emoticon Hi Teach4110 and all! I'm sure we're here. Sometimes life runs away with our time and we have to chase it down. LOL

Anway, without usurping anyone's authority, I feel led to go ahead and offer my response to chpt. 2, so here it is.

I've read Joyce's little chapter, "A Vital Necessity" and find that it needs to be the the first stone we step up on. While chpt. 1 was meant to get our minds ready for what was coming, chpt. 2 is the foundation.

"You cannot have a positive life and a negative mind," says Joyce. The spirit and the flesh are at war. Many things in our past influence our lives. Many have suffered in the past, but we can't use that as an excuse to stay in that attitude and mindset. 1 Cor. 10:13 says..."The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure."

I need to believe this verse and act upon it everyday. I need to remember the Lord is there for me. He is the victor and I am on His side! (Many times I hear that He is on our side, but when I think about it, that's not right... I need to be on HIS side!) So, I'm striving to become more aware of this battle that goes on in my mind. I know I need to banish thoughts that depress me or make me mad, whether its of the present or from the past. As I look at my relationships with others, I know I need to determine what part I play in making it better or worse.

Basically, I think we all need to become more aware of what we are thinking and why. As we ponder this, we need to ask the Holy Spirit to help us to become stronger and more courageous in our daily walk. I know that's just one of the things I need to do...

That's my take on the topic, what's yours?

Monicat...The Joyce Meyer bible is called 'The Everyday Life Bible' and it is Amplified Version. I really like it a lot :) Throughout the bible she has 'extras' called Life Points and Putting the Word to Work that I love to read as well :)

emoticon for JENNA3FROG... I noticed way down the posts here that you have a Joyce Meyer Bible. Could you elaborate on what it is, I mean like NKJV or Amplified or is it somehthing entirely different? BTW, sometimes I have to play catch up... I'm grateful we can always go back and reread previous posts...

Another question... Emily... do you have a certain day that you will post your insights on the chapters. If I do miss some of the posts, I want to be sure to see your main one. Please let me know...

Thanks a bunch...

Good Morning All,
Quiet week on this board. Hope everyone is well. I had an AWESOME day yesterday. I really listened to Joyce and everytime I heard a nasty or unkind remark in my head...I scolded Satan and told him to GET OUT! Now, I have NEVER done anything like that before...never. I had (like it is ME! HA!) total control over my eating, avoided all kinds of candy, felt confident during my evaluation conference with my boss, admitted I had done something I shouldn't have...totally came clean, felt good and am continuing to kick Satan's butt.

Satan...you are not welcome here. I am lovable and capable, a child of the most high God so...step away. I have no need for you to be putting thoughts of weakness, laziness and fear in my head. Be gone!

I am ready to have an awesome day!

Hello All,
I have been giving in to Satan and his false words that food can soothe and protect me. I know those are lies but I fall for them every time. This dang Halloween candy gets me started and then...I just fall apart.

Dear Lord,
Please help me and all of my friends who battle with Satan's lies. Please help us to come to rely on you more faithfully and reject Satan and his many temptations. Lord, please give us strength, knowledge, wisdom and patience to resist and become more obedient to you.
Amen.

Have a GREAT day everyone!

I'm going to try to throw in some more pertinent to the "actual chapters" discussion here soon. I'm just bursting to say what a "God-incidence" the timing of this discussion group is first! (Did that make any sense to anyone but me?)

My husband and I co-lead a small group at our church. My best friend is in our small group, and has told me for ages how much finding Joyce Meyer on TV and then reading Battlefield helped her so much when she was so depressed and suicidal. So then I started watching Joyce. I found a copy of Battlefield in a "free box" of books at the library about a month ago or so. I just got a chance to start reading it about the time I found this group.

Plus, our small group is just coming to the end of the study we're doing. Another member heard Roxanne and I talking about Battlefield, and said - "Oh, I have have the four session DVD to that; would you like to borrow it?" So not only did Roxanne borrow it, but our small group is using it for the next 4 weeks for our study! All at the same time that you decided to do a discussion on it here on this group! Is God trying to soak me in this or what?! And oh, do I need it!

Sorry for such a long post, but I was so excited about this - and I wanted to affirm Emily for choosing to do this. emoticon

Interesting stuff. Joyce has a job and she never (at least not that I've heard) says that women must stay home. I think she teaches the opposite of that. But she does say that if she & Dave have a disagreement that she goes along with him. Which I think is VERY interesting.

I think that my husband and I are pretty much equal partners. Wonder if he would agree!! Ha ha!!!

