A little late with this one...but I am thrilled that I have reached my goals for 2015!

1. To eliminate 1/3 of my material possessions.
DONE!

2. To re-establish regular exercise program, along with eating clean and controlling portions.
DONE! (at least for most of the year!) I have held off 34 pounds.

3. To focus on being more mindful of physical position in my environment and to remain injury free.
DONE! No injuries in 2015. Though my knees still are the source of pain and some physical limitations...

4. To renovate/remodel kitchen and so on.
DONE! Took six months and two days....a nightmare of a process, but the end product is fabulous!

5. To stay open to new relationships (wth men...)
DONE! The year didn't end with a date on 12/31 as I had hoped. But, I learned a lot about love, relationships, trust, sexuality and so on in 2015. I was in an off again, on again relationship that was so important to my emotional healing. This man helped me get through my surgery. Was by my side during the remodel project. Reminded me that I can love again. Relationship is over (took SO much courage and strength to end it!) and I am holding on to all the good parts of it.

Now, ready to find my last love!

I continue to be mindful of every goal listed. The only change in the last couple of months has been a 3lb gain. Walking is still sporadic but with generally longer distances.
With those things in mind, I've challenged my self to move the weight down by walking farther more consistently as well as cutting out the occasional cappuccino or gelato. Dairy still calls to me, apparently.
I intend to check in fully in another month to see how well my goals have integrated. I'm feeling positive about changes that have come about as a result of gentle persistence! Clearly, this is the way to go for me.

Three quarters of the year behind us....and one quarter to go. Where am I as I re-evaluate and modify goals?

1. To eliminate 1/3 of my material possessions.
* I have already met this goal by clearing out garage....but as I put things back into the kitchen, I plan on eliminating a lot more. AND still have several bags of clothing, etc to donate
******* MET/ on track to exceed!

2. To re-establish regular exercise program, along with eating clean and controlling portions.
* Major surgery with complications has put this on hold. However, pending any further problems, my doctor is releasing me to re-start exercise program on Nov 1. I have already spoken with my trainer about a modified program. Trying to walk a little each day. Yesterday, walked 11 houses up, and 11 houses back....my best so far!

As of yesterday, I have lost 37 pounds this year.
****** ON TRACK with this one....plan on continuing to remain on track as body allows.

3. To focus on being more mindful of physical position in my environment and to remain injury free.
***** ON TRACK with this one!

4. To renovate/remodel kitchen and so on.
* Living, dining, family room, hall and kitchen painted.
* New lighting in kitchen and dining
* New ceiling fan installed
* Floor leveled, and new hardwood throughout home, with exception of bed and bathrooms
* Entire kitchen remodel done (incredibly beautiful by the way!)
* New appliances in
***** ON TRACK with this one! Only need a couple of minor touch ups and problems fixed. Should be completed within next week.

5. To stay open to new relationships.
* I have maintained a very close relationship with a special man. Learning from him. Enjoying his support. But knowing at this point, the situation is complicated. Enjoying what we have now, knowing it is not forever....and there is more out there for me. Heart is open!
***** ON TRACK with this one!

In reviewing my progress, I can see that by the end of the year, I will actually be exactly where I hoped to be when I started out the year! YAY!

I am already identifying my 2016 goals!

A good time to look at what I'm doing this year!

I'm trying to be brave and kind. I'm trying to let go of what needs to go. I want to let each day happen and trust myself in what I say and what I do and what I eat.

Every day, think as you wake up, today I am fortunate to be alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others; to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others, I am not going to get angry or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can."

Friends:

I'm working on diminishing my belongings as well. It's harder to do in a land with no yard sales and Good Will stores but not impossible. Hope to be 3/4 of the ways there by Christmas

Working on living as simply as possible as we put all our resources towards one son's therapeutic school. Doing well.

Getting back to regular walks. Glad to have the company of dh for the first time in our 27+ year marriage. I want it to be fun and happy.

Detaching from problems I can't solve. This is a rough one for me but doing well overall and limiting my involvements in things I can't handle helps.

Sleeping without any aids. I went a year with little sleep and I'm glad to say that I am sleeping naturally for longer and longer each night.

:)

You sound so good, Kathy! Happy for you and your amazing progress.
I am checking in with my goals as well.

~to continue to look forward, letting go of what was
This work is ongoing, less difficult some days but always work.

~to stay with the work of extending mindfulness to include pain and dysfunction
Open focus meditation has brought profound change here. I do struggle with maintaining the practice, just making time for it, even though it's effectiveness is clear. Ack!

~to consider movement and healthy interaction as much as food for nourishment
Great change here as well, with much less angst in general and an openness to a more holistic perception.

~to maintain slow weight loss as a kindness to my being
I lost 15lb, reaching my first goal, and am on to the next 10. Breaking it up really helped emotionally. Sounds silly but it's true.

~to expand my repertoire in the kitchen for palates' sake
I've improved here, for sure, but am still so vulnerable to my moods. Clearly, on some level I resent the narrowness of my diet. My brain knows it's not worth adding back food groups that promote inflammation but my craving persists. I hope this changes with perseverance.

