yes, and it is surprising how much less my water bill is this year compared to last year same month, and I always do conserve, I was raised in the generation that my Mother saved string, so being green is kind of natural, but I find new ways to save water with little effort

Yep! It's amazing how much and what we use water for!

Yep, me too. Cutting back on showers, reusing wash water, mulching our plants more heavily. While we are willing to let the grass go, we have a large vegetable garden that provides us with much of our food that we eat fresh, and preserve for the rest of the year. We are exploring ways to reduce water use there as well.

Totally! I am taking shorter showers (and I shower every other day unless I got particularly dirty), using less for washing dishes, collecting rainwater in buckets for my veggie garden, not flushing every single time, and stuff like that. As other people have done, I like to collect the rinse water from doing dishes and use it for my house plants and the little humidifier on top of my woodstove. This summer I plan on not washing my truck very much, and when I do, use less than one gallon of water (essentially a truck sponge bath without soap). This conservation effort is fun for me because I am always interested in ways to reduce and repurpose things.

Yeah! It's actually raining. Expecting only about an inch in my area but I'll take it.

I'm going to try and catch some of the rain water this weekend for watering after the rain passes.

I've cut back on showers, turn off water when brushing teeth, and have quit pre-rinsing dishes for the dishwasher (which only gets run when nothing else will fit)...

I am trying to conserve as well. I called my gas company, they have a program to help low income families that are living in older homes. They gave me a low flow faucet for the kitchen and our shower, and a device that shuts off the shower water when it reaches a certain temperature, so that it's not just running hot until you get in. When you get in you just pull the cord and the hot water starts. We've also stopped taking "full" showers everyday (the ones where you scrub your hair and every inch of skin). We now take them 2 to 3 times a week, other days are just sponge baths. Since members of my family are Muslim, they have been limiting water when they do wudo (ritual pre-prayer washing). But if anyone has any other conservation tips, please send me a Sparkmail!

Yeah, we get our water from a well.

I put the watering can under the faucet when heating up the water but haven't figured out how to conserve the water when heating it up in the shower. (no tub faucet)

Have a wonderful day. Keep smiling and make beneficial choices.

I'm shutting off the water when I am brushing my teeth or lathering up my hands. We have a low-flow toilet, but I'm still not flushing every time. We'd already replaced most of our landscaping with drought-resistant plants a few years ago, so we don't have a lawn to water. Next step: buying a low-flow shower head and a plastic tub insert for our sink so we can cut down on the amount of water we use to wash our dishes.

It's super-important for my tiny town to reduce usage because we get our water from a local stream that's running quite low. I definitely don't want to get into a situation in which we have to start trucking in water.

Listen, are you breathing just a little and calling it a life?

That doesn't sound excessive at all. It sounds like good sense to me.

Keep up the good work everyone.

I even keep a watering can by the sink to hold the rinse water used on the last rinse when hand washing dishes. Excessive I know.

I do try to cut back on electric too.

Yes, I use drip irrigation, low flow toilet, turn off water while brushing my teeth, many things. I also try to turn off unnecessary lighting, my computers and printers, and use low voltage lighting when possible. All are important.

Thursday I gave a lecture on designing lighting to prevent light pollution at a landscape architecture conference. If interested, go to http://darksky.org/ and learn how important a dark sky is. There is research showing that the excessive lighting in the atmosphere even leads to obesity.
