We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is rounded with a sleep.
-- William Shakespeare

Greetings friends,

Hanging close to home with a cold (or???), accompanied by NO energy. After yoga yesterday morning, which kind of "did me in" I came home and haven't left since. I DO have ennough "juice" to post here, though~~

~ wonderful to follow Dollybabe's joyful gratitudes

~ SOOOOOOOOO glad to hear the happy ending to Kathy's Tiger Lily story!!! (And thrilled about the wonderful wedding...such sweet and generous neighbors to Kathy)

~ happy to have a cozy little home here in Ecuador that I can "sort-of" afford on my fixed income

~ thankful to have bilingual skill, since I will need to look for part time work upon returning to the USA

~ invited, along with Adelaida, German and Amrita, to a traditional Easter Ecuadorian meal prepared by my landlady and her employee

Fanesca: A rich soup, with the primary ingredients being figleaf gourd (sambo), pumpkin (zapallo), and twelve different kinds of beans and grains including chochos (lupines), habas (fava beans), lentils, peas, corn and others, together with bacalao (salt cod) cooked in milk, due to the Catholic religious prohibition against red meat during Holy Week. It is also generally garnished with hard boiled eggs, fried plantains, herbs, parsley, and sometimes empanadas. (Mine will be served without the bacalao.)

Blessed be,
xox
Maha

Grateful on this last day of March...
* For the fabulous out of town wedding I attended this weekend. SO much love there...from the bride a groom themselves, to the extended families on both sides. Great food. Great music. Great venue. Great everything....
* That I actually survived my first wedding alone.
* For having the chance to lunch with my nephew and his wife while I was there
* For finding Tiger Lily after she got lost. What a scary few hours that was!
* For cooler weather, and some rain predicted this week.

Today my feelings of gratitude are deep and profound for the gift of Mary Oliver --

SUNRISE

You can
die for it --
an idea,
or the world. People

have done so,
brilliantly,
letting
their small bodies be bound

to the stake,
creating
an unforgettable
fury of light. But

this morning,
climbing the familiar hills
in the familiar
fabric of dawn, I thought

of China,
and India
and Europe, and I thought
how the sun

blazes
for everyone just
so joyfully
as it rises

under the lashes
of my own eyes, and I thought
I am so many!
What is my name?

What is the name
of the deep breath I would take
over and over
for all of us? Call it

whatever you want, it is
happiness, it is another one
of the ways to enter
fire.

~ Mary Oliver ~

Grateful tonight
* That after over two hours on the phone with Comcast...wifi restored, and I have internet access once again. (Still working on DVD player for netflix!)
* That there was no traffic en route to San Francisco airport this morning, so that I got the kids there on time!
* For the excitement as my son and family took off on their annual family vacation (this year to the Phillipines!)
* For transportation arranged for out of town wedding tomorrow
* That my pool is heated and I had this year's first one hour workout in water!
* That even though weight loss has been stalled for over a week, I am still "eating right" and knowing this plateau will break soon.
* For my neighbor's out of town family (parents, sibs, etc...) which has taken me in like I am part of theirs!

Good evening gratituders,

SO MUCH to be thankful for tonight~~

~ the affirmation in verse (in her April 26 post) by a client of what I already intuitively know about my dear friend Sandra, that she is a skillful, compassionate, insightful and dedicated practitioner

~ a certain, hard-to-express, special kind of feeling Rachel and Ann bring to the community

~ a dynamic day, including a lively conversation with a fascinating person on the 1/2 hr.bus ride home

~ avocado, mandarin orange (from the trees outside my kitchen), and olive salad with homemade balsamic vinaigrette

~ wonderful fresh (not dried) beans stew, a Maha creation

~ excited about Sandra's travel plans, but sad Ecuador isn't among them (Janice Carol "might" be visiting, if passport matters get sorted out!)

Blessed be,

Thankful this Thursday evening for ...

Shine,
Sandra

Sharing my innermost fears, secret talents, emotions – my entire being-- open, exposed, raw, a process allowing restoration to occur, a buried strength emerged from the depths of my soul, a completely different kind of journey began new awareness, which had not been imagined, believed or even dreamed was in my power or ability to accomplish.

Yet with help, guidance and direction, I developed useful skills and tools, an understanding and trust that not only increased my self-worth but also has empowered me for the remarkable transformation, a true metamorphosis, which has taken place right before our very eyes.

I am now mindful, so much more focused, able to clearly see the path awaiting before me.

Therefore, I have an unparalleled indebtedness to you, an utmost respect and heartfelt appreciation for you. A lasting impression has been granted. An indelible imprint forever touching my heart!

Tonight I am grateful for:

-Getting through my tightest 2 weeks at work mostly gracefully, and certainly gratefully (it will slow considerably after next Tuesday)
-Working late tonight to do all that had to be done "in office" so I can work from home tomorrow, hopefully with few interruptions
-That my friends at my favorite coffeehouse made me a special hot chai tea and gave me some chocolate zucchini bread
-Starting my gratitudes and quickly realizing a smoke alarm was chirping somewhere downstairs; locating it quickly so it didn't awaken me during the night
-My adorable kitty girls
-This practice and each of you who share in it with me

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

Grief and gratitude are kindred souls, each pointing to the beauty of what is transient and given to us by grace.

Thankful today
* That I am at the computer and can actually POST here (for some reason, my phone and iPad make it prohibitive!)
* For climbing out of yet another funk...will this grieving EVER end?
* For getting my passport renewal application completed, and photos taken
* For getting as far as writing my list in attempt to prioritize and organize the gazillion tasks that are facing me over the next few weeks
* For adhering to eating plan
* For having courage to attend my first wedding since losing my hubby...

