Bob, don't leave us again so soon. We like your length! What about the humor? What about our wild time in Tijuana in the 70’s ?

This Sunday morning, I give thanks for ....

~ Took Africa artwork to be framed ... frames were 50% off. Yeah!
~ Staying hopeful all will work out well re: jobs
~ Breakfast with a long-time friend this morning and lunch with new friends.
~ weekend has proven I can't study with distraction of social outings.
~ nothing on the calendar next week, except studying.
~ Gaining insight and equanimity re: painful decision
~ Somewhat cooler temperatures predicted. Anything lower is a relief
~ as always, life lived fully, meaningful possibilities & freedom to choose

Sandra hope they don’t find out about our wild time in Tijuana in the 70’s on your background check! Karen I’m am heading to the barco lounger with my iPad after this- love a networked house too. Glad the post gave you a smile.

Today I am thankful for:

*the fig harvest slowing. Cream of Fig cereal for breakfast- are you kidding??? Now the Egg Fig Yung or was it Fig Foo Yung??? Was good, but didn’t stay with me.

*working with the troops in our garden for an hour this morning- cobbler’s shoes.

*getting out on site today, and back in one piece- ish, I did something I was not supposed to and hurt my lower disc a bit, but it was worth it to “do” something.

*seeing the lovelies jogging along the Blvd. on the way to the job- la rouwww!

*a robo text sent to me I think because my trainer let an app read her contacts- anyway I responded and we checked in. First contact with her since the quano hit the fan, last July. Back soonish to water aerobics???

*one of my tech podcasters mentioning a song on a show yesterday. The little piece he played was called, ‘My Lady Carey’s Dompe’. I looked up his version on Amazon, and it was on an album of Renaissance music- at only $5.99. It is a beautiful album.

*I can see by yesterdays and today's verbosity it’s time to go back to my long winded group, thanks for the transition. Still posting here of course, but I feel better, when my posts fit in- you folks are always great with me going on, and on, and on......................

take care, bob

MAZZYR, don’t deny the pleasure of my posts, read on! Maha, your bike sounds like one I’d like- frequently gives reason to not use- so I am offering a trade. I’ll give you my mountain bike with wonderful accessories- luvvvvvvv accessorizing- for your get out of exercise bike.

Today I am thankful for:

*for the Number 2 train still leaving the station regularly. Woo Hoo!!! Sorry, for the icky poo poo stuff, but I so thankful that with all the joint/pain trouble this Spring, and having to use pain pills, I still- knock on head- haven’t gotten diverticulitis, like the last 5-6….times of this much pain pill usage. I have done well spacing in no use days, to keep all on schedule. The little train that could!

*a great fig harvest! My wife loves her fig I planted for her, and daily has been bringing up a basketful of very large, yummy figs. She has a great recipe for them raw, which is easy and great, but…………… we are now moving into week two and we are starting to have, fig stew, Beef figanoff- soy beef of course, figgy pudding, BLF sandwiches- Bacon, Lettuce, and Fig, figplesauce, …………..Tomorrow we begin giving them to friends. If you hear the door bell ring and see a rotund man hobbling away- Enjoy the figs!!!

*finding another mail reader than Outlook, before I threw the computer out the window. It’s free and so far is working well, except for one goodie received message, which looks like it’s in Chinese???

*planting the herb Agrimony- Agrimonia eupatoria. You might be agrimonius that I am using it, but I think it is a Sage decision, and it’s about Thyme, because it’s the real Dill, Now I can set by the Bay, and sing it’s Laurels! Some may say Lovage or leave it, but I enjoy it for the bad puns that await me!

*hearing the ‘Year of the Cat’ at breakfast. I always have loved Al Stewart’s historical based music journeys from the 70”s on. I am more of an ‘On the Border’ guy, as Cat has some connections with a long lost almost love. He is still alive and some of his later work, particularly the album ‘Between the Wars’ is quite good.

au revoir brevite’, we will always have Paris

take care, bob

Yes Sherrie, brevity is just how I roll!!! I guess it's something I was just born with. Maha I was excited we could give thanks for aborting exercise, until I read the next part- 10 miles- oh well. I am sure I’ll find some other justification for not exercising. Hah!

