Here I am again, writing at 11 p.m. at night. Sheesh. I've got to get better on my time management. I've been so busy working on my "new year project" that I can hardly believe how fast the days are flying by.

I will share a little more about my project later, perhaps in a blog.

I have made some real progress on my plans (plots?) to organize and simplify my house and my life. It is a big project to go through closets and drawers. At least it is at my house. Stacy has been doing the same thing and has taken a ton of stuff to the thrift store. I am going to follow up with my donations as soon as I get the "project" up and running. I have never in my life spent so much time and mental energy getting resolutions set up, but I think this is going to be a GREAT 2019 . . . partly because I'm putting some parameters in place for my possessions, my health and my time.

Talk to ya'll later.

Marsha: Thanks for the tips. Also, so glad you are feeling more optimistic. I think we have that in common. I'm almost always on the "sunny side" of life. When I get gloomy or down, my family panics! What is wrong? Are you feeling ok? Is there something I can do? How are you feeling? And I want to say: BUG OFF . . . but of course I don't.

Jane,
The way I use SparkPeople, is when I have the time, I enjoy Sparking. When I'm too busy and life takes priority, I don't! I never feel guilty if I can't Spark. Maybe when we get together sometime I could show you how I navigate around the site. Most of the time I think I receive benefit from the time I spend on SparkPeople.

We did stay up until midnight on New Year's Eve at home but I was so glad we didn't go to one of the parties we knew about through our dance. We had an invitation to a couple's home and there were dances at Sandpiper (hey, that's out near you, Jane and they sell tickets) and at Strawberry Square. But I am always scared when Gary is driving especially at night and especially late at night and even more especially after he has been drinking. The only thing that scares me more is my own driving. So I was relieved Gary was willing to stay home this year.

Had a good session today about my feet. Thanks, Jane, for your confidence that I will figure it all out! I was kind of down a couple days, but I'm over it.

Take care

Hello Ladies of Polk!
In answer to your query, Crystal, about my partying? I hate to publicly admit this, but Bob and I both went to bed at 9:30 p.m. Sad.! The fireworks and noise at midnight woke him up. Of course I don't hear a thing, resting peacefully in my bed with my hearing aids in a little bowl on the nightstand! I'm always so shocked when he tells me that I slept through a major storm with loud thunder and crackling lightening.

I suggested in my most recent blog that I was going to post my NY resolutions. I have been thinking them through for well over a week. I think I have them in place, so will probably get a blog out tomorrow. I'm still trying to figure out how to use Spark People. I know that sounds silly since I've on here since . . . ? 2008 maybe? I'm sure someone who knows where that stat is could tell me in 3 seconds. I can't seem to master how to traverse everything.

If any of you have a system, please tell me. Like I see Cyndi all the time on the community feed. Sometimes we are going down that feed almost in unison, and it gives me serious giggles. I'm in the middle of a great challenge, but it takes time to do the tasks and report them. If I log my food and do a little browsing, it's an hour or more gone . .. and I haven't yet checked the friend feed. And then I find myself here tonight at 11;00 pm because I can't go to bed without checking in with my group here! How does one balance it all? I want to blog regularly but that seems to be impossible. AND I"m retired! I mean seriously?

OK. That's not whining. I think this site is the "bomb-diggity" as my DD used to say.

OK. See you all manana! Marsha, you have the power to figure this out. Trust yourself. You are my miracle woman.

Happy New Year!

I started off my New Year right! I've completed my exercise, 2.19 miles and 15 minutes of weights. My hubby and I went to the park to walk at 11:30 am. What was I thinking?!?!? It was hot! Hence, why I walked only 2 miles.

I was suffering from a sinus infection last week, so I didn't exercise at all. Getting back to it slowly.

Marsha, when I lost weight years ago, I tried to get to the WW recommended weight which was 141 to 150. My body didn't want to go past 160! I struggled to get to 159 once, but I couldn't even maintain that weight for a week. This time, I'm going to let my doctor help me select a healthy weight for my body that I can maintain. You might want to try to maintain at the higher weight and see how your body reacts.

Have a great day all!

Welcome back, Crystal!

I'm still trying to figure out how active I should be and how much I should slow it down/moderate exercise due to foot problem.

Trying to decide if going up a couple pounds will make it easier to maintain. Last time I tried that I just gained; don't want to do that again. In 2018 my goal weight went from 126 to 129 to 131. I'm now 133.4 and just don't feel like fighting to get more off. Trying to figure out if that weight is okay. Know I don't want to keep gaining. Wah. Wah. Wah. Excuse my belly aching. I know I'm blessed and have much to be thankful for.

Happy New Year's Eve!

