Exceedingly grateful on this last day of October
* For my husband's diagnostic test showing normal results
* For the abundance of Halal stores springing up in our area, with great prices on organic produce and other "clean" items
* Seeing the joy in childrens' faces as they shout "Trick or Treat!"
* Small town Americana Halloween with the grandkids tonight
* My DIL's courage
* Our new Moroccan carpet arriving today and looking lovely in our home
* Neighborhood gatherings
* Comfy bed
* My perfectly imperfect perfect life.

-I do practice safe-computing (thx Bob for asking!). I would love to understand this stuff better so I can prevent the probs from occuring so often! The last trojans slipped through before the antivirus program recognized them! I think too that the other probs are caused by programs that are not compatible cuz I seem to have the troubles after updates.

Jet lagged, but grateful
* For remembering the Whole Foods grand opening (only a couple of miles from our house) was while we were gone, so we were able to explore brand new store without the mobs that were there a few days earlier
* For organic veggies from Whole Foods and today's farmer's market
* That I live in California...really...that I live where I do, when I do.
* For running into a favorite old coworker at a bookstore today
* For the long talk with my son today...incredibly honest and touching....reminding me of how blessed I am to have mothered him.
* For red and gold leaves against warm blue skies

Our first day back in CA after an amazing trip through Spain, Portugal and Morocco....and filled with gratitude!

To name only a few (hold me back, will someone???)

* Safe travels...in planes, trains, and automobiles, as well as busses, taxis, vans, street cars and even camelback. Over oceans and rivers, through cities and mountains, down narrow cobbled streets and through noisey casbahs, in castles and cathedrals, following the footsteps of the millions....
* Meeting new lifetime friends on this journey
* Being SO glad I live where I do!
* Clean sheets upon arrival home.
* My husband celebrating his birthday yesterday and "milking it" for an extra 9 hours as we crossed various time zones!

Sorry for missing a couple of days. I have been coming off the job sites late, and going straight to icing down, and haven’t felt up to posting. I think Bobitis is catching. I come back to post, and the very next post is Peacefulone leaving.???? Coincidence??? I don’t think so. Let’s see it’s all about Bob, so it must be a virus that the next poster caught. Yeah that makes since in Bobland. Seriously, I will miss you!!!, but certainly understand.

Steph, luvvvv the doo!!! How about rolling that exercise roll, right over the big guy. Kinch: Girlfriend, I can’t join you in being thankful for old boyfriends, but love the quote from the Buddha!!! Kali- great you finished the mid-terms and gained some wisdom. I need to do some learning on Islam, I somehow missed it in my Religious studies classes in college. One of my fav. classes was a special Summer session with a visiting lecturer from Yale, on the early church- 1st 300 years- fascinating!

Today and over the last couple of days, I am thankful for:

***belated “Thankful for:” a great group to comeback to and re-boot a thankful heart.

*a very interesting show on the War of 1812 the other night, that I watched with Muffin, Squash Blossom the other night- aka. wife. I knew very little of this war, except a vague idea of when it was fought, and was amazed and pleased with how much I learned. I also love watching it with my wife as we discuss it- usually when I pause the video, apologize for said pause, and then bring up a point for us to talk about.

*a really great perspective in this weeks “Enlightened”, the new HBO series. They presented a great juxtaposition of perspective as the main character sees how bad a life she has compared to others / depressive view of her life, and then at the end of the show turns it around and sees what a great life she has compared to others / very positive view. I think what got me, is that I really identified with her as she lay in her bed at night thinking all these negative thoughts. Then when they turned it around at the end, it was hard not to go with her to positive-ville. Curse you HBO, for making me feel better!!!! Ha!

*a rainy day to let my wupppppppped body recover. I have been on site all week with the new, young whippersnappers we hired last week. A lot of training, and demonstrating and pain. Ice, ice baby!!! Yo, yo from the white hood! My poor aching back- both bad discs are killing me, foot, knee, kneck, etc. Though sore, I am really pleased with our choices, and with ice and pain meds. I’ll get back in the groove for Fall Projects.

*the crew at TWIT TV for all the great tech content. I really enjoy many of their podcasts!

*inspiration from the Biggest Looser to start back with my weight loss after a long camp out in the Depression Forest. I haven't watched it for a while for various reasons, but have caught a few and it's helping. take care, bob

Chicken Soup in the pot with plenty of garlic and onion.

Natural remedies to keep my friends and loved ones well. . and for doctors for those that need them.

Couldn't resist (from Harold and Maude) --

"I knew a man once who used to like working with cars. A German, wonderful person, but he would spend all his time fixing his car and making it run beautifully. Then came the war, and he lost his car. He had to walk everywhere, and so he found himself spending his time making his body fit and trim. He fixed it up, and it ran beautifully. After the war, he decided not to go back to cars. 'Cars come and go,' he said, 'but your body is your transportation for life.'"

Harold looked over at Maude. "Are you trying to tell me something?" he asked.

