Oh yes! Jolie isn't much for cuddling unless the weather is cold. But put your hand on her spine or hips and she won't move!

MacDuff loves the hot tub. He gets this look of ecstasy on his face and goes perfectly still. He likes massages, too, my little hedonist!

And the hotter the water, the better, right?

Buddy loves the bath ... I think ... because he jumps into the tub!

My husband used to put Jolie in the tub with him. She loved it!

That is terrible! Poor Buddy!! Yes, it might help to desensitize him to put him on the table and do things he likes or doesn't find objectionable. MacDuff had a bad nails experience, and now only have them done when he's under for teeth and other things. We're all happier that way.

Buddy actually jumps into the tub by himself... that's what is so strange that he gets so stressed. I think it's the whole grooming thing. You know... on the table with the scissors.

He is finally better with me handling his feet. But one groomer let him get choked and it was so bad that he had a nose bleed that she couldn't stop. I had to rush him to the Vet and have her treat him. The groomer never admitted that he was choked, but he showed all the signs. Maybe that's why he works himself up so much inside over the whole thing!

I'm going to do the grooming table more often even to brush him. I usually just brush him and do his teeth on the floor, but maybe I should try putting him on the table more.

Thanks for the input. Every little bit helps!

Good point, Becky. MacDuff used to find bathing terribly stressful. So I started putting him in the tub with no water and we played with toys. Or I'd put in a little water and then give him a treat. I made him take showers with me. He seems to feel like if I'm going through the ordeal, too, then it's ok. LOL

After looking at Buddy this morning he and I have another date. I didn't take nearly enough off his jowls! His face is way too full!

AND as usual his stomach was upset over the night.

DISCRETION ADVISED:At 3 am I was awaken by the urking noise of a dog heaving on the bedroom carpet. As I staggered into the kitchen to get some paper towels I stepped in... YEP YOU GUESSED IT! That was another LOVELY surprise! This time from the other end!! Thankfully it was on a rug that could be gathered up and placed outside until morning.

I went back to bed and at 4 am I was awoken by my thoughts when realized that the Vet had given me something for this!! So I got up... went to the Buddy medicine bin and pulled out the Flagyl. Then I found Buddy under the drapes and stuffed a pill down his throat! He seems ok this morning.

I'm thinking I need to put him on the grooming table more frequently just to piddle around seeing he gets his 'bowls in such an uproar' over it every time! He didn't seem upset, but obviously he was... and I had the mess to show for it!!

I trimmed both of my westies but they were always embarrassed by the results, lol.

We try to have Jolie professionally groomed a few times a year but I agree that I'm not usually happy with the results and WOW are they expensive.

Hmm ... the Westie grooming workout, coming soon on DVD. emoticon

I tried grooming MacDuff myself but it wasn't fun for either of us. He has good groomers who take good care of him. And should anything unpleasant happen, at least he's mad at them, not me. emoticon

OK, so I've been grooming Buddy now for over 2 years myself. There were a lot of reasons for me beginning this endeavor;

#1 Because I felt I could do a better job than the groomers in town they all seemed to make him look like a Schnauzer!
emoticon
#2 He always came back so stressed out! That couldn't be good!
emoticon

Now after all my trial and error, I'm getting pretty good (if I do say so myself) and Buddy doesn't seem to mind too much.

I've invested in clippers, scissors, thinning shears & a very nice grooming table. My first investment were the clippers and today I realized that I really should've invested in better pair of clippers.

I was wondering if any of you groom your own Westies and if so what grooming tools do you use? What tips to you have to share too?

I wish we could get workout credits for this! I spent an hour and a half over the grooming table... not to mention the time bent over the tub prior!! Hummm.. Must be worth something!
