Today, my gratitude is overflowing for so many things, but here are a few:

-A wonderful holiday lunch (my last) with a wonderful group of people I've worked with on a special committee at work
-Excellent and healthy soups during the winter months - comforting and soothing, while packing a big nutritional punch
-A definite and much-needed trend of uninterrupted sleep, likely thanks to my breaking down and taking some estrogen/progestin (after 3 years of fighting HRT, I opted for quality of life)
-My partner thinking she feels a bit better today (I'm still trying to avoid the sore throat/cold-type symptoms she's been having)
-Giving myself a well-deserved TOTAL day off from exercise yesterday (one of those preventive measures I'm trying to keep from getting sick)
-Getting right back into exercise today, continuing my exercise streak (goal is 6 days out of 7)

Have an excellent evening!

Stephanie

Thankful tonight for so many things...
* A letter from my dad which caused me to burst into tears. In all my life, he has never told me how much he appreciates me, or enjoys being around me. Ever. Until now. Unsolicited. And I have it in writing, in case I ever doubt it again.
* The recognition of how blessed I am to be in the midst of a "calm phase" of my life, feeling connected with friends and family...
* The AT&T (local utility) truck, decorated in a strand of colored lights while doing work on a street project this evening.
* All the people who take time to decorate their homes at this time of year...how it causes me to avoid freeways and busy streets, but instead take side streets looking for light alerts on the way home from anywhere
* The letter from my dad...

Today, my gratitude runs deep for so many reasons, but here are a few:

-Warmer temps this week AND a bit of much-needed precipitation
-Finding great sales for meaningful gifts and much-needed basic clothing for our adopted family (with minimal information to go on)
-So far, not being impacted by my partner's sore throat (and preventive measures put into place - crossing fingers and toes)
-A beautiful gift from my dear friend who has terminal cancer; knowing it is her last Christmas, she is taking special joy in sending friends and family members out to shop for other friends and family members and giving gifts she would not normally give!!
-The honor of being one of the people helping her shop for gifts for her family and friends
-In the midst of dying, she is giving a poinsettia and chocolates to every person on the hospice case list that does not have family (she constantly expresses gratitude for the many family and friends in her life who surround her with love through this difficult transition)
-That my partner's best friend/music partner/collaborator for 40+ years has a type of cancer with a high cure rate, though she may never sing again (or the same) after removal of her thyroid (this is a classically trained singer we're talking about)
-My voice, to connect, to share, to comfort and to sing
-Always, always, always - my health and my continued ability to exercise this body, as I see so many around me who are unable to do so due to debilitating diseases
-Being able to find positives in the midst of bad things happening to so many I care about
-This practice, because I'm POSITIVE that is why I can find positives in the midst of negatives

Make it an excellent day!!

Stephanie

Life is so generous a giver. But we, judging its gifts by their covering, cast them away as ugly or heavy or hard. Remove the covering, and you will find beneath it a living splendor, woven of love by wisdom, with power. Welcome it, grasp it, and you touch the angel's hand that brings it to you.

* For being able to experience the heartfelt music of a Korean chorale this evening.
* For the way music provides a thread of connection to other cultures,
* For the gracious and humble people I worked with
* For an afternoon unexpectedly spent with a granddaughter

Good morning,

You wouldn't know the moon is on the wane from the *looks* of it (I know, I know, you deal with the *feel* of it, Kathy!). I'm thankful this morning~~

~ for the light of that beautiful bright orb streaming through my living room window as I type

~ thank you Martin Scorsese, Hugo is my idea of the way films oughta' be made!

Saturday night, and I am SO thankful the moon is on the wane..also grateful

* For a day spent with friends, sharing food, stories and laughter
* For a reality check by my very dearest, long time friend...always puts life back in perspective for me.
* For kick back evening "like old times" at her home...
* For crisp nights, a comfy comfy bed, and a great night's sleep
* That Santo Piano is back to normal...and he, like I, was wide awake for the eclipse this morning (But fortunately it was too cold outside, and the trees were in the way, so I was able to climb back in bed and catch a few more zzzzzz's.
* For all of you, who in this busy season, still take time out each day to maintain the practice of appreciation and gratitude.

Today I'm grateful for...

All that's right in my life and here.
The good health my family and I enjoy.
An early morning walk behind me.
Releasing weight.
Big green olives.
The willingness to plan and monitor what I eat.
The willingness to set boundaries.
Accepting a relationship that is now part of my past.

Friday night, early to bed, and extremely grateful
* My son and his amazing family are holding up with courage and dignity.
* Having the ability to help the (59!) homeless kids at the local high school have some kind of Christmas
* Walmart rising to the occasion once again (I know a lot of people have issue with them, but in our city, the store does amazing stuff...)
* My dad is doing ok after skin cancer removal and nasal reconstruction
* His 90th birthday party plans are coming along smoothly
* My compassionate book club
* Going to bed not only before midnight, but before 9:00 p.m. tonight!