Just returned from Augusta, GA last night. My husband's aunt (his mom's sister) is under hospice care and we went to see her. Those situations are always sad, but she still had the prettiest smile. Praying for peace for her!

Off work today. Will be grocery shopping, making sure my house is in order. I follow a lot of the traditions of my grandparents, such as no washing clothes on New Year's (you don't want to wash your luck away) and the traditional dinner of black eyed peas, pork and greens (turnip, collard, kale, etc.). I've added to my family's tradition of having a clean house on New Year's (don't want to spend my year cleaning).

I wish everyone a peaceful and safe New Year! I hope all is well with everyone.

Marsha, glad to see Natalie is on the mend. How are you?

Jane, are you partying tonight? I loved your poem!

Congrats, Jane! I'm sure you shared joy with EVERYONE attending!!

Thanks for your kind comments, too.

Enjoyed seeing Cyndi today! Such a sweetheart. Glad she's back safely from travels.

Natalie is doing good. If she stays home and not too active, over the counter pain killer is enough. She'll be able to go back to school part time on Jan 7th. Definitely making progress. On Saturday when we went to Disneyworld EPCOT we rented her a wheelchair (push one is just $12) and she used it most all day and took a stronger pain killer, too. I do think she was glad she went, though. We really enjoyed the Candlelight Processional with Auli'i Cravelho, the young actor who voiced Moana as the narrator.

Hi everyone. This is a quick post as the Christmas fever is running high right now!

I'm preaching tomorrow at a congregation in Orlando. My preaching has been very limited since I retired, but how could I turn down an invite to preach on December 23 . . . when it is the 4th Sunday of Advent and the theme is joy! So, there's a brunch at 10 which means I will need to leave by 9. Busy day, but happy times. My sermon is all done and printed out. The paper is still warm and the ink wet (figuratively speaking) . . . but I can check that off my list. My tree is decorated . . . finally! I'm still putting out the occasional straggling snowman. I told Bob I would cut the decor drastically this year, but it is HARD to move things out that have so much history and sentimentality. Onward she says!

Marsha, Bob sees the doctor on Monday. I think if there had been anything critical he would have heard by now. He spoke to the office nurse and she said things look good and we would hear more on Monday. I loved your musical Christmas card . . . AND your elf costume. What the latest report on your littlest patient? (Not Gary btw! LOL)

Cyndi, it was nice to see you here. Stop by again and give us an update on you and yours.

Crystal, we're all wishin' we'd been cruisin' too! What was your daughter's degree in? How proud you must all be of her.

Hope everyone is having a blessed holiday season. Stop and smell the poinsettias!

Hello All!

Life has been crazy, but in a good way! I just returned today from a cruise with my family. My youngest daughter, Jessica, received her Master's degree and this was a celebration cruise. Also, I started a new part-time job. I am now a Wellness Guide with WW (formerly known as a receptionist). I've been training for this position and trying to complete all the training before my vacation and before the new year. Like I said, crazy, but in a good way!

I hope everyone has been doing well. I have to catch up on all the posts, but wanted to say HI!

Went to cardiologist today. I was dreading this as I had told him I would try to lose 30 pounds. He's such a great and brilliant doctor. I was afraid I would have a gain since I had no memory of my weight 10 months ago. As it turns out, I had lost 13 pounds! I was up near my all time high when I last saw him. He gave me a high five and I shared how worried I was about not getting the 30 pounds off that was my goal (he set). He said, "Losing weight is hard. Let's celebrate the 13 that are gone." What a great guy. Love him. AND best of all: I don't see him for another year. That's the first time I've gone that long. I am hoping that I can really get 30+ off in this coming year. He says my pacemaker will probably need to be replaced in three years. So knowing that I have this surgery ahead is even more reason to get closer to an ideal weight . . . all that anesthesia etc. To say the least of climbing onto a gurney with that little gown that ties in the back. Talk about Northern exposure!

Still decorating! LOL I'm going to have to do New Years hostessing. I really want to enjoy my house with the Christmas things out. Getting closer every day . . . but like everything in my life these days, it takes more time than I ever realize!

Heck yeah! I remember the nurses sliding those weights back and forth, and exclaiming, "Oh you wear your weight well. I wouldn't have guessed."

Really? With my ample fanny right there on the scale?

I have the tree up but nothing on it. Thank goodness it is prelit. It all ready looks spectacular. It is just what I needed and wanted. A tall (9-feet) skinny tree! (Hmmmm. Mayhap there be a little carryover from my diets?) (And truly I say unto you, if I were nine feet tall I would be SO proportional.)

Making slow cooker lo mein. It looks good and smells like a Chinese restaurant in my house. All those good scents in the air: ginger, soy, Sriracha. Making whole grain pasta to toss it with, thereby taking it from a chicken-vegetable stew to Chicken Lo Mein! I hope-hope this is a good recipe. Fingers crossed. AND back to the decorating/cleaning. UGH. Fun/chores.

