Tonight, I end my day in gratitude for:

-Maha and Bob's well wishes on an amazing anniversary we're celebrating tomorrow (never found anybody else that would put up with me for 10 years!!!) :-O
-A very wonderful evening spent with my dear friend, Pat, having dinner, running a few short errands, cleaning out her fridge for her, and just talking, the two of us
-An incredible presentation last night by Mr. Greg Mortensen, co-founder of the Central Asia Institute, including Maha's favorite: "Educate a boy and you've taught an individual; educate a girl and you've taught a village." - This guy is amazing ...
-Having been able to keep the secret that I'm taking off work tomorrow - the day will be ours with the only question being, "What will we make of it?"
-My favorite garlic and spinach pizza tonight an a great little salad to go with

Goodnight all ...

Stephanie

Steph, Happy Anniversary Eve to you, Happy Anniversary Eve to You…….I keep trying to remember what tomorrow is besides your anniversary, and I feel quite the fool that I can’t. I just have the feeling there is something I am forgetting! Something I’d enjoy, but I would probably end up just making a fool of myself. Yo, Yo, Yo, Maha thanks for the shout out dog! Love the poem, yesterday!!! Sandra, watch out those fermented grapes!

*my fricken’ stomach virus having passed. Can't believe I got sick! I am looking for locusts, or frogs from God, who evidently doesn’t think the whole Buddhist thing is funny. I was kidding! Kidding I say! Can't you take a joke big guy?
*having a great crack dealer! Yes I have seen a wonderful chiropractor for 25 years- does this make me a crack ho?
*having the boss call just because she missed my voice. That’s more like me, so I am thankful she did it this time.
*figuring out a resolution to a quandry and a path forward on another thread.
*the Michele McLaughlin Pandora channel. Very soothing tunes to work by, when you are recovering from crack. Coming down can be a real female dog! You know that kind of achy, woosy, feeling when the old neckeru had a few good pops.

take care, lessha

The moment a woman comes home to herself, the moment she knows that she has become a person of influence, an artist of her life, a sculptor of her universe, a person with rights and responsibilities who is respected and recognized, the resurrection of the world begins.

Sometimes the mountain

I am hidden from the mountain

Tonight, my gratitudes include:

-My amazing partner, who offered to cook us a healthy dinner tonight so that I could get a 50-minute workout in (just not happening this week at work, so night time is it for me)
-Looking forward to a 3-day weekend and VERY grateful that I can squeeze another day off into this busy time at work, timing just worked out where I have a break on Friday in work deadlines
-The workout tonight that did NOT do anything for my stress level telling me that I need to figure out a way to slow down (hmmmm ... 3-day weekend coming up)
-My warm and very comfortable bed, coming soon to a theater near me
-Always, always, always - my health and the many options I have to exercise this body, as I see so many around me who are unable to do so due to debilitating diseases

Goodnight all ...

Thought for the Day Commentary:

While we were living on the Blue Mountain in India, we noticed that our local bank had a very neighborly arrangement for collecting funds from the villagers. Poor villagers have very little to save, only a few copper pennies at most. To encourage them to deposit even these few pennies every day, the bank employed a boy with a bicycle to go into the village to their homes, collect their few coppers, and enter the total in their account.

In meditation it is the same: when the Self comes, we can say, "We are no great saint, but a few times today we have tried to be patient. A few times today we have tried to put our family first. A few times today we have resisted some little craving for personal satisfaction." This is how most of us are going to make progress for a long time: a few pennies here, a few pennies there, collected every day. But in these innumerable little acts of selflessness lies spiritual growth, which over a long period can transform every one of us into a loving person. To quote the bank advertisement, "It all adds up."

HEALTHY REFLECTIONS Commentary:

Never giving up

Do you ever get frustrated because things are moving too slowly in your life? Many people don't realize that building a foundation for success does not happen overnight. It is a slow process in which you are constantly working and learning. After all, that foundation must remain strong, even in times of failure or crisis. This takes time! You may have to remind yourself that "failing" is only failure if you quit; otherwise it's a learning opportunity. So don't worry if your life seems to be moving in slow motion. Concentrate on building a solid foundation and learning from your back steps

Strength does not come from physical capacity.

What an honor to follow such a wonderful person!!! Lessbigbob, you are amazing!!!
Ok, I forgot a guano load, and thought to save them for tomorrow, but what the hay!