Maude smiled. "I just did," she said.

Glad you're back Maha and checking up on us!

On this Thursday morning, I am grateful for:
- the sun shining on the ever changing leaves
- the smell of fireplaces mixed with mowed grass
- the shortening days to remind me of the preciousness of life
- completion of my mid-term exam and the accompanying knowledge of the scriptures of Judaism, Christianity and Islam
- a good nights sleep, short but deep...

Perhaps home is not a place but simply an irrevocable condition.

Good morning!

I gChatted with Sandra this morning. She is really missing us here! Her computer is 8 yrs. old with serious Java problems, among others. She's heading to Best Buy this weekend to buy a new computer, rather than try to remedy the sh1tload of problems of her current one, so we may see her again before the weekend's over!

Me -- after noting gratitudes in my journal yesterday, I'm back and really thankful~~

~ for clear skies expected Saturday, when another friend and I are gathering with Sandra and her partner for bicycling fun and a birthday lunch

~ for a day of study and class, all low stress

~ nature's dramatic light-and-sound show last night

~ the James Baldwin quote about "home" touching my soul

~ rain quenching the thirst of the dry land

~ the amazing networks of mind-blowing, unstoppable energy displayed throughout SparkPeople's population

Blessed be!

Gratitudes:

that I read Bob's post, and that he's back!

that I made it to work this morning, there seemed to be quite a few accidents and perhaps a few people who didn't make it

for Maria, our office housekeeping staffer, who helps me practice my Spanish every day she's here

that the DD has been staying a lot of Thurs. evenings with one of her GFs - thus giving mommy and daddy more mommy/daddy time {if ya know what I mean}

for a woman named HENRIETTA LACKS, whose cells are still important to science and whose son I am going to see today -- I URGE you to read about her, then you will know why I'm excited to meet her son.

-An excellent cardio tennis workout tonight, high-intensity

-Definite exercise roll going on, and I'm loving it
-Wonderful, generous friends

Goodnight all ...

Waving to Bob! So nice to see you here and everyone else! I do believe this is the grandest team of kind-hearted souls. And I am sad to be leaving for a while. Our internet service has been off for the last two evenings and most of today. Not sure when they will get it fixed as they deny there is a problem. Since outages are happening at my neighbor's house at the same times I know it is their problem. We are looking into alternative internet sources and may be off for a while.

This evening I am very thankful to have gotten to know all of you and for many blessings in my life...

~today's 73 degree weather and time outdoors
~a delicious recipe for homemade mincemeat using green tomatoes, apples, oranges, raisins, brown sugar and spices-made enough for three pies this winter
~family and friends

~marigolds and roses still blooming though a cold front is coming tomorrow

Have a wonderful, wonder filled week everyone!

I am pretty sure the old, Happy July ruse wouldn’t work again. How about I was abducted by aliens for 3 months??? How about a Bobby Ewing thang! You have all just been dreaming that I was gone for 3 months, and yes I am alive! There I was walking in the woods, when I saw a bear attacking 2 children. I jumped in saving the children, but was mawled by the bear and have been recovering with a mountain family, and just hiked back………..amnesia, yeah, I fell down and couldn’t remember where the site was……….I could go on, but

Today and over the last 3 months I am thankful for:

*getting in my scathing criticism in mid-July, about people who disappear from the site, before I disappeared from the site, in mid-July. Whew!! Just made it.
*my Spark buddies who have checked in with me, while I was moving my office and in the time sense, while I have been in recovery.
*iOS5 for making my ilife worth living!
*my foreman, and other employees who helped me move, and have helped me settle in at the house, while we try to find another office.
*my happy cat! He has been a good buddy, while I tried to get comfortable, working out of the house. He also is the only “one” who is really happy I had to move my office into the house- more petting, more snacks, and a doorman to open the door to go out and in, out and in, out and in, out and in,…….

take care, I hope and plan to back soon! The Prodigal Gardener, bob

Greetings, Stephanie, Judi and all --

This morning I am grateful for....

* to have discovered that there is such a force in the universe as syntropy, which is the opposite of entropy. Turned my world upside town!
* the opportunity to participate in a workshop on vibrational healing.
* neighbors and friends and vegetables and salt...all going to make kimchi!
* my students who are enthusiastic and interested in their studies
* my warm and cozy kitty!

Peace.

I sit here at the end of my day, rubbing and scratching my son's puppy (we are puppy sitting while he went to the city). So thankful for puppies, and the joy they bring.

Grateful for the meeting I have started leading, and the blessings they bring into my life.

Thankful for my slow cooker, and the nourishment it can provide on a busy fall day.

Loved that I got my windows washed yesterday outside. Every room I walked in to felt so good as I looked out the clean glass.

As I'm catching up on all your postings, I can't help but ask myself, "holy cow, where did I let a month go?". I knew I'd been lost but hadn't realized it had been for so long.

