As the hour nears for the beginning of a new month, I am grateful for

-- March going out like a lamb
-- tulips in bloom
-- contented cats
-- floral arrangements completed
-- lower deck swept
-- feeling much better after a few 'bummer' days
-- digital cameras
-- deer noshing in the neighbour's yard (and not my garden today!)
-- onion and garlic bagels with raspberry cream cheese (weird eh?)
-- creativity and inspiration

Have a great Thursday everyone!

Tonight I give thanks for:

reading an excellent essay on how to deal with negative people, especially those who are near and dear

a test result that could have been a serious problem potentially turning out to be no problem at all

having finally found, by much trial and error, a well-respected, wise and witty therapist with whom I have perfect chemistry

the amazing progress I've made since I first started seeing him several years ago just after I finished radiation

my continuing determination to never give up on improving my mental and physical health

the blessing of always being a work in progress

reminding myself to pay more attention to the big gains I've made over the past several years and not to dwell on the rocky seas I've had to navigate on my journey

a tasty, tasty dinner with wild, coho salmon center of the plate surround be a melange of fresh vegetables

little birds cheeping as it rained; I always wonder where the sit out the wet weather

the rainy, silvery twilight I enjoyed from my front window

people who express deep and authentic empathy

my Spark teams, where I've met many a kindred spirit.

Joy to you all,

Michelle

Today is the day (in California) we honor the great Caesar Chavez, the man who fought so valiantly for the rights of the farm workers...however, it always seems weird to me, that as a government worker, *I* get a holiday, while the field workers are out picking the crops...hmmm...

With great gratitude today
* For those very workers...who live simple lives, often unnoticed by the bulk of society, yet who provide us with our very sustenance of life
* For their families, who struggle with health issues, and lack available/affordable health care
* For the families of the workers who live in poverty below our border, and the pain of separation for survival
* For my best friend's dad, who is like my own, who provided free medical care for the pickers every week, until he reached the age of 89, and could no longer do it physically
* For other people; Joan Baez, Woodie Guthrie, Pete Seeger and the likes, who spread the word of social injustice through their music
* For being abundantly blessed by being able to earn a decent wage which provides for a roof over my head, food in my kitchen, and more material goods than I need.

For this final day of March 2010, I'm grateful for the support I've received from so many directions, including my physician, this month. A renewed commitment to health, getting better each day.

For conversations, long, short, and loving.

For my sunny blue quilt, a comforting coccoon.

For a new sanskrit word and inner guidance.

Day 21 of a Yoga asana streak, releasing the grasping tensions in my body. Releasing for increased flexibility, strength and supple flow of energy.

For my first 5K on Sunday ... a shared memory with my husband ... we walked together. "We started together, let's finish together," as he put it. Right on!

Longer days and more daylight to walk with Duke in the early evenings.

Meeting the walking challenge of the 10000 steps a day team.

Grateful to Spark and friends.

For the Maker, Molder, and Builder of the Universe ... that includes all of us, you know.

I'm grateful for your most gracious welcome back, thank you.

And a gorgeous day today, all the flowers and plants burgeoning.

Tremendous gratitude for all our friends and family who helped make my husband's birthday celebration so much fun yesterday.By the way, this is a hysterically funny e-card that came:

Continued healing, I'm really feeling pretty good now, and it's extraordinary; feeling something of an actual rebirth as a result of my latest three-day dental procedures ordeal.

Gratitude for two wonderful, fantastic audio-book novels that helped pass resting and driving time "The Life of Pi", and "The Help".

For my funny little mother, she's counting the days now until she's 90 on May 1.

Thanks to YOU, Maha, for passing on the Universe's reminder to all of us...

"Argue your limitations and, sure enough, they're yours." ~ Richard Bach

How easy it all is when we decide that it is...

If it is SUCH an ordeal... then why did you make it so?

Huh?

Sue, how off-scale excellent that your friend has so little damage from an event that could have had a very different outcome...

And thanks for YOUR reminder to NOT keep good thoughts to myself...