Good one, Jane. Yep. No seat extender AND no extra ballast on the scale. Do they still do that? I think so on some scales they have to add weight o balance if the person is over - 250 or 300 or ??? I remember a man who could not weigh at Weight Watchers and had to go to the post office to get weighed. I know that would be me if I didn't try!!

Nuncrackers sounds hilarious!!

Marsha, such a good blog today. I thought of another one that is sooooo not a happy thing to add to your list:

Not having to ask for a seatbelt extender when you fly. (That is the worst, even worse that looking for WAA chairs.) It hurts because the flight attendant is about the weight I was in 4th grade.

Making this brief . . . gotta get back to my Mrs. Claus efforts. Not in the kitchen (so far). Trying to talk myself out of making my annual fruitcake cookies. I cannot make them and not eat my weight in them. They are the best thing ever created. In my kitchen. Ever.

Hey Marsha and all,

Everybody seems to be me and you! LOL

Well, it has been hectic here. I've tried my best to at least check in and log my food. STILL trying to dig out some holiday cheer. We need some about now.

Bob has been feeling awful for a month. He has been fighting this same virus that I had. He had it for about 10 days before it got me. I'm through with my antibiotics and definitely about back to my "old" self. But he's been through two scripts of antibiotics. The seond one is BIG guns the doctor said. He ordered a CT of his head and referred him to a ENT since he has such trouble with sinusitis. When the ENT doctor looked at his scan, he said it appeared that he had a small brain bleed/aneurysm. I about fell off my chair I was so shocked and Bob, too. This is what killed his mother . . . a brain aneurysm. So they had him get an MRI. The earliest was the next day at 6:30 p.m. His headache is not improving and he feels like he's doomed. No one has called to give him any results, but the ENT (who said a lot of his problems were from a deviated septum) has scheduled him to have a procedure to fix the nose, but he said he wouldn't touch Bob until he had some idea what was going on in his brain. (I've been trying to get an idea of what is going on in his brain for 44 years and all I've come up with is sex and world war II.) LOL - but still terrified. The fact that no one has called is probably good news, but I think we are going to call on Monday because he is in a state over this. As would anyone.

So, Merry something or other. I forget what . . . . oh Ya! Christmas! I'm going to get out stuff and be done with decorating tomorrow! Solid!

Hugs to all, especially my fearless co-leader, Ms. Marsha.

Duh. I just re-read what I wrote. My back hurts because I overdid cleaning carpets yesterday. I had not put that together. See what posting can do for you??

If I do it again in spring I'm going to go slower and take more breaks. Or maybe get Stanley Steamer to do it.

Better. 131.0 this morning. Good day yesterday. Now I need to string them together consistently!! Although it may seem silly to fight for a pound or two near goal, I feel like if I don't I'll gain it all back quickly -- and if not quickly, then sooner or later. WATERMELLEN calls us POWs - previous overweight and says we can't eat like people who are not POWs. 131 may be the best I can maintain now. I have tried and not succeeded at 126 and 129. I suspect that as I'm aging, especially since I haven't run in 2 months, the amount of food I can eat and maintain has decreased. I know working on muscle could help some, but it takes a lot to build muscle and I have a history of minor injury when I try to build muscle, so that may be limited, too. I woke with a tender back this morning and less than my usual flexibility. I've been up an hour and it is already better. Aging. Sigh.

I have a few Christmas things out. Let me change that. I have more than a few out, although not near as many as I used to put up when DD was little. I put up a little tree and thought that would be adequate but DH seems to want to bring in the big one. Sigh. He is working on the outside lights. Wish to heavens he would stay off the roof, but he is not sensible on this issue.

Today I rented a carpet cleaner and I worked hard to push that heavy machine around. I did the living room and hall several times, and 2 of the 3 bedrooms. I didn't feel like cleaning (picking up so that I could clean) the kids' playroom and the carpet in there doesn't look bad any way. It doesn't have to returned until Friday so son in law came and got it. He cleaned carpets for pay when he was in high school so he's going to do it at his house. I mostly did the traffic areas. I moved the couch, one recliner, and all the little pieces of furniture. I'm thinking maybe in April I'll do real spring cleaning and move everything to clean!

Natalie took the bandage off her incision today. She sent me a picture but told me not to show anyone even Gary. She was very afraid of removing the bandage because she thought it would hurt, but she lived through it. It looks like it is healing well. It is pretty straight. She isn't standing straight yet. One shoulder is definitely higher than the other. DD says with healing she may do less guarding and it may correct. I wonder if she won't need physical therapy.

