I think they're called rollator walker covers. I think I have at least 15 counting the Christmas ones! LOL The point of my last comment is that there is a process in place for immigration. Although the process is sooooo much better now, you still need to go through the process. There is a huge reason for the process and that reason in my grandmother's day and now is the overall safety of the country as well as the immigrants. It doesn't help the immigrants who are fleeing for personal safety reasons to come into a country where the people who are trying to harm them are allowed to come too. If that happens, what is the whole point of the word asylum? In my grandmother's day there was danger of disease, overthrowing the country and population overgrowth for the infrastructure that was in place as the time. Then World War I happened and people could see that the decisions that were made were good ones. My grandmother was actually in favor of the immigration laws because those who wanted to harm her family, weren't allowed in this country.

Wow, Cyndi. That is quite a story. It seems like we have a history of treating immigrants like animals. It sickens me to see how we behave, as part of a global community. I speak regardless of political party, religious persuasion, or ethnicity. We have just got to do better than we are doing now. To hear that this was the experience of your family is heart-breaking; but, what determined people. Hmmmm. Maybe that explains your strong determination, right down to the decorative walker bags.*

*I'm not sure what to call those cute bags you have handing to the walker. I am most certainly not referring to you as a cute walker bag!

I wish I was as lucky as you two. My maternal grandmother was an immigrant who came to this country around 1901 through Ellis Island. After one year, they were deported because their paperwork wasn't in order. Again they left through Ellis Island. The trip was horrible for immigrants. They were health checked like animals and strip searched before being cleared to get on the ship and again when they landed and went through Ellis Island. They were discriminated against. They saved their money and again immigrated (this time with all the correct paperwork) and came through Ellis Island again. They were subjected to the same health check and strip search. They all stayed in the USA until they died. My grandmother became a citizen in 1975. Both my mother and her brother were born in the USA and were citizens.

Marsha, great stories about your Grandparents. I, too, hope mine remember me with a lot of affection. I think we all want to think that when we leave this world we will have made a mark with someone(s). We all can't be famous players on the world stage, but we can be a favorable memory and hopefully an influencer to our beloved inheritors.

Today I just have to say how grateful I am for this cool weather. This is what Floridians wait for all during that hot and humid summer!

Wonderful grandparent memories, Jane.

Oh, I adored my maternal grandparents. They had tried and tried to have kids, but multiple miscarriages and stillbirths and sick infants. My mom was the only one who survived. I was their first grandchild and my sister 3.5 years later, their last. My grandma always took me shopping and got my curly hair done. She spoiled me a lot! Probably the biggest gift was our pony. We had a cart, too, and got to ride in parades all around our town!

My paternal grandfather died when I was 10 months old. My paternal grandmother died while I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in India in 1973. I think she was 79. She had 4 daughters older than my dad and 9 grandchildren before me. She lived with my aunt in Tampa (I lived in Plant City) and loved to read. She got National Geographic magazines and shared them. Agatha Cristy was one of her favorite authors. I have good memories of her -- she was probably my only adult family member who was not obese. She did not dote on me like my other grandparents but she related to me as an adult earlier than other adults and I liked that.

Thanks for reminding me, Jane.

Hoping my grandkids live with good memories of me, too!

I'm thankful for my grandparents on my mother's side of the family. I never got to know my paternal grands. They both died when I was quite young. My maternal grands are long-deceased, but I still think of them often. I have my grandmother's hands, I have noticed as I am aging.

My grandparents were just the best. So loving and affirming. My grandfather would be so startled by the current technology. He was very interested in science and particularly about astronomy. He did live to see the moon-walk. When I was just a little girl he told me that the moon was 220,000 miles away and the sun was 93 million. After that, every time I saw him for many of my younger years ?7-12? he would ask me "How far away is the sun, Janie?" "How far away is the moon?" I never forgot those factoids!

