My mom is 88 today and where would I be without her? She plays the piano by ear and can remember a story well and then tells it again. Here's to my first gratitude!

Every day, think as you wake up, today I am fortunate to be alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others; to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others, I am not going to get angry or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can."

Today I am grateful for:
~ corner of my park covered by naturalized crocuses and watching to little boys run back and forth on the path that goes through them
~ the single camellia flower that decided to bloom early on the window right outside where I teach, the rest of the bush is getting ready to burst, but that one early flower is special
~ getting more consistent about going to bed early enough to get almost 8 hours in bed (though not always asleep) by the time my alarm goes off
~ noting how my leftovers from a dinner out, overflowed on the salad plates I normally use- the plate at the restaurant was much larger than I thought
~ being able to function in spite of my headache
~ more blessings than I could ever list

On this Wednesday morning, I continue to be blessed and am grateful for
- a very busy, productive day yesterday - reinforcing Chopra's 7 Spiritual Laws of Success
- packed breakfast and lunch (although I forgot my wallet and phone - but @ least they are @ home!)
- a emoticon circuit workout this morning including counseling by my student trainer to substitute the 3 leg machines for some cardio (we'll have to see if I can walk tomorrow...)
- leftover stir fry for dinner (meals are falling into place!)
- (successfully) participating in my first streaming lecture

Today, I am grateful for:

-Indeed, Bob taking that first step out of darkness!! Yay Bobbers!!!
-Seeing some familiar faces - Ann, great to see you!!
-This second blizzard not completely disabling us; only 6 inches of snow instead of 12+ that we got last week
-Yet another wonderful cardio opportunity as a result - 2 hours, 10 minutes of shoveling!!!
-Being able-bodied enough to do the shoveling, despite my mother telling me THREE TIMES that I would thank her one day if I obeyed her and hired it done (I might be more willing to listen if I'd EVER seen her shovel snow in her life)
-Stretching, not only is it good for you, but it feels good!!
-Only losing cable today (rather than power like many folks), and then only losing it for an hour
-This practice of gratitude and this community specifically

Have a great evening!!

- the glorious beautiful uplifting sunshine this morning (before the 30cm of snow and rain tonight...)
- toasters, electric kettles, travel mugs
- amazing weight training workout last night with a new instructor and feeling the difference form makes
- helpful woman in my class who very kindly pointed out a mistake I was making that might harm my elbows and shoulders during clean/jerk movement
- staying awake long enough last night after I crawled into bed, to start to get into the book I just started
- just feelin' good!

Thankful for...

baking Hamantaschen with the kids (and that even the "big" kids still get a kick out of doing this together each Purim).

my DH who always wants me to be a part of "his" stuff (work events that he can bring me to, races across the country, Masonic events) - love that after all these years, his choice is still togetherness at every opportunity

meal planning (and following through on the actual cooking part of the planning).

Tonight, I am grateful for:

-Making it home safely before the next round of the Blizzard of Oz starting blowing through
-Packing up enough work to keep me busy for a few days!
-Pulling in some firewood from the deck, just in case, because they're talking 40-50 mph winds
-A good visit with an old family friend today, with hopefully another opportunity to visit before the week is out
-Silly, loving, purring kitties
-Our warm and comfortable home that will hopefully continue to provide us good shelter from the storms
-Not having to go to the grocery store as I already stocked up last Friday

Stay warm and safe everybody ...

The last 5 days some of things I have been thankful for are:

*recovering from a wild debauched Birthday of wine, women, and song. It got so wild, I think I stayed up until 11pm- whoah!
*mostly good food choices the last two weeks. I had two instances of comfort eating- biscuits at McDonald’s- but got over it and kept eating good.
*’Galveston’ by Glen Campbell coming up in a Genius Mix on iTunes. Great old memories!
*an amazing group of pictures in a slide set of screensavers from Microsoft. They are of Thailand and are incredible! I found them setting up a login for me on my wives PC- mine is still on life support. I visited it last week, and talked to it, and you know I think it heard me. We may have to pull the plug this week, but there is still hope of recovery.
*getting some invoices off, last week, when I was able to set up in my office chair.
*a great meeting with an IRS agent. Yes I said IRS agent. I am waaaaay behind with taxes since the summer of ’08 when the guano hit the fan, and have been super stressed, fixated on them, since. I recovered enough to deal with some, but have a large number left. She came to the house, and was super helpful, and great to work with. We worked out a long list to, after quite a long discussion, of what she needs and when she needs it. It will take a long time and a lot of accounting to take care of this, but it is a huge relief to have the problem out of the shadows and into the light. I do well with a plan, and a to do list, but this hadn’t gotten so bad, and stressed out, I was frozen, unable to act.