I was 2.6 pounds over my target weight today. Was a little over calorie range yesterday. So far I've done well today. I didn't do any exercise as such, but I have over 12000 steps, so I have been active today. We'll dance tomorrow. We went square dancing last eve but hubby's feet were hurting and he didn't dance once. I did one 20 minute session with a young man who didn't have a partner. My foot is feeling fine and I'm leaning toward NOT doing the surgery on my feet. But I'm still thinking. Will it break again if I don't? Are these orthotics enough to keep me from further breaks? Will seek another medical opinion.

Hope you are all doing well! Merry pre-Christmas!!

I still haven't put out my Christmas stuff. I keep thinking every day that I will have the house picked up enough to put out the holiday stuff. But we took apart a guest room and created a home office . . . and I'm not sure when I will get things situated again.

I've been trying to downsize. Emphasis on the word "trying". However, I did nearly fill up our recycle barrel with magazines that I was sure I would read soon. Operative word here is "soon". It is hard for me to pitch things out. And I've always had enough. Raised in a very middle class post-war neighborhood with stay-at-home mom and hardworking dad. They gave us what they could, including music lessons and college. And still I have to check myself to keep from becoming a full blown hoarder. Well, OK. Not really that critical. But I definitely have too much. Of everything. I think. OK, I know!

In the month of April, my daughter and I took the "Minimalist Challenge." I may have shared this here, but I can't remember how long I've been gone. But in case that means nothing to someone, here's what that involves. It was created by a couple of guys who call themselves The Minimalists. They actually came to Tampa with their act for one evening at the Straz Center for the Arts (where my husband is the Manager of Security). I didn't go see them but next time I will. The challenge is to pick a month and dive in . . . April 1 the challenger picks 1 item to pitch or give away, April 2 two things, April 3 three things, etc. At first it seems ridiculousy simple. But when you hit the middle to the end of the month it gets REAL, baby! By the end of the month one has pitched or donated 465 things. Hooah! Interestingly enough, when you get to the larger numbers of purging, you get better at it. I am going to do one again in January as a New Year I Purge! (I just realized that with the name New Year, it sounds like someone barfing up a lot of holiday egg nog.)

A lot of Christmas stuff will be donated rather that repackaged. I remember when my Mom said she just didn't have the enthusiasm to go big and broad for Christmas. She and my dad bought the teensiest little live tree which they decorated (and I thought why?) . . . then planted it in the backyard where it grew to 8 feet and still stands there I imagine. At any rate, I thought OMG! I would never get that way about decorating for the holidays. Please pass me a spoon so I can eat my words!

Oh Marsha. Thanks. I hope others are peeking in here and will drop a line or two. It seems like I run hot and cold, this time cold being an actual cold! I'm much better today. Still having spells when I cough and cough and . . . well you get the picture! BUT they are farther apart and less severe. Today the cough drops are working with just one losenge. Before I was eating three in a row to quell the cough. So progress!

I've had a less than commendable food day, but I'm not going to obsess over it. I've been well behaved and logged everything since Monday. I have logged the pizza, coke, and cupcake and can see that I didn't get much bang for my buck with that . . . high wasted calories and not much to keep me going strong. Lesson pete and repeat!

I've been t;rying to get my house picked up enough that I can decorate. WHAT A CHORE. Things were just so messy. Things get out of control so quickly when I'm down for a couple of days. Bob's working long hours too. So I'm off to continue with a little more pick up work. Will check in again later.

Hope you shake this bug and get back to your energetic, loving, enthusiastic self!! I googled "severity of colds" and phrases about aging, but didn't find any definitive conclusion on whether colds get worse as we age. I know they bother me more than they did when I was younger. Guess I used to like to get out of my school/work routine for a day or two and just really, really rest. Now I don't have anything to get out of!!

Most of my other relevant thoughts are in my blogs today. Wishing you all the best. Don't sweat the season.

If you are the "Magic Maker" in your family, let the spirit of the season move you and don't stress. Emphasize love and it will all work out. Don't work so hard on Christmas that you don't take care of yourself. You deserve some magic, too. Love to all from Marsha!

Thanks for the update and the good wishes. I'm still hacking and coughing (and gagging!). I can't decide if the bugs we are getting these days are worse or if this is just a natural part of aging. I'm hoping that's not it! There are so many other aging issues . . . losing my hearing, losing teeth, balance going haywire, gravity definintely pulling everything down toward the core of the earth!

I joined a winter challenge and I think it is going to be fun . . . but also a lot of work. I'm hoping it will give me some needed incentive to work more consistently. I'm worried about the amount of time it takes to work this challenge . . . and the team seems a bit competitive. Yikes.

I haven't even got Christmas decor up yet. That is like Bad Grandma (probably why she got run over by the reindeer!).

