Thank you Brenda. It helps to know others are in the same position. I am thinking more about speaking out the word like Joyce keeps telling us. We'll see how that goes. All the best!

I totally understand how yoy feel, but that is one of my main problems of going by how I feel. The devil loves to lie to us and make us feel less than we are. We must remember that we were specially made from God for a purpose, and I often have to remind myself of that many times just to get through the day. I fight anxiety and depression every day, but I know inmy heart that is not what God wants, and Ioften feel sinful for being depressd - kind of a vicious circle. I have no close friends as i get anxious whenever I go out, but i am working on it and trying to be more mindful of my thoughts. I just received joyce's ne book How yo get beyond your feelings, and I can't wait to get started!

Thanks for writing, and I hope in some small way I have helped you.

Brenda

I am trying to process this post. It makes sense mentally but in my heart I am still struggling with self-rejection. I am so glad Joyce brings this topic up and reminds us all of how far she's come. It gives me hope and faith that I can do the same. I am looking for ways to love myself in a godly balanced way. I do the whole shopping, bubble bath, read a magazine thing but most of the time I still feel unsettled. I've brought it before God so many times and although I am gradually changing, I still have a long way to go (But as Joyce says, thank goodness I am not where I used to be!) Any advice you ladies could offer would be so helpful to me and I'm sure many people who are reading this topic. Feel free to message me too! I love making new friends :)

So many of us that have had weight issues can relate to this. I hated my body for so many years-hips that were too wide, thighs that were too big, feet that were too long and a crooked back. It finally dawned on me as I began my Christian journey that I had to be thankful for my body. These hips have born 4 wonderful boys. My thighs and feet carry me wherever I need to go and more. And my crooked back? It still keeps me standing tall. No more self-hatred for this girl.

Wow!! That really spoke to me. Thank you for posting. I think what spoke to me most is the statement....We must develop the kind of mature love that says, I know I need to change, and I want to change. In fact, I believe God is changing me daily, but during this process, I will not reject what God accepts. I'll accept myself as I am right now, knowing that I will not always remain this way.

Amen to that!!

Yolanda

Do you like yourself? After years of trying to help people emotionally, mentally, spiritually and socially, it was a major breakthrough when I discovered that most people really donÕt like themselves. Some of them know it, while others donÕt even have a clue that this is probably the root of so many other problems in their lives.

God wants us to have great relationships, but self-rejection and even self-hatred are the roots of many relationship problems. In fact, IÕve found the Bible to be a book about relationships, providing valuable advice about my relationship with God, other people and even myself.

How are the relationships with other people in your life? What about your relationship with GodÉand even with yourself?

Did it ever occur to you that you have a relationship with yourself? While IÕve never given it much thought, I spend more time with myself than with anyone, and itÕs vital to get along well with me. Remember, you are the one person you never get away from.

We all know how agonizing it is to work day after day with someone we donÕt get along with, but at least that person doesnÕt come home with us at night. We canÕt get away from ourselves, not even for one second, so itÕs of the utmost importance that we have peace with ourselves.

Many of us fall prey to self-rejection because we feel that nobody really loves us or accepts us. We figure that if nobody else loves us, then why should we love ourselves? Because we think others donÕt love us, we feel that we must not be worth loving. But thatÕs a LIE weÕve believed for way too long!

We should love ourselvesÑnot in a selfish, self-centered way that produces a lifestyle of self-indulgence, but in a balanced, godly way that affirms GodÕs creation as essentially good and right. We may be flawed by unfortunate experiences weÕve gone through, but that doesnÕt mean weÕre worthless and good-for-nothing.

We must have the kind of love for ourselves that says, ÒI know God loves me, so I can love what God chooses to love. I donÕt love everything I do, but I accept myself because God accepts me.Ó We must develop the kind of mature love that says, ÒI know I need to change, and I want to change. In fact, I believe God is changing me daily, but during this process, I will not reject what God accepts. IÕll accept myself as I am right now, knowing that I will not always remain this way.Ó

Many times people who reject themselves do so because they canÕt see themselves as good, proper, or right. They fail to see themselves the way God sees themÑas precious children He dearly loves.

As you begin to see yourself through GodÕs eyesÑsomeone whoÕs loved and cherishedÑyour view of yourself will begin to change. YouÕll begin to see yourself not as rejected, but as loved and acceptedÉunique and beautiful in His sight.
