weeks of hammering
imagined improvements to home are becoming reality
to feel remaining resistance to being here dissipating
to love the little river and surrounding forest here in the Santa Cruz mountains

Tonight I am grateful for:

-Fast responses from both places I had to call about service issues
-Allowing myself an evening of tears and a day off to do nothing after saying goodbye to the hospice grief counselor I'd been working with for more than a year; she helped me through so much and gave me many tools; she loves music so I gifted her with two of Beth's CDs, the most meaningful "thank you" I could come up with; Beth's music lives on in many ways as I also gifted some of her music to the hospice house
-My amazing kitties and what spiritual little beings they are - they know, feel and they heal
-My comfortable home, my safe and secure zone
-My monster cherry tomato plant that keeps on giving
-The wonderful salad my nephew made with some of the cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, basil, sea salt and olive oil, all artfully arranged on the plate, by a 13-year old (and I have the last of those leftovers to eat)

Grateful this Tues afternoon
* For filmmakers which do the job...I am talking Love and Mercy, not Jurassic World
* For a new relationship blossoming
* For friends who call me on my behavior
* For technology which keeps us connected and informed
* For yet another opportunity to see Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey....COMP tickets! AND to spend time with them back stage! AND that my 13 year old granddaughter is excited about me taking her! AND I am excited that she will have the opportunity to hear someone else (besides me) talk to her about social justice.

Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.
-- Marcel Proust (via gratefulness.org)

Good morning charming gardeners,

The "blatently alive" morning is going well and I'm here to share some of the abundance~~

~ a wonderful computer shop with "down-home" competent techs who are kind and helpful and reasonable (sometimes they don't even charge me)

~ air conditioning, which makes this humid/hot AR summer easeful

~ weekly community meditation at the local library, such a wonderful resource in the middle of the Bible belt

~ Yes! to the pleasure of communing with Sandra...my "creeping crud" isn't getting me down either, and is very slowly receding, with the hacking cough being the last irritating symptom to clear

~ my very basic little 2005 Honda Civic, which continues to perform beautifully, going on 110, 000 miles now

Blessed be,
xox

Grateful on this Solstice Father's Day....
* For my dad, who has taught me, encouraged me, supported me, and loved me for all these years. How BLESSED to still have him at age 93!
* For my son, and what an amazing father he is...he who grew up with me as a single parent and no contact with his dad. Again, my own dad taught him.
* For seeing Peter Yarrow, and Noel Paul Stookey (Peter and Paul from the trio that included Mary Travers...) Fifth row center!
* For Peter, approaching me in the lobby and embracing me... I think he saw me weeping during the performance.
* For his most powerful song....the one that changed my life in 1967...that caused me to cry at that moment, and every time I have heard it since.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpIh68Kh
_-s
(again, Sparks link not working...)

* For being reminded of where I was....and where I am now....and wondering if I am doing enough for the planet at this point in time

Tonight I am grateful for:

-Waking up after a long nap and thinking it was 7:50 a.m. and I was late for work; then finding out in about 5 minutes it was 7:50 p.m. and I still have sleep time!!!
-The exhaustion that comes after 5 days with a 13-year-old; OK, so I can keep up with him for 9 hours at a water park, but it definitely tires me! :-)
-Sunday afternoon naps, something I could never do before
-My kitties curling up and napping with me, all of us happy to have our solitude back (despite loving having my nephew here)
-An important phone call that meant a lot to a few people
-My comfortable home and bed

Maria Center, Awakening Joy Retreat, St. Louis, MO, June 13, 2015 (thanks Rochelle)

Greetings long-lost gratitudin' friends!

Happy summer! I got back from my 9 mo. sojourn in Ecuador June 4. I'm still reeling, but I have myriad blessings~~

~ having a place to "land" and a friend who lets me stay rent-free

~ the good fortune to hear about while in Ecuador and be able to attend a meditation retreat so soon after arriving, James Baraz' Awakening Joy, and stay and commune with "remote location" New Moon Sisters Sandra and Rochelle!

~ the support and love of New Moon Sisters here in Conway, a group of women friends who have gathered together monthly to celebrate friendship for over 7 years now -- we met last night and communed over delicious food fare and gifts of spirit and material

~ an amazing father who loved and nurtured me for 25 years

~ the support this community provides by continuing unabated with the sharing of some of what's GOOD in our lives

Blessed be,
Maha

Tonight I am grateful for:

-My 13-yr-old nephew and another visit this year to make more memories
-Talking about old funny memories, including stories about Auntie Beth and a picnic we had on the living room floor on a blanket (in the A/C) because it was so hot/humid outside
-Carrying on tradition; four new koi for the water gardens picked out and named by my nephew
-My sweet kitties and how well they've done around a kid (unusual for them)
-My comfortable home
-That I can go to a water park with a 13-year old, up and down big tall steps for big, tall water slides and keep up with him and keep him entertained for NINE hours emoticon emoticon
-Always, always, my health!!!!

