Had a great thing happen to me! I wanted a new swim suit and cover-up. I don't need them, but I just wanted them. It was a really pretty Hawaiian print and I thought I would get it as a reward for losing weight and sticking to my diet. I figured it would go on sale after the 4th of July. Well, it didn't.

So I decided that I was worth it and would pay full price. I took 2 sizes back to the dressing room. Both of the ones I tried were way too big and even funnier...the style just didn't look good on me. So not only am I feeling good about losing weight, I saved the money for a suit and cover-up I really didn't need!

Had a colonoscopy a couple weeks ago at the V.A. and weighted 48# less than last time I was at the V.A. doctor! It was nice to have the nurses congratulate me over and over again. Will be interesting to see how my regular NP feels about it when I see her on the 16th.

I've been doing really well talking myself out of buying stuff on sale. The "Would you pay full price for it?" question helps and also just the true desire to have less stuff to deal with. I've also been going through lots of boxes to donate to the upcoming rummage sale at the Senior Center. Some of the boxes haven't been opened in over 15 years...and it's been hard but it's also been a great trip down memory lane and feels good to be finally able to deal with letting go!

emoticon down another 1.6# from last week!! Sadly I had a few days of cheating. Could have done better! The taste of the food never lasts or feels as good as seeing the number on the scales move down. Need to Get serious about tracking food again. Would like to be down 10 more pounds by my doctor's appointment on July 16th.

Thanks for joining in the challenges. I like that it's so easy to track and you earn spark points for doing it. I just started with the rainbow fruit and veggie challenge over a year ago and have joined other challenges along the way. That prompt that comes in the e-mail every morning helps me focus on drinking water, eating my veggies, getting in my fitness!

Got up and made breakfast for my mom, finished up her dishes, brought over some of the groceries I picked up for her last night at WalMart. Now to get to the bathtub for a quick bath and then head out. Going to Ft. Assiniboine to see the Living History events. Cannons, black powder rifles, the barracks and officer's quarters out there. Then back to town to check in at the railroad museum and see if the doctor I used to work for is there playing with his trains today. Then a threshing demo up at the fairgrounds at 2. Then I should be home by 3 and get my chores done.

Have to get some plants in the ground! Need to put in my window a/c. Got mom's in last evening in the kitchen and bedroom on her side of the duplex.

Am throwing in laundry as soon as I get out of the tub and will continue that later this afternoon. Looks like a sunny, smoky day and I'm excited to get started and to begin work on my June goals!!

"When babies take their first step and then fall on their bottoms we praise the first step. We don't criticize the fall. I think we adults could learn a lesson here. We spend more time criticizing our falls and not enough time applauding our small steps." - Unknown

I think this is such a great quote I've shared it in several threads and on several teams. Have really been getting things done. Sure feels good. I'm not even going to question why but I just get up in the morning and start and don't take a break until it's time to come in to fix supper and watch the news and Jeopardy!, then back out to keep going until the sun goes down. I'm doing the kitchen, the yard work- boy there are a lot of weeds, seperating for the donations for the rummage sale and trying on clothes. If it doesn't fit, it has to go...too big or too small, no excuses (well, a couple) but I think I'll have half the clothes and half the stuff in the kitchen if I keep it up!

Had a really productive day yesterday going through kitchen cabinets finding things to donate to the upcoming rummage sale at the Senior Center! So much accumulated over the years, lots I will never use again. Feels good to empty a cupboard and wipe it down and put in fresh shelf liner. I think it's been over 10 years since I did a really thorough job. Will keep it up today! Have 2 moveable cabinets that are in need of paint!

Hi, dropped some clothes and shoes off in a donation box yesterday. Will get some other things out of the house today. I haven't done much here for a few weeks. Need to pick it up again. Reducing the paper clutter is my main target. Enjoy your weekend!

Making progress and will pick up speed when DH is finished with the semester.
I really like Marie's method of getting stuff out of the house before storing.
We have so much storage - that's dangerous!
I have shevels that I will keep empty and I haven't been buying anything.

