A fond farewell to May. With music, food and laughter.
I am thankful for the health of my family. For a lovely home and a soft place to fall. For fresh produce and a freezer full of fish. (That will take me far) For weather that reminds me that summer is around the corner. For safe travel for those on the roads near and far.

Interesting....I too, have cut WAY back on Sparks, for the very reason. Balance. One easily can get involved in the social network component of this site, rather than focusing on the original intent of joining in the first place. Yes, support is extremely important, but as we journey down our private roads to health, we still do it alone.

Posting gratitudes is a practice that is important to me....and even if I spend only 5-10 minutes of my day on line here, I intend to keep posting. Other teams rarely see or hear from me...and I have dropped many due to lack of interest.

We each need to find the path that truly works for us...I hate to see anyone leave, but certainly understand all the reasons people do...

Now, Monday gratitudes:
* Freedom to spend time with neighbors, discussing anything with open candor.
* For the price that many paid to purchase this for me.
* For my dad, my uncle, my brother, and many friends who returned safely from WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam
* That my life has been relatively safe and comfortable, never having experienced war on my home land
* For spending the afternoon in the pool with the grandkids
* For total physical exhaustion, and knowing that I exercised all my calories away

I am thankful for:
a great 3 day camping trip with dh in our new trailer.
that ds, his wife and new baby were not hurt when someone rear ended them on the weekend
that I met someone that had the same knee surg. that I am having, relaxes some of my nerves
a super friend from work who made me a "rock" turtle. I had mentioned how I read a book that turtles have hard shells when needed, soft insides to feel their "feelings", and can hide their heads when needed. she painted me a rock. how sweet, she is moving jobs and I will miss her a lot
getting things organized for surgery
a thankful but sad, memories of mum a year tomorrow that she passed. been thinking of her a lot the past few days.

HUGS To all,

sorry to see you go Norlana.

Wow.

Was it something *I* said? *hopes NOT*

It was Noreen who brought me to this group (after Maha poked at me about it) so I really owe her a big fat hug and a kiss on the lips...

I get what she is doing and I have put myself on a Spark Point diet for all the reasons she told you, AT... but I can't let go of it yet...

I am thankful for knowing that my life needs living...

and I am thankful for a bunch of people here who have proven time and time again that I can always count on your support...

I'm going to go wring the last of this long weekend out and I'm with you all even when I'm not here running my mouth...

Hugs Hugs Hugs...

Grateful for: spending Sunday at a cookout with family and friends of the family. The two little boys there really enliven things up. Thankful that both my parents could come, thankful that a friend had a successful outing with her dogs, and that the coming work week will be relatively short.

It’s nice to see you (and others) back Caroline, and a bit bittersweet to bid Noreen adieu (for now). Over time the planets do appear to align to shift our focus and it makes sense for our continued growth that we step back or step out of space we’ve lingered in or around for a while.

I’ve taken time in recent weeks to rein in some of my habitual ‘extended stays’ here at SparkPeople and at other web sites. It’s not difficult for some of us to allow online pursuits to divert our focus from other facets of our lives. I’m grateful for the technology that facilitates access to and the exchange of information, and that which entertains – but I’m conscious of a need to make choices about how much time I spend online and for what purposes. Currently, other important or necessary things often go waiting or wanting while I wallow, quite happily, in cyberspace…

While that may be good for the intellectual and social sides of myself, beyond information gathering, sharing and peer support (which have their place) it’s not conducive to my physical health and well-being to meander around in the ‘virtual’ world for hours on end at the expense of doing more active and sometimes more productive things.

I’ve reflected recently on how Spark fits into my life and reached a few clear conclusions and decisions.

The entire site is without doubt the best ‘toolbox’ available to help one develop and manage lifestyle changes aimed at improving and enhancing physical health and well-being. I need to redirect some of my time and energy to re-establish the habits I developed in my early days of ‘sparking’ – to revisit and really rework ‘my program’. The motivation for this is simple but sometimes feels very overwhelming: if I don’t lose weight and develop a higher degree of physical fitness my overall health will continue to deteriorate.

As well, I feel I’ve found many kindred souls frequent the same places I do at SparkPeople. I’m very grateful for the presence of all of you and feel blessed to have ‘met’ you here. Reading your gratitudes and sharing some of my own I often feel that at some levels we’ve been more open and more genuine than would likely have been the case had we first ‘met’ in person – in the absence of visual and aural distractions we’re so much better at revealing that which is in our hearts.

As others have recently posted, I too find myself feeling the need to meander down a path of less talk, more action. I truly appreciate the inspiration and wisdom shared here – this journey with all of you has been a most wonderful and rewarding one in a multitude of ways. I intend to continue to pop in here, but less frequently than I was (perhaps just once or twice a week – except when on vacation).