Giving thanks today for:

*a friend surviving a stroke with limited damage

*the mentoring this friend has given me over the years

*his crazy intense self, which is often a pain in my ass, but also an indication that he shares my passion for the work we do together

*all the people who have made sure I got the news, going well out of their daily routine to reach out

*the reminder to let my affection and respect be known to those around me

Aha! Mahalakshmi, do you know what your thoughts did last week?!

Oh, yes you do.

They became the things and events of this week. The things you thought would be difficult became difficult; easy became easy; boring became boring; and fun became fun. Where you thought there might be surprises, you were surprised. And where you thought there might be land mines, there were land mines.

Bravo! You can add this week to the list of your most creative accomplishments.

Now, can you guess what your thoughts this week are going to do?

You are awesome,
The Universe
P.S. Mahalakshmi, please, choose every single one of them as if nothing else mattered.

Good morning! Sometimes the Note from the Universe seems like it was sent straight to my mind-heart...like this morning!

Wow, Trace...that's such a powerful story of strength (Parker's) and redemption (you of him)...set me back on my heels for a bit. Thanks for sharing that.

Instead of writing gratitudes in my journal this morning, I decided to post online, though I'll be off most of the day.

I'm full of thanks~~

~ for setting up a strategy today to perhaps help me turn around some of the chaos in my life
~ for dinner's sauteed kale and onions with brown rice and carrots
~ for my good health...may I NEVER take it for granted
~ for yesterday's 1/2 hour walk between classes
~ for my idea to do something -- *anything* -- aerobic at least 5 days each week

Blessed be!

Grateful for many things tonight and, as always, for all of you...

I live in the rural outskirts of a mid-sized city on a 2/3 acre property situated on a hillside with a gorgeous view over fields, forests and a snow-capped moutain range. For now, we enjoy relative privacy and need no curtains on our bedroom windows which face south and west. In fact, almost the entirety of one wall is glass, in the center of which are French doors leading out onto an upper deck. My point being -- being a 'night owl', on a clear night when I head to bed I am captivated by the magical glow of the moonlight. After mention of the moon and moonlight by many of you tonight, when I sit quietly for a bit before crawling under the covers, and look out at a nightscape that is blessed by moonlight, I know I'll now be thinking that this same moon is bestowing it's blessings on all of my Spark buddies too.

Thank you Kat for inspiring me to think about creativity.

Sandra, I'm glad you're getting better, and Azimat, that you're healing....and for all the 'good men' mentioned tonight, I'm grateful too (and so fortunate to have one of them myself!).

Welcome back Dollybabe, and congratulations on the new grandchild and job. We are so blessed, I think, to be part of a child's life.

Tazmomsgal I'm glad your computer problems are being resolved, and things appear a bit more settled for you.

Kathleen...thank you for your "food moderation wagon" notion; I'd love to jump on board (so-so in that department at the moment!)

And, Strlzgrrl, Parker's already got you 'hooked'...he knows he's so very lucky to have you. I am so grateful for you and all the folks who give the homeless dogs and cats of the world new opportunities and the safety they so deserve.

Speaking of which, got some cats to attend to before bed...

Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone!

/Gail

Good to see your posts, AZIMAT AND DOLLYBABE. STLRZGRRL, Parker sounds like a keeper--unfortunately I'm not in the position to have pets at present. I used to have a Standard Schnauzer who was as full of energy as it seems Parker is. I took him to the beach or to the dog run in the park and let him run until he was ready to stop. He could pretty much keep up with Afghan Hounds.

On this misty night I give thanks for:

our Episcopal church members being invited to a Seder--my first; what an spiritual, instructive, and convivial evening

meeting new and appealing people there

my rice salad with roasted red pepper, calamata olives, green onion, and garbanzo beans, dressed with vinaigrette being a hit

the rain and traffic being light as I drove home across town in the dark

the moon, from which I always derive great pleasure and mystical energy

eating five times a day

feeling very relaxed and ready for a peaceful night's sleep

all the good that does exist on our small planet and all the people who do it

the beauty of our natural environment when cared for or left alone, as appropriate.

Peace, joy, and blessings to all,

Michelle

*Waves to Nor*

Hallo! I have been posting early and missed seeing all of you in the evening... You are a REALLY good-looking bunch, you know?!

