I found this in a magazine snacking ideas.
I believe any recipe etc. can be modified for diabetic usage. (catagories go in sweet, nutty, crunchy, cold, creamy and comforting. catagories for choices of food are in best, better, and good. Best is the best choices of the other.

(please note that different foods affect our blood sugar differently. There are some foods I just can't have in big batches, so I have to just a taste if at all.)

Sweetness best choices:

1/4 cup low-fat granola with raisins sprinkled over 1/4 cup cup low-fat vanilla yogurt with a teaspoon of reduced calorie/sugar free maple syrup

1 poached pear drizzled with 1 teaspoon reduced-fat sugar free chocolate syrup.

2 roasted or grilled pineapple slices, dollop with 1 teaspoon low-fat sugar free yogurt on top (other fruits that work well on the grill are peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots and whole figs.

1/2 cup whole grain high fiber cereal (Such as Kashi) with 2 dried mango slices.

2 large chocolate-covered strawberries
(dark chocolate is best for the heart and doesn't contain so much sugar).

Soft peanut butter granola bar (no chocolate)

Nonfat cereal bar (one with at least 3 grams of fiber). I will post others later got to go take of my youner one. emoticon

Bravegary that is a good idea. I'll have to do some thinking and the doctor is right on about the binging thing. Glad I saw this. It may be just what I need. I'll have to omit the candy though.

I struggled with sweets too when I was first diagnosed. I tried the sugar free ones, and many of them are alright, taste-wise, but my doctor told me that if I cut sweets right out of my diet, I would crave them even more and binge on them. He suggested I eat my favourite sweets, just reduce the amount. So now, I will have just one cookie, or a table spoon of ice cream.....then I find that my craving has been satisfied.

Hope this helps.
Mike.

I found that I can't have candy unseetened or not I can't stop at one unless its chocolate. I really don't care too much for chocolate as strange as it may be.

If you like dark chocolate, it helps to have some of that on hand. It's better for you. Some sugar free hard candies might help with the sweet craving.

Who doesn't struggle with sweets. As soon as the doctor say you can't have them, thats the very thing you crave!!! Snacks come in fatfree/lowfat varieties. Puddings, angel cake with pureed berries over it tastes devine, they have cookies that are fat free, they have sugarfree yogurts if your into that. Kashi cereal tastes good for a safe snack. Not sure what your doctor has for your meal plan???? Just some ideas. Read labels though. Hope this helps.

Hello all,

As I said in my introduction I struggle with sweets. Can any of you give me some good suggestions? I get hungry during the day and eat bad and can't always get fruit or veggies.

Gary
