Hello all, just joined the team and spotted the topic on Type 3 Diabetes...man is that scary or what. Going into your own cupboards how many things are "processed” and how and with what. I was told long ago that the first 10 things on a label is what something is made up of...that does not take into account what the rest of the "words" are, the ones you can't figure out without a physics dictionary and chemical table. People don't have/or take time any longer to eat properly, thus we are overweight or have leaning tendencies that way.

I do some canning with produce from the farmers market and some of the things from my little garden but that will not sustain us through the year. How can we make sure that the things that we put into our bodies (via processes foods) are not going to undo anything else we are trying to accomplish?

OK, off the soap box…
Lyn

that's some scary stuff to think about. i remember the deoderant and pan theroies but they have said they didn't cause it later. i hadn't heard of the chemo and heart surgery connections. i think it is so strange that older people have come down with alzheimers affecting their memories and brainfunctions and on the other end all the children that have come down with the different kinds of autism that is affecting their brain functions differently. there has to be something atmospheric or bodily obsorbed somehow to be causing these things. dementia has been here a long time but alzheimers is a newer thing. and also the autisms are newer too, they weren't around when we were kids. some feel the shots with mercury are causing the autisms but if it is the government will never admit to it because of lawsuits. i pray it's not because marleigh had those very shots in august even though my ds had said he wasn't going to let them give it all at once.

That puts some good perspective on it, Sandy. I can remember when my mother quit wearing underarm deodorant because she said it caused Alzheimer's. (Fortunately that didn't last very long!) Then there was the aluminum pan theory, so I guess that we really don't know what causes it. You're right that we need to try to live as healthy as we can until there is better research.

I also have been reading different articles, on this since I have type 2. It's kind of scary. I'm hoping this does not happen to me. But then again they are starting to think lots of stuff causes it. My mother in-law is in late stages of Alzheimer's and it's not something I would want to have for sure. She was not diabetic and took care of her self. She did get colon cancer and during treatment they overdosed her on chemo and that when she started with the memory loss and Dr's say they think it contributed to it. She went down hill really fast. My Dr. said they also think open heart surgery sets it off. So I really dont think they know for sure. All we can do is try and live as healthy as we can I guess.

I have type 2 diabetes, and I am trying to control it through a diabetic diet, exercise, and losing weight. This morning I ran across this article on Yahoo:

news.yahoo.com/skipping-processed-fo
od
s-prevent-alzheimers-161257510.html

They are basically saying that Alzheimers may be something that they are calling Type 3 diabetes because they think that it is related to insulin resistance, weight gain, and eating too much processed food. I have never heard this theory, but I have been working to get the processed food out of my diet for a while so I can lose weight and lower my blood sugar.

What is really scary to me is that the Alzheimers' organization is predicting a large increase in the number of cases of the disease in the next few decades. Does anyone else have any thoughts about it?