Today I am thankful for:

*working in the garden again- ok managing in the garden. I showed the guys how to do the different mixes for the urns and how to adjust them by feel.

*an easier day in the depression zone.

*finding some really nice YouTube vids of Yes’s music. Been a fan for nigh on 40 year’n.

*going back and digging into some forgotten apps I bought and then didn’t use. I love looking for and buying apps, and am really trying to cut back and learn how to take full advantage of the ones I bought. Ok not all 600, but use a goodly amount better.

*finding out a path to follow to deal with my two bad discs in my back and my neck, which has gotten progressively worse and I think has a bad disc- #3. I haven’t gotten much from my current Ortho. Drs. and wasn’t sure which way to go. My sister went through something kind of similar and tried everything and had some very helpful info. on how best to proceed.

take care, bob

Sandra - so exciting!
Blessings for your dream job!

On this Thursday morning, I continue to be blessed and am grateful for

- AC in 100 degree heat
- a great visit with my radio-oncologist - delightful young man, who asked to say a prayer prior to beginning my treatment
- my 40 minute walk/run session - getting back into the swing of things
- lunch with my teammate and giving her the 'left-over' postcards from my girlfriends trip
- dinner with my golf friends after they play (not me!)

This Thursday morning, I give thanks for ...

~ as Kathy says, my life is so "perfectly imperfect, or imperfectly perfect. It is all that I need and more"

~ Yesterday, I was tentatively offered a job, pending reference checks, at an outpatient clinic providing therapy for adults and adolescents and their families. And the clinic is just a 20 minute drive from my apartment. It's my dream job. Can't tell you how relieved I am.

~ I have been in serious denial but now I am finally serious about studying for my licensing exam. My goal is to take it no later than July 9 so I can visit family in Wisconsin for a week before I start work. Whew!

~ Cooler temperatures (that means under 100 degrees) yesterday and today before the heat soars to triple digits through the weekend. Taking advantage of the cooler temperatures to swim this afternoon.

~ Weigh in this afternoon to get me back on track after a not-so-good week of eating. No loss/no gain.

~ Thankful for all of you -- Bob's presence whether short or long winded, a second man among us, Kaligirl's celebrating the end of chemo, Sherrie's delight in her music, new and old friends sharing this practice ...

~ as always, life lived fully, meaningful possibilities & freedom to choose.

Shine,
Sandra

Not time to read everyone elses, and just a quick post tonight...more time tomorrow.