Today I am thankful for:

*getting back to see the Back Dr. quickly after calling, and being able to get in his schedule this week for injections- Cortisone into my bad lower discs- on Wednesday.
*good visit to the Chiropractor. First visit this year, because the PT folks didn’t want me doing it while in PT. Some movement and some relief. Also great to see him. I’ve known him 25+ years, and talk about joints, and what is going on.
*finding a really good group of podcasts of someone I really like, who uses the same Productivity system I do, and the same app I use for working with it. He has a brilliant mind, but is grounded in what works on a practical basis.
*the beautiful Large Cup Narcissus (Daffodil), called ‘Gigantic Star’ that is blooming away in a beautiful grouping. The flowers are about 4” across, and are very strong naturalizers that come back every year.
*finally finding a series on Netflix that I have been hearing of for some time, but didn’t want to buy. It’s a quirky, witty, raunchy animated show called Archer (Family Guy, meets Man from UNCLE). On episode 2, and loving it.
*remembering my Spark notes are on Dropbox, and not on my crashed PC, so I can pick up easier on my other computer.
take care, bob

I am thankful...

- for people connecting with people, that's what it is ALL about
- significant positive changes even if they aren't in the wrapping you were expecting
- leftovers, and yummy ones at that
- enough food in pantry and freezer that I could avoid the dreaded weekend "big grocery shop"
- comfort from the faith that things work out
- dry roads and moderate traffic this morning

Love finishing good books Steph...

On this Sunday morning, I continue to be blessed and am grateful for
- a lazy morning, sipping coffee and sparking
- pups inside and out playing in the snow
- a warmish day allowing the air to moisten - raising the potential for more snow (our last amounted to less than an inch of rain...)
- laundry day and the smell and feel of fresh sheets on the bed
- chili fixings ready to go into the pot

-A Saturday night spent at home, just hanging with the kitties and my partner and enjoying the simple things
-My warm and comfortable bed, the one that's calling me now ...

I am thankful for the ability to run. This time last year I was battling a third year of Plantar Fasciitis.

I am thankful for the sunshine today, and the four short walks I was able to enjoy with the sun on my face.

I am thankful for the chili I made last night, which tasted even better tonight.

And I'm thankful for a quiet evening with a good book.

ok...so it's been hard to muster up the feeling of gratitude lately...

through tears, I'm thankful for words; they help me escape and, if I'm so courageous, to face my fears; books and blogging work wonders
in bloatedness, I'm thankful for my body signaling that it is "full!"; I'll be even more grateful when I start listening to it!!!
despite bitterness, I'm thankful for the support of my parents; they love me in their way, it's not their fault they don't understand me
for grandmothers, mine is weird like me.
for the passage of time, which is apparently neccessary to my God-uncomprehending brain!; hooray for the sweet, sweet Love Affair!!!

Tonight, I have much to be grateful for, including just a few:

-This big, beautiful snow we got/are getting today, 12+ inches with the possibility of more to come - I really DO like snow (and won't mention the other word that I do NOT like, that did NOT happen this time)
-The flexibility and capability to work from home if I need to
-My strong, able body, that was "able" enough to shovel our entire driveway today (OK, I'll admit, it took an hour around lunch, then another hour toward end of day) and it was LOTS of snow, but our driveway is not a small one
-That shoveling is great cardio exercise and I really enjoy it
-Getting my partner's car all cleaned off also as I realized that if we DO get anything that is more wet (not going to say the word), it would be even more difficult to clean with over a foot of snow already piled on the little Kia car
-A wonderful cup of hot chai tea, with almond milk, waiting for me when I came in from shoveling
-Lots of leftovers for dinner tonight, making for easy prep

Hope everybody who's dealing with the snowstorm is doing OK!!

Stephanie

Today I am grateful for:
~ Two days in a row of 2x2x around the park. (And the 1st of 2x done this morning) My knee complains a bit, but hopefully just the right amount of complaining. Going to give it a week to make the adjustment before backing off
~ Two students seeming ready for their university auditions
~ determined to get two cards and payments in the mail today
~ blueberries, plain non-fat yogurt & great grains cereal, my go-to breakfast getting me off to a good start
~ hopefully meeting up with a friend later today
~ many more blessings than I could ever list

On this Thursday, I continue to be blessed and am grateful for

- the snow - it started a couple hours ago and is beautiful + no ice underneath!
- the day off - fire in the fireplace, pups inside, white chili on the stove and baking chocolate chip cookies in the future
- wearing my Vibram five-fingers - doing wonders for my feet
- sleeping in (until 6:30) - swimming tomorrow
- time to spark (and relax)

Thankful for...

so many of today's too many to do's are abundance based (the groceries that still need to be put away means we have food in the house, the bags full of donations on my office floor that need to be processed mean more service to the military families we serve, etc.)

a temporary cease fire on the grey hair (and giving myself permission to take an hour for "me" to get my hair done).

the animals all gathered by Mommy's feet just happy to share the space

Sherrie, what an absolute honor for you to have been the first to wish me Happy Birthday. How did you know??? I am something of a tree hugger, but a hug branch? And Steph the 2nd person, still a great honor. Though next year, I know you’ll wait by the computer to be first.

