Better late than never ....

The blue full moon/New Year Eve was a roller coaster of emotions for me as I went from celebrating with my team to comforting my oldest and his wife as they mourned the loss of their dog Steeler. I wasn't sure I could even do gratitude's and what this mix of emotions meant. My Sweetheart and I had an at-home romantic evening capped off by a foggy hike in the woods sans the blue moon and watched our dogs frolic in the weeds and the sweetness of life revealed itself in every way ...

My Attitude of Gratitude upon leaving 2009 ....

My Sweetheart - for celebrating 25 years, for the challenges, for the sweetness and for new understanding and maturity about what it means to be partnered with someone for the long haul. I am especially grateful for the wonderful man that he is and his gift of being able to love me even when I'm not so lovable.

My beautiful children - all grown up, yet in so many ways forever connected, that they still call me during their darkest moments and by some major miracle, I am able to comfort them. I am especially grateful and my heart tugs and swells at what wonderful people they have become

My challenges - Motherhood was not the path I was on when my life changed drastically and unexpectedly (although it saved my life) in the summer of 1980 and I hung on for dear life through two pregnancies, a divorce, remarriage, another pregnancy and the raising of these three special beings as well as the blending of these two families. 29 years later, 2009 blessed me with releasing on many of the emotions that I stuffed away

My family - for the unusual bonds we share through our family and family business. Beginning with the fall of 2008 until today, we were in for unprecedented anxiety about the economy and our ability to survive and thrive. Today, our newest team crushed their 8 week goal and were up 17.6 % for the month of December and will receive their first bonus. For our older teams who have buoyed our efforts, for our customers new and old who have continued to stay loyal, for the opportunity to head such an eclectic group of souls, for being self-employed, for my parents who started it all, I cannot believe how blessed I am

For Sparkspeople and all of you - being on this path to wellness, all that I have learned, all that I have aspired to, the serendipity of lurking around Maha's page and finding the gratitude attitude, I am blown away by the hand that has lifted me up out of the pit of despair and depression

For all the other synchronicity that has brought me to today - the authors I have read, the music I have listened to, the people I have met, the classes I have attended, the challenges that have made me stronger and wiser and the ability to process and release ... thank you Universe, thank you

Edited by: NORLANA at: 1/1/2010 (06:41)
Today, may I make good decisions that create positive outcomes and may I have wonderful, loving people in my life to share this awesome journey with.

During these last few hours of 2009 (in Arizona), I give thanks for:

a Moon Child's special connection to all phases of the moon and the import of a full Blue Moon on the last day of this decade

the amazing music of "Live from Lincoln Center" tonight

my wise and witty doctors who have, each in his (I am an equal-opportunity employer--they just happen to be men) own way, saved my life over the last eight or so years

Norman, especially, who will always reside with all my other graces in a special part of my heart

Robert, a friend who has so enriched my life

my love of words and writing

my mother, who taught me the alphabet and how to read long before I entered a classroom

my mother, who taught me the love of cooking and fresh food, especially vegetables

my father, who valued books, discussion, and debate and taught me how to juggle all three

my father, who taught me to always be there for those you love, even when you're cross with them

a certain fierceness learned from both my parents

the life I've been given

Dragonfly (Gail, what can it say!)

And so many Spark friends--Elaine, Sherrie, AT, Maha, Kathleen, Connie, and others--who have changed my life in ways I couldn't have anticipated

Peace, love, and blessings to you all,

Michelle

Looking back on my gratitudes for 2009...

~ Starting on January 4th with the New YOU Bootcamp, I went from well over 200lbs to my now 148lbs and then having the courage to get my reward tattoo that I've wanted for years!

~ Having no MS relapses this year!!!!!

~ Having more strength, balance & cognitive abilities than I have in years (A gratitude must be included to my MS neurologist who told me this!)

~ An amazing bond with TEE this year. We are closer than we have ever been:D

~ That my baby sis survived Jimmy & that drama, a crappy boyfriend or 2, her oldest daughter, drunken ex, a beloved boss that quit and a divorce while losing over 50lbs and STAYING CLEAN!!!!!!!!

~ Joining the YMCA and learning all kinds of new activities and meeting so many wonderful people

~ Being closer to my hubby than I've been in many, many years

~ Making our son's old room into my favorite spot in the house... my workout/sewing room:D And then getting an elliptical for Christmas!

~ And a HUGE surprise today: buying a 2010 Ford Focus so that my daughter could take my Neon back to college as she begins her first field work. My jaw is still dropped.

~ And last, but certainly NOT least... all of you and this community! I honestly have changed inside. And all because my sister's computer went dead and I had to post here for her. Life can work out so unexpectedly!

A Happy, Healthy 2010 to all!