Always grateful
* For my life, just as it is, with all its flaws, trials and so on... it is perfectly imperfect, or imperfectly perfect. All that I need and more
And more...
* For another glorious spring like summer day
* For living near Sacramento, where (after freakishly loosing the paperwork) I was able to quickly drive to the Board of Registered Nursing to get license renewed before the deadline next week.
* For husband agreeing to taking folk dancing classes in September
* For making progress on cleaning out the office
* For surprise email from old high school friend with recommendations on museums...

~~~Kathy~~~
Scales lie. Pants don't lie.
Dropped another size!!! Way to go Sandra, you are really doing great with your efforts. Thanks back Maha, I appreciate the opportunity to help.
Today I am thankful for:
*LP- Linkin Park, coming out with another album, which gets back to their roots like in Hybrid Theory, or Meteora, and not the last experimental album. And it was on sale for $4.99- someone pinch me.
*working in the garden this morning, before accounting. Twice in one month! As unheard of as posting two in a mo. on this thread.
*another batch of invoices going out.
*getting into a shorter commenting mode.
*a little easing in my body pain.
yours in brevity, bob
BILLB000 great to see a guy on this site! Love the ladies, but do get a bit gender lonely. Best wishes and thoughts for continued healing Vivian. AT good for you dealing with the difficult problem first today!
Today I am thankful for:
*how well my new time card system is doing. I have to keep on the guys to track all our work, materials, and plants, and often get pooped with that and don’t do my own. I’ve tried handwriting for ever, tried apps, and finally combined them and have done the best with it since ’07. I imported my form into a handwriting app, and I write them out on my iPad, which makes it fun, and makes it real clear, when I haven’t done them. This will really help my invoicing.
*resisting a big craving for a chocolate protein bar in the drugstore.
*a new text to voice app for my RSS feeds , I can listen to while icing- boring.
*my wife making her uber great Pasta Primavera without too much whining on my part.
*getting into a groove with my digital / paperless work flow I’ve been working on for some time.
take care, bob
I appreciate the knowledge and ability to be able to choose gratefulness, as a guiding principle.
I am thankful for finding SP which has put me in touch with all manner of people sharing similiar struggles with striving to be healthier.
Today is a beautiful day in Michigan and in a few minutes I will be on a wooded hiking trail for a
morning walk. It will be a good moment of time to think about gratitude.
MAZZYR, I’m with you on the iPad grat. Sandra, congrats on your knee replacement! I’m sure it’s a great relief and will open back many opportunities. Maha we don’t want to attract the deer- opinion of one tired gardener, replacing plants eaten by your buddies.
Today I am thankful for:
*a concert I went to with Laurie a while back. It was a Madeliene Peyroux, with Nelly McKay as the warm-up. Loved, loved, loved Nelly McKay- quirky, perky, witty. And as much as I hate to admit it- upbeat, there I said it. Madeline was ok, but did mostly her new work, and not the standards, which bummed my wife out. When I told my wife, my foreman,…… how much I liked Nelly, they said, “You liked someone upbeat?” Oy, a guy get’s a bit down all the time, and gets a rep.
*being able to garden at my house two hours yesterday morning. Only 2nd or 3rd time this year. My wife loved it- it was in her herb garden and the veggie pots.
*getting a batch of invoices out!!! Mention this so much, because I have a huge amount of back –log, that I don’t do, because of my self defeating tendencies.
*how much I notice- colors, objects, people, etc., often at the cost of being ridiculed by others- too gay, etc. Saturday we were driving and I noticed the car in front of us was all black with an orange T- university colors, and the construction sign to it’s right had the reverse colors- all orange with Black lettering. I thought it was cool to notice, but my wife laughed and said, “Now that’s beyond gay!”. She of course didn’t laugh this morning, when I checked her wardrobe and accessories out- until I went on a bit far about how well some of the colors worked- loved it!
*finding out that Antony and the Johnsons had released an album in ’10 I missed. Why was I not told??? So, I had new Antony music to listen to this weekend.
take care, bob
Good morning,
Gratefulness abides~~
~ enjoyed the excellent community theater production with Sandra and Robin...for me, "intense" would be an understatement, "due to its frank portrayal of abortion, homosexuality, rape, child abuse and suicide" -- amazingly it was written originally in 1892 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spring_Awakeni
In response to Maha's request....and for all of you to view for a blessing....
