Happy Birthday, Maha! May you have a day of joy and wonder.

This morning I am thankful for ...

* a deeper appreciation of good health (nothing like the flu to make me appreciate the times when I feel good)

* nothing like a stack of dirty dishes in the sink to make me appreciate a clean kitchen

* Calling into work to take sick leave and not feeling guilty (well only a little guilty)

* knowing I've opened a new can of worms when I leave therapy sobbing (what the mind doesn't know the heart reveals)

* opening the blinds and letting in the light (such as it is on this cloudy day)

* as always, a life truly worth living, recognizing new possibilities each day & understanding that with freedom to choose comes the need to make conscious choices

Shine,
Sandra

Tonight, I come to end my beautiful day and fill my head with sincere gratitude to sleep on tonight:

-Getting to hear about all of Maha's birthday week celebrations (as it should be - the celebrations and your sharing them!!!) - also getting to hear about Bob's celebrations, though they were not totally as hoped for due to circumstances (and I've added that movie to our Netflix queue, Bob)!!!
-The depth of caring and sharing that I feel with Maha on a consistent basis, though both of us are so busy with our lives - special birthday wishes to you, my dear friend (friend to all, really)
-Spending quality time with another local dear friend twice over the weekend - she had a near-death experience last week and walked away without a scratch, is clearly suffering from a bit of PTSD, as would anybody with that experience
-Being able to use part of my recent bonus (yet another gratitude) to fund a much-needed and nurturing massage for her, as well as having mutually nurturing and caring in-depth conversations about life and death, family drama, just little everyday stuff like that!! :-)
-Excellent treatment to myself this weekend, including good food, relatively healthy eating, and more-than-perfect exercise experiences (a 30-minute warmup walk/pilates/hot yoga with my dear friend Sunday, a full two hours of good stuff; an hour-long gorgeous walk today by myself that included walking along the Missouri River, followed by a small nature santuary wooded trail
-A 90-minute massage Saturday late morning that just set a good tone for me after a difficult Friday
-The calmness I feel today after my alone walk where I was able to come to some positive resolution within myself about my difficult family situation
-All of you amazing people and this important practice that we share

Goodnight all ...

Stephanie

Monday afternoon:

1. A temporarily quiet house
2. One content birthday boy (youngest is 11 today) who wants to put off his celebrating until he can see Aunt TAZ(smomgol) tomorrow in town. He even said, I don't want to open any gifts until we are at her house. What a nut! Hey, Taz! He's bringing his birthday brownies, too, so get ready to add one into your food tracking for tomorrow!
3. Unhappy dh is happy again
4. Big boys are out and about
5. Another cup of coffee for me

Steph, Kim, Maha thank you so much for the thoughts you sent me! Taz I am very bugged by your posts- ok I know it’s bad, but it was just lying there ready to be punned. The 20 year old driver is a home town boy! Trace go forth and fight the mighty Hun!

*drinking beer, watching Nascar, cussing, yelling at women from construction sites (ok it’s accessorizing ideas, but I am very sexist saying them, co-ordinate girls!!!), crotch grabbing, and other guy things.
*talking with my sister, whose always been so close until the last 5 years or so. We are doing much better, and you know the hospital visit helped this out also- lots of contact. Also my dear niece- Laurie’s side- called. She is an artist in San Diego and is finally doing really well, and is illustrating cartoons/sketches for a book on relationships to be released soon.
*seeing the flowering plum, Prunus mume ‘Mitsobara Red’ blooming in the rose garden this morning. It is just a perfect little tree in shape, and form. It often gets nipped by frost, but we look clear for a while, so we can enjoy it. It also will force in January! If you are in zone 7 or 8 try it, zone 6 only in a protected mircro-clime.

*for being able to watch a fav. movie on my birthday, ‘Inn of the Sixth Happiness’, straring Ingrid Bergman. Obviously I wanted to watch wrasslin’ or Ice Road Truckers, and only watched this to please the wife!!! Ok, it’s an all time fav. of mine, loving the scenery, storyline, seeing such a determined person, and yeah the lovey dovey stuff, which feels so real.

In watching it this time, I realized what an amazing role for a women at that time- late 50’s/early 60’s? She played an independent, determined, do whatever is needed, courageous, woman, who could be soft, but whose love interest knew her well enough to know she was going to do what she thought right irregardless of what anyone else said. Growing up then, I know this is not how society was. Mothers show it to your daughters very relevant now, everyone else watch it also if you haven’t seen it, it’s long but well worth it.

