Thankful for...

the hard worked for habits that now make the exercise and better choices a matter of fact rather than the good idea that I never get around to.

the 12 pounds I've lost thus far and the 50 pounds skinnier my hubby came home (which is motivation enough to work harder. I'll have to feed him when he's back to stay).

Daddy date days we've set up - letting each of the four kids play hookey one day to have the day with Mommy and Daddy. Now if only the next week wouldn't fly before I have to send him back to Afghanistan again....

My continuing passion is to part a curtain, that invisible veil of indifference that falls between us and that blinds us to each other's presence, each other's wonder, each other's human plight.
-- Eudora Welty

Good morning,

I love how we "part a curtain" here~~

~ for BLUEBIRDSFLY's presence here, and Vivian, who suggested she join

~ for reading glasses (yes Ann!)...I'd be sunk wihout them!

~ for another interesting new work experience ahead today

~ for the joy of precious memories (a young Ecuadorian friend is posting photos on FB from my visit last summer)

~ for my early rising

Today I bow my head in gratefulness

for my little, scrawny and somewhat bald Jakey who began to eat again after a harrowing weekend
for Viv who suggested I join this team ( see, I remember)
For Sarina who today became the sister I always wanted
For a day lived where gratefulness was stronger then fear

For all this and so much more I bow my head in gratefulness

Today I am grateful for all that I have been given.
A warm home, beans cookin', no schedule.
For friend who was able to quick fix her computer after she spilled water on the keyboard.
For my health and that of others.
Forsight, hindsight and the ability to know the difference.
Knowing that meditation and prayers both work miracles.

Wow - kind of ashamed of myself as I sit here stumbling to find something I'm grateful for. Not really feeling it this morning. BUT - the heat works in my house, the snow and ice are mostly cleared from the roads, I feel sick but can function, the computer's working... I'm a pretty blessed person. I'll work on the attitude shift.

I have a confession to make. When I lost weight last year, I entered my weights into SP as I lost. When I gained back 14 pounds, I did not enter the weights as I gained. Since December 13, I have lost 15 pounds ... a net loss of ONE pound so today the ticker actually moved down again. I am so excited!

This Monday morning, I am thankful for ...

* the ticker moving downward again
* nutrient-dense cabbage soup with a dear friend last night
* being a small part of the new moon sisters effort to help another among us
* sending out invitations for Maha's 70th birthday party
* a wonderful skype visit with my daughter - the time flew by
* going back to work today after being home sick two days last week
* getting to know a whole new group of clients in the day treatment program
* excited about prospect of learning new skills
* as always, a life worth living, possibilities and freedom to choose

Shine,
Sandra

Tonight, as I end my day before resting, I have so very much to be grateful for, including:

-A short talk with Maha this morning, brightening both of our days
-Doing a pretty decent job of offering additional care and support to my dear friend who is terminal, while at the same time, taking care of myself
-The loving support of my partner (who just totally gets me and has the biggest heart of anybody I know) through it all, giving up time with me to share me with somebody who won't be around for that much longer
-Napping while my friend napped, then sharing a meal together
-My sweet kittens who almost seem to sense tonight that "kitty love" is just what I need while I get 3 or 4 hours of silent alone time just for me (and the kittens, of course)
-A very warm and comfortable bed with a solid roof over my head to top it all off
-Always, my health, that I never want to take for granted as I continue to see friend after friend get struck with some nasty form of cancer (another friend diagnosed this week)
-An excitng incentive program that starts tomorrow at work, focused on exercise and drinking water

Goodnight all ...

Stephanie

the sound of bickering children means they're healthy and verbal and able to advocate for themselves (and I'll keep telling myself that 'til it stops!)

Solitude greeting solitude, that's what community is all about. Community is not the place where we are no longer alone but the place where we respect, protect, and reverently greet one another's aloneness. When we allow our aloneness to lead us into solitude, our solitude will enable us to rejoice in the solitude of others. Our solitude roots us in our own hearts. Instead of making us yearn for company that will offer us immediate satisfaction, solitude makes us claim our center and empowers us to call others to claim theirs. Our various solitudes are like strong, straight pillars that hold up the roof of our communal house. Thus, solitude always strengthens community. ~ Henri Nouwen

This Sunday morning, I am thankful for ...

* our Thanksgiving community and each of you who make it strong
* writing my first SP blog in more than a year
* the many things I take for granted (electricity, clean water, a roof, plumbing)
* a joy-filled reunion with a dear friend last night
* a nutrient dense, healthy meal
* my generous friend Maha who gave up her day to help a friend yesterday
* releasing 14 pounds since December 13, putting me back to 37 lbs lost
* birds singing outside my window remind me how precious life is
* my first cup of coffee reminds me how human I am
* as always, a life worth living, possibilities and freedom to choose

Shine,
Sandra

Tonight, I end my day as I began, by focusing on all that I have to be grateful for, including:

-Excellent Latin American meal tonight in a restaurant full of mainly Latin American families, along with live Brazilian music (some outstanding guitar)
-Really appreciating my partner's honesty, especially when it was a fair amount of money that was in my favor
-A good massage this morning, starting my day/weekend off right
-My home office, its lighting, with my books around me, my rolltop desk; I like the way I've got it set up
-Tastebud Magazine ... I'm such a foodie (in a good way, mostly)
-My overall good health
-My warm and comfortable bed; the one that is calling me right now ...