All of that said, my gratitudes tonight include –

-- finding the energy and motivation to sweep the deck and clean out/re-organize two large garden tool boxes today (in between the rain drops!)

-- having time to catch up on posts here, including Maha’s recent blogs…and if you’re listening Maha, do feel free to cruise on up to Vancouver Island!

-- having shared time and space with a most wonderful man for more than half of my life

-- travel plans coming together for California in July and the opportunity (at last!) to meet Michelle in person

-- garden space, blossoms and water bells

Have a terrific week ahead everyone!

It is our sameness that draws us together. It is our differences that help us grow. It is respect that makes this possible.

We all need to take time for ourselves and loved ones...

On this beautiful spring/summer evening, I give thanks for:
- this site an Maha who introduced me to another way to thank the universe
- a wonderful day of golf with my Dh
- a great breakfast and super supreme pizza
- sitting on the deck catching up with spark friends

Although I know we will all miss Norlana, I can certainly empathize with her decision. As I've mentioned, I am cutting back on my Spark participation to find balance between the preparing and the doing. Another book, another website, another newsletter, and so on. I can live in my head all too easily; so for me to find balance I must focus on action for now. I realize we are all different--as Spark says, "an experiment of one"--and I seek my own particular path.

I have been able for the most part to read the gratitudes of all you dear people, and I will post when I can, but still I will note each day the many things I have to be grateful for.

On this sunny, breezy late afternoon I give thanks for:

the lifting of my spirit by church services today

the grace of communion

making new commitments and re-commitments to myself

the joy of reading the current issue of Shambhala Sun, which Gail introduced me to, containing among other things an in-depth article about Thick Nhat Hanh's life with wonderful photos and a long interview with him--what a blessing he is

eating breakfast within a half hour of awakening

organic, grass-feed extra-lean ground chuck that became the Quaker Oats meatloaf my mother used to make

remembering on this eve of Memorial Day all who gave the ultimate sacrifice to serve their country and being so, so grateful that my father came home.

Peace and blessings,

Michelle

Boy, it feels good to be back here..I have missed posting gratitudes for a while now. I need to come back and post daily so I feel better. Also some things are happening, I believe for a reason, that are going to get me movin! I am morbidly obese and can no longer stand it.....

So I am beginning this journey once again and instead of just coming here to post I will be EXERCISING too..lol
What a capital idea....

Grateful for.......

my sense of humor...
my new (used) pool in my backyard
my youngest having the time of his life in that pool
going to camp with daughter...tomorrow
knowing that I always have a place to come and be among friends
finding a bathing suit that doesnt make my body look any worse that it already does...
and finally, having the ambition to change my ways and once again try to be healthy.

I will not be posting again until Friday...pray that I make it through camp... emoticon

Remember to smile more, to laugh more, to think before we speak, to love like there is no tomorrow, to not be afraid to be honest, to reach out and hug someone that needs it!

I just had a nice chat with Noreen, and she wanted me to let you all know that everything is REALLY fine in her life. She's just rearranging priorities to ensure that rather than just sitting around and talking it, she is actually out living her life.

She is a great lady, and will TRULY be missed here!

Today, I am thankful for all of you.

I am going unplug from Sparks and so wanted to stop by and say goodbye. Thank you all for your words of encouragement, friendship and a chance to share in your life filled with gratitude.

Love to all,

Today, may I make good decisions that create positive outcomes and may I have wonderful, loving people in my life to share this awesome journey with.

I am thankful for a chance to get out of Mooville for a minute of head clearing and making it a good idea to spend 7 hours in the car in service to a wonderful woman who has been like family for so many years... a chance to visit with her in this world is a grace not a burden... even if I AM driving 7 hours to go be thankful!...

Harrummppfff...

(Does the Harrummphfff cancel out the thankfulness?... Hm.)

I am thankful for you cool people who keep me moving forward... upward and forward no matter how hard I tug in the other direction...

Birthday wishes for everything you want, AT... Hugs for San and a Happy Memorial Day Weekend to all of you...

See you on the other side of my... Harrummmpppffff... trip to Western Mooville...

Grateful for allergy meds, especially after the pollen from the pine trees here caused horrific hives for me. Grateful that puppy girl is happy here, that the grocery shopping is done, and that I was able to help my mother clean the refrigerator. What a job to really clean out the refrig! looks great now and we're happy.