Later lovelies!

Thanks, Jane. Get well soon! Hope you can put that cold and cough behind you.

I think you are right. Gwen by nature is overall very caring and compassionate. Natalie needs some lessons in that area. She certainly has been through an ordeal. Dana said yesterday that when Natalie is on the meds and feeling good it is really hard to keep her from overdoing,, and then she has to spend several hours in pain, with tears and misery. Maybe after yesterday she learned her lesson. Hope so. She is not to twist her back at all, but she is so used to being active it is really hard for her. She has a walker she is suppose to use, but I saw her bounding around and even sitting on the floor and standing up. I guess it is good she wants to do so much, but I guess it is even harder for an eleven year old to think ahead and think about consequences than it is for us.

First, I'm so glad that Natalie is on the mend. She certainly has a long road ahead, but she will be a stronger girl for the experience. I truly believe that. She will have increased empathy for others for the rest of her life. No matter what age, 7 or 70, I think these taxing experiences just provide powerful learning moments for the rest of one's life. Sometimes those things are just physically difficult, like Natalie's surgery. Other times we are tried with great sadness, the loss of someone we love and those less sad moments like losing a job or seeing someone move far away. I think aging is its own trial! I'm trying to age gracefully, but not having much luck at it! But I will plod on. I mean what else can one do?

i was soooooo sorry to miss the dinner last night. I have been as sick as I've ever been and it came on so fast. I went from coughing a couple of times an hour on Sunday evening, to constant coughing by 2 a.m. Tha nkfully I had a doctor's appointment for my annual check up so was able to get an antibiotic. My goodness they are potent! I took one last evening and went to bed . . . woke up feeling awful this morning but after second dose and a few hours I could actually feel myself getting better. I'm going to bed now and feeling that nosedive that sickness seems to take in the evening. But I will feel much better tomorrow, I'm so sure!

So hi and bye! See you all later.

Natalie has her appetite back. One day the only thing she kept down was M&Ms. Not good. Another day the only thing she kept down was part of a cherry pop tart. Needless to say I'm really glad she is able to eat now. Would love for her to realize that controlling her weight will help her back, but I'm going to tread very lightly. Don't want to cause eating disorder. Do not trust myself to be sane about food! Just want to love her.

I'm back on track after 5 sloppy eating days, not bad really, just no tracking, and snacking all day although much of it was grapefruit off our trees. Overeating grapefruit is still overeating. Now 2 good days of eating and tracking. Still 2-3 pounds over my best maintainable weight. Now is not the time to ease up the effort!! Can't burn a lot of calories as foot is still complaining. Sigh.

Crystal, Love Holloway Park! Congrats on your finish. I volunteered the Double Down on Saturday and had a blast.

Enjoy your cruise. Hope you can come to a team dinner soon. Great group of people and you'd fit right in!! Congrats on your daughter's graduation.

Everyone, Natalie's scoliosis surgery is tomorrow. We are all Team Natalie. We have her back. I hope to have bracelets to pass out. DD bought a bundle but I don't have any extra right now, but hope to soon!

Happy Thanksgiving, a day late! I hope everyone had a wonderful day yesterday!

My hubby and I participated in the Holloway Park 5k yesterday. The last mile was HARD! Iíve really got to scope out these race courses before I sign up for a race! It was definitely interesting and a challenge. I finished in 45:37 minutes. Not bad for a walker/runner. I have to work on improving. The perk was the pie we each picked up from Winn Dixie. I definitely earned my slice of pecan pie yesterday!

It was just my hubby, my daughter and myself yesterday for dinner. My youngest will be back in Florida in less than a month and I canít wait. I will have all of us around the Christmas dinner table this year with the loving knowledge that my youngest will only be 3 hours away.

She, Jessica, finishes her Masterís program and is set to graduate on December 14th. She decided not to participate in the graduation ceremonies, so she should be back in Florida on the 14th. We all leave for a cruise on the 16th for 5 days. Canít wait!

Iím sorry I havenít been to our team dinners. I really want to meet everyone. Iím planning for the December one. Please donít count me out!

Iím off the rest of the week and plan to get a lot done around the house. Iíve been up since 3:30 am since Iím used to getting up early every day. You can get a lot done when everyone is asleep! My hubby has to work every day, including Sunday. It is their Christmas peak time (retail). I will start putting up my Christmas tree today. Iíll have it completely done by tomorrow night. It is a handful by myself and Iím just going to do a little at a time.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Yeah, I have kids all day Monday and Tuesday, but their dad is off Wednesday which is good so I can get some cleaning done and ready for cooking. We are just having Gary, me, Dana, Natalie, Gwen, nephew Martin and Martin's dad for early meal noonish (Martin's dad has no one else to eat Thanksgiving with, so even though he's my sister's ex and not my favorite person, Martin will appreciate his dad being included so we willt.) Josh has to work and I don't have to do too big a dinner as Dana and kids will be eating a bigger Thanksgiving meal with Josh's family supper and Josh will get there late. Hoping not to have too many tempting leftovers.