Have patience with all things, but chiefly have patience with yourself. Do not lose courage in considering your own imperfections but instantly set about remedying them – every day begin the task anew.
-- Saint Francis de Sales

Good morning! It's oh-so-lovely to post here among my dear Thanksgiving Community friends instead of in my journal. And on this momentous day, heralding not only a new year, but also a new decade, I'm filled with gratitude ~~

~ Kathy picked me up at Amtrak yesterday and we're having a good ol' time -- YAY!!!!!!! Tonight we're partying and tomorrow again...more festivities.

~ Full Moon on New Year's Eve! That hasn't happened since 1971. And it's a lunar eclipse - visible on the other side of the world where it's dark at the full moon hour. And it's a 'once in a Blue Moon' - meaning there are two full moons in this month - Dec 1st and Dec 31st, and if that isn't enough energy and focus to elevate all to their highest selves, it's also a SuperMoon meaning closest to the Earth and with all three, Sun, Moon, Earth in alignment (syzygy). An intensification like this deserves to be put to the highest purpose we can muster.

~ I'm healthy, content, and have relative control of my life as I enter 2010

~ I've had a wonderful time with friends in San Francisco (and environs) and NOW I'm loving being with my Sacra-tomato dear hearts

~ I enjoyed meeting Babyface and having a lovely time in a local haunt of hers -- a fantastic French bakery.

*******************

And as proof positive that we are really here together, I am sharing some of MY gratitides on the same post.

* For safe travels...not just for Maha, but for all of you and your families during this busy season
* For actually being able to type today!
* For the symbolism attached to the turn of the clock tonight...the changing of the year...the hope alive in all of us.
* My the abundance of material blessings in my life
* For my sister, who made genuine attempts to close a gap of communication this year.
* For good coffee and early morning laughter

This last day of this challenging year, I am grateful for:
-the realization and the acceptance of ongoing changes needed to keep moving forward
-the ability to see what I may try because of the above gifts
-the support and love of those around me no matter what
-this day, grey as it is, tears from heaven growing roots the better to push out blossoming shoots
-recognizing my kinship with Nature, in all ways
-the gift of my family
-the Gift of Life
-the Gift of Grace which I do not own, but which is bestowed upon me, and from which I benefit when I am open to it.
Have a great day and see yall in the new year!

As 2009 draws to a close, I am grateful for

- MJ finding her way to this team
- thus far, a relatively mild winter, and opportunity to be outside almost every day
- a calmer, less stressful day
- a family day tomorrow
- two unexpected 'friend' requests on Facebook, one from a former university colleague and one from an old high school teacher
- relief from a nasty headache and troublesome toothache
- laundry done
- having the fortitude to pass on the three trays of pastries my husband brought home today -- pumpkin tarts, pecan tarts, and a pecan and cranberry torte (they were marked down to clear and he couldn't resist...darn him anyway...scrawny man that he is, he can afford to eat what I cannot!)
- lovely e-mail message and phone call from my mother-in-law, including advice that she and her husband want us to plan a trip with them and they'll pay most of our expenses (she says, "we can't take it with us, and we want to do things with all of you before we're gone...")
- cats playing with bouncy balls
- encouragement
- Perrier water
- a new CD by a local performer that plays just about the best blues I've ever heard
- the extraordinary family calendar my sister-in-law made for everyone this year (even put face photos in the squares for everyone's birthdays, and wedding pics of everyone's anniversaries!)
- the good vibes all over this ThanksGiving community!

Have a perfect New Year's Eve everyone!

~ tomorrows "once in a blue moon" full moon anticipation and my siblings and I planning a cross country toast to our Dad who had a special zeal for constellations and nature

~ convenience of scale to measure, crock pot for ready made meals, steamer for veggies and brown rice and for the new magic bullet I bought myself for Christmas and the yummy peanut butter, chocolate, strawberry smoothie I just had

~ for mindful eating, exercise and proper hydration today and taking excellent care of me!

~ that my team crushed their quarterly goal today and the huge celebration we have planned for tomorrow AM ... so exciting!! :)

On this Wednesday evening, a few of my gratitudes:

1. My teammates being very pleased with my first work done with them;
2. Fitness instructor at my workplace reiterating that I need to NOT exercise right now since I have both bronchitis and a sinus infection (darnit - the mind is ready and wanting to go);
3. More lessons in patience, not my strong suit;
4. A good jump on the remainder of my assignments for the week;
5. Work going quite well this week, with surprise amounts of productivity and surprises in general.

Have a great evening!

Today I am grateful
-that I know I need to count my blessings every day!
-that I know I HAVE many blessings every day no matter how I think I feel
-that my foot seems to be mending and
-that I realize my impatience in "MOVING" is leading me where I do not need to go!
-that I have the choice to GO there or NOT
-for the lessons I have learned from those who have passed on during this season over the years
-and that I can choose to see the hidden gifts behind the losses and pain while also owning all of it.
-for all of you, all your thanks shared, that act to buoy me up, little bubbles of positivity!