See you in the balcony! Bob Siskel

~and the bug stories keep coming! An hour before lunch, I reached for the BIG thermos to make coffee for our dinner guests. There was one funny curling BIG red ant hanging by one teeny "foot" on the opening of the spout. Hmm! better look inside YIKES! Shut it quick! It was crawling inside with ants and eggs. Oh gross!!! This hap´d once before but the ants were teeny not-stingers! Fortunately hubby was home so I didn´t have the job of getting them outa there! I took the thermos outside in the sun and opened it hoping they would leave in the heat. Hubby shows up (BTW, he had rec´d a number of wasp stings earlier in the day when he was trimming a tree back from the electric wires) and proceeds to try to shake ´em out! I hear Ouch! OUCH! OUCH!!! Now he has ant stings too! Good thing he is not allergic to ANYTHING!

Are you tired of this yet?! So he had to take the screws out of the top in order to clean the whole nest out of there - which became MY job. I washed it with dish soap and a toothbrush, then rinsed several times, then a couple more times with vinegar and more water. Hubby put it all back together; I checked to make sure the pump worked. Then made the coffee. Was in a rush then to finish lunch prep and the men were already arriving. Finished setting table and went to shower before hubby finished with grilling. Got it all on the table, the 8 men and a boy sat down and happily dug in! And I returned to my office, ever so thankful that I went through all of THAT without screaming, yelling, crying, panicking, dying, laughed a little, breathed deeply some, sighed a few times, and made it through. Guests have no idea what their hosts go through, huh?!

So, anything else for which I am grateful?

~reading your posts and smiling, sighing, pining with you
~a wonderful compliment from a friend last night that she sees that I am slimming a bit;it is wonderful when someone notices
~will probably see Michele and her fam tomorrow
~hearing about a 20 yr old rookie winning the Daytona 500! My son in heaven is surely smiling about THAT if he knows! He was a Formula 1 fan and had looked into schools for racing!
~exercises completed 1st thing
~happily fit olives into my eating plan

What would I EVAR do without any'a yinz?

And I'm SO thankful for this long weekend... it is quite the restorative to have an extra day to gird myself against the Hun of dictatorial directors and general brainlessness I am testing my patience with on a daily basis...

Happy extra weekend day for those of us who have it.. and thank you for working if you do not in case no one thinks to tell you so...

I tell you one thing – if you want peace of mind, do not find fault with others. Rather learn to see your own faults. Learn to make the whole world your own. No one is a stranger, my child; this whole world is your own.

Good morning! Is it your birthday season now as well, Mazzy??? Hope your Personal New Year is beginning with great joy, Bob! I entered the planet Feb 23, 1942. It's not an easy year emotionally for lots of reasons, but having this community and this practice helps mucho! Giving thanks~~

~ for the lovely day with Sandra

~ for festivities ahead this evening, dinner and Wynton Marsalis

~ for a healthy body and sound(?) mind

~ for many options, even though sometimes I *feel* backed into a corner

~ for the day ahead to use mindfully

Blessed be!

Commentary from Thought for the Day:

When we get even the slightest glimpse of the unity of life, we realize that in tearing others down we are tearing ourselves down too. When you sit in judgment on other people and countries and races, you’re training your mind to sit in judgment on yourself. As we forgive others, we are teaching the mind to respond with forgiveness everywhere, even to the misdeeds and mistakes of our own past.

Happy Birthday to Bob!!! And to Mazzyr's birthday MONTH!!!! I think we just all need to celebrate all the time.

My gratitudes for tonight:

-Bob's Steph infection!!!!! ROFLOL :-) Thank you so very much for the big smiles tonight, Bob!!
-My ability to appear (and really feel) very positive with my words, even though being in the middle of huge family drama, anger, emotions, etc. (Bob - my deal is "fake it 'til you make it)
-All of you wonderful people and this amazing practice we share (the good, the bad and the ugly)
-Protecting myself from further verbal abuse, despite having to cut off a relationship with my stepfather to do so, causing major upset to my mother. Very hard times, with difficult decisions and lots of thinking about it
-My communication skills, that allow me to truly share my feelings and stand up for myself (after taking 4 days in general, and 1-1/2 days of paid time off to let the anger cool down) and set my boundaries, yet not be nasty (despite previously being told I was living in a cesspool of my own making - pretty horrible words)
-Old family friends, who know the history and the players, and help me sort through all of this family drama, assuring me that I'm not being a rude jerk
-My partner's continued support by just being there for me and allowing me to move through this in whatever way I need to
-My sister and her support (she's already been there)
-The truth in being able to have more than one feeling at a time

Goodnight all ...

Stephanie

Thankful at the waning of this cold wet day for:
-my tendency to think ("too" according to many but NOT to me!) deeply.
-the clarity and wholeness this brings to my perspective, as much as we mere hoomins can HAVE such, for a minute or two.
-garden catalogues;
-being able to think through all the various angles of planning a garden improvment, expansion, etc.
-young, to me, patience being tried and tested by such
-the awareness of the need to balance, and the willingness to face the challenge of doing that each day
-the humility to realize it has to be done over and over
-the revelations doing so provides me
YOU YOU YOU!