Tonight I am thankful for the apparently improving intestinal distress of really... truly... a very good dog...

I give Parker a bad rap, I know... but he really has an amazing story... most of which I will never know... but as a stray he was running the streets for a period of time... at least 2 weeks from what the people who had spotted him told the police... and a dog... a house dog... really has no business on his own...

We had a really heavy rainstorm the other night... not thunder... just heavy rain... and Parker began pacing even though we had already gone to bed... a big strapping boxer boy... he was so upset...

I let him jump up into the bed with me... something I rarely allow since I still hold out hope that he might be adopted and I don't want him to get used to rules that might not be in force at his next stop... he leapt up into bed and curled up in the tightest ball next to me... trying to make himself small...

and he shivered.

Trembled like a leaf for 20 minutes or more...

It broke my heart.

I know he was remembering one night or many nights by himself... in the rain... hungry... afraid...

A dog is never the same after living through that...

but he did live. The series of events that brought him into my house happened... and this goofy, perfectly housebroken... obviously obedience trained, purebred, neutered boxer dog whose only vice is that he has SO much energy... had no one looking for him... no collar... no prospects...

I am so thankful... truly I am... that I've been able to give him a second chance.

Something we all deserve.

Goodnight you wonderful people...

On this Tuesday evening, just a few of the many, many things I am grateful for in this life of mine:

- Beautiful weather today
- Being out in this beautiful weather for two hours
- Helping my community while out in this beautiful weather
- More donations rolling in for MS Walk - I'm now ALMOST 70% toward my goal with 2-1/2 weeks left to go
- The gorgeous moon that was out last night, which now reminds me I want to go look again tonight

Have a great evening all -

Hi, Azimat (welcome back!), Dollybabe, and all:

Today I am grateful:

I haven't posted in quite a while, and it's nice to be back

I have so much to be grateful for:
I've just finished another round of intensive dental work, last Tuesday, I was in the dentist's office all day, believe it or not.

But the work is progressing well now, I'm through the hardest parts, we're in the home stretch, and I'm healing well.

I'm grateful for all the professionals who worked on me.

I'm grateful for my dear husband, who sent love coursing through me during the most trying times.

I'm grateful for my supportive friends and family, and that includes you.

Hmmmmmm for some reason, I don't get a refreshed page since posting March 25th! huh....hmmmmmmmm even after choosing reload.
Anyhoooooooo I am thankful for this sunny day birthed while I spark-start my day!
thankful for having taken time last night to outline today
thankful for the richness of thoughts generated by sorting through my very old slides of artwork
thankful for the surprise of seeing both really BAD work, and knowing it, tossing it, and seeing explorations forgotten with tremendous potential
thankful for the excitement borne of realizing that these deserve and I can give them, due justice of expression!
YOU ALL!

Good morning! I'm full of thanks for this, and so much more~~

~ the huge Libra moon on the clear spring night that stood in, mesmerized by its beauty
~ the globe again lighting my bed as I sat down for meditation practice
~ enjoying the end of the black bean chili I made last night with tortillas torn up and submerged in it
~ the most delicious and beautifully-hued pink organic grapefruit that I'm eating this morning
~ finally getting an email this morning with the wonderful moong dhal recipe a California (well really East Indian) friend made for us while visiting

Tonight I give thanks for:

eating breakfast within a half hour of awakening

my energy returning, if slowly

our lovely, changeable weather

the tiny, fan-shaped leaves on my Ginkgo tree emerging from its buds

birds singing outside my office window

giving myself the gift of Feldenkrais

organic chicken breast and braised greens for dinner

the wherewithal to buy quality food

the people who pop up just when I need them.

Peace and blessings,

Michelle

TOnight's Attitude of Gratitude ...

I have spoken to two parents in the last few days who have grown children who are very ill and another whose daughter went through a terrible operation and is now doing well ... and so I will be simple tonight.

I am grateful for the health and safety of my children, my nieces and nephews and my daughter-in-law. All lovely young people who I love very much.

Have a great night, everyone! xoxo

Today, may I make good decisions that create positive outcomes and may I have wonderful, loving people in my life to share this awesome journey with.

