It sounds like we perceive ourselves as comfortable, and that it is plenty.

How wonderful!

I do have money but life with my husband made me so frugal as he liked to spend money only on him & my parents had to give me extras or needs.

Gosh, I'm basically frugal, but I also spend too much. I recentlly inherited quite a large bit of money, but I'm still frugal, pinching pennies.

Of course its the only way to be. Look at Warren Buffet he is one of the richest men in the world he still lives in the same house for so many years no showing off & donates most of his income.

There have been years when it wasn't by choice. Now it is. If I can get something for less, I can use the saved money on something else I need.

God grant me the serenity to change the things I can, to accept the things I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Yes-I think it's a personal choice for me, plus the way that I was raised myself. My parents taught by example--work hard, invest and plan ahead for the future. It's a natural way of living for me.

I live frugally out of habit. My partner wondered aloud if I would live frugally if my financial situation drastically changed, such as a lottery win, shifting to a better compensation rate with my work, inheritance, etc.

I think I would. Id have a bit more play and tzedakah (charity) money, but I think my focus would be on building savings and investments, not spending.

So, I see frugality as my default. I started because I had no choice as a young mom, as a badly paid professional, as a fledgling business owner, but Id stay even if my financial waters became a torrent.

How about you?
How do you view living on a shoestring? Is it a task or a choice?
