Hello All,
I am stopping by to see how everything is going with you all. It looks like you are doing some thing right. It shows up in your blood sugars.

I have been changing my diet for a while now and I can see the difference in my BS. My last one that I took this Halloween Morning was 101. I have been staying in the low numbers now for a long while, it really take a load off my mind knowing I don't have to worry about that everyday.

I wish all my friends and others who I would like to be my friends, the Best of Luck.

Your Friend DOT emoticon emoticon emoticon

Best wishes to all!

I will keep you all in my Thoughts and Prayers

Gosh, where is everybody??? My BS this Halloween morning was 81. I have lost 12 pounds in the past month. I am proud of the fact that I am making better food choices and that I can feel those results in lower blood sugars and higher energy levels. Happy Halloween!!!! emoticon

On Sept.29th my fasting blood sugar was 392. That was also the day I had an appt with a dietition who suggested that I should check out Sparkpeople. She even pulled up the site in her office and we registered me on the spot. I am so grateful she took the time to do that. Today is Oct.4th and my fasting blood sugar this morning was 102!!!! It has taken 5 days of careful carb counting to get into a normal range. I was 124 after lunch today. Thanks to the good people here on Sparks, I finally have hope and more confidence that I can do this. Please keep me in your prayers...

at the moment i am not on medication. i think my GP believes that if i get my weight under control and change my diet somewhat i will also have the blood sugars in control too. anyway will know more when i speak to the diabetes counsellor next week. at this stage i am just trying different foods to see what is good and what is dangerous and have found that bread from the supermarket and rockmelon are no go zones as both elevate my blood sugars very quickly.

I take 1000mg metformin 2x day and 45mg Actos 1x day along with Lantus 1x day. The only one that effects my blood sugar more or less immediately is the Actos. The other meds tend to take a long time to build up and wear off.

Funny that you are all talking about what i have noticed too. found that my blood sugar can be 6 or less at 9pm but when i wake in the am is over 7. thought perhaps it may have had something to do with so called 'fasting' and the body converting fat to sugar. anyway this morning is the first time it has been below 6 since i have been diagnosed a week ago. the only thing i did different last night was eat a very small portion of potato and substituted my normal serve of potato with sweet potato. dont know if this is the answer or not but am finding with just minor adjustments to my diet in the past few days i have been able to keep my sugars below 7

My blood sugars have been great lately. I take Metformin 1000mg twice a day--am and pm. My fasting reading today was 90 which is great for me----I was wondering if I go ahead and take my metformin, will it cause my blood sugar to go too low? I don't go back to the dr. until April and with no insurance I can't just go in whenever I want (can't afford it). I called the dr. office but of course they never called me back. I know that you are not doctors and can't tell me what to do I was just wondering what you think.

E011212: You made my day. I have felt desperate to figure out if I have diabetes and possibly the dawn phenomonon. Been trying to get info on it. I printed out the link you gave. Thank you so much. At one time it seemed I only had high b.sugars in the a.m...Recently it has progressed to other times...I'm going to try the vinegar thing. I also have sleep apnea and I think that influences it also. I had just left a message on the 'newby site re: diabetes a couple days ago but no one has responded. I was kinda scared when I took my b.s. and it was 261...right after eating some sweets and I normally don't ck. it then but was having some yukky feelings in my body. I really want to be healthier and not have diabetes. My last aic was 6.8 but the dr. said I do have it. I'm actually denying it. But trying to change my eating and exercise habits and starting to log my food on sparkpeople.com. It's a great website.
I want thank you for your input yesterday very much.

By the way, congrats on your 9 lb loss. Keep on keeping on and you will make your goal. I need to reset and make a goal. I am going to. I want to be healthier by making better choices.
Looks like this site is not very active??I'm not sure though. I couldn't believe you mentioned the very thing I wanted to learn about. Anything on the dawn P....will be great. (the Lord is good)
Well...I've rambled enough. Thanks for your support and help. Have a great week.

I tried a few thing to lower my morning blood sugar reading. Just before bed I have 2 tbls of vinegar, and little bit low fat chese, and 1 tbl of chia seed. My wife is a type 1, I am a type 2. Works for both of us.

So am I. I keep thinking it could be menopause. I'm exercising more than I have ever in my life. More careful of what I eat (although I know I'm not careful enough). I can go to bed with my sugars 7.4 and wake up with them at a 10.9. This is with adjusting my insulin. Frustrating.

My blood sugar reading is always high in the morning - could it be because I am going through menopause?

Just got back from my dr's appointment. Good news and bad. Sugars were/are way too high. (A1C was 10). Kidney function was good for a change (what a relief). I'm to go for my A1C every month for the next three months then see the specialist again in Jan (means I've got to be good over Christmas!). Should keep me on my best behaviour! I did tell my dr. about Sparkspeople. He hadn't heard about it before. He said he'd check it out.

