This is perfect timing for me. I've been doing a lot of emotional eating lately, blaming it mostly on my teens being snotty (am I really the adult here?). I know I must stop eating sweets and ignoring my blood sugar - I was doing so well just last week. I commit to start right now (not tomorrow morning even). I will track my food every day and avoid empty calories! Pray for me please! emoticon

Next I gotta ask, where/how do you get those cool graphs that show how much weight you've lost and where your goal is? emoticon

Hello All,

I hope that someone else is coming back to this team. I am not sure how this team is run. Do you post only once a month or is it an ongoing thing day by day.

I would love to recommit as well. I had stopped testing myself for a while because I had been in the low 80's to 90's the last time that I tested. I didn't see the need to test every day. Then I had another A1C done this month and it had gone up from 5.5 to 6.8. I was very disappointed in the results. So now I am testing back every morning only. My numbers have been from 191 to 242. So now I have to get back in the swing of things and try to exercise more on my recumbent bike and some other exercises that physical therapy have given to me. I am limited on what type of exercise I do because of my health. It is not that good.

I wish you all the BEST!

this eating right is the pits i eat popcorn last night and my sugar this morning was 142 that is way to high for a fast test why do i do this why can't i eat like a normal person. and for some reason i'm have trouble to get my fingers to bleed i have to stick myself sometimes 3 times to get enough to test.could that have to do with high test numbers?

Hi again everyone, I wish I could post more often. I had a hard time through Christmas but I think it was creeping up on me and I didn't make the proper preparations to keep me from tripping up. I didn't eat sugar or carbs but seems as if I grazed non-stop. My FBS was at 140 two mornings ago and I realized that the the glucose creep was sneeking up on me. Time to "buck up" and get with the program again. This means getting busy, staying active and planning meals that are healthy for the WHOLE Family. As my kids say "When mom gets on the ball again, we'll all be losing weight"

yep here I am again to make a difference. Since last posting I have had a knee replacement and have been going to the gym at least three or four days a week for an hour. I am also doing the PT exercises every day, so exercising has diffinately improved since the last post. What I have done that is a negative is failing to check my blood sugars in the morning and also at bedtime. Stupid move on my part because that encourages eating more calories or more carbs. So from today on I will go back to checking my blood sugars in the morning and before bedtime. I will continue my exercise schedule and perhaps try to make it five days a week at the gym and drinking enough water,

Well today I must recommitt to not only keeping my numbers low but to lose these pounds. I have difinately changed how I eat, I have not incorporated enough fresh vegetables unfortunately, I seldom cook anymore but my numbers are in the low 90's or high 80's. But here is the problem.

I am not exercising as much as I should, I am absolutely getting weaker by the day unfortunately, and my last A1C was 7.0 an increase. Disappointed is the word that described my feelings when I saw those numbers.

So today I committ to get to the gym every day for at least 30 minutes of a bicycle and stretching my legs with the big balance ball. Then return to doing my Physical Therapy exercises again and walking the loop in the house at least three times around.

Hi Everybody I have not posted much lately but have never forgotten my recommitment promise. Today my blood sugars are in the low 100's and my last A1c was 6.0
About a month ago they suggested insulin but at the time depression and suicide idealation was a huge problem. I just imagined that insulin would not be used appropriately sooooooooo begged them to not prescribe it. Wow am I glad about that today.
Let's keep working on this together we can encourage each other and win thanks for listening

Oh and Jay, good for you for working on it now when your numbers aren't that high - I wish I'd been more serious about it - I was for a while, then I wasnt, and now things are pretty different.

First goals:

5% weight loss - 18lbs - done!

nEXT: 10% - 31LBS.

reduce my belly measurements 5"
(down 2.5 now)

Get my blood sugar under control (with my meds, average glucose under 140).

Recommitting, me too! I wasn't testing hardly and was forgetting my meds often and my numbers were in the 200s a lot... like a lot. My weight seems to go up even when I am working at it - and all to the middle. Sigh. Need to work harder, and go get the dr to adjust my meds, I guess,

Hi all,
I am re-committing to healthy eating and a positive attitude. I am committing to taking charge of my diabetes treatment and being pro-active.

I am newly diagnosed, but I was very confused and I saw my doctor to discuss. My blood tests are high enough over time to be diagnosed with Type II. Also, with family history there is no reason to think otherwise.