It is better to travel well than to arrive.
-- The Buddha

Good morning dear friends,

Soo happy to be here this morning and full of thanksgiving~~

~ after an intense storm last night which zapped the electricity, it's a sunny morning and electricity has been restored

~ I'm "wired" again, with an antique, monstrous, clunky monitor loaned me by dear friends

~ the generosity and kindness of friends never ceases to amaze me

~ I misplaced my keys, and found them when I woke up at 3am this morning with an idea!

~ a lovely friendship is unfolding with an "alternative" ex-pat here in Ecuador

~ thoroughly enjoy MFK Fisher's The Gastronomical Me

Blessed be,
xox

I cannot figure out HOW I miss so many days of posting here! I list so many things I am grateful for every night when I get in bed...I just don't put them in writing every time...but tonight, I am...

* I found a reasonable (not great, but "reasonable") transition dress for a wedding next weekend.
* My allergies have somewhat responded to medications
* I have found compassion for those who suffer with them every year. Its been so long for me, I'd forgotten how miserable those sneezes and runny noses and stuffed sinuses can be!
* Knee is feeling better and it is back to the gym tomorrow
* Introduced my grandkids to fondue for their birthdays. Neither are cake lovers, so we had homemade caramel, and chocolate to dip into with a wide variety of fruit. They LOVED it. Huge success and new birthday tradition...

grateful
for our quiet home
to be driving a bit less
for the river in back when feeling hemmed in
for success at staying with a restrictive program
to feel more at ease

Thankful beyond words today
* For friends
* For a good walk yesterday, when I didn't really want to even get out of bed
* For blossoms everywhere. Even though the allergies are in high gear, the eyes are loving it!
* For passing through another rough day of grief
* For remembering to submit appliance rebate forms just in the nick of time!

I had an easy day at work today--yaayyyy!!

that I'm having to pee every hour (because I'm drinking much more water!); there could be worse problems!

the scale is telling me things I want to hear.

that the number the scale tells me doesn't affect my worth one way or the other.

that one housemate is having me teach her yoga! cool!!!

Tonight I am grateful for:

-Having all basic necessities, and then some
-Being able to share
-Getting back to the basic in life, one step at a time (cooking again, back into regular exercise, etc.), learning to take care of just me again
-Messages that come in all ways, shapes and forms; and being open to all of them
-My friend being done with all cancer treatment and now heading out to run a marathon in Atlanta this weekend (how amazing is that?)
-My home, my safe haven
-My three kitties (and how lucky they are (and I am) that whoever knocked the bottle of prosecco off the counter did not break it) - LOL
-My comfortable bed, soft pillow and kitties, all calling me now

Goodnight all,
Stephanie

May you experience each day as a sacred gift woven around the heart of wonder.
--beloved Irish poet John O'Donohue

Feliz Dia de San Patricio,

It's always special to enter this community of expressed gratitude, with friends that I feel so close to even though I'm so far away, and in some cases have not met physically (as if that matters for communion of spirit).

I feel blessed because~~

~ I'm here now (I mean here with you)

~ I spent some hours today in the hospital visiting my landlady, who is having knee surgery and she was grateful...and in good spirits about the surgery

~ a visiting friend from the USA, who has challenged me at times, but also offers me insights into myself and how to be more compassionate

~ the wonderful birthday gift she brought with her...an autographed CD by poet David Whyte called "The Poetry of Self Compassion" (after being introduced to him by me, she went to a workshop with him last month!)

~ a wonderful breakfast here with two "gringas" this morning, my friend and one who lives here (who I met through a mutual dear friend in NM)

~ the graceful ways Stephanie, Kathy, Sandra and Rachel are dealing with challenging times

~ seeing ROBIN (Genki Warrior) here AND loving her recent SP blogs!!!

Blessed be,
Maha

From my heart to yours:

BEANNACHT
"BLESSING"

On the day when
the weight deadens
on your shoulders
and you stumble,
may the clay dance
to balance you.

And when your eyes
freeze behind
the grey window
and the ghost of loss
gets in to you,
may a flock of colours,
indigo, red, green,
and azure blue
come to awaken in you
a meadow of delight.

When the canvas frays
in the currach of thought
and a stain of ocean
blackens beneath you,
may there come across the waters
a path of yellow moonlight
to bring you safely home.

May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
may the clarity of light be yours,
may the fluency of the ocean be yours,
may the protection of the ancestors be yours.
And so may a slow
wind work these words
of love around you,
an invisible cloak
to mind your life.

~ John O'Donohue ~

Tonight I am grateful for:

-Getting through tough days, both yesterday and today at work as a result of taking yesterday off to honor the 1-year anniversary of Beth's passing
-Ann, who brought a smile to me yesterday with her kindness
-Getting a card in the mail today from a dear old friend of Beth's that I had never met until she flew in from the east coast for Beth's music memorial; bringing another smile to me
-My sweet kitties who make me smile every day too
-My warm and comforting home
-A solid strength training workout at lunch today

Grateful
* That I have the courage to finally pack up my husband's clothes to donate
* That I am being kind to myself as the tears flow
* That I know others will really appreciate the fabulous new clothes they will get
* For an amazing retreat this past weekend...disconnected for the most part, but totally connected in other ways.
* For not wavering in my motivation to lose this excess weight
* For coming to grips with my physical limitations...

Grateful that when I just want to give up on all of it,
I can come and see your faces and words
and hang in there till I feel better.

Every day, think as you wake up, today I am fortunate to be alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others; to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others, I am not going to get angry or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can."
