Awesome. Glad for your garden. Get some dust from walmart in a red can to keep the bugs off your veggies. Do you have deers. They will eat to.

My lettuce and broccoli are doing great. The peppers are growing. The squash have flowers. Some critter is biting off the flowers at night. Not all of them, but it makes me mad. I haven't seen any rabbits, so don't know what it is.

Awesome. Next year you know to start your garden a little early than this year. Good luck. If you have flowers on your squash they may make it.

Go for it, even if you get just a few things it will be fresh and from your hands.

My garden is growing. Whether or not they produce is still to be determined. I found some butter lettuce plants and broccoli, also cucumber seeds. The squash have some flowers on them, the peppers are growing. It's fun. I figure this is an experiment, and no matter what I will do one again next year.

Certain veggies can grow in the winter unless you have a hot house.

I see a lot of plants and seedlings in the stores, I'm assume they all could be grown in this area since they are new plants, not leftover from summer.

My summer garden was a disaster this year. All leaves and flowers and very few mature fruits and veggies. Too much rain? Fungus? In other words, I am not exactly a green thumb.

That said,

I have planted beets, turnips, and leeks that I hope will grow through the winter. I have also planted a fall crop of mesclun, spinach, and snow peas that I hope to harvest before it freezes.

Would it be possible to grow root crops such as carrots, beets, turnips and parsnips? I remember people keeping those crops in the ground most of the winter when we lived in western PA.

No. The only thing I know is salad and collard greens that they grow in the winter. But it could make it if the temp don't drop too cold. Good luck.

I like the idea of doing a winter garden especially as NC doesnt get as cold as NJ did

I've not planted a winter garden, but I remember when I was a kid, my parents would plant collards in the wintertime.

Does anybody have a winter garden? I'm going to try broccoli. We also have some zucchini, peppers and yellow squash going. They are about 6 weeks along. This is the first time we have tried this. Any advice?