I love sunrises and sunsets, too. Started our run at 5am this morning, so I got to see the sun rise over the Cleveland Heights Golf Course. The pink cloud strands went over the entire sky, not just to the east. Breathtaking! Best experienced with plenty of fresh air.

Today I am thankful for my silly little dog, Zoe. She is 7 pounds of brassy little poodle, although she is scared to death of her own shadow. BUT, she keeps me laughing and is the ultimate lap dog who sits and sleeps on my lap whenever I sit to watch TV. She gets quite irritated when I read since I can't read and hold her! Behold:

I want to get on this Gratitude band wagon! You're going in my direction!

1. I'm grateful for the people I've met this year; on SparkPeople and at Weight Watchers.
2. I'm grateful that I have a supportive family.
3. I'm grateful that I have a job that I am content with that gives me the flexibility and the means to continue my weight loss journey (I work in the gym at a hospital).

This is wonderful! I'm going to try to post at least 3 things I'm grateful for several times a week! I love this! So often, we focus on what's going wrong that we forget the simplest things that we have to be grateful for.

Youare so funny!! I just met the nicest family who came ot look at my house as a possible option. Poor things..they have 4 kids and the Army says they must have one room for each child plus the parents.....which is hard to come by here. We went to dinner and what can I say---ordered a salad with salmon BUT had 3 pieces of bread with krauter butter...butter w herbs..

So this evening I am grateful I could meet a nice family just arriving to Germany from Columbus, GA and that thy could help me see the beauty beyond the chaos of pile which are starting for getting rid of this, donating that, selling this, etc....
Happy evening to all!

Ooooohhh! Your food sounds so good. That's my Susan, the chef extraordinnaire . . . to say the least of your sommelier skills with the making of a vast tub of sangria! (Those were the days.)

What Paulo book are you reading? (Please excuse my shortening of his name to Paulo. So much easier . . . . . )

Thanks Jane....I did tell them and it seems the entire floor where I work has been impacted by a bug as you say....Saturday was ALL GOOD and I even had coffee! I feel fine!

Yea, grateful for Bob Harper recipes too... Yesterday I spent the better part of 2 hrs cooking turkey breasts, did up a huge veggie sautee of fresh yellow squash and zucchini from my garden, broccoli, spring onions, water chestnuts, cabbage....it shoudl be enought for at least 4 days or so I also grilled a huge head of cauliflower...and ate half...yum! SO....I will be set for lunch or dinners for this week....and have a big salad as the alternate meal. Breakfast during the week is easy of one cup Greek yogurt and one cup fruit...or I make Bob's pizza toast which I LOVE. I havn't followed the Jump start to Skinny exactly, but have only once in 2 weeks had a bakery croissant sandwich (turkey w sauerkraut) with a piece of Schwarzwald Kirsch Torte--black forest cherry cake w cappuccino.... the only sugar that has passed my lips in 2 weeks....I felt okay about that as it was a conscious decision as I sat in the sun with my latest Paulo Coelho book relaxing!!!

Take care all!!!

Oh Suz! You've been sick far too long. You might want to share that with your clinic. I wonder if you have an intestinal bug?

I just need to say . . . and want to say . . . that I am SO glad you are on this team with us. I can always depend on you for uplifting and encouraging thoughts as well as great ideas for food prep. I have lost my Jumpstart to Skinny book. But I am using the Skinny Rules recipes. Smoothies, salads, etc. I really love Bob Harper.

OOOOOHHH Susan! I heard on the news that the entire continent of Europe is in the midst of horrendous heat, including Great Britain, where the heat has fried grasses so much that buried architecture of old mansions and gardens are now visible. Crazy.

So I will chime in with you! I'm Sooooo grateful for my air conditioning. Those of us who think of ourselves as just poor old middle-class folks are really the richest of the rich in most other countries. I am so blessed to have a nice house, with nice furnishings, and climate control.

Gratitude is a many faceted practice. It feeds the soul, lights up our day, and provides us with a positive outlook, even in the face of trials and adversities.

Please share those things that make you grateful.