“Not so token Male” Sandra ? not such a token, or not such a Male.....I do talk fashion, color, emotions, accessorizing, etc., but I am so rugged and butch it must be the token thang....anywho thanks for the good wishes. Kaligirl enjoy the snow??? Savoy1 so glad your son is well and that your answers are “falling into place”, mine seem to be falling on me lately.

Today I am thankful for:

*national Bob day!!! Though, I am bummed that they merged me with Presidents day and everyone didn’t get off work to celebrate me.

*running around town with the Precious. No big event for today, just shopping and eating- wasn’t sure how much I could do, so stayed close to home.

*body parts holding up ok today!

*seeing an old friend from a Health Food Store I used to go to before it closed. This lady was the supplements person, and now works at the place I go. I have known her for 25 years and she is like a walking encyclopedia, and we had a great discussion on joint pain, joint health supplements, and skin conditioning products- the last one was for my wife, I have too much fur on my face to worry about it.

*hearing from family and friends today.

*a call from the Agriculture Dept. about a small amount past due on my Nursery Tax. An odd Thanks you’re thinking.....yes it is. At the end of the call, the guy said he had worked for me in ‘83 when he was in school- and yes he still talked to me. He went over some of the people he worked with, and where he had seen them last, and I updated him on the ones I new, etc. Like old home week.

*figuring out a way to write my Spark posts on the new Mac without getting Office or Pages- Yay Google Docs.

take care, Bob

Expressing how thankful I am -

for Bob's Birthday! Hip Hip Hoooray! and many more...

for all of your posts and how well everyone comes through their ups and downs in a day

for thoughtful caring global minded people who care enough to rant!

that my son did NOT actually make contact with the car he very nearly collided with, whew!

another aha! moment while riding Jones last night, and coach coming again tomorrow

juicy plums plentiful at grocery right now

step by step, little bits at a time, we are getting through all the things that need to be done to get son to Ecuador for 2 months

the way some of the answers to lingering questions are "falling into place"

As Sherrie leads the way, I will join the chorus of Happy Birthdays to our dear Bob, not-so-token male and humorist extrordinaire, not to mention music critic and computer wizard. This Wednesday morning, I give thanks for ....

~ getting up early and alert to prepare for book club coming Thursday

~ before book club comes to my home each month I wish we passed the responsibility around and afterwards thankful I have the wherewithal and means to host it

~ grateful for meeting my targets at work but wishing I wouldn't exceed them by so much. I'm feeling the first hints of burnout and I've only been here seven months.

~ My partner went back to work for half a day yesterday. She came home tired but pleased with her progress.

~ Went to dinner with my former husband last night for perhaps the last time as friends. His new wife moves in this weekend and then all of our relationships will evolve ... the kids will have a stepmother, the new wife won't want her new husband going out for dinner with his former wife, etc.etc.

~ Life is a never-ending work in progress ... all is well.

Shine,
Sandra

Tonight, I am grateful for:

-Sherrie's rant, and indeed, Bob's post, that has me chuckling as well!! Let me be the SECOND from this team to wish our Bob a Happy Birthday!!!
-That I was far enough away to not be directly impacted, although I did hear the explosion and our windows rattled at my office on the 9th Floor, as a gas explosion started a fire and quickly took out an entire building here in Kansas City, impacting an entire block
-Getting through a crazy day at work (thought my crazy first quarter days at work had almost ended, or at least were under control, but got another surprise attack late last week)
-Having a good job to occasionally complain about!!! :-)
-Taking the fact that I now really need to get a new (at least to me) car in the next 1-2 months calmly, for the most part, with the realization that I'm fortunate to have the means to do so
-Huge gratitude that it's not ME who's getting the colonoscopy AND EGD tomorrow (I did that one a few years ago), but I'm just the designated driver
-Our silly, playful, loving kitties
-My warm and comfie home and bed, with lots of warm blankets, to shelter me from the storms

Goodnight all ... and to Bob a Happy Birthday!!