I've been strictly Keto since February 1st. Decided I'd eat whatever I wanted on Easter. Bought a bag of black jelly beans. Got raspberries, blueberries and frozen cherries. Made lemon bars, cheesecake (which I can eat on Keto), pineapple. I eat deviled eggs almost daily so not today! I tracked it all. Only ate a lemon bar, pint of raspberries, 1/4 cup of both blueberries and pineapple. Didn't even open the jelly beans! I'll take them to a friend tomorrow! The ham was wonderful and so was the yam loaded with butter. I made mindful choices and feel good about it! The dogs gobbled down the leftover yams!

We strolled in the sunshine both this morning and just after dinner! Turned out to be a sunny day after raining all night! Squirrels out, robins building nests, yards and flower beds are greening up! No tulips or daffodils blooming yet but not far off. All in all it was a great day!

Becca ~ Nice closet and kitchen
Linda ~ Great Job!
Our neighbors put trash and yard waste in community center's dumpster. My friend lives in Milwaukee and yard waste is put along the curb for city pick-up. We saw it on the last pick-up in Fall and plies were so high like a snow storm.

Getting started is the hardest part. 4 major projects
1. Clothes 2, Books 3. Garage and 4. Bathroom closet.
I'll tackle the Bathroom closet first. In the past, I was able to get it done and the closet stayed clean for a long time since I don't use many hair and make-up product anymore.

Had another productive day! Did several loads of laundry! Bedding and linens mostly. Time to pack away the piles of winter blankies!! well, soon! Going to part with a few comforters and bedspreads! Some just don't match the decor anymore! Some I will vacuum deal to keep in the car for emergency!

Filled a big black garbage bag with clothes to donate! Washed lots of dishes and took stuff out of the cupboards and wrapped for donation! Sorted magazines and ended up with about 1/2 inch of articles or recipe or craft ideas and a whole brown paper garbage bag to recycle!

Now to haul garbage so the dumpsters are full for the garbage man in the morning. Have another 55 gallon drum of yard waste I raked up before the rain came and will fill with a brush pile that has been in the alley all winter! The city said they would not be picking it up so this is my thumb my nose at that idea! I sneak it in after dark!

I filled a 55 gallon garbage can twice with yard waste! Thinking it was Tuesday and the garbage truck would be here in the morning! So I got plenty done - emptied the shopping cart I rescued from near the dumpsters last summer and took it back out there! It wasn't that practical and I was just storing more junk!

Set up 2 6-foot tables outside my kitchen door so I can use them to sort more items for donation or dumping! Feel good about it and laughing about how much I dumped because I thought it was garbage day eve! Hoping for a repeat performance on Tuesday!

Looks great! My kitchen is smaller than that!! At least you have way more cupboards than I do. I have really high ceilings so put shelves up high and in front of windows I never use to store small appliances. Thinking of just taking out the windows. Radiator in the middle of the wall so no room for cupboards anyway!

Yum. I am hungry now after catching up on the thread!

Wanted to share a few pics. Below is the tiny closet where I found so much stuff, the lamp taken to goodwill, tons of umbrellas, and a beautiful picture now hanging in my room, along with other stuff! I really don't know how it fit!

Below is a working kitchen. I work a lot in here. Little by little, we got all new small appliances. It looks great!

Took my mom to Ethel's 90th birthday party. It was 2-4. See got there at 2:40 and there were only 5 pieces of cake left! I skipped the cake& I've cream and just had coffee! Huge turn out!

Stopped by the dinner& silent auction to show support for 2 friends headed on a medical mission trip to Africa May 15th.

Tonight was a Mexican buffet for Ethel's family. Had pork carnitas and a taco bar, rice & beans and tortillas. They were really happy with the food again. I was too! Lots of healthy choices and I saved some back for me for this week. Love that Pico de Gallo and avocado! Cinnamon rolls are in the frig to rise in the morning. Brunch is from 11-1. Only one group leaves early. I think the rest will go to church w/Paul & Ethel? It's been fun to meet these people. Glad I could contribute to their celebration!