Todayish I am thankful for:

*finding a way to state my out of sinkish daily post.
*HD on Netflix- woo hoo!
*wet Saturday, so no crews- my joints had been so bad this week I needed to chill.
*my beloved wife not hitting me upside the head as she should have for being so cranky Saturday. She inadvertently injured my lower back, which I think is why Mr. Cranky got out. It hurt, but wasn’t acute, but I think subconsciously I let down my cranky guard because she had a part in it, which was wrong. I had so much other pain, I just couldn’t take more. Usually she doesn’t know when I am depressed or in a pain, unless I need to tell her something about it.
*cleaning out old groups, and finding out why I joined others- when I went to the site to hit the kill button, and I saw some great topics. I also am glad about finding one new one for my back.
*re-focusing my friend feed to an amount I can actually communicate with, and re-thinking who I need to focus with at the present time for my health. I feel I have done well not “collecting buddies”, although the ole male ego wouldn’t mind looking like someone with a lot of buddies!

Chow ladies! Rober’

ps. yes I know my days are frickin' switched- unless you read from the top down, ie. in reverse posting time orientation, but that somehow seems quite correct to me.

Todayish I am thankful for:

*the incredible, joyous songs of the birds in the morning. The only part of daylight savings time I like.

*Happy 99th birthday to the DC Cherry Blossom Tree festival, Happy birthday…… The Cherry trees were actually re-planted 99 years ago yesterday after disease killed the first ones, and the festival begun. Viva la Haaaaacku!

*to Patty Hill Smith, and her sister, who wrote a song, very similar to most all of my Holiday songs- Happy Birthday!

*CBS Sunday Morning- one of my only repeat Thanks along with the birds., due to all the good info., and good news, not just who killed whom, and who invaded whom……

*Elizabeth Taylor. As a child I loved Cleopatra for its pagentry, later my taste went more to Giant, and The Sandpipers. But I think I most remember her support of the Gay community, and of a troubled Michael Jackson. Thank you, and rest in peace.

*Finding Jeeves & Wooster, and Rich Man, Poor Man, in a ½ price sale Amazon had. Hi, I’m Bob and I’m an Amazonholic. The precious dearly loves the books and TV production of Jeeves, and I am the Rich Man fan, since I watched it in ’76. What a great chick mini-series for such a butch guy!

Have a great week all! take care, bob

The creation is not a study, a roughed-in sketch; it is supremely, meticulously created....Even on the perfectly ordinary and clearly visible level, creation carries on with an intricacy unfathomable and apparently uncalled for.
-- Annie Dillard, Pilgrim at Tinker's Creek

Good morning! So happy to be among you all as I sit in the Tall Pines Inn, the last morning in this idyllic environment where I rendezvoused with friends and experienced great joy~~

~ the joy of sharing the treading lightly on Gaia with Stephanie and Beth, via one hour of lights out for Earth Hour
www.earthhour.org/Homepage.aspx

~ after yesterday's fabulous hike in nature, Dillard's statement resonates with me even more deeply

~ brunch today with my dear friends, when I will also celebrate their TENTH anniversary together (they don't know this)...it's tin, which my card (with the Tin Man) acknowledges, though my gift doesn't (unless they select a frame with tin or aluminum in it)

~ I'm so excited about my gift, because I *think* I introduced Mary Oliver to them (hint of what it is) and I love the organization it comes from (though they're temporarily out, I'm sure I can order it again for myself presently)

~ the serendipity of Carmen (new friend, owner of the Inn where we're lodged) joining us for brunch (I asked Steph and Beth if they minded, they said no; 45 min. later Carmen joined and said, "Since I haven't seen you and met your friends I wonder if I could possibly join you for brunch tomorrow?") WOW!

~ the joy of new friendships unfolding (I attended two retreats at the Benedictine Monastery with Carmen, the source of our knowing one another and me knowing about Tall Pines Inn)...and YESTERDAY was her birthday...something else worth celebrating!

Blessed be!

Going to go check out the well thing! I live in a semi-arid part of NE Brazil where many still have no consistent and clean water supply.

Thankful for running water in my house and pure water to drink.
Thankful for a long but well worked week.
Thankful for my three great boys.
Thankful for chat time with my far away mother tonight.
Thankful for my new ESL student friends.
Glad to seeing a friend this week!

Oh boy, I get to follow a poem on silence- oy. I do love the poem, Maha, it’s just the verbose one following silence. Peaceful One deep thanks to you for your link to the charity that provides wells!!! Also kudos to Trace for bringing up Water week!