Trace, trust me sista I have been thinking of drinking!!! I have also been doing good on my water. The best thing I did was get to 108 oz, and not try to hit the gallon level one night. I knew it was too late to drink that much, and didn’t. OMG I may be learning something! Me not pushing and being ok not hitting a goal is my best work- oh I hit the gallon level on all but 2 days since being back. Sandra, Immunity FX or at this point Cold FX. Check-it out, one of the only things proven to help with viruses.

Today I am thankful for:

*Spark buds supporting me and cheering me up while I've been ill!
**Humility- I was overdoing it early last week and got slammed Thursday and was trashed and couldn’t get out of bed. I still am sore and exhausted. I realized I’d been doing a lot of really hyper-active activities because I was feeling a lot of Anxiety. After the testing at the hospital I felt I had no humility (or dignity) left, so this really stood out to me and really humbled me.

*Illness and Injury- I hate them and fight against them, and as you know am stunned and confused karmically by their frequency- 36 in two years????, but I have learned so much from them the last two years. Don’t get me wrong I sooooooo loved my two months free of them in Dec. and Jan., but I also see my perspective expanding widely. From my recent appreciation of simply drinking water and eating, to the vision of the importance of my eyes from last year’s torn retina and cataract each problem brings so much more wisdom. Concussion- I appreciate my incredible quick mind I have always had, last Falls vertigo- the value of balance; back injury, knee injury, shoulder etc.- deep appreciation of exercise, and just being able to do it even once, of walking, of simply moving; lacerating my fingers- being frickin’ mindful when demonstrating with sharp objects-ha!; prostrate infection- got nothing, etc. And the biggest and hardest, Depression- being sensitive, creative, caring, humble, supportive,…. I hate seeing how much it’s changed my personality and my life, but so much is for the good! Ps. Sandra just saw the 2/17 post towards the end that says this much better!

*my wife helping me go grocery shopping today. I have been craving fresh fruits and veggies and have not been up to facing shopping on my own.
*reading Steph’s infectiously positive posts! Oh, I am feeling woozy! Help I got the positives!!!
*my brother remembering to call me on my birthday. Ok, he didn’t mention my birthday and could have been calling to see how I was feeling, but with my Steph infection I can’t see it that way.
*listening to the Cranberries today- luvvvvvv them……uhhhhh I mean Pantera, and Metallica! Dido ditto! ooops I mean ditto Korn!

Got to go spit and scratch! The butch one, bob

ps. Happy Birthday to me today!!!!!!!!!! Sorry for the birthday month confusion on 2/1. My serious wife is like a kid when Birthday month starts on 9/1. She was born on the 29th, but always celebrates the whole month, so it's Birthday month.

Tonight, I am grateful for so much, including:

-The opportunity to find a 12-year-old cat with kidney disease a wonderful new home, alleviating the potential of her being put down by a shelter (even no-kills aren't 100% no-kill)
-Helping a dear old friend
-Four days off ... with lots of good intentions, including R&R, massage, reading, shopping (I have gift cards to spend), slow, long chai tea lattes, hmmmmm ... nap
-The magic of Facebook - puttin' it out there and finding a perfect situation/new home in less than 24 hours ... only on Facebook!!
-Looking forward to some "me" time ...coming right up

Goodnight all ... (I'm behind, and hope to get caught up over the weekend)

Oh, it has been a while....But even though not posting much lately, gratitude abounds in my life.

* For a weekend getaway...the first FUN trip (not business, or parental care giving trip) since 11/09, when we spent a day with Carli!
* For a great, REALLY great, place to stay at the bottom of our budget range (anyone going to las vegas, I have a recommendation for you!)
* Sharing relaxing, tho high calorie, meals with my sweet hubby at the top of the Stratospher, the Bellagio, and Texas de Brazil...and being able to afford them.
* My dear feet, that allowed me to walk for miles, and although they protested, they kept on going
* Wake up calls...and a reminder of how easy it is to GAIN weight when eating high fat, high sodium meals
* My life, with all its ups and downs, joys and sorrows, emotional highs and lows, struggles and successes, aches and pains, strengths and weaknesses, and tons of human error...I wouldn't trade it for any one elses.
* The peace that comes with total acceptance of who I am.

Ohhh! I've missed a few days it seems. Not sure where my week has gone.

What can I be thankful for today?

I had a fit, but I got over it.
I took a nap, and don't feel so zapped.
Off for a walk in a bit.