Got to admit holidays are hard, especially when I cook and have all those leftovers I hate to waste. This year I was sure I'd be okay Halloween but I ended up not doing near as good as I wanted. I was back on track and on the scale in 3 days, so not too bad. But I'd love to do even better this next week.

I'm going to have to start taking my double strength vitamins. School is out all of next week. That means I will have Jordan more than just the usual after school hours. He's easy to watch now that he's ten years old. He has favorite TV shows and loves games on computer, his Xbox and his phone. Audrey, on the other hand, has daycare Monday through Wednesday, but it is closed for Thanksgiving and Black Friday.

Black Friday is way too scary for me to shop. I don't do well with the bundled masses fighting for that last prelit Christmas tree. I just can't participate fully. Maybe I was just brought up too courteous to be able to get into that arm for an arm, leg for leg style shopping. I have talked about this with friends who think that is half the battle . . . getting together with thousands of people shopping for gifts. Yech. No can do.

I am doing a modified Thanksgiving this year. I say modified because Scott and Betsy are inb Denver and Steve and Katie are in Asheville. I was surprised to talk to Scott and find out that 1) he and Bets are engaged with a date set for October 26, and 2) they are moving back to Florida at the end of November. That was a shocker for me as I know how much Scott loves the mountains. I am going to be thrilled to have them back here again. But for Thanksgiving it is just me and Bob, Stacy and Dwight an Audrey. This is Jordan's year to have Thanksgiving with his Dad's people. Stacy has to go to work on Thanksgiving afternoon, so we are going to have Thanksgiving on Sunday when Jordan gets back. His father's family are from Puerto Rico and he thinks their Thanksgiving food is "weird." They make traditional food from their past Thanksgivings which is more pork and rice, plantains, and so forth. He really missed the old turkey and mashed potatoes . . . so we are delaying Thanksgiving since Stacy is off as well that day.

It still seems hard to imagine such a small Thanksgiving . . . although Bob and I have spent several of them here in Florida by our lonesomes!

So to come full circle on this note, I need my vitamins for Thursday and Friday when I will be babysitting Audrey . . . the busiest kid I;ve ever known! Help help me, Rhonda!

Marsha, that was such an interesting post. I can't thread needles anymore either, but I have one of those little threader things. Who would have thought I'd ever need it? I used to thread needles all the time for my mother. I was a teen and still living at home, but she was having a horrible time. Eventually she had Parkinson's so it was more challenging. I have some problems with tremor as well. So I "feel ya."

Bob got me a new Janome sewing machine. He bought it at least a month ago and it is still in the box. I'm anxious to get it set up and do some things with it, but it is/was? in a series of domino things here at the house. We took a big step toward that last weekend when we sold the king size bed and put up our former bed, a queen. That meant that the room to be the office was now free of the headboard and footboard leaning up on a wall of the room along with the bed slats. Today Bob shampooed nearly all the carpets in the house so I'm setting the office up this week. SO excited about that . . . because the desk that I bought off Craigslist in May was all in pieces taking up my dining room! LOL So now the dining room will fall back in place just in time for the holidays. My house looks like a tornado swept through rather than a gentle 68 year old carpet cleaner.

Marsha, we must have lunch one day soon. I want to talk to you more about what you wrote below. It really spoke to me since I always think if I just got thin I would be so much happier. But I'm really a happy person and so blessed by family and comfortable lifestyle, but I tend to ruin my happiness by always fretting about my fat-ness. It's a trap, really.

On that happy note (?), I will see you all tomorrow.

Today I tried 25 times, but could not thread a regular needle. Between my tremor and my decrease in vision, I just couldn't get it. I dug deep in my sewing machine and found a needle you can thread by push/pulling thread at the top of the eye. Don't even remember when I got that kind of needle but glad I have some.

Coming to grips (not gripes) about aging appears to be one of the biggest upcoming challenges.

I know depression does not have to be part of aging, but if it isn't, you have to be good at accepting losses -- or sometimes fighting them - or finding work arounds like that needle.

I definitely want to control my weight and live life at a normal, healthy weight, but I have no illusion that it will keep away all the health and social challenges. I read that most people who lose a lot of weight are about as happy as they were before they lost the weight. In my case I don't think that is strictly true. I am happier smaller. Like for me, it is important but far from everything. (I started to say "necessary, but not sufficient" and then realized that if something happened that I did gain back all the weight I would not be doomed to unhappiness.)

