profoundly grateful to realize these monumental shifts:

~one year ago my husband finished chemo as well as a generally brutal year
~today he is thriving as he continues to heal
~several years ago, I was directed to Sparkpeople while deep in the throes of disordered eating
~although still struggling with balance, I no longer sink into periods of deprivation
~encouraged by this consistent practice of sharing our wide range of gratitude, I am not only generally happier but also kinder and gentler with my self

Grateful tonight, as I post from my own computer in my own sweet home
* For sunsets....over the ocean from the land and over the clouds from the sky
* For again, the miracle of flying through the air at incredible speed, and doing it safely
* That our plane did not blow a tire (as others have this past week at the Sacramento airport) and that the people mover to the gates was repaired before we needed it.
* For finding our car in the lot at the airport
* That our kitties greeted us upon return from our trip
* For Trader Joe's salads
* That my own bed is waiting for me...my back SO needs it!
* My own sweet home, shared with my dear hubby, making it our own sweet home...

Today I am grateful for the weather although not what I had hoped for provided me the opportunity for a fresh early morning walk. For hot coffee and healthy breakfast upon my return. Plenty of hot water for shower and fluffy towels and fresh fleece to set the tone of the day. For a pleasant surprise from the postman bringing a gift of love from someone so dear to my heart. For a dinner at leisure and no prep. Knowing I can sleep soundly in a nice warm bed with extra covers.
For all this and more I am truly grateful

Today, I have so much to be grateful for, including:

-Having another grocery store to get organic food, this one very close to my office, so I can even go on my lunch break
-The tides are changing ... I'm finding more and more options available to me for local and organic foods
-A good friend who is very flexible and accepting of how things sometimes get crazy for me and I have to reschedule; she loves me anyway
-The tree trimmers going above and beyond and carried away some big limbs I'd lost in a storm a few months back and had not yet had time to deal with (I've used this gentleman for years, and this is exactly why)
-My incredible partner and how well we work together in this relationship
-The upcoming holiday weekend, as I'm feeling the need for more R&R

Hope everybody is enjoying the season ...

Stephanie

Grateful tonight
* For a few moments online to post here, and to catch up with emails.
* For a great visit with niece and her kids who are here from London
* For the ongoing loving care my brother and family give to my dad
* For being ok after seeing my mom and knowing (REALLY knowing) she no longer recognizes me.
* For safe travels in the air (Our flight was over 2 hours delayed due to de-icing and then a blown tire, and since then two planes have been grounded at the same airport after blowing tires!) and on busy southern CA freeways!
* Party planning for my dad's 90th moving along...

Today, I am grateful for so much, including:

-More good news at work (I'm liking this trend ...)
-Knowing that as one door closes, another door opens
-Being able to successfully give a kitten eye drops twice daily (sometimes no easy feat)
-Learning; I'm never happy unless I'm constantly learning something, just my nature
-A lunch date with a co-worker tomorrow to explore "exercise buddy" options and goals
-The wonderful practice of gratitude, as well as those who share in it - meaning ALL OF YOU!!!
-Knowing that Maha is enjoying her visit to hometown San Francisco

Ciao -

Today, I am grateful for so many things, including, but not limited to:

-Maha and Sherrie getting to meet!!!!! Yay! I know how great that experience is!!
-Most definitely, Kathy recovering QUICKLY from the meat incident
-An abbreviated work week, in more ways than one
-A delightful tea party I attended yesterday with my dear friend, causing me to discover that I FINALLY like PLAIN hot tea (no honey, no milk), something I've been working on for awhile - and three different varieties resulted in the same thing - liked them all, even an Earl Grey
-A wonderful 3-day weekend
-Those adorable kittens, all three of them
-Still working on getting a new computer, which is why I'm not HERE every day (although I do gratitudes daily) - for some reason, it takes forever to load the team messages and I usually time out before it al happens

Hope everybody is enjoying the spirit of the season ...