Gratitudes:

that the sky went from gray to blue in about 30 minutes this morning and I'm going to try to get some gardening done asap

for a wonderful, productive day off work yesterday

for going out to ballroom dancing with the DH and that he got to break in the dance shoes I bought him for our anniversary

the my performance review went very well and that I remembered to ask the Dir. what I can do to increase my score and he told me and it's doable

for a handsome husband and a beautiful daughter who are also healthy

for my friends, here and in the cyber world

Wow.

I am thankful for you people because now I know if I go away for too long you will come for me...

I am thankful that Big Bob is still here at Spark and I bet he will let us know if he needs hugs or to be left alone for a minute...

I am thankful for getting an extra hour to finish that stupid report this morning.

I am thankful that the insanity of that office finally has quieted so I can get a few things done this weekend and make good on the commitments I made to visit with my Aunt and an old family friend over this long beginning to summer weekend and I have heard...

I will be thankful for really nice weather... since I'll be driving in it...

I hope I remembered to be thankful for a message from Maha that she was choosing her path and then her wonderful blog and pictures...

because I AM thankful for ALL of yinz.

Every. Single. One.

On this Friday evening, ending my work week with much to be grateful for:

-A paid 3-day holiday weekend AND getting to leave early today (of course, I worked LATE the night before)
-Having a high enough platelet count to give a triple donation today, the day before a holiday weekend when blood/platelets are greatly needed
-Carryout (and with AWESOME veggies)
-Learning how to lighten up on myself a bit from my athletically competitive nature
-A relaxing, laid back, chill out (you get the drift?) kind of evening

DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHERE LESSBIGBOB IS - I left a note on his page with no reply. I miss his banter!

Have a great night!

Stephanie

car is fixed...(body shop) now for brake work! wish someone else would pay for the brakework, just as someone else paid for the body work. LOL!

Grateful for family this weekend, that all are doing well, grateful that there is no bad work news this week, and hoping for good news to continue. Grateful for sweet pupper dog, and for a good sister.

Just wanted to let you know that I will be posting only occasionally for a while. Nonetheless, I will be here with you in spirit and keep you all in my heart and in my prayers. Each night before I go to sleep I will count my blessings.

Tonight I am grateful for:

a fine telephone visit with Gail yesterday and learning that I will soon meet her in person

feeling more and more in charge of my life, my very own tapestry to weave

the lovely fan-shaped leaves on my Ginkgo tree

an open-face toasted cheese (extra-sharp Cheddar) sandwich, just like my Mom used to make me when I was a child

a day of feeling I was doing exactly what I should at any giving moment

suddenly reconnecting with people from my high school whom I haven't be in touch with in since those days, lo those many years ago

three more shopping bags of shredded paper to recycle thanks to my intrepid shredder

being able to stay in my warm flat on a cold and rainy day.

Peace and blessings to all you dear people,

Michelle

Well.

I turned out to be thankful for:
~ Actually getting up almost as early as I thought I needed to so I could

~ Actually get out the door with Pickles for a 2 mile walk in the cool of the day before it got to be 11,000 degrees...

I FORGOT TO FINISH THE STATUS REPORT!!!! YIKES!

I'm going to be paying for that tomorrow,...

I think I'm thankful for remembering so I can try to cobble something together from nothing here tonight...

Peace out, yinz guys!

I am thankful for the concept of giving myself a break... one I plan to put into practice. Real soon...

I'm also thankful for the bed I am going to jump into right now... with the idea that I will get up early so me and the Pickles can go for a walk before work while it is still cool...

Sensing a pattern here... I will be further thankful for plans... Seeing an early rising... a calm beginning to the day and everything getting done...

Boy, if I can manifest all THAT... you're gonna be hearing from a thankful Trace tomorrow!!!

Grateful tonight
* That although I am barely hanging on with only 3-4 hourrs sleep each night (gotta love prednisone) I am hanging on....and BREATHING!
* For being in a position to rescue the toddler I found wandering in the street while driving home last night - without injury to ANYONE!
* For other quick acting motorists that shut of my car and put on flashers
* For the incredible spring storm early morning skies on my way to work
* For driving under a rainbow this morning...the sign of hope
* For finding out today, several amazing people at the new job take their Thursday afternoon break for prayer/medidation.
* For fresh garbanzos, eggs, fava beans and asparagus from today's farmers' market
* For my mom, who will turn 85 tomorrow, and the wonderful "Balloon Guru" who creates the most wonderful "bouquets" to send to her.
* For so many other miracles, too many to mention.

Today I am grateful
For all the blessings from the Universe
For the health of my self and family and friends
For a health class attended last night given by knowledgeable, innovative instructors.
Looking forward today to meet up with another sparker for a mall walk.
For the possibility of some rain this balmy spring day.