So I'm wishing you an active, healthy day, and if you have some tips for aging, please clue me in!!

Susan! I'm so excited that you are coming back home to Earth. OK, Florida. But you might as well be The Martian, Germany is so far away. Is Japan closer? I suppose it all depends upon which ocean one flys over.

I had a full day yesterday. The morning was a rush of doctor appointments and medications to pick up at Walgreens. Sheesh. No wonder people talk about "the infirm elderly"! I'm starting to fit that description as well as Bob. At least I've made it to 71! Since my birthday is in January, I feel fairly certain that I will make it to 72. However 73 sounds a long way off! Not sure, but hope to keep on keeping on! That is not intended to be macabre, just the facts, ma'am, just the facts! So after the medical escapades, I had a full day of babysitting with Jordan out at noon. Stacy worked until 9:30 p.m. So I got home last night at 10:15 p.m. That after my bedtime! The infirm elderly be needing her beauty sleep (said in voice that sounds like Tiffany Haddish) (my favorite new actress/comedienne).

On a more positive note, I have started taking my night meds at 7 p.m. OMG! What a difference. I am now waking up earlier and with the end of daylight savings time . . . well Good Morning y'all! OK. So it's nearly 11 a.m., but in my defense I've been awake since 6:30. I have minimal babysitting responsibilities today. Hooray! Maybe I can get a few things done around my house! Does anyone have a shovel I can borrow? And a wheelbarrow as well? I have to laugh because I looked at my house this morning and thought about the Labors of Hercules . . . specifically the one where he was tasked to clean the Augean stables overnight. Google it, if this doesn't ring a bell!

It's only November 8, yet I've started 10 different diets, including belonging to Weight Watchers yet again. Fortunately I came to my senses after tracking for 1-1/2 days and got an entire refund. $13.31. Hello! Not much, but every penny counts. Then I saw this woman online who swore you could lose 5 pounds in two weeks by replacing your evening meal with one of her "whole meal" salads and dressings. That lasted one meal when I ate a spinach salad with raspberries and some pecans plus a raspberry dressing. So where is the protein? That did NOt replace a meal. Well it did, but I was hungry (righteously!) in two hours. I think I do best when I just check into the nutrition tracker here and count my calories. The old time tried and true method.

Have a g-r-r-r-r-eat Thursday!

Bob went back to work today so I can check "caregiver" off my to do list. Sheesh. I can hardly get anything done when he is home. Not complaining, just realizing that I need to develop new strategies for getting my work done when he is home. He likes for me to watch TV with him and I can't get anything done doing that. I used to do a lot of little things while I watched TV, but that was when I could hear! Now I am totally reliant on the closed captioning to get through a program. So the days of sorting mail, making meal and grocery plans, etc. is done! When I say "I'm going to blast to the store" he says, "I'll take you!" So sweet, huh? Sometimes he even comes in to the john when I'm, well . . . not to be indelicate, but making peepee (?) he comes in and sits on the side of the garden tub to yak with me. I love him and don't know what I would do if or when I lose him. But I do have a few little routines that get slightly upended.

I've gotten so much done today! We bought a new queen sized bed to replace the king. I did the laundry today and the new queen size mattress pad has taken all day to dry. I've restarted the dryer 5 times! To be honest, I didn't really get it started until about 10 a.m. but here it is 6:30 p.m. and still rolling around in the dryer. My dryer is new so it's not that . . . it's just the newness of the product. I will have to make a mental note to plan this as a daylong activity.

I'm trying to eat healthy, but it is hard. A constant battle! I'm planning to go watch the returns next and hope it will not be a nail-biter. I don't bite my nails . . . I eat ice cream!

See you all tomorrow.

Today is a lovely day so far. Some overcast skies but mostly sunny and cooler. Love this weather.

Bob is much improved from his coughing and wheezing. Since he is not coughing non-stop, we are going to pick Jordan up at the bus stop and take him the theater to see "Halloween" -- the new one with Jamie Lee Curtis 40 years later fighting that same old Michael Myers. We watched the old original one on TV last week with him and he thought it was rather "Lame" compared to the current horror shows. I think when he is older he will better understand that truly good scary movies are all about building up tension slowly until you jump out of your seat with surprise! Blood and gore are not necessary. I think of how tense the old Alfred Hitchcock movies were. Or Psycho! Yikes!

I've had a good day (for a change) and hope I can go to the movies without too much collateral damage on the candy/popcorn scene. I loaded up on healthy produce yesterday at Aldi so no excuse for good meals at home. We don't eat out often (except Bob's has a current yen for the Cravings Value Box at Taco Bell).

Hope everyone is happy and healthy on this great Monday. Please make sure you vote!