Sat Grats
* Sudafed...to counter the droppings from the HUGE tree behind my house!
* Evenings at the nearby school, which transforms to an unofficial off leash park for the dogs....and seeing Tiger Lily frolic with her friends. And watching the relationships build (and some that refuse to build) between them...
* Another incredible sunset
* A/C
* Exciting plans to fill the next several days.
* Humor. For me, necessary for survival.

I am deeply saddened and brought to tears this morning by the racially-motivated killings in Charleston and feeling helpless to know what I can do to make a difference. Despite this overwhelming sadness, I give thanks for ...

~ being able to feel and express my emotions without judgment
~ being able to love and accept the love of sweetie, friends, family & all of you
~ caring about others both known and unknown
~ having had the luxury to live out my values through my career
~ believing in a higher power that gives me hope
~ knowing all I have has come to me by grace, not birthright or earned
~ learning to love & care for myself as much as I love & care for others
~ believing that these times of violence, fear & hatred will eventually pass
~ as Stephanie says, always, always my overall good health

Let the light of love and hope shine today and always,
Sandra

June 16-17

For the birthday of my dear Jan's daughter, 27 years ago today. A red head born the summer of the Yellowstone Fires. On the phone this afternoon she says 'I don't think I could love anyone as much as my mom loved me'. Glad she knows this on this 5th birthday without her mom.

Grateful today...
* For what appears to be a "turn around" in a very weird week.
* The set of keys I lost at an huge outlet mall on Monday was found today!
* After calling every name on every list, my neighbor's son was finally able to find a doctor who would accept "Healthy California" (the new mandatory insurance option) and got an appointment. He was discharged from an emergency room and supposed to see a doctor within 48 hours. It took 5 days to find one, and two more days to get an appointment for what could be a potential life threatening condition....But he has one! emoticon
* For my sense of humor and ability to put some things in their proper perspective (as in my neon red hair with a botched cut, the dog who peed all over my back, the chaos I am currently living in...)
* For subtle reminders of how important it is to be honest.
* For tomorrow's date with the grandkids.

Tonight I am grateful for:

-Learning each 16th of the month to walk through a tough date with less heaviness, just letting it be (but it's been 15 months today)
-Always, my health
-This innate quality of mine that LIKES exercise; geez, if I didn't have that, don't know where I would be
-My wonderful kitties
-My 13-year-old nephew who arrives tomorrow (I'm hanging out with a teenager now for awhile; nice change of perspective, I'm sure)
-Special times that make unforgettably good memories with those we love
-My comfortable bed, calling me now

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

I am thankful for enough health to go to the garden and work
for strength and flexibility (ignoring arthritic pain and sore spots)
for like minded gardeners who delight in the creation of fresh veggies from seeds and weeds
for a loving family and grandkids,
for a meditation on joy from Mother Teresa

* A friend who loves my pool as much as I do, and has committed to joining me twice a week for our backyard workouts!
* Feeling better after processing grief last night

* Night time breeze cooling things off.
* That silly movie Bridesmaids...Remembering the first time I saw it, on a plane, with my hubby...and we could hardly breathe from laughter. And then realizing everyone was staring at us...and we burst into MORE giggles!

Grateful, on this June 12 (my wedding anniversary)
* For all the laughter my husband and I shared during our time together. Not everyone has/had someone with whom to giggle as much as we did.
* For all the memories that keep surfacing....I can actually smile now, instead of being overwhelmed with a flood of tears
* For a friend who took me out to dinner, "just because"
* For sharing funny stories with her...she who knew him and loved him, too.
* For keeping my tears contained all day....until now. And knowing I get 10 minutes to wallow before bed.

Congratulations, Sandra! Great looking house and personally, I love the window box for flowers! Please give that Maha a big hug from me and you all enjoy this weekend ...

Today I am grateful for:

-The talents of Randy Newman, who played/sang his own music and conducted our local symphony on several of his scores - Maverick, Avalon, Toy Story, etc., while giving our symphony BIG compliments as one of the best he's worked with in the country
-My friend who chose me to use her second ticket to Randy Newman, gifted to her by her elderly parents for helping them out "above and beyond"
-A night at home tonight; I've come to realize that I need to limit plans because I require more solitude these days (and that's OK, I don't give myself a hard time)
-Buying myself a ticket to see Lily Tomlin Saturday night (just wishing it wasn't the same week as Randy Newman); I'm hoping for a night of laughter, which I know is so good for the soul and I'm going with my friend that makes me laugh the most anyway!
-Looking forward to seeing an old, dear friend who's in town from CA tomorrow evening. Glad it's at home!!! Am hoping it's cool enough to enjoy some deck time!
-My awesome kitties - all three of them! My heart feels it when I pull up at 10 p.m. and see little Rosie (my tuxedo kitty) sitting at the window, clearly on lookout for me. They have dry food out 24/7, so I know it's not just food she's wanting. So sweet.
-My comfortable home
-Always, my health

Stephanie
