So much easier to Mcdougall when the garden is your grocery store! Eating squash, onion, garlic, peas, at this time! Yesterday, I put up a couple quarts of squash in the freezer for the winter.

Have you tried to get a little sunshine on your face first thing in the morning to help wake you up? A little Vitamin D and fresh air do wonders for starting the day.

Another team has been suggested for me to join. This theme seemed more appropriate for me, but without hearing from others, it really is not a team.

Without the sharing I hoped for with this team, I am glad for Youtube and also will now check out the diary of my (one other) teammate on another site.

I like this program and have confidence in Dr. McDougall but I may drop this team if things do not pick up by the end of this month.

I read some of your notes on the site you gave me. With only having a desktop computer I spent more of my time listening toYoutube for inspiration from Dr. McDougall and others because I can get inspired from my lounge chair. I will probably seek inspiration from both sources today after samplings at a Christmas dinner last evening for our senior community. Good grocery shopping yesterday to do a restart.

I've been back McDougall'ing for a few days or so now ... going great! ENJOYING FOOD again without worrying so much! This morning had a filling bowl of whole oats with banana, raisins, walnuts, ground flaxseed and cinnamon... yummy! Remarkably we're chilly here today so going to take advantage (it's not chilly in Hawaii very often - ha!) and fix some really good veggie soup and cornbread and maybe a salad on the side. Trying lots of new recipes too - having fun with it all!

I like the fact that is ok to use frozen veggies and canned beans. I never see any of the McDougall brands in my area but there are others that do not have fat and sugar or high salt. Plan to try several of the bean and pasta recipes this week.

Hi,
I love my McDougall Q&E Cookbook! So far I've tried: Succotash Soup, Hearty White Bean Soup, White Bean Soup, Spicy Lentil Soup, Lima Bean Stew, Bean & Rice Gumbo, Vegetable Grain Casserole, Bean Surprise, Black-eyed Pea Scramble, Italian Bean Medley, Quick Spicy Lentil Chili, Beans & Things, Pasta with Chili Sauce, Summer Fettuccine, Polenta with Italian Bean Sauce, Cuban Potatoes, White Bean Pate and more. These are the recipes that I would try again because I liked them. There were a few that I didn't like, but someone else might enjoy them.

Enjoy your new cookbook! Sandy

Hello, I just joined the group, have been vegan for almost 2 years to hopefully reverse some artery blockage so I'm on the diet to stay. Although I don't officially eat McDougall I think I do pretty close. I've been off SparkPeople for a while after I met my goal weight but am back now looking for more inspiration, especially to get exercising more. I hope this group is active.

Hey team

Sorry I haven’t been around, I lost a very close friend of 30 years unexpectedly and and I then had to move to be with family, so here I am doing frunerals, talking to piano students, dealing with my friends family, packing for the big move in 90 degree weather. It took 3 days and 6 states in a big huge moving truck to get from Kansas to Oregon.

And then I just didn’t have any motivation to go on but I’m going to try to come more may not be every day but most days.

So now I’m living with my parents, have a teaching job, teach my nephew at the piano and I’m taking piano lessons. And helping brother paint a house so lm off to exercise and practice.

Feeling so much better since I went back on the program. I wish that this good feeling of having energy and feeling healthy were enough to keep me on track. Maybe getting off more of my meds will do it for me; we'll see!

Well, I'm back on track as of this week, and as you mentioned, you would think that feeling this much better would keep me doing it! I guess fat and refined sugars are just a really hard thing to avoid for long periods of time. I'll keep trying, though. It's worth it to me.

Back in the 90's, after my son was born I lost about 20 pounds and kept it off for years. I was following Dr McDougall's plan. I started eating more animal products and put the weight back on. It is much harder to take off and get back on track. I agree, I too feel so much better. You would that alone would keep me on track.

I've been McDougalling on and off since the '80s. To be honest, I don't usually last more than a few months on it, but I feel so much better when I eat this way, that I keep trying to find ways to fit it into my life.

Sounds like you are very well prepared. I need to restock my fridge. I had rice and vegetable soup on hand but they have since been eaten. I'm having a veggie burger for dinner, vegetable soup for lunch. I made a pot of steel cut oats for me and hubby which will last for a few days.

How long have you been following a plant based diet. I have been transitioning back on this, I let peer pressure derail me in the past. I am doing this more for health this time.

Have a great day!

You, too! This team is always an ecouragement to me, as well.

Today, I am prepping for the week. I made a big pot of curried lentils, which I love. Next, I'll cook up some brown rice to have on hand, and I plan to also make a big batch of hummus. I already have some vegan non-fat "cheese spread" in the fridge. Those convenient, healthy foods should help for when I just want to grab something RIGHT NOW.

Hey there New-team-to-me emoticon s! It took me over a week to find you! I 1st tried the SP team search, which did not help. Happened upon the team this morning and am so pleased!

Two weeks ago, I watched Chef AJ share her amazing life journery at a McDougall Conference. I've listened to her before & in the past 4 years (that's how long I've been vegan eating; 2 yrs vegetarian before that). Also have read some of the McDougalls website & watched a lot of videos. But this last one convinced me to jump onboard! I have mainly started the McDougall plan and am over halfway through his book, The McDougall Program for Maximum Weightloss. I say "mainly" because for the last week, I've been eating some seeds, nuts, and a little oil. After immediately losing 2k (about 5 lbs), I've stayed the same. I know I must go further if I'm going to give the plan a true trial.

I am a U.S. citizen having lived in Brazil as a missionary for the past 40 years with my husband of 44 years. Our children have moved on and are living their own lives and we get to see them rarely but stay in touch via internet and phone. I completed my bachelor's in management 10 years ago, then my Masters in Human Services (Marriage & Family) 3 years ago, followed by Life Coach certification. Amidst the work, I am continuing my education (I guess I am a perpetual student!) and plan to receive certification with the John Maxwell Team in August. I love what I do! One of my greatest delights is seeing the light come on in a client's eyes and she begins to dream of possibilities again!

I have been a SparkPerson since 2006 and continue searching for answers to my weightloss challenge. Have tried many different angles and have high hopes for this one. I've always been one to try a new plan out for 3-6 months so I know for sure if it is working. Some do for a while but none have gotten me back to the weight I want. Dr. McDougall's starchbased eating plan seems to fit me well and already I have seen positives, like satiety, which is a BIG deal!!! I have not felt that with any other plan.

Hi,
I am a 85year old vegetarian. I have been veggie for 50 years. I like to follow Dr.Neal Bernard from his book "Eat Right Live Longer",which I bought at a Seminar in 1995. My health is good, my weight is good for height, so guess this style of eating really works.
I have been a member of Spark People for several years. I enjoy reading all of your messages and recipes. Keep up the good work.

Gill- well I will find out!
Today is emoticon of a fortnight of fingerlings and other potato things..
well just potatoes-naked- the potatoes (for the most part lol)

I had yams for breakfast.
did 20 min of yoga and had white tea after
These are steps for me in the right direction because no salt or oil or sugar and no big cup of coffee.

On this do get to eat when I am hungry but I am watching to see what "hungry" really means.
I like your menu!

Re-visiting the McDougall website gave me fresh ideas yesterday.

I had baked potato with spicy beans & lovely steamed greens yesterday.
Today's lunch is diced potatoes baked with fajita spices, steamed greens, sauteed mushrooms (soy sauce, vinegar, water)

Feeling good - not totally fat-free, but low-fat. I do find that eating potatoes raises my blood sugar and I feel hungry sooner than if I don't eat potatoes. Anyone else find that?

Gill