However, the numbers are also low enough that I don't have to take medication or closely monitor my daily blood sugar. Turns out I am "a Type II who's disease is under control", per my doctor.

So doctor's orders are to continue to exercise, eat healthy, don't skip meals and eat healthy snacks in between, and continue to slowly lose weight. She expects my next lab test numbers to be very good, since I've lost about 20 lbs since I took my last lab tests. We'll see in May!

If it was easy to follow these "common sense" measures, I wouldn't be overweight and diabetic in the first place! So, I need to re-commit to a common sense lifestyle: to keep my diabetes under control and try to delay as long as possible any need for meds and more intense monitoring. emoticon

I'm glad to see that you are all still here! I lost 10 lbs and was doing great then let life side track me and have it all back! The aches and pains and lack of movement to go with it emoticon Time for me to start keeping track of what I eat and recording my excersize again, it is such a help. Then there is seeing that I'm not alone and you all have great things to say to encourage me. thanks for still being here.

While BS always goes up when you worry, there are things that you can do. My son-in-law is waiting for his travel itinerary to return to Iraq. He has worked on a military base for the last three years as a IT director in Western Iraq. He and my daughter have been married for 6 years and they have a set of twins who will be 4 in April. I know exactly what it feels like and the fears and worry that people deal with with sons, daughters and family in Iraq. I have learned that my focus needs to be on shopping for packages to send - looking for funny cards etc. I also play this weight loss game telling myself I have to loose so many pounds before he comes home...I lost 60 before Christmas! Is it difficult. yes, but they also depend on us to be positive. When you have diabetes you run a higher risk of depression but there are also ways to combat that. Talk to your doctor. Lastly, there are a whole lot of us who are emotional eaters....I being one of them. I now have replaced the need for crunchy foods with chewing on ice or when I am desperate cracking open sunflower seeds! Is this crazy....probably so. This year my husband had heart problems, knee surgery, I had a son-in-law in Iraq.....but I take a deep breath each day, say a little prayer and I am getting through it. Tomorrow is a new day...take a deep breath, you can do it.

Hi Lynn
BS goes up with stress. My prayers are with your youngest son. My children are grown now and I have no grandkids yet. the government has a mess which I being a nurse and a democrat haved worked on this subject for a long time. was always against the war in Iraq but very pro military my dad was military and mom British. I of course am US citizen but was myself born in england and my youngest daughter lives now in england mariied to a wonderful British boy. They have wonderful socialized medicine and she loves the healthcare system there. She says my grankids are LOL going to be double citizens as next year she will be citizen of both countries.

Sam,

I accept! Thank you for putting the challenge out there at this time. Gives me just the focus I need.

Sugars are 129 for the last 15 days. This is a relief they have been averaging much higher.

Thanks Sam,

Ok, my 15 day average is now 122!!! My 30 day average is 126! I am thinking about what I eat before I eat and it has become a good habit. I am eating three meals plus snacks and staying under my calorie count. I have lost weight, but more important I have lowered my dose of insulin and have stopped taking the "extra" pills for my diabetes because I don't need them!!!
How is it going for you Nellie?

That is great....S....Dar. Making good changes does help a lot. Seeing the change in the numbers helps me also. I found myself slipping this week and need to get back on track...which means...keeping track. I still have higher numbers in the a.m. but good low numbers late afternoon. Keep on ...and the next 15 days will be even better. Congrat's S.....Dar.
Thanks for sharing.
Today I caught myself wanting sweets when I was discouraged about a friend dying of cancer (she did pass away today, but she knew the Lord personally so I know she's with him today). I got upset that my brain said...I want something sweet to comfort me...and I did do that. It made me have yukky symptoms which I know made my b.s. soar. Hard to break a bad habit...but 1 day at a time is how we start..making it 15+ is even better. Great job...go for the next 15...and let me know the results. I'll be waiting to hear...and trust I will join you.

My 15 day average is 160!!!! My average was probably about 270 if I bothered to check my sugars before! I have more energy and I'm learning to eat to live instead of the other way around. My goal is to average around 120 - 140 in the next few weeks. Wish me luck!