I completely agree with you! I think it's a little old fashioned to believe a man is gonna "run" a household. I, as mom and wife, run ours. It's just the way it is today. I also don't believe a woman should just be expected to stay home. Ugh. I have a big one with that one. I have a career and it's just as important as his in the military. There's no way I'd just let me go. Ive made that mistake before and turned out so depressed I almost lost it lol. Satam is always standing by my mind just waiting for the chance to get in. It's a constant struggles but I'm still here.

I started reading the book again today and made it through 4 chapters. I know the chapters are short but I am stopping now to soak it in.

Page 16 grabbed me first: 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
This scripture was read a few times then hi-lited. It's a good stepping off point. Also the summary that starts on this page is worth coping and posting somewhere where i will see it often.

I do not wholly agree with "John's side", p.21 with him running the finances, the children and the household instead of his wife. Times have changed and a somewhat equal partnership is best for the health of the family.

I had some of the same experiences growing up as did both John and Mary so the dynamic here is easy to grasp.

One line on P. 25 sums it up for me: "Satan knows well that if he can control our thoughts, he can control our actions." We must not let negative thoughts run amuck in our minds. It poisons everything else. Give it to the Lord. It's really difficult sometimes, but I always try to do just that.

What are your thoughts? Do you agree or disagree? I would love your input! emoticon

I sometimes have a hard time believing that God loves me and is on my side. Sometimes I believe it totally...other times, not so much. Sometimes I also think....geez there are so many IMPORTANT things going on in the world, why the heck should God care that I'm 35lbs overweight. Is that really the biggest thing in the world? Guess I don't feel worthy. Don't feel deserving. "I am lovable and capable a child of the most high God." and breathe....

I also bought the Battlefield Devotional. 100 insights...Prayer # 1 " Victorious God, help me resist the onslaughts of Satan, who attacks my mind and makes evil seem good. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ." Amen

Amen to all:-)

MTP717 Thanks for the links... it's always nice to be able to refer back to inspirational messages and sites. emoticon

As far as chapter one of BF goes, I think we all have to identify just what our strongholds, that Satan has us wrapped up in, exactly are. I've been listening to Breaking Ungodly Soul-ties by John Kilpatrick and it's very interesting how we so often take for granted things that have happened to us in our lives. We often have created ungodly soul-ties through abusive relationships and don't even realize it. We've learned to adapt. Throughout our lives we react the same way, but often we feel trapped, unhappy and unloved. God sent Jesus to redeem us from all of that. The first step after salvation is the hardest and that is breaking away from ungodly (unhealthy) soul-ties. Sometimes we have catered to authourity figures very passively and God reveals that we are to stand and let Him do the work. (This was the turning point for me.) We often try to change things around us only to find that the situations get worse. Although I don't always do the things I know I must do~ the reality is that I've learned to meditate on God's word and seek His guidance in dealing with bondages. If we are held down by rejection, abuse or neglect--we can be freed from it all. (My past no longer haunts me but is a reminder that others suffer much like I have.) Reading, believing and speaking His word out loud are the beginning acts of the battle for me. Everyday we must remember that we have an enemy and be aware that he is trying to sneak up on us and attack in any way possible. We need to be ready and realize it. (We also need to help others to realize it as well.)

Colossians 3:2 Set your mind and keep it set on what is above (high things), not on low earthly things. (We can do this!)

Blessings to all. Thanks again, Emily.

I don't know if anyone would like this but it's just a suggestion. I bought the Joyce Meyer bible about a month and a half ago and it's awesome. She has a lot of individual messges in it that help. I think I paid 30.00 for it at Walmart. I know kind of expensive but so worth it if you have the money to spare one day.

MONICAT, It was last year when I downloaded it from the TV podcast and it's saved on my computer. But I googled it after reading your post and you can find the file on her website here:

And you can also find more related articles from her about BF on her website:

Now I must go find my BF book this weekend so I can catch up with all of you.

Yes, EWYLIE30, I'm one of those shy lurkers who occasionally posts when reading the Daily Devotions from Joyce (Thank you BEANYGIRL)and most recently when I saw there might be a discussion on BF.

I really enjoyed reading them as I sometimes missed the program or forgot to TiVo or it was no longer on her site.

emoticon Yes, this is great... I've seen lots of new posters, too. Just thought I'd add to MTP717~~ if the PDF is still available and has a URL address, you can copy and paste it using the "add a link" button right here on the comment entry. All you have to do is copy the address from the site in the address bar, come back to this comment box, click the "add a link" button, paste in the address and you're set to go. Hope this helps... I don't know a lot about computers but I messed around with this until I was able to do it. LOL, (speaking of myself) I guess we're never too old to learn! Take care everyone... hope you have a restful night and a great weekend! emoticon

emoticon Thanks for that! I see the group already way more active and I see people talking who I have NEVER seen respond so that's awesome! It's becoming more of a place for all people.. not just a certain group and that was so my objective. Thank God I stuck it out. I regret nothing and I'm glad that you guys are enjoying me being here. I'm crazy and I love to laugh and make people laugh. Nothing worse than a boring leader lol. Anyway. Thanks!!! Let me know if anyone has questions or suggestions.