Today I am thankful for:
*a nice training day today, at a church courtyard- we take care all the grounds but the focus is on this courtyard which has an amazing labyrinth in it. I had the two best pruners, and taught them things they didn’t know how to do. I prune like I am sculpting, and though they aren’t in that zone, they are progressing really well.
*a financial meeting that went really well. I’d say this is the first one since ’08! I met with the financial director of the church, and she is so nice and really supportive. After all my apologies and explantations of why I was sooooooo over budget last year, she didn’t bat an eye, and said she understood everything and was going to cover all I thought was extra, and up the budget. This was such a relief. Since ’08, everyone looks at me like they are ill whenever the $ comes up.
*my occasional, non-sleep doctor approved Ambien prescription being ready, and daddy gets to sleep in tomorrow!!! I have lost about 9hrs. of sleep this week, and I’m dragging.
*getting the first, evil old invoices sent. They all are years old, and are a huge block to me, and I really had to push myself to finish it, and send it.
*pain meds and ice. My joints have taken a beating this first full week out.
*the beautiful flowers coming up all over my yard.

take care, and have a great weekend.

ps. I am super thankful that I did not get struck by lightening when I was at the church today. My language can be "colorful" at times, and some of my adjectives aren't shall we say chuch approved, sooooooo I am glad I didn't get smitten!

Prayer

It doesn't have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones; just
pay attention, then patch

a few words together and don't try
to make them elaborate, this isn't
a contest but the doorway

into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak.

-- Mary Oliver

Good morning! WHEEEEEEEEE! Readying for departure for a magical weekend~~

~ rendezvousing with dear friends Stephanie and Beth in quirky Eureka Springs -- YAY!

~ Carmen, my friend and the owner of Tall Pines Inn, is giving us the key to the employee room

~ the wonderful link Elaine shared on well-digging (such endless need all over the world!

~ I can't get too much of Mary Oliver (and of the above Prayer!)

~ food that nourishes, heals, and makes me happy!

Blessed be!

~water-It's United Nations celebrate WATER week (thanks Trace for the reminder)

Check out one of my favorite charities-they dig wells in third world countries.
http://www.charitywater.org/about/
The founder spoke at a local function and the story of this worthwhile group is really awesome.

Some facts about water:
4,500 children will die today from water related disease
1.1 billion people don't have access to safe drinking water
millions of women and children carry 25 pounds of water 3 miles every day

There is much that you can do to help. Donate and/or consider speaking about this charity to church and civic groups. Thank you!

Trace, glad you are an equal opportunity head twister! “Come on baby, let’s do the twist!” A little flash from the past.

Today I am thankful for:
*Watching the Amazing Race, my only reality show.
*chick flick Sundays on the Hallmark Channel. If any of the guys at the lodge or the Co-op ask what I was doing, tell them I was watching March Madness.
*getting the late tax in yesterday morning, which was a momentary relief and then on to the next.
*being able to listen to Trixie, and drive time on 94.3 the X on my computer. She is the drive time DJ, on our local Hard Rock channel, and after checking on Trace’s channel on my app, I had a Duh! moment and pulled up that local, rowdy girl, Trixie.
*the app Shazam! Great to find out new tunes on the radio.

take care, bob

Your poor Aunt Gertie.

What of the will NOT to have guilt!?

THAT oughta get you off yer bum and writing a note to your dear Aunt who will be gone a long time and you will be sorry you didn't tell her you loved her when she could hear it with her ears...

You don't write... you don't call...

Wait. That was MY Aunt Gertie...

Thought for the Day Commentary:

What counts most in life is not IQ but WQ, "Will Quotient." No one can plead that he or she lacks will. There is will in every desire. Every desire carries with it the will to bring that desire to fruition. When it comes to something we like, we have all the will we need. Someone says, "Hey, come on, we’re going skiing!" and that is enough. We will get out of bed at three in the morning, drive for hours, stand cheerfully in the snow waiting for the ski lift, and in general suffer all kinds of discomfort with a will of iron. Yet as small a challenge as a letter to Aunt Gertrude will find the will against us.

To control our destiny, we need to harness our will, to do not what we like, but what is in our long-term best interest. If the will is strong enough, great things can be accomplished; if the will is weak, very little. In every endeavor, it is the man or woman with a firm will who excels.

HA! Guess the double-post gives me a chance to yell "HOWDY!" to my bud, Trace:

HEY GRRL! Yeah, definitely c'mon over to see Kali, the new wheels! Trek camped in your front room for several days during my amazing visit with you, so you know her well!

Oh, Bob... I am an equal opportunity head-twister... I twist the heads off up and down my org chart!!

Today I am grateful the heads in my down-line are not needing any twisting off yet...

I am grateful for what I hear tell is Maha's new bike and if I can get out of here in time to get home before I drop over, I am gonna read that blog o' hers...

Grateful for you and you and YOU over there... and for the other thing I hear tell of... this warm weather that is ON. ITS. WAY.

RIGHT WARM WEATHER?