Stephanie

Today I am grateful for:
~ smiling and chuckling out loud as I read Bob's post. Let me be the first of our community to wish you: Happy Birthday Bob! I'm singing you the birthday song and wishing you a wonderful day and an amazing year.
~ all that everyone here shares
~ absolutely glorious sunshine today when I thought it was going to rain all day
~ Finally making it 4 times around the park today! Divided it: 2xs in the am and 2xs in the pm. My knee was complaining a little at the end of the 4th lap but I think it will be fine tomorrow
~ choosing a date for my recital: July 27!
~ many more blessings than I could ever list
namaste,
sherrie

I hope everyone is having a great Bob's Birthday Eve.....to me.....

Today I am thankful for:

*getting Quickbooks Pro set-up on my second PC, and restored to within two weeks. I have to have a back-up in case the other one, can't be resurrected, and this is a real relief, though it took a long time.

*laughingish at the Murphey's Lawishness of the day. I finally got the QB Pro set-up at lunch, and planned to relax, have a healthy lunch, and then catch up on some accounting finally. Right at the end of the meal I heard a big boom and all the power went out. So I had a quiet laugh there in the dark.

*not going fetal and quietly sobbing in the dark- did think of it. I got the ole iPad out, found a window, and worked all afternoon on it. Very pleased with this.

*iPhone and iPad. Watched one of my podcasts live on my iPhone, while working away on the iPad with it's 10 hour battery.

*Twin Peaks and Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me soundtrack. Listened to much of the afternoon.

*the joyies of now putting on my slippers, roasting some chestnuts on the fire, not seeing any creatures stirring, not even my cat (I hope), and reading the ole classic, 'Twas the Night Before Bob's Birthday'. Ahhhhhh, what a holiday treat!

and to all a good night! bob

ps. did I mention tomorrow's my birthday???

On this Tuesday morning, I continue to be blessed and am grateful for
- a emoticon day (amazing how much the weather moderates my moods...)
- a great, albeit slow emoticon this morning
- feeling well enough to participate in a lunch post- emoticon shower
- visiting a small neighborhood market to pick up emoticon for the event and being delighted with the cleanliness and friendliness of staff
- thawing sirloin emoticon in the frig from our Sandhills friends

On this cold, snowy winter night I am thankful for many blessings in my life and yours...

~resolving some computer issues
~workout at the Y
~DH and I adjusting well to life changes
~our three productive, loving adult children who continually amaze us (wish they weren't so far away)
~video computer live conversation with our youngest this weekend
~amazing technology
~the card on my desk which says...

"This is your guardian angel saying that even if things seem a little bit crazy where you are right now, from up here you look pretty good. That tangled mess that's got you worried? It's just a dark cloud and there's a rainbow on the other side."
emoticon emoticon emoticon

Thankfully that mess isn't directly in my life, but concerns the ominous future of this world. For example...our troops overseas for no good reason, the push for a war with Iran, politics run for the benefit of corrupt/greedy big business, the future of the world food supply increasingly being brought under the control of Monsanto via patents on seeds and poisoned by GMOs, continuing loss of privacy and personal freedoms and the erosion of our constitution and the bill of rights, globalization, Republican votes against women's interests most recently voting not to renew the violence against women act, Republican votes against Chuch Hagel for Sec. of Defense. See my blog for more on that.
Sorry for the rant but these issues tend to keep me awake at night. I try to keep the hope of that rainbow in mind.

I am deeply grateful

- D having a large and loving family to gather around he and J right now
- my flat tire incident turning into a little blip instead of a catastrophe due the excellent generous and flexible nature of my best friend
-my mom rebooking her flight to California
- an incredible run this morning...longest distance since holidays...and I finished feeling strong and alive and clear headed
- feeling the tangible benefit of my weight training at gym on my run
- a super ride and coaching session yesterday with my little starlet of a horse who is not always easy, and who can be a little "non-conformist" at times, being very much of a willing partner and showing her true "try" and heart

Today I am thankful for:

*lot of good sleep yesterday during the day.

*great computer tech....sending positive vibes, hope he can get my PC running again. Died Sat. all backed up except 2 wks. of accounting on Quickbooks, so I'm pulling for him. Maha got me on Carbonite when it died a couple of years ago, so overall I'm pretty relaxed, given that this happened. Also a lot on Dropbox, and Wuala- cloud drives, so have good access to data.

*having 2nd PC, Mac Mini to be able to work out some work arounds for data on Main PC.

*being able to get out and run some errands today. Back, Nausea/Vertigo coming along.

*beautiful day, rain coming again tonight.

take care, bob