Hello lovelies,
Mary Ann, I got a crockpot for Christmas, but haven't tried to use it yet. Excited, though!

* I am so, so grateful this morning to have made it home safely last night, after 15 hours of driving in snow, with car trouble.

* I am grateful for my mom's house which is always beautiful and spotless and organized (a lovely retreat), and for my own house, which is a wild, happy mess of what mom would call "Bohemianism".

* I am grateful for a new level of closeness with a long-time friend

* And I am grateful for a snuggly girlfriend still asleep in our bed.

Tonight I am grateful for:

getting to sleep in this morning after several hours of wakefulness--tossing and turning during much of the night

finally becoming patient enough to evaluate various medical insurance plans online

enjoying gray, low sixties, winter weather today in Arizona, because, after all, I'm from San Francisco

being able to stay in touch with Spark and Spark friends on the internet no matter where I am physically

allowing myself to eat when I want as much as I want, even though my Dad's wife comments that I should eat more, more often

truly understanding that for me the key to weight loss is regular exercise; my eating is pretty much under control, but I have the metabolism of a grape

the hope of the new year--a symbolic, though nonetheless important, fresh start

love, that truly can change everything

the universe that made me the me I am

Peace and blessings,

On this Monday evening, a few of my gratitudes:

1. Getting in to the doctor today - good thing, because I have a sinus infection AND bronchitis;
2. Less stressful work week this week, even though I do really need to be there, despite being ill;
3. Getting prescriptions filled at Costco and getting end-of-year flex spending on OTCs done while waiting;
4. The Christmas dinner that wasn't that lives on forever - LOL (long story);
5. Being able to be gentle with myself because I really WANT to exercise, but know realistically that I need to cool it for a few more days until I feel better - so I've been sticking to things like wall pushups and lunges, etc., all in very short doses.

Such a busy time of year, so it must have been meant to be that I slept in this morning...and for that I am grateful as I scan the horizon on what looks to be another busy day.

I'm grateful for
- feral cats content to remain with us
- the occasional clusters of snowflakes that drift from the sky (nothing significant in the forecast, but it's trying...)
- son #1 reconnecting with old friends last night
- everything that grows
- good books and magazines to read
- good music to listen to
- knowing it will be easier to find time to read when January comes round
- the comparatively mild and dry winter we're experiencing
- meditation time

Off to greet what remains of the day!

Breaking all rules and using the computer but had to drop in and say hi...and just mention a few of the many things I am grateful for
* Christmas spent with my family of origin.
* Being able to visit my mom and have her shout my name the minute she saw me
* My neice in England giving birth at 6:20 a.m. on the 25th, gifting our family with a healthy Christmas boy
* Hubby coming to church with me and hearing the most amazing sermon...casting a whole new perspective on the Christmas story
* The calm after the storm...all the chaos behind us. Just hubby and my dad left to ease out of the activities that took place here all week
* Lots of meal sized leftovers packed and frozen for my dad
* Ability to function fairly well, despite the "appliances" attached to my body
* Getting to preboard once again tomorrow on our flight home...whoo hoo! (gotta look at the bright side)
* Hubby giving credit to the habit of posting daily gratitudes, which has enabled me to see (most of the time) the good things in my current mess of a situation!

See you all again in a week or so!

Tonight I am grateful for...

~ Sleeping in this morning. I feel like I could have slept most of the day.

~ Staying in my jammies all day til I had to go out after dinner:D

~ Hubby building my new gift of an elliptical for me then helping me make it fit in "my" room

~ Having leftovers for lunch & dinner. No cooking!

~ Finally feeling peppy enough to use my new elliptical:D

Today, may I make good decisions that create positive outcomes and may I have wonderful, loving people in my life to share this awesome journey with.

On this very snowy, wintry day, a few of my gratitudes:

1. Beautiful snow, nearing a foot now, and just the way I like it - big flakes and being able to watch it from inside my warm home;
2. Low calorie banana muffins I baked yesterday (another favorite of mine during snowstorms - baking), that also used up 3 bananas that were at the perfect stage for baking - dark brown!!! LOL;
3. Having plenty of healthy food choices and basic necessities without being forced to go out in the weather;
4. That I am basically FEELING OK, despite still running a bit of a temperature and nasty cough;
5. NCIS marathon which helps promote me getting some extra time in bed (I don't usually lay down too easily for long during the day);
6. Nice call from my sister Christmas evening; and
7. My wonderful and amazing partner and one of the nicest Christmas times we've ever shared!

Have a great day all -

Stephanie