Thankful:
- that you were all still here when I returned.
- that I was blessed to celebrate 3 children's birthdays in about a month
- that there are no more children's birthdays til February (LOL - no really)
- my hubby sounding like a kid on Christmas morning when he called to tell me he received the Halloween package I sent him in Afghanistan. I'm sitting here smiling just to type that sentence.
- reintroducing myself to my elliptical (BABY STEPS AGAIN!).
-that it's okay that I haven't had it all together.

I am thankful for the many opportunities that pass my way - and thankful that I am confident enough to reach out a grab a few every now and again.

I am thankful that my Mom's surgeon was skilled enough to find and repair twice the damage they thought they would find, and that she is recovering well and sounds stronger each day.

I am thankful to enjoy another beautiful pink cloud sunrise (gosh they're pretty).

Today I am thankful for

-my ability to see, hear, taste, think, breathe, smell and walk on my own.
-the messages God sends me daily that remind me to be thankful for these things
-the freedom to make healthier choices in my life
-the inspiration from other sparkpeople that struggle like I do and still have the courage to move forward with their goals
-the knowledge that I am the only one that can make a change in my life
-the strong belief that everything that happens in my life happens for a reason, and that it's not some kind of a punishment I have been given
-finally realizing that my sons disability is not about me , there is a purpose for it in HIS life.
-accepting that there are many things I cannot change and that giving my peace and sanity to the negative is self-destruction
-shifting my energy to the things in my life that I can change and that its success depends on ME.
-I am thankful for my family and all that they have to offer me and the world
-I am thankful for this community, it is a blessing for many people.
Thank you God...

Here's to stopping as we pass through...

On this unseasonably warm Monday morning, I am grateful:

- we finished a major batch of yardwork as the leaves continue to fall
- a wonderful concoction for dinner of fresh veggies and sausage
- a silver, sliver of a moon this morning
- a new day and week to 'get it right'
- a UW networking event this evening - so glad to see the young women become community leaders

It is the mind that makes one wise or ignorant, bound or emancipated.
-- Sri Ramakrishna via Thought for the Day

Good morning,

Passing through, but stopping long enough to give thanks for~~

~ the amazing words of Ramakrishna and Easwaran that speak to the importance of digging channels in the mind for positive mental habits, without which we'll never meet any of our goals

~ a gathering of friends at SparkFriend GenkiWarrior's place, followed by...

~ an afternoon potluck at the new local yoga center

~ the inspiring and extraordinary blog of SFriend On2Victory, a very special person

~ strength training today to continue the streak

Blessed be,
xox
Maha

Thought for the Day Commentary:
Mental habits are like ditches in the mind. They have to be dug laboriously. But they can also be filled in and new channels can be dug. Take resentment for example. It does not burst full-blown into the mind; it grows. At first you simply expect people to behave towards you in a particular way. If they behave in their own way instead, you get surprised, then irritated. You are digging a little channel in consciousness.

In the early stages, this channel may be only an inch or so deep. Thought may flow down it, but it may also flow somewhere else. Also, the walls are still soft and crumbly; they may cave in and fill the channel a little – for example, when someone you dislike says something kind. There is an element of choice. But every time we respond to a situation with resentment, the channel gets a little deeper. Finally there is a huge Grand Canal in the mind. Then anything at all is enough to provoke a conditioned resentful response. Consciousness pours down the sluice of least resistance.

We can dig new mental channels – kind ways of thinking instead of resentful ones, patience instead of anger. Every time you try to return good will for ill will, love for hatred, you have dug your new, beneficial channel a little deeper. Transforming character, conduct, and consciousness is not a moral problem. It’s an engineering problem.

Gratitudes:

for a beautiful day for my jewelry show

that my family helped me get the house prepped for my guests

that I found a new "theme song" ("I'm 74 years Young" by Buddy Guy. I, myself, am not even 60, BUT this guy proves in this song that being young is truly a state of mind, and I need to follow his example)

that my woman cave is 1 wall closer to being done

for so many friends

Tonight I'm thankful for this team, that is always on my mind, even when I'm not making my presence known.

I am thankful for my work, and the people I work with, and the special day we shared together.

I am thankful for the opportunity to have parented my two special boys, and for how they have turned out as adults.

I am thankful for warm afghans, crocheted by loving hands - even if those hands can no longer reach out and hug me.

Tonight, my gratitude runs deep, and here are just a few reasons why:

-My SIXTH Sparkversary yesterday. I almost let it get completely by me, like I did on the fifth.
-Maha and Ann commenting on my new profile picture, and Maha crackin' me up about it ...
-An easier day at work today with some time to breathe finally
-Tomorrow afternoon will be a department outing, so some play time, which will be fun and I'm looking forward to it, especially since it means I can do something active, not JUST sitting around eating/talking
-A great week with exercise as I did full body strength training at lunch today and a small 20-minute walk this afternoon
-Good e-mail exchanges with my mother
-My warm and very comfortable bed, calling me now ...

Goodnight all ...