Christmas 2011...So very grateful
* That despite all of our Christmas traditions being shattered, we found ways to make it special. Very special
* For the joy in the grandkids faces as they opened our gifts tonight
* For shocking the "you know what" out of my son when he opened his...couldn't have been better!
* For my dad's anticipation of our visit tomorrow, and the promise of sunshine and warm temps
* For the fact that I made it through the night last night...after the "incident". Throat still feels swollen and irritated, and deep breaths still hurt...but I am with you all, and my family, and did not die on Christmas eve.
* The beauty of the season continues.

This Christmas morning, I am thankful for ...

* my children and my former husband that we can spend the holidays together as a family
* my son slept here, first time in 8 years
* we sat up and talked until midnight
* kids (who are adults) decided to forego a party with friends in order to spend time with us
* Good food, "right" number of presents (for once I didn't over-indulge) and everyone liked their presents
* Stockings and brunch this morning ... the celebration continues
* Kids going out foor drinks with friends after the Mavs beat Heat (hopeffully)
* As always, a life worth living, possibilities and freedom to choose.

Merry Christmas (or whatever holiday you celebrate), Love you all!

May your light shine brightly,
Sandra

Gratitudes:

1st, that Kathy is still with us. For everyone, another technique to use on yourself if you get something caught in your throat is to PUMP your arms up and down from the shoulders, which essentially recreates the moves of an old fashioned water pump. Also, I'm glad the depression has lifted

2nd, for the power of the internet and this time specifically for facebook. I only joined FB about a year or two ago in order to keep up with my daughter. But eventually, I added friends young and old to my list. This morning I thought about an old bf and wondered if he was there. A search confirmed he was, so I contacted him.

I have no idea whether he'll respond, and it really doesn't matter to me. The fact that I found him and was able to contact him and to wish him happy holidays and a prosperous new year is enough to make me very happy.

Gratitudes this Christmas eve....well, officially Christmas here since it is after midnight
* The depression that has engulfed me the past few days has finally lifted
* Spontaneous phone call to my aunt with dinner invite for her and her hubby. They were thrilled as they were home alone this Christmas eve, without plans for tomorrow as well.
* Able to cough up the piece of meat that lodged in my throat before someone had to do the Heimlich maneuver on me...it was weird. I couldn't breath and couldn't get it dislodged. Rather calm feeling while I was thinking, "Oh, this is how Mama Cass died" and "I really don't want to die on Christmas eve and ruin Christmas for my family...." All is well now, and with the exception of a scratchy throat and residual "feel like I have a lump in my throat" sensation, I am fine...and VERY grateful.
* Seeing some luminarios lining a street on our way home, only to make a u-turn to check them out and found miles of them, lining the streets. AND the most spectacular display of lights this season. (pictures posted on my blog)
* Lemonade

Morning on this Christmas Eve:

Grateful for unexpected net time as my nail appointment got changed to afternoon
Glad to have gone out early and shop for the ingredients for church work's Christmas meal
Glad someone else is doing the cooking for church's party - it aint me!
Glad for some down time before the big rush
Glad for SP
Glad for time with SP pal who lives an hour away for a family Christmas meal yesterday
Super happy I decided to show and exchange in advance a gift for one of my teenage boys allowing him to help choose what he really wanted after I had bought something I figured would be "dumb"
He's happy
I'm happy
Everybody is happy

Might not be back on until after the holiday - Merry Christmas to you all!

"The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, worry about the future, or anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly." The Buddha

This morning of Christmas Eve, I am grateful for all of you. Just so you know, I did not write the Christmas affirmations but borrowed them from an FB post where they were attributed to anonymous. I should also have attributed them yesterday. I posted them b/c they resonated with me. As Sherrie said, they are like something her therapist taught her awhile back. They are what my therapist has been trying to hammer into my head for three years now. (I am a slow learner but, as with many things, easier said than done but worth remembering and thus easily forgettable). On to thanksgivings ...