Thursday night gratitudes
* Being blown away by the Moscow Classical Ballet's performance of The Nutcracker tonight
* Realizing that despite having seen the Nutcracker probably 20 times in my life...there is always more to see and to learn about it. The "traditional version" is SO different. So magnificent!
* FINALLY getting our wi-fi "partially" straightened out, after only 2 hours on the phone!
* Laughing with grandkids while watching animated film, "Grandma got run over by a reindeer"
* Cat continues to heal...was actually jumping while in play tonight
* My own foot continues to heal. Had non-Croc shoes on for almost 1/2 hour today!

Tonight, I am grateful for so many things, but here are a few:

-An excellent 50-minute cardio workout at lunch on the elliptical
-Dinner date with my sweetie tonight
-Getting my least favorite project at work completed so it's off my list before week's end (now, on to the better projects!!!!)
-Tomorrow is a short day as we have our department holiday recognition event
-Conversation with vet's office straightening out misunderstanding about what was included in adoption fees for the kitties
-A GREAT workout streak this week and last, in large part due to the healthy incentive program going at work that runs through early January - I'll take all the help I can get!!!

Have an excellent evening!!!

Aren't libraries grand?

On this Thursday morning, I am grateful for
- meeting Dan (campus rec manager) last night, whose encouragement (see you tomorrow?) got me to the gym
- Emily - she did a wonderful job training me on the super circuit and then caring for me as I overdid
- Josh - who came to my rescue with water
- the opportunity to find a 'new' routine and the marvelous support and encouragement of the young people (sophomore, junior and senior)
- the opportunity to send an e-mail to their boss with kudos
- finishing my smoothie and cup of coffee and feeling better (although the muscles are a little sore)

Following Ann again.... :-)

Weds gratitudes-on this sub freezing CA night... (yes, we do have winters here, too!)
* Improvement in Santo Piano's condition...deep abcess (with no external wound evidence or drainage) responding to antibiotics. Fever down and behavior almost back to normal after only 2 doses!
* Library assistant who was so gracious - we now know how to download FREE library books to our NOOKS!
* The fact that we have access to libraries, abundant with books at no charge
* My book club. The laughter, the friendship, the support and care for one another that we share. (Not to mention the good food! Tonight was French night and I made a killer carmelized onion tart!)
* Learning to be ok with my current, weird, sleep cycle...guess it is because it is almost time for the you-know-what.
* The joy in Stephanie's posts...and laughing with my husband about the foot nipping in the night!

DH helped me out with last day of kiddie English classes
Good lunch fixed my me
Mom and Dad made it home safely today
Held myself together after finding a few things Mom and Dad forgot and left behind
Grieving a little, mourning a little, but so happy and thankful for the time spent with them these past weeks...

Bob - Yes, indeedy, I have let my fur grow back. In fact, it's growing by leaps and bounds as we just adopted THREE kittens!!!!

This afternoon, I have so much to be grateful for, including:

-Bob ALWAYS making me laugh (thank you again) - I did not find your post gray; loved it
-Truly, old favorite movies that we can watch time and again, and the comfort they give
-FINALLY remembering to walk out this morning WITH my gym bag (forgotten Mon/Tuesday)
-Taking the next step and actually using the gym bag (at lunch for a great strength training workout) :-)
-The opportunity to swab my cheeks today (at work) and be added to the National Bone Marrow Registry (in memory of my brother) with the Be the Match Foundation
-The latest healthy incentive program provided at work, keeping me on track and active through the holiday season
-Kittens, kittens and more kittens, with the joy, laughter, purring and shenanigans they supply on a multi-daily basis (OK, I'll admit, they're little poop machines at this point, but hey, TONS of fun that make up for that!!!!) - ROFLOL
-That AT's 4-legged is OK!!!!!!!!
-Plenty of socks that I can wear to bed now to avoid more kitten scratches on the feet - we have one that LOVES to get under the covers and if the foot moves, she's ON IT!!!!

Make it an excellent day!!

Stephanie

Steph love the profile px! Seems you have let your fur grow back since I posted last, like I did earlier this year. I did trim my beard really tight recently, I got tired of kids coming up to me and wanting stuff- Old, Semi-Jolly guy, with a big white beard and a belly like a bowl full of jelly- get away kid ya' botha' me!

Today I am thankful for:

* IAM1WEVRY1ís line- Today I bow down in gratitude for: It reminded me today of a very amazing event for me at a retreat once.

*getting a big insurance problem finally fixed. I havenít been able to drive or work since 11/25 and itís really stressed me out. I am so used to taking care of my employees and clients- yes Maha everyone but myself- and to have my hands tied with nothing I can do has been very hard. I am thankful that I have not transferred that stress and gotten angry at the agents screw ups, but was pleasant, though firm- big change.

*Netflix. Very hard few months, and having some old favs. to watch has been very comforting and non-fattening.

*in this vain, really glad I found an old, somewhat sappy show on You tube, that I have been looking for in video for a long time. The series- Snowy River. All the episodes are on it- tre' cool.

*my wife supporting me through every trevail.

*posting, eventhough my thanks are still so grayish dark.
take care, bob

~last night's Paul Simon concert on PBS
~lentil soup simmering on the stove, so very healthy
~my Mom for making lentil soup even when my siblings and I objected (we could eat it or be hungry and we all grew to love it)
~good results from yesterday's medical tests
~modern appliances