ShrinkingDar, Patti and Sam...and any others I may have missed. Thanks for your posts.
I'm quite new here. I am making changes... I have been making some good changes recently and already see the blood sugars drop and scale. Basically started exercising (in water), walking and watching much more carefully what I eat. It works. I'st time I've seen scale go down in a long while.
-my goals:
-Love the Lord with all my heart, soul and mind and my neighbor as myself. (Matt. 22: 36-40)
-Be healthier, lose weight, lower my blood sugars, etc. so I can enjoy my hubby, family and friends and not hurt so much and enjoy all the beauty in the world the Lord has given me.
-Always have a thankful heart and confess my sins as I do them.
-Show others love and encouragement.

Hang in there all you who are struggling with body and mind and Trust Him and He will give you peace and rest and good health.

Have a great evening and stay warm (I'm in Green Bay Wi, where the Packers hopefully are going to win the game Sunday and go to the Super Bowl...Green Bay is a great place to live....GO PACK GO.

Thanks for your encouraging words...and recommitments....WE CAN AND WE WILL DO IT! and be healthier and live longer. Thanks for your encouragement!
A new friend/Nellie

I, too, have decided to recommit myself to change my lifestyle, for a number of reasons. I have been diabetic for about 10 years (I think), and I have progressively needed more medication to regulate my sugars. Currently, I take 1000mg Metformin twice a day, 45 units of Lantus each morning, and HumulinR at bedtime if my glucose reading is above 150. I have recently been on steroids, which really screw up my sugar levels, so they haven't been in the 80-120 range, no matter what I have done. Today, however, they are FINALLY back to normal! emoticon

Anyway, here are my reasons for recommitting (please forgive my thievery, SkinnySam!).
1 - To lose enough weight to NOT be diabetic anymore!
2 - To get off some of these meds I'm taking!
3 - To live longer and happier (and watch my adorable grandson grow up!
4 - To climb stairs or go walking without getting winded
5 - I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired.
6 - To never have to worry about fitting into a seat, amusement park ride, or booth again!

Ok,I have been an insulin dependent diabetic for the past 17. This is the first time I have been resolved to lose weight and manage (get rid of) this sickness. I know with God all things are possible and as His child, He wants to give me the desires of my heart. My desire is to beat diabetes so that I can grow old with my husband in health and prosperity.

Congratulations to all of you who have recommited! Let's do this thing together. I think the most important thing in all this is accountability. Let's stay active on the board here. The challenge post - sticky one at the top - is a great place to post about how your sugar is doing and how you're doing!

Good luck everyone. Stay strong.

2. watch the carbs, lay-off the pizza!
3. drink more water, easy,no diet soda
4. eat more veggies and fruit.
5. keep up the exercising, keep me movative.

I definately need to recommit to managing my diabetes. With kidney and eye problems it's obvious I haven't been doing well at all. Hardest thing for me to do....check my sugars at least 3 times a day. Most important thing for me to do....check my sguars at least 3 times a day.

YES I'M READY TO RECOMMIT FOR THESE REASONS
1] TO HAVE GOOD READINGS ON MY TESTS BEFORE AND AFTER MEALS.
2]LOWER MY INSULIN OR JUST STOP.
3]BETTER HEALTH FOR ME AND MY FAMILY.
4]LOSE WEIGHT WHICH IS HARDER ON INSULIN.
5]TO FIT IN CLOTHES WITHOUT EXTRA TIRES ALL AROUND.
6]THE ONE THING I HATE IS TO WORK OUT, NEED TO GET BACK ON TRACK.

MARY2222

GREAT IDEA SAM GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF US

This is a great idea,Sam! Just what I've been needing. Reasons...
1)I would like to get my diabetes under tight control
2)To get the fluid out of my feet and ankles
3)To have ENERGY and actually feel GOOD
4)To get some self esteem/confidence back
5)To be able to buy new clothes in a smaller size

5 - To look cute in great, skinny clothes!

Hello sparkers and fellow team members. This post is a challenge for anyone who will join me in recommitting to a healthy lifestyle.

Committing doesn't mean you have to be perfect. We're all going to slip and fall. It just means that we're going to try our best to choose health over the temprorary satisfaction of unhealthy foods and a seditary lifestyle.

Won't you join me in this challenge? If you agree to strengthen your resolve to choose a longer and healthier life, post your committment here. It doesn't have to be long or complex. Just a brief statement of why you want to do your best.

For some, this means completely starting over and recommiting. For others, it may mean posting your commitment to encourage others.

Let's keep going on the journey of Diabetics Winning the Battle!

God Bless,
Sam