* Vowing to let go of expectations for this week with immediate and extended family and live in the moment

* My son for giving up Christmas Eve with his family of friends to spend with his family of origin tonight

* A substantive conversation with my daughter yesterday -- the first in a long time

* An incredibly supportive former husband who will always be family

* Anticipation of our family Christmas tonight and tomorrow morning (without expectations but hopes of being surprised by joy -- does that count as living in the moment?)

* Getting my car fixed yesterday in preparation for the drive north ... this was the second garage that has tried to fix it ... at least it was not the third or four garage.

* sticking to my weight loss program yesterday as my daughter ate yummy food at the restaurant where my son is sous chef (and resolve to stick to it through the holidays despite temptations galore)

* releasing 3 more pounds. On an 800 calorie regimen the pounds should come off fairly quickly at the beginning (yes it is medically supervised). Thank you Mazzie for the mental image of releasing weight.

* All of you are lively in my thoughts and prayers.this holiday season

* As always, a life worth living, possibilities and freedom to choose.

Shine,
Sandra

I am so thankful for my brain today. I had the displeasure of arguing with some really ignorant people yesterday, and at the time, I let it get to me. Now, I am realizing that it was just a tricky way for the universe to remind me that I should be greatful for my ability to think and process information. I guess not everyone has that!

A Christmas Affirmation.

I release the pain and sadness that is buried in the layers and layers of my body, and in my heart...( deep breath)

I release the pain that I have carried for so many lifetimes, and so many years... ( deep breath)

I release the belief that I have to be strong all of the time, and the fear that I will hit rock bottom and not be able to find my way out if I let myself feel all of these emotions...( deep breath)

I release my pattern of trying to be everything for everybody, and trying to save everyone, and I now, just for now, focus my attention on me, and saving me....I know i deserve it....(deep breath)

I release my feeling of hopelessness with this world, and the seeming unending strife that is always present. I release my feelings of just wanting to run away and be done with it all...( deep breath)..

I release my anxiety and restlessness over how and what I can do next to help me to make this transition in my life... I trust myself to make the right decisions, and I know I will... ( deep breath)

I release all confusion over all that has transpired... I release my anger over it too, and my anger at God and the universe for having to go through all of this ( deep breath)

I release my belief that I am not strong enough....That I am too weak to keep doing this....(deep breath)

I now release all feelings of self pity and self doubt...and I take back my power that i have given away!!....( deep breath...)

I release my pattern of giving away my power to others, and I now lock it within me, and keep it safe. I know that this is OK to do this, and I will be guided when it is safe to share myself again...( deep breath)

I release my deep despair that this may be all there is..... and that I may never be truly happy here...( deep breath)

I release that ridiculous belief, and I now know that I can...and WILL....Create my own happiness! ( deep breath)

I release all contracts and pacts that I have ever made in this lifetime or in any other lifetime, with myself, or with others, that holds me back in any way. I now command that these contracts and pacts be broken forever, and I move forward into the light...and into my new life...( deep breath)

I release the past, and all that was.....( deep breath)

I am free now....( deep breath).....

And so it is~

May you find the peace and joy that surpasses all understanding this holiday season and throughout the year.

Shine,
Sandra

OK this is weird...I actually followed MAHA last night (being as she is on the West Coast!) and my post is missing...so making up for two days of gratitude

* For stepping back and attempting to "walk in the shoes" of another, which helped me reconcile my hurt feelings
* For climbing out of a depression by taking the sourest of lemons that have been thrown at me, and making lemonade that is sweetening naturally each day
* For Christmas music, lights, and cookies
* For the amazing neighborhood we live in, where I can drop in on anyone and feel welcome
* For the anticipation of the first gathering of my husband's daughter, niece, nephew and respective families tomorrow, in celebration of Christmas
* That my husband's daughter is making the trip, despite the fact she is really struggling in a many areas of her life right now.
* That we live in a smoke free house
* That Maha and Sherri have the opportunity to enjoy each other's company
* For the comfort of replaying the videos from Christmas four years ago with my mom...and the fact that I will get to see her next week.
* That Michele's internet is working once again!