Goodnight,

Solitude is the garden for our hearts, which yearns for love. It is the place where our aloneness can bear fruit. It is the home for our restless bodies and anxious minds. Solitude, whether it is connected with a physical space or not, is essential for our spiritual lives. It is not an easy place to be, since we are so insecure and fearful that we are easily distracted by whatever promises immediate satisfaction. Solitude is not immediately satisfying, because in solitude we meet our demons, our addictions, our feelings of lust and anger, and our immense need for recognition and approval. But if we do not run away, we will meet there also the One who says, "Do not be afraid. I am with you, and I will guide you through the valley of darkness."
~ Henri Nouwen

This Saturday morning, I give thanks for ....

* glimpses of joy
* releasing more weight
* as always, a life worth living, possibilities and freedom to choose.

Saturday! Ah! And I'm at home for it!

My fern that dried up in my recent absences is perking up again.
Doggie with hurt foot left the homemade bandage I made alone during the long night.
New clothespins and a new clothesline for hanging my laundry.
Whistling boy who stayed home from soccer with me.

Yesterday:

Time with a friend yesterday.
A new yellow shirt and 3 new tees.
Excellent find at the local mall for my middle boy.
Safety on the road.
Good night rest!

Tonight before I go sleep, I love ending my day by focusing on gratitude again, for:

-A totally wonderful evening with two dear friends, sharing a lovely meal we cooked for them
-Our kittens getting a reasonable amount of socialization time with other folks and doing really well
-My massage scheduled for tomorrow, and much-needed after a very stressful week (with thanks to livingsocial.com)
-Realizing that I do take pretty good care of myself consistently, and am grateful to have the means to get a few extras in now and again
-Dinner plans out tomorrow night to celebrate another friend's birthday at a Latin American restaurant (we take our own wine bottle and pay a corkage fee - anybody know how much that is? I think it's quite reasonable)
-All of you ...

Goodnight,
Stephanie

Remember how in Oliver, the kids sang the song, "Food, glorious food..."? Well, tonight I start off my list of gratitudes by singing
* RAIN, GLORIOUS RAIN!
* The joy of my new volunteer position
* A 3 hour lunch with a dear friend, sharing compassion and laughter
* A new $6.99 sweater that really perked up my spirits.
* Family members/dynamics which make me want to scream and send off nasty emails...and exercising enough restraint to not scream and send emails, but instead to ask for their lives to be blessed. Whew. It was close... (Now I have to get off the computer...just in case I succomb to the temptation!)

- a job with great people, meaningful work, and family friendly hours.

- time to volunteer at my older children's school.

Thankful for..

letting go of perfection - with DH now in bed sick for a second day of an already too short period of time here before he has to go back.

the drive that keeps me moving when I want to lock myself in the bathroom and sob (note the "letting go" is a process lol)

the volunteers at HFH carrying an extra load this week so that I can be with my hubby.

Greetings to all! Having not been here for a few days for a. computer freeze b. Spark site maintenance and c. CHOOSING not to go online anywhere yesterday I post these gratitudes tonight
* For RAIN, RAIN, RAIN...And all that it does... and for all that is predicted to fall this week...quelling the wildfires burning in the Sierra (yes, fires on dry land in January...) watering all the trees, shrubs, and lawns...so that we can see green once again. Adding moisture to the air to nurture dry skin (I'm with you there, Vivian!) and nasal passages. To calm down hair by decreasing static electricity...and so on...
* For the sound of rain...And all that IT does...helps one sleep. Reminds one that the cycles continue
* For finishing up a pot of refrigerator soup (Yup...leftover bits and few straggly pieces of celery, brown rice, chard, zucchini, carrots, beans, romaine, Italian parsley, cilantro, and Canadian bacon. Added a can of organic corn, some home grown basil and some pasta shells, and called it minestrone)
* For family - they grind you down, so that you can "shine" one day
* For new friendship in the formative process
* For the long shadows and pink sunset last night

After an extremely long day, I am totally grateful for a light nap this afternoon, chicken and veggies from the crock pot, and a cleansing, refreshing rain gently falling from the sky. I am so happy to feel the humidity.. My skin and my soul thrive on it. For all of my friends, known and unknown, for my family near and far. For a successful surgery for my nephew from Guatemala
in a Tennessee environment..for the fine doctors that are caring for him. For my understanding honey, that supports me in whatever I do.

For all of this and more - every day in every way. I am eternally grateful.

LOVE

Today, I am grateful for so many things, but here are just a few:

-Successfully making the switch from nonfat Greek yogurt with fruit to plain nonfat yogurt and adding my own fresh fruit, thereby HUGELY decreasing my sugar content
-The article, "The Book of Jobs" by Joseph Stiglitz (Nobel winning economist) in the January Vanity Fair (hopefully it can also be found online)
-My health insurance providing excellent online and telephone services to learn about specific health issues and the programs they have to improve (like the stress management one I'm about to start in on)
-My company giving me bonus points for participating in the above-mentioned programs (which is actually how I found out about it).
-New incentive program starting next Monday at work which I KNOW will help get me back on a CONSISTENT exercise track
-How quiet it is at this time of evening at the office, easy time to catch up on some work
