Hi Glenys, I am really glad for your weight loss. It is great and should help your diabettes greatly. If your sugars have been in good control then you should have no problems with your eyes because it is the high sugars that cause the blood vessels on your retina to burst and cause retinopathy. Let me know whow your eye exam goes. I'll be praying for you. Good luck.

God bless

Hi Sharon. I am sorry that I haven't got back to you- I haven't been online much due to a bad flare up of my fibromyalgia. I am sorry too that your grandaughter got ill and I praise God that she is OK now. My weight is coming down- I have lost 14lbs in a month and my doctor is pleased. My sugars are really good so far and there is no kidney damage. I have an eye exam 23 March. How are you doing?

Hi SELAHGIRL, I am also diabetic, My sister was diagnosed about a month ago and came to me for advice she is 58 years old. She knew that I have controled mine without meds. for over 15 years. (There have been a couple of times that when I was not eating right that I went on meds for a short period to get under control). In less than a week of proper diet my sisters Blood sugar was under control. If we will take it as a warning that there is a right way to eat diabeties can be a blessing. I will pray for you for wisdom (How to eat, when to eat, what herbs, and vitamins to take ,what excersise you should do,and for self control). I will also pray that God gives you a personal plan because there is a lot of help out there and everyone is different what helped me might not be right for you. God bless your journey, Scott

Glenys--I am 49, have around 105# to goal, and have been diagnosed for around 3 years. I still remember the frustration of trying to get a reading and going through 5 strips because I kept getting error messages. I remember feeling that it was too much.

It is not. You will even get to the point where it is not high on your everyday thoughts.

First--do the good for you stuff. Exercise---even if just for 10 min a day moving more than you did before. Just keep moving. Walking is what I am doing with a bit of lifting hand weights at my desk.

Food---start eating balanced meals. Yes you can still have carbs and sweets ect.... but just in moderation. Which means if you are REALLY high in eating one day...be REALLY good the next 4. Eat over the day, not just one binge meal at night. Try and get carb and protein at each meal. Fill up and snack on veggies over chips. BUT MODERATION and starting to track what and when you are eating are good places to start. Okay, this is what you have to do on almost ALL DIET PLANS---so nothing new here.

Water. This is a big one. Get plenty over the day. It will help even out LOTS in your system.

Now....keep a record of your BS readings. It is just good practice. Some days it will be GREAT! some days not so great. You are looking for more GREAT! readings than not. If your BS reading is HIGH--then get up and start moving. It will help to bring it down some. If you are always on the low side---then learn to carry a sugar in your purse in case it drops too far.

Listen to your DR. I have been steadily placed on higher doses of oral meds. I know that I am heading to insulin. I also know that I have to watch what I am doing---because I am dealing with a mother whose BS readings go from 120 to over 500. She does not care what she eats, and it is telling on her body. We are already having the doctor talk to her about amputations because of ulcers. (((You can just bet that after one of THOSE dr visits I become a BELIEVER in strictness for several days before old habits come back.)))

Hugs lady. Ask your doctor to set you up with a nutritionist if you do not have a good handle of what to eat or how much to eat.

Also, get with a support group. One that KNOWS you can LIVE with this. It is NOT a death sentence. It is a living experience.

Blessings and prayers
j

Hi again glenys, I forgot one tip. Eating cinnamon helps keep Bs in control. I eat it on many things, especially sliced apples. I also add Splenda to it for a Sugar and cinnamon mixture. MY mind keeps remembering things too late. Sorry.

God Bless
Sharon

Hi Glenys, Please don't be scared of this disease. There has been alot of terrible rumors told about it. First I also have hypothroidism, fibromyalga, and diabetes. I have had diabetes for over 20 years. I also started out on diet and exercise that led to different oral medications and then to insulin. Now I am on 2 forms of insulin. Lantus that is a slow release (24 hours) and novolog which is a fast release. I have to count the carabs that I am going to eat for that meal and check my blood sugar to see where that is. If it is low (under 70) than I don't have to take any unless I am going to eat alot of carbs. If it is high then I have to take 1 unit for every 10 carbs I am going to eat plus extra depending on how high my BS is. It is a real pain.

You have to try to control your BS very closely and you shouls not have many problems. I have neuropathy in both feet up to my knees and I feel nothing there, the nerves are just dead. MY right hand has got neuropathy in it now so I have to wear a brace on it, but I still have feeling in it. My left hand is just starting to tingle so it will be there in a year or two. My opthomolgist just check my eyes and said that there were no spots on the retina and if I get some he can correct that with laser. My eyes are what I really worry about.

If you follow your doctors orders you should not have any problems like me for maybe 20 or 30 years before anything happens. I am 60 years old so I got my diabetes in my 30's and thought nothing would ever happen but now I know different. Eat healthy and you should be good for life. Don't forget to exercise that helps lower the BS also. Good luck. If you ever want to talk about your fears just write and I will give you the support you meed.

God bless

Hi, I am Glenys of Australia. I was diagnosed yesterday with type 2 diabetes. I am 53, suffer from hypothyroidism, fibromyalgia and now diabetes. I need to lose about 110lbs. I am feeling scared and overwhelmed right now. The doctor hasn't got me on insulin or medication yet as he feels it can be controlled by diet and exercise. Please pray for me as I am terrified of eye problems mainly.

Blessings

Glenys
