Too funny, Kathy! You're right, though. She would hate it. I picked her up once when I thought she was hurt and she struggled to get out of my arms. I found some Pawz disposable dog boots that look pretty good. They're rubber and you can reuse them. I'm going to take her to the vet for a good check-up and ask them about how much walking is ok for her.

Those dogs really do get smart in a hurry when treats are involved! Funny about the "fake" pee.

Ha got the answer for Ailie except I don’t think she will like it…….get a back pack LOL Think the only way to protect them paws is to cover them up or carry her. Poor thing.

I’m still giving treats to Fosse when she pottys outside, she has gotten so smart she pulls a fake pee every once in awhile looks up at me runs over and says look momma what Ive done. I think I had this problem with my kids when I was potty training them…”Wave bye bye to the poo poo” and made it fun as we flushed the toilet….argh it isn’t cute when they are still doing it in the 3rd grade LOL.

Apple cider vinegar is good for almost everything! I wonder if Ailie would lick it off or just try to run away from herself!

She doesn't "scratch off" after she potties, but she follows the doxies around and after they pee, she pees over the top of it like she's the "boss dog" eliminating their scent or something. What's funny is that she's actually the low (wo)man on the totem pole!

LOL Buddy "scratches off" after he pees & poos too! That is just too funny! Just like a tuff guy saying, "Take that!" LOL

i'm sorry ailie has sore feet, i'm glad you got some answers. i do know you can't walk dogs on asphalt in the summer time because it will cause first degree burns on their pads. the boots are a good idea for her. my vet tells me to use apple cider vinegar on kirby joes feet when he hurts them scratching off after he pee's.

Thanks for all the great ideas, girls! I did some research today and found some disposable boots that you can use several times. Those would probably be a good idea since Ailie likes to walk in the mud and streams beside the trail. We have an animal supply store nearby, so I can probably find the Corona Ointment there, too.

When I had horses I used Phillips Corona Ointment (Antiseptic Dressing and Lubricant) for their hoofs. I still have a tin here and I see that it is good for "Household Pets" (I guess that would apply to our Westies & Cairns, although they like to think of themselves as 'humans' ... ha-ha!)

The can reads: "Household Pets benefit from soothing Corona, too. Apply Corona generously to relieve cuts, scratches, bites, sore feet and minor skin irritations."

When I walk on the dam there was a lady who had boots on her dog. At first I thought it seemed silly, but after much thought it probably was a good idea.

I liked these the best. They are like the ones the lady had on her dog.

You might try spreading bees wax on her paws before taking her on walks. Not that I have tried it but you need something to cover her pads unless she isn’t adverse to wearing booties. If she licks it off it won’t hurt her either.

My neighbor said she noticed the other day that Ailie was somewhat gingerly walking across our gravel drive on her way to greet her. She mentioned that her paws probably were hurting because she normally TEARS across anything to get to Gwen (her second "mom"). Ailie has been walking a lot of miles with me on an asphalt trail and I am wondering if any of you have any suggestions for sore paws. I went looking on the internet for ideas and stopped at "a paste of pine tar and fuller's earth." Not going there. LOL. Hoping some of you have some suggestions. I thought about using Udderly Smooth (the udder cream people use on their hands), but thought I'd wait for now.
Thanks!