Shower Thy grace upon us in the moment of our greatest need, protect us from ourselves, and allow us to be a beacon of light rather than a dark cloud for the ambience that surrounds us. Today, I am grateful for many things, including:

-Getting sabbatical approval so I can put my deposit down on Chile trip in September 2012;
-My good little kittens who are exploring and learning more each day and bring me great joy and lots of laughter
-So grateful that the little bitty kitty didn't hurt herself as she slid across the hardwood floors chasing a ball, through the railing and over the bannister (thank goodness onto carpeting)
-Finding a shortcut on changing litter boxes
-Work projects coming along quite nicely because it's so quiet with lots of people on vacation and few interruptions
-Hot chai tea on cold winter days/nights
-All of YOU and the joy I get from reading your gratitudes as we share in this amazing practice

Tuesday night gratitudes...
* Fabulous lunch date followed by afternoon visit with another friend really put my life back in perspective
* Climbed out of yesterday's pit
* Sister's phone call alerting me to sale prices on flights - saved over $200!
* Upgrades on upcoming trip confirmed!
* For my perfectly imperfect life, which includes all the things I often take for granted (a clear mind, a working body, a husband, a roof over my head, the food in the fridge...) knowing that at any moment, it or any part of it can become history...

This early Tuesday morning, I find myself in turmoil, lots swirling around in my head, but in the midst of the turmoil, I know in my head that I have much to be thankful for ...

* my adult children are more-or-less self-supporting and more importantly happy with what they do and who they are

* that they don't spend as much time with their mama as I would like is testament to the full lives they have created for themselves (it's a bittersweet gratitude)

* ending a relationship brings growth and insight (whether wanted or unwanted)

* time to renew old interests and explore new interests .... if I can just get motivated ... so far I'm just feeling lost

* Lost 2.5 pounds in first week of medically supervised VLCD -- should be excited but kind of disappointed it wasn't more.

* Thankful for this practice so I can find the good in the midst of turmoil ... and for all of you for understanding some days are easier than others.

Shine,
Sandra

* Venting via emails to Vivian - helped me climb off the old pity pot
* Michele trusting me enough to send me her gratitudes to post until internet issues resolve in her community
* Four batches of cookies made (two to go tomorrow) and then Cookie Walk Tuesday takes place when we distribute them to neighbors
* Sappy Christmas movies on Hallmark channel
* DIL getting (and accepting) support from her godmother...
* Broccoli soup

POSTING FOR MICHELLE (AM.GIRLINBRAZIL) How awesome that she is sending me her gratitudes to post until she can get through on a regular basis!

Paid a bill with no grief, super unusual!
Free gift from my Brazilian Avon lady, she's so nice!
Got a little money in my pocket and hope to spend it tomorrow.
Got gobs of housework done today.
Boys are almost done with homeschool work and start break on Wednesday.
I think I sort of started today!

Tonight, I am hoping that this post will actually post for me because I have so much to share and miss all of you, but I'm every bit as grateful, whether it posts or not!!!!

-Caring and sharing
-Much-needed rain, even though I had to get out and shop in it
-Getting physical holiday shopping completed, especially the out-of-town stuff, except for my sweetie, which will be done leisurely and with great pleasure
-Showing off my kitten claw-clipping skills to my sweetie, all three, one right after another, starting with the littlest, so the others could see it was no big deal - and it wasn't
-A relaxing day of work, since I was able to work at home today, far less interruption

Goodnight all ...

Stephanie

The heart of the giver makes the gift dear and precious.
-- Martin Luther King, Jr.

Good morning,

Though a little sleep-deprived, I nonetheless feel good this morning and thankful~~

~ for organic low-acid dark roast coffee (love the coffee profile: dark toned, dry cherry, dark chocolate, smoke!) with low fat Trader Joe's egg nog

~ baby sugar pumpkin and rainbow chard, along with quinoa to be prepared for lunch today

~ echoing Sandra at the news of a new Little Rock jazz club (tell me more!)

