Just a few hours before the beginning of a new decade, it is only appropriate that I end my day AND my year focusing on my favorite topic of 2010 - GRATITUDE. I have so much to be thankful for, including:

-Seeing the huge smile and twinkling brown eyes of my partner when I woke her at the hospital today
-Ordering a "guest plate" to have what I thought would be a crummy hospital food meal with her instead of either of us eating alone on New Year's Eve - then having to eat both my meal AND my words!!! :-)
-Love
-Tenderness
-Warmth
-Anticipating waking up to a new decade!
-This amazing team of people, sharing so much

Here's to the best year ever for all of us ...

See you on the new thread (no, AT, I have NOT peeked!!!!) next year!!!

Stephanie

Although one is not to ever follow dogs or children... or BOB...

I will take my turn here to be thankful...

for a month... a year... a decade...

not because they were not hard...

but because the hard things were all lessons that I learned... or didn't...

and I am thankful for having the gift... the present... of the present...

so I can give it another shot...

Thank you ALL for putting up with me...

I am thankful to be one of you.

A Happy New Year to us all...

I was at work really late and had to leave before posting. So, I am sending this from my iPhone- did I tell you I had an iPhone- so my last post of the year will be short- ok, the clapping and cheering is a bit much.

Today I am grateful for:
* Animal Crackers being on TCM tonight. "Hurray for Captain Spaulding......." good way to end a hard day, a hard week, a hard year, a hard decade!
*the oughts are out yeah new decade!
*wonderful goodies from Thanksgiving buds!!! Thanks for thinking of me. They were very much appreciated.
*my bluetooth keyboard for letting me post them from home!
*my greatest blessings my wife, Laurie and my dear teacher, Geshe Damdul!
*my good friends at the Thanksgiving group! Thanks so much for providing the space for me to develop and strengthen my positive side!!!
take care! bob
ps. when I saw the post come up on the site I realized I can be verbose even on an iPhone, sorry guys! I'll try it with one hand tied behind my back, standing on one foot.

Grateful today for this marker...New Years Eve, a chance to REALLY take time to look back and review the events that have impacted our lives. All for good, tho they may not seem so as we pass through some of them.

Each year, mid Jan or early Feb, my best friend and I host a women's luncheon. This tradition has been going on since 1982. Wow. We gather with a group of friends, some of which we only see on that day each year...and pot luck. Eat and drink for an hour or two, then get down to business. We pass out index cards. This year one side will say 2010 and one will say 2011. We each take a few moments to anonymously write down the accomplishments, our gifts and trials of the previous year, and on the other side, write down goals and dreams (NOT resolutions) for the upcoming year. All cards go into a basket.

Then the fun begins.

We each draw a card and then someone starts. The first card is read aloud, and we all shout out who we think it is (usually pretty easy, but sometimes we have no clue) and that person then stands in the middle of the cirlce, is toasted by all, and has time to share or expound on anything they want. Then, that person reads aloud the card they now hold...and so on until each woman is honored, and has their moment to share their previous year. Kind of like we do here, on a regular basis.

We collect and save the cards and it is amazing to look back over all these years, and where we have come, how we have grown, and how we have all been richly blessed.

I have been thinking about it all day, and suppose this should be my blog, rather than my list of gratitudes, but it triggers my thinking.

I am SO grateful for my life...every aspect of it. And yes, this has really been a tough past few months for me...but I can see the purging, and the polishing that has taken place. I am so excited, as I look forward to a new calendar year, to see what it holds for me (and all of you)

I guess I will post it as a blog, too...heh heh heh...

Here's to a safe and joyous night tonight, however you spend it.

Today, I come to start my day (well, almost) with focusing on gratitude, for despite all that is happening that is not good, I have much to be grateful for, including:

-My partner and her amazing spirit
-The kind firefighters who were here quickly to get my partner back into bed yesterday morning after she lost strength in both her arms and legs (MS relapse, likely)
-Nothing seriously hurt despite 3 falls yesterday
-Persistence, it pays off in today's health care world with so many sick people to tend to
-Good friends, one of whom got us a walker and a beside commode on moment's notice yesterday
-Maha's friendship and caring
-LynnAnn, my inspiration and hope
-Always, always, always - my health and the ability to exericse as I want to, as I know so many with debilitating disease who are unable to do so

Make it an excellent day everybody!

Hello team-mates! It's been awhile since I posted, and I hope you are all well.

Today I'm thankful for:
*Newly found closeness with my sister as we share the ups and downs of her cancer treatment

*The power of love to give us strength we didn't know we had

*Trees in the house! A wacky, but deliciously fragrant concept.

*My nephews

*Every task I manage to accomplish

I'm Sue, and I won't let fear hold me back.

Maha! I was up at 4:30 peeing, too!!!

But, wait... you're an hour behind me,...

Well, that was a wild shot in the dark...

Maybe the Univese doesn't recogize time zones or else all the peeing is actually happening at once or else...

Ok, fine.

I'm thankful for everything that goes right in the midst of chaos...

For being able to help and therefore mitigate the harm...

For lists that help me get it all done...

For thirst which reminds me to drink some more water...

For the bright sunlight that is promising me those 40 degree temperatures ARE SO coming...

