Wow I didn't realize my last post was in March. Have to get here more often.
CARLT11 one of the possible side effects of Metformin is that it can cause weight gain. Which is just what we don't need as D2s! Its been so long ago and I've gained and lost and gained again since I went on it that I don't remember if the effect went away as my body got used to it or if it is one of the reasons I lose so slowly but gain back so fast. Now that I am working an Intuitive Eating Plan with my suggested D2 nutrient ranges set by the diabetic management program here at SP I am losing slowly and in small amounts but I am losing and intend ro find out how to keep it off from now on. As one of there motivations sayings said: I am not losing weight, I intend to get rid of it entirely"
Have you talked to your Dr or Endocrinologist about this? They may know ways to counteract the side effect. It's hard to lose it when you are swimming upstream against that kind of obstacle.
Pampgal don't be angry at the foods for what you used them for! They are only foods and have their place in good nutrition if used correctly. Remember there are no such things as bad foods. Some foods are not the best choices for healthy eating if you over eat them. But any food can be enjoyed in a controlled portion once in a while. Make friends with your foods and use them for the right things now since they are obviously ones you liked to eat. Carbohydrates are fuel that our body needs to burn fats efficiently. If we don't get enough of them, our body stops functioning well.

Just dropping by after a lengthy chat absence. I'm workking at being low carb - it's a real paradigm shift for me. Between that and upping the Metformin my blood sugars were so much better!

Now I can be angry at the breads, potatoes, pastas and desserts for what I've used them for.

Have a great (planned) day!

I've found it very difficult to lose any weight since I've been put on metFormin. I gained about 15 pounds over 6 months even though I was very careful about what I ate.

Has anyone else in this forum run into this situation? I find it very distressing.

I take cinnamon supplements daily. It really seems to help keep my blood sugar down. It's supposed to help you lose weight also, but I'm not seeing that effect as much.

Hi All
I read a good article on Web Md about controlling blood sugar and wanted to share something with you all about combining carbs and protein. I have had D2 for 20+ years and just learned about this. Goes to show there's always something to be learned if you keep searching. Hope this helps someone:
how to combine foods or supplements to lower the effects of grain or starchy foods.
Examples are:1 when you eat a starchy and/or high carb food you must add a good healthy fat and protein such as almond butter, seeds or even peanut butter to stop your body from absorbing these starches or carbs and raising your blood sugars to fast.
2. Never eat a fruit or fruit sugary desert with a starchy or high carb meal the fruit mixes with the starch and actually accelerates carb digestion into your blood stream.Wait al least 1 hour between the meal and the desert.
3. Supplements like 1 tbs. of cinnamon and/or protein powder will also stop your blood sugars from raising as much.

Hello 15 what would you do inside if you weren't snowed in? Try going thru as much of your normal routine as you can, and maybe try some indoors walking while watching tv or internet to keep you busy instead of eating. I am presently recovering from a stomach ablation, but keeping busy posting on here to encourage others and answering my sparkmail is keeping me so busy I don't have time to eat. If you find reasons and ideas for succeeding you may be less likely to feel bored and chow down.

We must all watch what we eat. Even after Gastric Bypass.

I eat 3 meals a day. Right now all I can eat is 2 tablespoons of a protein that is on my special diet list for the stage I am on. I hear later on down the road I will be able to get in 3-4 ounces at a meal. I also drink 2 protein shakes a day and the rest is fluids, fluids, fluids and my vitamins.

Watched 20/20 last night which show cased people who lost 1/2 their body weight. It was a life changing event for them. These people also talked about how easy it would be to fall back into old habits. Once they found a healthy eating plan that worked for them they stuck strictly to it. Good advice for all of us.

A good friend of mine wants to loose weight together. After one week she usually has all kinds of excuses for falling back to her old habits. I'll try and support her but I am going to get my support on this program where people are really serous about getting healthy. Doing well so far today and will keep it up. Michelle

I just had surgery on 12/17/12 and when I was discharged from the hospital that Friday I went home without my diabetic meds. I no longer have to take them. I do check my FBS daily to keep up with it.

I fell off the wagon during this season but saw the nurse practitioner yesterday and decided to day I would try again. I can only do this minute by minute. Just finished exercising and need to track all food. So will try again. Hope all are having a great Christmas.

Well trying to eat healthy one meal at a time. Volunteered to give flu shots and wouldn't you know it is at a store in front of a candy display. Failed once but that was it.

Well didn't do too bad this weekend. I am so proud of my husband - I noticed that he has also been eating less. It would be so much support if he would join me. Went out to eat with a friend and ate a salad. So will keep rolling.

Keep going BMCOLLEY just take it easy. Good Luck.

Sounds like you have a plan, WARMHEART1.

I have gotten in some exercise; however, I had to stop early because of pain in my calves. I am going to keep working until I build them back up.

Did well yesterday with eating healthy and exercising. Have had a good beginning today. Did some circuit training this AM and will take a walk during lunch break. Tomorrow is going to be difficult but I'll exercise before company comes. I'll load up on turkey and vegetables instead of all the other stuff. Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!!!!

Hello everyone!!!

I am new (once again to SP) and have restarted my program. I never wrote any messages before, and lost my motivation, so I am giving this a try. Carol6X, you are such an inspiration! With everything you have gone through, I can only imagine the pain that you have gone through. I wish you well on your surgeries and changing in meds.

My doctor has changed mine as well. I am now on Victoza and feel like crap. I was warned about it being like that for a couple of weeks until my system gets used to it. Last night I went for a walk and was able to do a couple of blocks. I have osteoarthrits in my knees and 2 months ago, I broke my ankle. But when I see people on here, like Carol6X, who persevere through it all, I am inspired to push myself. Thank you, Thank you, thank you!

Have a great day all! Positive energy from this point on!!!!

I had a great week off and I got accomplished everything I wanted to do. I am very proud of myself and what I have done and it feels great and my house has never been cleaner. It felt great and I had a great time doing it. I even ate healthy and took care of myself in all aspects of my life. emoticon

Have a great day!!!

My doctor changed my meds not to long ago and I am finally seeing the results on the scale.

Now, I have a consult coming up on August 7th with an gastroenterologist at my hospital to set up an appointment for my Colonoscopy. It seems ( I heard from my close relatives) that my family has a bit of a history with Colon Cancer and so I want to get screened for it.
Besides the prep itself should help me lose a few more pounds. emoticon emoticon

I am also starting over!
Today is the first day of the rest of my life!

If you are tired of starting over, stop giving up !

Hello everyone
I'm type 2 diabetic using 5 tabs metformine a day...

i just got back ftom the chemist with my sugar meter so i'm gonna start all my teams again from first week as i got waylayed with severe cramps and lost the motivation to track.. i have been exercising but only occasionally and not really tracking.. I miss it because it really helps with watching what and how much i eat and for me a diabetic its really useful as SP give suggestions to what food is better for me and the proportions too... its th first time on a site and to track...i feel lucky that i found SP first....................

i saved money to buy this meter (on sale)with 50 strips as it was cheaper than buying th 50 strips onlyfor my other meter, so ive invested in it so i can now find out how the food is affecting my blood sugar..

i started in february i did lose 5 kilo's...... now im starting over again.. so im gonna read all the instructions for the meter and then i'll either start tomorrow or friday...
good luck all with your goals

I am finding out what I need to change in my eating habits by tracking my intake of food. Plus because I am starting that my sugar levels have came down from before.