Along with revisiting these pics, and shedding tears over the beauty of humanity, and the reminder EVERY person really does have a desire to "do spontaneous good things", I express gratitude
* For a cool day, surprising for this time of year.
* For barley stew, ready to eat
* For getting party list ready for my twin aunts' birthday party coming up
* For both of them, as crazy as they are, surviving as twin premies, each weighing under 2 pounds at birth in 1937 (LA Times at the time dubbed them "The miracle babies" and followed them every year for about 5 years....)
* That the lump found under my mom's arm was not a tumor, but an abcess...easily drained and treatable with antibiotics.
* For my dad's 68 year commitment of love to her...
Good morning! Another day, another dolla...'er, I mean, day. And hot, hot hot it is! We are so spoiled with air conditioning and all the other luxuries of our society....Oh, and Kathy, direct me to the "viewing and sharing" photos...I tried, but wasn't sure, so make it easy on me! Oh yeah, back to gratefulness, this morning~~
* Dinner with my very best friend and my hubby and stayed almost on track (til I shared a dessert)
Today, I am grateful for:
-My first full body strength training workout yesterday since my release after surgery; I was SO relieved that I only had to lower weight on 2 out of 16 exercises (it was not as easy as it was before and I'm a bit sore, but at least I don't feel like I had negative progress from the surgery limitations)
-Self-awareness and the requisite questioning that stems from it
-The start of the local film festival this evening; going with my partner and meeting a friend
-Healthy dinner out before movie at our favorite Mediterranean restaurant, where I'm looking forward to hummus, pita and their incredible lentil soup
-Tomorrow is my Habitat for Humanity build day!!! It's been too long
-Making it through a platelet donation today; for some reason it was more difficult this time and the machine kept beeping, slowing the process down, plus they were short-handed, but perseverance wins out again!
-Trying to right a wrong
Have an excellent evening!
Stephanie
Today I am thankful for:
*sending some invoices out, despite coming up with a number of excellent diversions, many of which are needed and pressing items- not more pressing than invoicing, but darn good temptations- if I do say so myself.
*a guilty pleasure……no not food. I have started watching the Family Guy, after seeing the creator of the show on Real Time a number of times and liking his wit. I must say it’s awfully fun with all the smart ass jokes, sarcasm, sub-references, and dry with- especially of the little guy and dog.
*finding some beautiful Buddhist images and quotes on Pinterest- which I just started trying. My only problem is that I’m not sure what they have to do with DIY???
*fascinating documentary on new information and theories on the formation of earth and the beginnings of life. Couldn’t believe I’d never heard of the general thesis.
*really good eating, since I'm more focused due to sugar troubles. I did well, until the end of the day, when I screwed up a drink- too many fruit sugars.
take care, bob
Late night gratitudes...
* For the solstice. Another marker in our lives. Summer is here....
* For the opportunity to see such great performers in our community. J. Giles and Jeff Pitchell. Blues legends. And our local Mick Martin joining them on stage. Whew. Rockin' HOT!
* For my niece who seeks me out for counsel.
* For my hubby. Who screws something up every day. More often than not. But is still a sweetie.
* For my son, his family...amazing...
* For completing a difficult course for continuing education units. My brain hurts, but it is done!
Good afternoon,
Front-and-center in gratitude~~
~ after almost passing out on my bike this morning, I got to my friend's house...she sat me down, rehydrated me, feed me a gourmet breakfast, and soothed my spirit; I then got back on my bike and rode a total of 18 miles today
~ rode to The Ride and bought a rear light replacement that I've needed for months
~ rode to the university and returned late DVDs, cooling down while there
~ chatted with my best friend in Maui
~ signed petitions for requiring tightening up of campaign finance
Blessed be
Grateful for:
**I had lunch with a friend/former co-worker who we have both been postponing...it was so nice to see her.
**I got a flat tire, but the tow truck came right away, to help me change tires, and I didn't have to wait in the heat...
**Yoga
**Home
**Seeing my cat's sweet face.
**seeing all my ole Sparkfriends, still here, and posting on the Thanksgiving team!!! Look forward to catch up with you 'all
Today I have so much to be grateful for, including:
-Seeing Bob here again today (the only true failure is NOT getting to it again - so there!!!)
-No chigger bites yet this year (Maha, hang in there - I think we're both very sweet and that's what the chiggers love to eat up!!!!)
-Preparing for my nephew to arrive next Tuesday
-A weeklong film festival that starts Thursday and plans to meet friends Thursday/Friday evenings
