One is tempted to not trust God when evil events with lost of life occur as in those events of August 12 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Odd thing is that I went to church today and no mention was made of yesterdays events. Yet after church I noted that a member of this team had suggested that we need more action in this team. In looking for inspiration I put a Joyce Meyer CD on titled "Choosing to trust God". I did not listen to this Cd before, I had left it unopened in its package. But it seemed so pertinent to yesterday's events as soon as I listened to it.
When evil shows up, one may be tempted to respond with anger; but, Psalm 37:1-3 reads "Do not fret because of evil men, or be envious of those who do wrong, for like the grass they will soon wither, like the green plants they will soon die away. Trust in the lord and do good, dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture." The CD goes on to note that God urges us to not fight evil with evil but to respond to evil by doing good.
How can we best respond to the evil of yesterday? If we have trust in God and pray with an open mind, the answer will center around doing good. What ideas for doing good, in response to those who act hatefully, do you have? Should we have just ignored those with hateful words and done our good works in a different but safe venue? Might not there be no lost of life if no counter protesters showed up to challenge the evil ones? Does fighting evil change the way of the evil ones? Instead, might the evil ones become more hardened and even gain support?
What are your thoughts?