~to finish making our home safe and handicap accessible for our aging in place
Finishing phase2 and out of money. Time to save a bit before going forward. Good progress, though.

It will be so interesting to see where we are later in the year! This is kind of exciting!

Midway through the year.... I am updating each of my goals....

1. To eliminate 1/2 of my material possessions.
* I have donated almost all of my husband's clothing. And this past weekend, emptied out about 3/4 of a 3 car garage! Making GREAT progress, but still have a long way to go.
***** ON TARGET for success!

2. To re-establish regular exercise program, along with eating clean and controlling portions.
* I have done this much of the year thus far....though the past couple of months without a kitchen have made it VERY difficult. No work surface, nothing to cook in other than a microwave. So I have been dependent on frozen foods, pre made salads, and eating out. NOT the healthiest.... Still holding off 26 pounds. And will have new kitchen soon.... I also had a medical procedure which has kept me out of the pool for the past few weeks, and I (she said disappointedly) have not been to the gym in two months. :-(
***** NEED TO MAKE THIS PRIMARY FOCUS and not be willing to jump at any excuse to fail!

3. To focus on being more mindful of physical position in my environment and to remain injury free.
***** ON TRACK with this one!

4. To renovate/remodel kitchen and so on.
*Project began April 13. Several glitches along the way....but it is moving full speed ahead now, and will be magnificent when completed!
***** ON TRACK with this one!

5. To stay open to new relationships.
* Ended an unhealthy relationship. And am now in the midst of a new one... Taking it slowly. And it seems very healthy. Interesting. And possibly he is the "keeper"
***** ON TRACK with this one!

In reviewing my progress, I can see that by the end of the year, I will actually be exactly where I hoped to be when I started out the year! YAY! (Now, to get this weight loss issue back under control.....)

April check-in

I've been following up these intentions consistently and see movement in the right direction in most cases. It can be time consuming! All good practices, though.
I continue to be disappointed in my culinary efforts, however, which seems so strange given my skill level and prior creativity. In an effort to further reduce inflammation, 9weeks ago I removed all grain, dairy, sweeteners, peanuts and dried corn from my diet. I had long ago removed alcohol and soy. I rarely eat meat and sometimes fish. Physically, the improvement has been astounding. I've lost a few lbs, my blood pressure dropped dramatically and there is ease to movement and breath that I haven't had in years. Emotionally, I struggle with a somewhat constant desire to eat and boredom with what's available.
I am pleased with the successful changes in behavior and attitude. Clearly, I will be working on the food rut I find myself in so firmly.

April update:
1. No additional progress...but am going to be packing up the kitchen and sorting out things this week.
2. Holding at 30 pounds.
3. Original flooring not available, so choices still being considered. Sink, faucets, lighting choices made.
4. Demo starting April 13. Guaranteed (she said with hope in her voice) that project will be finished on time, despite contractor delay on start end.
5. Relationship was back on...but finally ended two days ago. No more Ciao, Auf Wiedersehen, or See you laters. It was a sad and final Good Bye. But...date with a new man this upcoming weekend! Keeping my heart and options open. And keeping a sense of humor with the insanity of online dating.

I appreciate the update idea, Kathy. I am moving generally in the right direction but have now printed my intentions out, large enough for me to see without my glasses, and will post them in my room...not to be forgotten.

I'm getting out of my chair to do that now...

March update...

First of all, I have to say how thrilled I am that I wrote my goals here. It serves as a reference point and helps me stay focused.

Update:
1. Have filled two large black bags full of clothes that no longer fit. They are in the garage ready to be donated.
2. I've lost 28 pounds and maintained a rigorous workout schedule usually three times a week at the gym plus a daily 1 to 2 mile walk with the dog.
3. I am continuing injury free… Making sure that I wear appropriate shoes, and that I keep focused on where I am at all times. And I'm taking measures to increase the safety features of my home (no more slick tile, no step down into a living room, etc.)
4. Contractor is hired. New appliances have been purchased. All choices made regarding cabinetry, counters, backsplash, flooring, carpet etc. Work begins March 23.
5. I just put an end to a very intense and honest relationship. It is a little painful...like being a kid and saying goodbye to a best friend because you are moving away. But despite a certain amount of sadness, I am able to maintain clarity. Because of keeping my heart open, I learned that I am capable of loving once again, that I am beautiful, and sexy, and that I have a lot to bring to a relationship. It was all worth the risk. I'm now waiting to "see what's around the corner".

I'm reflecting on this during this last evening.of 2014.

Some of what comes to mind~~

~ not resisting resistance

~ tuning into the "flow" of my life and going with it

~ Aubre Lorde's reminder that taking care of myself is not self-indulgent

~ the vital importance of meditation practice and a resolve to dive ever more deeply in the new year

How about you, Kathy, since you started this!

As we move into the new year, it is often a time of reflection and introspection. Using January 1 as a marker, people resolve to change, often make unrealistic demands on themselves...and thus break their "resolutions".

I like to think of a new year as a time of starting over... a clean slate. Laying down past resentment, grudges, and hurts. A time of forgiveness, of kindness and of soul searching. AND a time to set attainable goals. NOT resolutions to be broken, but things we can strive for...for the betterment of ourselves and others.

What are some of yours?