Hi, Kali, Stlz, and all:

Today I am grateful:
* for motivation from myself and others.
*for finding a picture of myself (on the Internet, no less) when I was probably at my heaviest and damn, it was scary.
* for the fact that I chose NOT to put on my fat pants today.
* For the fact that I have NOT passed upward into the wrong "decade" of weight (barely).
* that you are all still here...and will probably forgive me for having cried wolf so many times.
* For my intention to get moving in the right direction again.

Be well, everyone.
Kathleen

~pleased that our leader last night asked ME if I would teach others to run the PPT projections (that´s a sign of trust and that he believes I am good at both the technical side AND the teaching side)

*Healthy Reflection:
Your body is one of the most fragile things you need to care for. All too often we allow sickness, stress, and even other people run our lives. It's tough to consistently pursue your goals when you're laid up or constantly fighting illness. Take a preventive approach to your health. By eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, getting plenty of sleep, and dealing with your emotions, you can build and maintain a healthy body that can help you improve other areas of your life!

Feeling embarrassed that I thought tonight was Earth Hour and I missed my opportunity to participate with the rest of the planet, I am still grateful
* For the consciousness of our world increasing, recognizing the need to conserve
* For Wal-Mart (I know I mentioned this before) going green

May the earth be covered with the green of the grass and the fragrance of flowers
* For birthday celebrations with good friends, and making GOOD restaurant choices
* For hubby jumping on board with healthy, clean eating
* For clean sheets, and early bedtime tonight.

Earth Hour is a REAL movement to demand change.
-- Edward Norton

Good morning! What an amazing community -- things like Lynn's ACHIEVEMENTS, Sandra completing another assignment, Kinch's family's musical accomplishments, the eminent college graduation of Noreen's daughter, Sue's obvious glee at a "big date" last night -- "and so on and so on and scooby dooby doo-bee" (Everyday People, Sly and the Family Stone)

Here are some of my blessings today~~

~ after turning out the lights for EarthHour and preparing for meditation practice, I was astounded by the SPOTLIGHT of a moon, shining directly on me through my window, a powerful message about the light within and wihout

~ the solidarity of all the SparkFriends (including my pal STLRZGRRL) who participated, including one who sent this note: "had a tranquil Earth Hour...slowed down, rested, prayed for more sustainable paths for our society...thank you for the reminder!"

~ my home state, California, became an official Earth Hour state, as well as 102 schools, 46 universities, 12 cities, 1 country, 106 organizations and 323 businesses in CA

~ mercy me! I just learned that Arkansas is also one of the 23 official states; Govenor Mike Bebee said, "As we flip the switch at the State Capitol and Governor's Mansion, so too will millions of people in cities and countries around the world. I encourage you to do the same; the measure will physically save energy while publicly demonstrating that we can all aspire to be good stewards of our planet." YAY!

Blessed be!

~ I am thankful for the opportunity of an hour... given by the Earth... to think about the many many many things I am truly thankful for...

~ I am thankful for another day of weekend...

~ I am thankful that I found it in myself to get off my butt and vacuum all three floors yesterday... Man, vacuumed carpets are SO great...

~ I am thankful for TWO weather reports that are independently of each other promising 80 degrees in Mooville this Thursday!!!!

Checking in before this mixed-bag of a day gets out and ahead of me, and grateful for ~

- conditions more often than not conducive to getting outdoors this past week

- TONS of yard and garden work completed or underway

- anticipation...a grove of cherry trees so very much on the verge of bursting into bloom it seems I need only wish it to be and Mother Nature will deliver

- anticipation...noticing a proliferation of flower buds plumping up for what should be a spectacular show from the dogwood this year

- figuring out the repurposing of a copper fire bowl (now that outdoor fires are no longer permitted in our municipality, I'm cleaning it up and turning it into a 'catch basin' in my waterfall garden)

- the day ahead, which despite the rain and high wind warnings, I'll put to good use

And thanks, Stlrzgrrl, but no thanks -- don't need a Parker since I already have a Smokey ("the queen"), a Muffin ("the princess"), and a Pink ("the house elf")...the latter of which just demolished a flower arrangement, leaving the mess -- including a zillion pieces of broken glass -- all over my study floor!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

/Gail

I am SO thankful that Parker-dini, after escaping from his crate, caused NO trouble while roaming around the house on his own all afternoon yesterday... no apparent scuffles with Pickles the Very Good Girl, not too much plant eating, nothing torn apart or ripped up...

perhaps we have had a break-through... (I mean besides the breaking through the steel crate!)