Any place is sacred ground, for it can become a place of encounter with the divine Presence.
-- David Steindl-Rast, A Listening Heart

Good morning! WOW! I can't believe it...I went to bed late last night (around midnight) and didn't set my (ocean waves with sea gulls) alarm...I woke up at 8:15am!!! That's unheard of for me with OR without an alarm. With my second cup of hearty brew in-hand now, and looking around at all the sadness and suffering, I'm here to share some of what's RIGHT in my life~~

~ having this Thanks Giving Community...and following Kat, a GREAT *model* of giving thanks, sharing an amazing plate of goodness

~ ATransformation reminding me of a resource she tuned me in to (after Googling one's desired subject, e.g., Joy, click on Images at the top of the page) which opened up all kinds of new graphics for me (including GIVE JOY GET JOY on my SPage which I discovered with her looking over my shoulder while I was visiting her last year at this time!)

~ Vicki/Taz's mincemeat pie recipe -- YUM!

~ the joy of roasting your own coffee beans, as Karbie and DH did (last time I did it was in the high jungle of Peru, after a neighbor who grows coffee gave us a burlap bag of beans)

~ cyber resources: Ann's Christmas made global in scope with the webcam that enabled family to *be* with family in Germany

Blessed be!

-Learning about the new recumbent bike and trying THREE of its EIGHT programs TODAY!! Wooo hooo!!

Material progress and a higher standard of living bring us greater comfort and health, but do not lead to a transformation of the mind, which is the only thing capable of providing lasting peace. Profound happiness, unlike fleeting pleasures, is spiritual in nature. It depends on the happiness of others and it is based on love and affection.

Late Christmas Gratitudes
* Being aware of the love that surrounds me.
* Midnight mass and sharing Champagne and cookies afterwards with neighbors til the wee hours
* Dinner today with son and family - the most relaxed gathering with them in years
* Grandkids - the magic in their eyes, their innocence, their joys over simple pleasures, their hugs, their excitement, their energy and most of all, their good health
* My husband finally snapping out of his grumps this afternoon
* Party at neighbors late tonight
* Recognition that the sadness felt earlier this week was temporary, and that the miracle of Christmas always supercedes feelings of isolation and loneliness.
* Eating so much chocolate and goodies that I cannot WAIT to get back on track tomorrow

Today, I'm switching things up a bit and sharing my MORNING time on this amazing ThanksGiving Community thread:

-French toast made from challah for dinner last night - what a treat
-Deciding to NOT go out to a party last night, instead, just chilling out at home
-A restful day planned, including movie and Scrabble time!
-A remake of my fresh organic cranberry salad that was made at Thanksgiving and so good we're repeating
-My partner, who has dealt with nearly a year of serious sinus problems (including surgery), is FINALLY feeling better
-Trying to be very gentle with myself as I struggle through the holidays by simply trying to remain grateful for all that I have, especially the people in my life and the basics that so many do not have (food, shelter, warmth)
-My dear friend, Maha - one of those special people in my life - and her amazing spirit to get out and serve today
-A wonderful e-mail from Lessbigbob that brought a BIG SMILE to my face (at a time when I'm sure he didn't even realize I needed it)!!
-This amazing community - ALL OF YOU - as we share together in a practice that is simply life-changing

I hope that each of you has a wonderful and special day in whatever way you choose to spend it.

Stephanie

Sing like no one's listening, love like you've never been hurt, dance like nobody's watching, and live like its heaven on earth.

I am grateful for this Christmas morning, a day when we pause to remember that this precious life is a gift.

When the rays of hope are brighter.

When bonds of love are strengthened.

When doors of generosity are flung wide.

When the voice of spirit whispers and shouts "I am here."

On this morning of Christmas Eve, I wish for each of you .... May you find peace and joy during this season of new beginnings. May your star shine bright. May you live in the knowledge you are loved.

On this morning, I am ever-so-grateful for ...

* the heartfelt sharing among us in this community
* living through depression
* the luxury to re-invent myself at age 58 by going back to school
* braving the snow and cold to see family (WI, IL & MN)
* finding glimpses of joy more often
* loving myself even when I over-indulge (which is all too frequent)
* a warm bed, food in the fridge & clothes in the closet
* more than enough
* how my heart feels when I am grateful
* thank you all for teaching me gratitude
* as always, a life worth living, possibilities & freedom to choose.

Shine,
Sandra

Good morning! I love gathering with you all in community -- knowing that Bob is safe, for Asherah's interview, for ABurris' vision and gift of writing it, that Lynn has persisted and thrived through 28 years of marriage, that Michelle found her inner well of joy, for Trace traveling to Christmas with loved ones, Elaine's sharing of the wonderful music video...and So.Much.More~~

Gratitudes tonight
* Maha steering me to Lynn's lovely (and I mean powerful-lovely!) blog today, in honor of her 28 year marriage
* Coming to grips with family dynamics
* It has been a very strange, and somewhat lonely holiday season, but I still believe in the magic of the season. Waited patiently (well, as patiently as one CAN wait) and the magic has dusted my life once again.
* Christmas plans coming to fruition.
* Flu resolving
* Energy enough to do five loads of laundry and change sheets