~ plans firmed for a 7am departure Friday to cruise up to Salem for holiday festivities AND (I'm affirming) a visit with Sherrie during the five day visit

~ at Kmart stores across the country anonymous donors are paying off strangers' layaway accounts, especially toys and children's clothes set aside by impoverished parents. www.dailygood.org/more.php?n=4829

Blessed be,

Morning all!

On this Monday I'm counting my blessings and thanks giving for:
- a mild weekend and playtime with the pups
- completion of 'critical' seasonal errands
- drying of too wet transplanted plant soil
- new palm to add color and oxygen
- catching up with SparkFriends

This Monday morning I give thanks for ...

- friends who listen to me think and vent out loud (thank you Maha & Rob)

- laughing at myself for sleeping through the Nutcracker battle between the rats & nutcrackers. It's an annual tradition so no worries. Just embarrassed ....

- confusion that leads to self-awareness

- finding balance between meeting my own needs and the needs of another

- Hoping our children can join us for an evening of jazz at a new jazz cafe (delicious food, great music)

- talking with a long time friend about a trip to Maine to visit but wondering why I'm always the one to travel ... mixed feelings about lack of reciprocity over the years ... healthy question to ask

- another week with my daughter

- as always, a life worth living, possibilities & freedom to choose

Shine,
Sandra

Grateful for all that I have been given including but not limited to beautiful weather in The City with two very special friends. For the food and culture and love shared. (although never enough time to do all we want to do)... It was a joyous spot in the holiday season - to always be remembered.

For a restful sleep to replenish my body and another day to do with as I can.

Amor saca amor.
-- Saint Teresa of Avila

The saints and mystics are the world’s greatest authorities on love. When Saint Teresa says, “Love begets love,” she is giving us the precious secret. One of the most beautiful things about love is that even today it cannot be purchased. It cannot be stolen; it cannot be ransomed; it cannot be cajoled; it cannot be seduced. Amor saca amor: only genuine love begets love.

Today, I am very grateful for many things, but here are a choice few:

-A very nice holiday party this afternoon at work
-My great life balance and prioritization - I went to the party for one hour (it was from 3-5 p.m.), then downstairs to work out for one hour
-Strength training went really well, despite a glass of wine and 6 jumbo shrimp and a few other small goodies (I was afraid it would make me ill to work out so quickly)
-Good news this week, followed by
-GREAT news this week
-Dinner this evening with old friends
-A wonderful 20-minute chair massage to prime me for the real thing on Sunday

Make it an excellent evening!

Today, I have so very much to be grateful for, but I'll try to not go on and on

-Being totally shocked (again) at my company, one that really cares about its employees; such a breath of fresh air from the typical corporate environment
-The joy I feel both giving and receiving
-Opportunities abound
-Work being a calmer place during the holidays, if for no reason other than lots of people take time off so you're not constantly interrupted and can get some real work done
-The incentive program currently going that is keeping my VERY consistent with exercise ... rollin', rollin', rollin' ...
-Trader Joe's - they are new to our area and have quickly become my "go to" store for so many things due to great/fair prices, no preservatives, no GMO products and simple quality - plus, we have the 3rd largest TJ's in the country!!!! Woooo Hoooo!

Have an excellent evening!!!

Hello out there!

I'm happy to have full internet capabilities again here in my home, net was off all week!
Happy my parents arrived safely in the States after their month with us here in Brazil.
Happy for some time to get caught up with all things net related cuz dh is gone for a few days.
Happy for happy dogs, happy boys, and chirping birds outside!
Happy for recent rain in our semi-arid super hot spot on the planet Earth. Last week we had temps in the 100's, today it's not even 80 after 3 nights of rain.

It's your first and last garment; it is what you enter life in and what you depart life with,
and it should be treated with honor.

Tuesday gratitudes
* Sleeping in after being unusually awakened several times last night.
* Lunch with a friend and running into several old coworkers. Joyous reunions!
* Getting application approved and training done for new volunteer opportunity
* OVATION presenting several versions of the Nutcracker on television....tonight it was the Royal Ballet Company (Great Brittan) and hubby watched it with me!
* Red sweaters
* Warm insides (physically and spiritually)