Wow. I'm thinking THIS deserves a gratitude entry ALL on it's own...

Are you sure NONE of you needs a Parker?

Grateful on this stay at home Friday evening
* For nurturing myself all day today...after an incredibly stressful week.
* For finding the perfect jacket at half price, so I will look MAH-VEL-OUS on an interview next week.
* For being able to walk almost two miles today, with only minimal pain afterwards.
* For taking time to watch the Canadian geese on a nearby pond, and share the quiet time with my neighbor
* For the beauty of a butterfly, a variety I'd never seen before
* For having perfect soil to pull all the weeds on the side of our house, on this sunshiney spring day
* For the plumber's assistant, who has worked so diligently to dig the ditch for the gas line, all the while uncovering nothing but cobble, many the size of basket balls!
* For all of you, who are so gracious and supportive.

On this evening, I am thankful for...

~ Getting up and taking our cat Clyde to the vet and then off to pick up more race packs for other Sparkmembers

~ A healthy breakfast at Denny's with my oldest

~ A fun dinner with other SparkPeeps that came into Pittsburgh for the race tomorrow. I can't wait to meet everyone else tomorrow!

This is not a gratitude, but a prayer... I pray that I can fall asleep tonight. I have to wake up by 6AM and I can already feel my fatigue settling in. MS + fatigue do not equal a good first race day.

Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove.
O, no! It is an ever-fixed mark,
That looks on tempests and is never shaken.
It is the star to every wandering bark,
whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
-- William Shakespeare

Good morning (yawn)!

I was naughty and stayed up late...because I COULD! Up-and-at-'em now, thankful for so much, including~~

~ the delightful 1993 love story, Benny and Joon, with my heart throb, Johnny Depp

~ the wonderful sound track from Benny and Joon

~ ESPECIALLY the featured "I'm Gonna' Be" by the Scottish group The Proclaimers www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oY5tSxv4oU&
NR

-- LOVED IT!

~ AND for this wonderful YouTube collage of the lovely film, with another favorite, "Have a Little Faith in Me," John Hiatt www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bk8JIMDSj8Q

~ and finally, for the delicious and ritualistically-comforting cup of dark roast organic Sumatra I'm enjoying as I recall the sweet love story

Blessed be!

Grateful tonight for a lazy day, reading and computer time while listening to the rain fall outside. Amazed to see some clear sky now amidst the clouds, and s a beautiful peach glow on the horizon as the sun sets.

Grateful for the presence of all of you here, the inspiration you provide -- and also your sharing of trials and tribulations, successes and celebrations of your lives. I have learned so much and enjoyed so much with all of you!

Have a fabulous Friday everyone!

/Gail

Today, may I make good decisions that create positive outcomes and may I have wonderful, loving people in my life to share this awesome journey with.

This evening I am grateful for:

Elaine taking the time to add a comment on my Spark Page and sharing a library experience with me

making a decision about something I've been pondering awhile and feeling I made the right choice

blackeye peas and collard greens

the incredible resource the internet is as long as one uses judicious judgment

writing in my journal

eating breakfast within a half hour of getting up

my ability to adapt and change

the support and encouragement of friends

these lovely spring evenings.

Peace, joy, and blessings to all,

Michelle

- An easier week at work, making it easier to deal with this tooth
- A week's worth of antibiotics dealt with so they can yank this abscessed baby TOMORROW!!!!!
- A nice lunch scheduled with a friend just prior to tooth yanking (at my favorite French restaurant) - it might be a few days before I eat solid food again
- My partner taking her nearly last trip to her home town yesterday to meet with the lawyer, the bank, etc. and is almost totally done dealing with her parent's estate
- My little sister sending a very generous donation to the MS Walk in honor of my partner

- The sunshine today after several days of rain - my spirits are better already!

Have a great evening everybody -