Jane

Jane, stay healthy! If you do, you know those immunities are good! Hoping Bob continues to improve quickly and all the other folks in your stay healthy now. Enough with Urgent care!

I'm really tired of this boot and sore foot. Trying to be patient. Will keep trying!

I have had a CRAZY day. I can't believe it id already dark thanks to daylight savings ending. I spent at least half the day in urgent care with Bob. After going there on Tuesday, he continued to decline over the five days since then. He had almost no sleep last night with wheezing and inability to breathe when lying down. He spent half the night in the recliner. Today he only had two pills left from his prednisone dose pack, so I toid him we were going back to urgent care. He ended up with a shot in his rump, a breathing treatment and x-rays to rule out pneumonia. X-rays looked good and so after spending several hours there with masses of sick folks coughing and sneezing, it will be miraculous if I don't get a disease! I've been there three times in the past two weeks: once with Jordan, once with Stacy and Audrey and now with Bob. So far I feel like my usual self! Fingers crossed.

Susan! I missed your call since I was at Watson Clinic Urgent Care. There is NO service inside. They have signs all over about not using your cell phone in the clinic . . . who on earth is able to get a call in there? I want their coverage plan! Usually I can text but today I couldn't even send a text to let Stacy know we were incarcerated there!

BTW, Bob is already somewhat better. The nurse who "shot him: said he would get immediate relief from the cough and wneezing. Solulmedrol. Miracle drug!

I had plans to go to Aldi with Stacy this afternoon. The local one is closed for remodeling, so we had to trek to Auburndale to get the bargains. I was so late getting home from the clinic that we didn't get there and back until just a little while ago. So now I have four huge sacks of groceries to put away. I wish a little bag boy would come home with me to put it all up. Sigh.

See you all tomorrow. Hugs all around.

I am being lazy...this is what I posted on my 5 percent change team.....the dilemma of the various sizes of clothes as I have shrinked and expanded over the last 4 years !!! What does everyone do?? I am moving to the land of the petite ( Japan) and clothes are so expensive!!!! Jane----haha---you know my life!!! I now have one small bag of 12s (dream), 2 bags of 14s ( all my clothes from Alaska days), a bag of 16s, and I am wearing 18s. Thoughts anyone??

Thanks for the ideas on the clothes dilemma. I have donated many many bags in the past and think it is such a great idea for interview attire to be available, etc....ha my clothes are certainly casual.....thank goodness I don't have to dress up for work. I basically went crazy with buying clothes when I lost much ( 60 pounds) of my weight about 4 years ago, thus tons of size 14 and 12's ( I am a size 10 only if running marathons or doing long distance hikes). I suppose the good thing is they were all bought at the thrift store or Sams. In Alaska we had these stores called Value Village and few people ship or haul belongings back to the "lower 48" if moving....so you can really find some nice clothing there at dirt cheap prices. Anyway,,its all a process!

My niece is having a engagement party next weekend in Atlanta and I will show up weighing about 30 pounds more than when I left 1.5 years ago----grin--it is just life , so I found a nice pair of slacks and dressy shirt which will work just fine , and also found 2 prs of jeans on sale and 2 other shirts for mix and match....same brand and size of the two pairs of jeans I alternate with now.Sadly, for the last 2 months I have only had those 2 pairs of pants that fit and I have made due. Other than getting worn out it has been kinda freeing to know what you are wearing in the morning! I just wash them after 2 wears and hang them on my fancy towel warmer and they are dry in the morning. I gave up on the German dryer after two tries and being brought a new dryer.....tried it twice and it took over an hour to dry one towel....so I just hang everything...it is kinda zen and I like the fresh air smell from the summer and now just use a rack and doorways/ bannister and voile things are dry in afew hours. The German washing machines are EXCELLENT and spin most of the moisture out of the clothes! They also clean better than my US machine... Anyway....I am living the big life now with 4 pairs of jeans ( 2 blue/2 black) and a pair of black slacks...ha!! If I can lose the 20 pounds I had off last fall then I will have more options....I WILL in time , and I will take just a carryon more than likely on my trip

Today I am headed over to take my dog for a little " play date" at the house where she will stay when I am gone. Also, still doing laundry of bed covers, blankets, and taking loads to the thrift store, etc " in case" I get my orders ie travel papers which will then give me basically 4-6 weeks to move. Heading down to the train station today also to finalize my train ticket to Munich where I fly out from on Th morning....it is about 2- 3 hrs from here. I had 12,000 steps yesterday just with errands, so hope to take a walk today.
Happy Sunday all!

I only had to take 2 weeks vacation time because of Veterans and Thanksgiving days off. Yay!!!! Jane, I may be able to borrow a car, so would love to come to FL! WIll try to call you or email you here or at personal email. What is best? Happy Sunday all!!!
