Driving through Glenwood Canyon last weekend was like nothing I've ever seen. It was incredibly green, but contrasted with the red soil, it was almost psychedelic. I'm just grateful that we haven't had to deal with newscasts about fires.

I'm a native too and June was wet even for normal Colorado. I rememeber a lot more snow in the winter when I was a kid and I don't mind the mild winters we've been having, though it's nice to have all the rain now. I hope it doesn't dry out later this summer or our fire danger will be very high. One thing is certain with Colorado weather. If you don't like it, wait 5 minutes.

Do you live in Woodland Park also? The rain has been strange this year. I have mushrooms all over my yard. Who would have ever thought about that in an arid climate. LOL.

I've been up to Woodland Park a few times this summer and my oh my it is lovely up there (even with all the remains from the fire). Gets a little chilly at night, but a welcome relief from the hot weather during the day hehe.

I've been here long enough to remember the regular afternoon showers, too. At one time, you could count on a shower between 2-5 in the afternoon, as DRPOOH63 said. Clear, bright mornings, gathering clouds around noon, the afternoon shower, and clear, beautiful sunsets. This year it's a bit different because there seems to be more rain and fewer clear sunsets.

Then, no one living here in Woodland Park even considered putting in air conditioning. Now, after the last few hot summers, people look for air conditioning in new houses. No need this year, though.

I just returned from a driving trip to Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone Natl. Park. The whole area is green right now. It's gorgeous and very unusual to see any green in Wyoming. But this is Colorado. Enjoy it while it's here, because you never know what to expect from the weather.

I moved back in 1998, the following summer it rained like crazy. I haven't seen it this green since then! I'm loving it! Everything looks so fresh and new!

We just moved here 3 years ago from another very green state (New Hampsha) and I have to say, the greens this year here in CO are so vibrant! My daughter from AZ visited last week and the first thing out of her mouth was, "Wow! It's so green here!" But then again, she's coming from Phoenix in June......I suppose anything north of AZ is looking green to her :-)

I am a native and growing up we often had the afternoon showers - around 2 to 5 and then the sun would come out again and we played until the street lights came on!! The green is sure amazing this year.

We used to get afternoon showers most of the summer. Then it dried up for what? 40 years? Something like. It's beautiful though, all the green.

Hi from Woodland Park - yes, its green out there! My hubbie and I drove up to Golden Gate Canyon SP yesterday - one of my favorite places, but haven't been up there in a while.

Everywhere we went it was soooo green - I'm not a native, but have been here close to 3 years. I have not seen it this green - but I am loving it!

The weather has been rough though - gets me down a little from time to time. I'm trying to learn to keep exercising, no matter what the weather.
Take care!

I'm a native as well, though I can honestly say I have not seen it this way since I was a little girl.

It just makes me not want to be in my house at all. I want to be outside until it's dark out because I just want to soak it all in, constantly. Hehe.

This is the way it used to be (I'm a native). We've been in a mild drought for a long time and the rain has helped take us out of it - for the time being.

I think this is the greenest it's been in years. I forgot just how beautiful it can be during the summer, it's usually very brown and dry.

Or is our state much greener this year as opposed to the last few years?

I don't remember seeing it so green. It's amazing to me.

Just a thought. emoticon