O yea! MTP!! It's no problem with you being late. There really isn't a late. I just now posted that first commetn alst night. We're gonna read a chapter a week so that everyone has the chance to get on and contribute to the conversations and the thread. Hopefully everyone gets involved and puts their thoughts in it. That's what it's there for. Just talk away about that first chapter amongst yourselves. Gives everyone the chance to get to know everyone else being that we are a group. I love it! So just jump in and put in your thoughts and everyone will add to it. That's all that's to it! Love all you guys!

I see you started the BF discussion and I'm already behind. emoticon I just hope I can commit to it. I'm great for starting and then things come up and I don't get around to finishing it.

Thanks for doing this. And thanks for posting the YouTube link. I had downloaded JM's teaching pdf notes on BF from her website awhile back, but I'm not sure how I can post it here. If you send me a Sparkmail with your e-mail address, I could send it as an attachment. Just a thought if you're interested.

Congrats EWYLIE30 as the new leader. Like your enthusiasm. Looks like a great group.

Aww that was sweet. Thanks for supporting me. Yea, I think it's gonna help everyone (including me.) It's always good to discuss things as a group to get different views. I don't believe only one view is ever right. There's always some other views that make "our" mean even more. That's why I'm so open to what other people think about things. You'll never here me say that my view is "right." To me it's right but I gladly accept others views also to deepen my own understanding and beliefs. Thanks for that post! Hopefully more come and join in. I sent out an email about the thread just in case people are reading this and didn't look. I know with all the emails that come, I tend to just not open them but I can promise that if it's a mass email from this group to you, it's only from me and is usually something I want everyone to read. I hate getting emails about nothing lol. Love you guys and have a very blessed and happy day! Everyone get involved in the water thread!

I LOVE this! I have had the book and the workbook for it for several years now and have never taken time to read it! Books are one of my "addictions," especially any of Joyce's books, Beth Moore's or Karen Kingsbury! Maybe this is just what I need to get my fat body back to moving and back into taking better care of myself! Thank you for such a wonderful idea! Can't wait to get started this weekend with the first chapter! :)

BATTLEFIELD OF THE MIND 10/14/10
CHAPTER ONE

"For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood, but against the despotisms, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly sphere."
Ephesians 6:12

* Our enemy, Satan, attempts to defeat us with strategy and deceit, through well-laid plans and deliberate deception.

* The devil has studied each one of us for a very long time and knows exactly what to do to make us fall.

I really love this chapter of this book. When I first read it, it was like she wrote it just for me. The devil is a liar! He's extremely patient. He'll wait as long as he has to to get us to be miserable and depressed and to be full of doubt. The good thing is that as hard as he fights us, God is still sitting there giving us all the tools to remain calm and safe. Believe me, I know it's hard at times but God has unended love and is always willing to take us back if we fall. I think that's just so awesome. I don't think we can even imagine love like that in the world today. He just has this on another level love. He's so in love with us. So cool.
I pray that each one of you will join in and read the book with us and ask for prayer if you need to for the strongholds on your mind. They're tough. Satan's hard at work! All he needs is to see us doubt just a little and BOOM.. he's right there telling us what we wanna hear. What a liar. But I know for a fact that my God is stronger than he will ever be and that helps me get day to day. I really care about you all and hope and pray that you get something out of our book discussions. Now feel free to put ya'lls opinions and thoughts in the thread and we can all discuss it and fellowship together.

Here's what I think I'll do. I think starting tonight/tomorrow (depending on if I fall asleep at the computer tonight :) we can read Ch 1. This is my FAVORITE chapter. There's so much in it that applies to all of us and especially me. Love it! I'll put the verse that she had written from the chapter along with some key points and thoughts. After that, everyone can join in and just discuss it. Then every week we'll read the next chapter. The reason I wanna do one ch a week is because not everyone is able to get on here everyday like us sparkaddicts (lol) and that gives everyone the chance to read it, think about it and really join in on the discussion. Could be just a week of discussion about it. May really help us (me) to just be able to discuss it and get others views and what not. That sound ok? Of course you can go ahead and read ahead of the team but I want everyone to really get a chance to get something out of it and the time to participate. I think it'll be fun.