-Finding my center again
-Being able to reschedule my platelet donation at the community blood center when I walked off and forgot my breakfast (not good to donate with no fuel in your body)
-Learning from the caregiver support group that I'm doing most everything right when it comes to self-care
-All of you here sharing in this wonderful practice
Hi everyone, sorry I have been gone so long. I’ve had a really hard spring, which is still going on.
Today I am thankful for:
*having this site to return to over, and over, and over……
*the Sparks in my life who check on me even when I’m MIA. Latest thanks to PEACEFULONE.
*my body recovering from last weeks fall. It could have been much worse, and I am super grateful more damage wasn’t done. I think this is because of my physical therapy building up my knees, and lower back- yeah PT’s.
*being able to invoice today.
*Mr. Big keeping me company. He’s an especially nice cat, while asleep, or relaxed, before Satan visits him, gets a crazed look, and he starts biting me.
*my iPad 2, although it is rather dated, and there are new ones available after all, not that I covet my brothers iPad3, although he does have great graven images.
*not gorging when my blood sugar fell off the cliff today and last week. I think this is one of the big things that got me gaining weight quickly, when I got Hypoglocemia. It’s been good for a few years, but has crashed really badly twice in the last two weeks.
*not getting any Chocolate bars, oh- I mean Energy / Protein / Health bars, for the past two months. A big problem food for me, with a good denial tie in. Yeah!
take care, bob
The body is a sacred garment.
It's your first and last garment; it is what you enter life in and what you depart life with,
and it should be treated with honor.
As I end my day, I choose to go as I came into this day - filled with gratitude for so much, including:
-A laid back day; just what the doctor ordered
-An excellent massage
-Clean sheets
-Easy, very small and light dinner of mostly leftovers from our meal out last night, including lucious asparagus
-Dinner discussion about what we're doing for meals the rest of the week, commitments, etc.
-My sister sending me her PowerPoint slides from when she facilitates caregiver support classes
-My incredible and amazing partner, who lives with a debilitating disease with so much grace and heart, almost always sporting a great, uplifting attitude
Goodnight all ...
Stephanie
Namaste: "I honor the place in you in which the entire universe dwells. I honor the place in you which is of love, of truth, of light, and of peace. When you are in that place in you, and I am in that place in me, We are One." by Ram Das
This Sunday morning, I give thanks for ...
* taking a life lesson learned and putting it into practice
* my parents' 61st wedding anniversary yesterday
* lucky to have both my parents alive and mostly healthy
* remembering friends whose parents have passed
* beginning the task of cleaning and sorting years of stuff out of our garage
* going to take a load of unneeded stuff to Goodwill tomorrow
* my children's father, a loving example of how to live (see Mahas quote)
* dinner with my son and skyping with my daughter today (repeat)
* my son's good news (the career opportunity he has been working for)
* my daughter's good news (an all-expense-paid trip to Brazil)
* as always, life lived to the fullest, many possibilities and freedom to choose
Shine,
Sandra
My father didn't tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.
-- Clarence Budington Kellan
Good morning,
Gratitude abounds~~
~ although he has been gone from this earth plane for 45 years, my beloved noble father was a beacon of light, standing solid with integrity, creativity, and love
~ making progress on a knotty report
~ a quiet wakefulness
~ filling up the frig with organic summer fruit from a WF shop yesterday
~ two special treats from WF 1) a loaf of my favorite whole grain spelt sour dough bread from Serenity Farms brick oven bakery in northern AR and 2) Tofurky Italian Sausage...and making a breakfast sandwich by toasting the bread, splitting and sauteeing the Tofurky, and adding spicy mustard and spring greens!
Blessed be,
xox
Maha
-Going out for a celebratory dinner because we could do it together
-Getting my hair done today
-Kitten, kitten and kitten - lots of love, play, purring and treats today - does my heart good
-Tomorrow is a day just for me, including a 90-minute massage
Goodnight all ...
This Saturday evening, I give thanks for ...
* knowing when to call it quits and having the courage to be kind but honest
* "tears at night, joy in the morning" is my favorite Psalm. Thanks, Maha
* Nicole's poignant post
* taking my pillow to Africa with me
* spending four hours in the water at the lake today
* being refreshed but tired from sun, wind and water
* anticipation of having dinner with son and skyping with daughter tomorrow
* as always, life lived to the fullest, many possibilities and freedom to choose
Shine,
Sandra