My sugars have been all over the board the last two days. Need to re-commit to recommitting. It would be easier if I felt awful when my sugars are high. But I feel wonderful when my sugars are high. Feel tired or headache - not me. I feel on top of the world. This is not good! four11

Rawnee: I use a Gazelle Glider (can find them at Walmart). Started using it after a friend was told not to use his treadmill because of his knees. Love the Glider. My non-exercising 27 yr old son will get up at 5 am to work out on his. Check with friends that may have one and borrow it to see if this exercise will work for you before you spend the $$.

As for my sugars today.... high. 9.9 fasting and 15 after lunch (because I missed taking my insulin at work again!) They were 5.5 at bedtime last night so that's a big improvement. Now to get the rest of those #'s down.

I can say what make me happy is the sugars are
down when i stay away from eating too much of
the greasy stuff at work. I work doing dishes
at a local restuarent and it use to hard habit
to break of eating cheeseballs but now i leaned
more to the salads i make myself with grilled
chicken.

Hi everyone! I'm new to this team and my FBS this morning was 113. My dr. changed my med from metformin 1000mg 2X/day to Janumet (50mg Januvia/ 500 mg Metformin 2X/day). So far, my BS's have been better. I was diagnosed in April 2007, so I am very new to all this. Any advice you can give about when to test BS levels is appreciated!

Thanks!

I will post my fbs tomorrow, I went to water aerobics twice this week so maybe soon my stats will go down. Kristi

I started reading this thread from the bottom up and was amazed at the BGL readings you all are reporting! I'm 55 years old, was diagnosed in 2000, am classified as a brittle diabetic, and am on an insulin pump. I do a BGL reading approximately every 2 hours. I, too, can read 333 and then drop to 45 without warning. I have neuropathy in both legs and feet. I love to walk on the treadmill, but it's SO painful. 30 minutes on the treadmill and I'm down for the count for at least two days waiting for the pain to subside. I wonder if the exercise everyone is able to get in is what is keeping your numbers so low. If I can't walk is there another "pain-free" cardio I can do instead? I don't have access to a swimming pool, and trying to use the exercise bike has the same painful effect. I really want this to work, but I really feel limited and that's very frustrating. I live in a small mobile home and have to use a 3-step staircase to get in and out. I have GREAT difficulty using those stairs. HELP!

Hello:
I must say that you and I sound similar, I am diabetic, have neuropathy in my feet and still having the pain severe there also have it starting in the fingers too. I have had kidney cancer so one kidney is gone and I need to loose the weight and become healthier. I think you have done great and I want you to support and motivate me along if you will. I am 54 years old. And am willing to listen to your advice and accept all the support you will provide me.
God bless you success and motivation.

Hi everyone I know I haven't posted in a while but was busy with family things. I don't want to preach to you but you have got to eat every meal so that you keep those BS in the normal range. If they are to high now it waill eventually lead to complications and I am proof of that. I am what is sometimes call a brittle diabetic. My BS cam go from over 200 and then even though I am eating properly it will suddenly drop to 33 for no reason. I used to go into a coma when it was around 25 mow it can get to 33 and I have no symtoms to tell me that I am low. My husband can tell when it gets fraily low because I start talking a little differently. and them I check it and it is very low again. It happens real fast. I also have nueropathy in my legs from my knees to and through my feet. It used to be real painful but now the nerves have died and I feel nothing, it makes walking had but I still do it slowly. Now it is starting in my hands. I also have some kidney disease and have to take meds and drink lots of water. It is no fun. So while you are young and still realatively healthy do exactly what your doctor says and don't play with it until you get the complications. I just don't want you to go through what I am going through now. Just ask you doctors, diabetes can kill if you don't start taking care of yourself now. Especially the girl that found out she is pregnant. She has alot to live for. I am 61 and will try to live to 100 God Willing.

God bless
Sharon

well, I found out why my blood sugar has been out of whack--I'm pregnant!!! It was a nice surprise to us, we've been trying for 4 years. I started on insulin on Friday, and still trying to get my bs down. I am going to have to increase my dose by 2 units until it's where it's supposed to be, but I'll do anything for this baby! My husband and I have been eating really well, and exercising almost every day. I have lost a few pounds, due to nausea and such, but otherwise I feel great!

Gold--SHOULD we be tracking. Yes. Do we all ALWAYS do tracking? nah. After a few years, it gets to be like everything else...why bother, I kinda already know in my head where it will be within 10 points. But should I get back to it, yeah.

I like diabetidiva's goal.. I want to do it too, have a week of under 105 for my morning test before breakfast.
Someone asked if you keep a diary of time and blood sugar...Arent we suppose to do that? I'm new at this have been testing for about a month.
Is there something tried and true to lower the score: exercise, drinking water, that you all know about...avoiding corn is mine for keeping my score from jumping 30+points!Monthy average 115

I've gone back to eating following my meal plan, and started exercising again. Yesterday after exercising my bs was 115-yay! but it's back up to 199 this morning. I know it takes awhile, and I'm staying encouraged. I have seen a few pounds come off already too.

Things have gotten out of hand for me, healthwise. Yesterday my blood sugar was 241 (and this was the first time I'd checked it in quite awhile)and this morning it was 201. I've got to get this back under control. I'm trying hard. emoticon