I posted on one of my teams about hitting the plateau on the scales but instead of getting discouraged by it I tried to look for the NSV's. One of them is that all my jeans are falling off! I can pull them down without unbuttoning or unzipping them!!! That video by Butter Bob called "Butter Makes Your Pants Fall Off" is true!

I really need to get busy and find a gym! Only 2 to chose from but haven't been to either one!?? Been working in the yard. Dog poop clean up should be finished tomorrow (Saturday)! Need to fence off the day lilies and tulips that are coming up next to the house. Stupid dogs are chewing on them and getting the runs! They like green stuff! Just came home from Wal-Mart! Bought broccoli and snap peas for them. I put dried parsley in the dog food I make for them but wanted some fresh! Wally's was out!

I finally stopped at Jan's office and dropped off my bills for Harvest 2017 and 2018. She wanted to go home & get a different check book to pay me. I told her no biggie. I'd just stop by on Monday and pick it up. She was so nice about it! I had just been dreading how angry she would be with me! She said it was great because she really needed the tax deduction. I can't even begin to tell you how relieved I am to have it done! So many things hanging over my head and a great weight has been lifted.

Sadly, one of the guys on the harvest crew was sick when harvest started. He found out he had lung cancer about a week in to harvest. He died around the first of October. I had no idea. Never did know his last name even though I fed him for over 10 years during harvest? Even if it had been in the paper (and he lived in a little town 40 miles away w/no family but his cousin, who also works for Nick, so it probably wasn't in the paper) I wouldn't have recognized the name.

Paul's Mom's 90th birthday is next Saturday! I'm fixing the dinner for the out of town guests on Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday Brunch. Only 26 at the most - plus snack kind of food for those running in and out at Paul's! I really like his mom! You'd never guess she was 90!

Taking a class on grant writing on Tuesday in Chinook (about 20 miles east of here). Thinking about applying for 2 jobs with the county. One as administrative assistant to the county commissioners the other running the kitchen in the Boys & Girls Club! I'll decide this weekend! I could use the money, but mostly it's just that I Get more done and feel better about life if I am working. Just having to get up and dressed every day! The dark clouds that have been hanging around me seem to be lifting - finally and THANK GOD!!

I have been cooking lunch at the senior center this week. The seniors are so very appreciative and always compliment me on the food. As arrogant as it sounds, I know that I am a very good cook. I have done it for years and trained with a chef when I was young so I have always used fresh ingredients and made my own sauces. But it's still nice to hear.

But the real pat on the back was 2 different women who told me how good I was looking, like I was losing weight! I was so thrilled. Feeling bad that I had only lost a pound last week even though I can pull my jeans on and off without unzipping them! So the NSV's have not been enough for me and I needed to hear it!

I am also thrilled that I found one of those little 'free libraries' at the local IGA grocery store. 4-H kids have converted some old newspaper machines. I have been dropping off bags of books every trip I make. Feel really good about that!

I am looking at all the 'holiday' stuff that I have - that I buy "for a really good deal" to take to the senior center or the nursing home. I am so proud of myself for not buying ANYTHING holiday related lately. I just kept asking, "would you pay full price for this?" and the answer was a resounding "NO!".

We celebrated Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, birthdays and Valentine's Day while I was in Oregon and guess what...the cards were the only thing we needed. No special decorations, table cloths, napkins, paper goods. And it made no difference to the level of fun that we had. That was a great lesson for me. I had intended to take along several different kinds of paper goods but when it came right down to it, and the weight of suitcases, I left it home.

Got rid of all the bags. But even better I didn't buy a single thing to bring home. Really had to reign myself in a couple of times but kept asking "would you pay full price for this". and that seemed to work.

Also didn't bring home some of the gifts...books I had already read and some kind of echo dot thing that I had no intention of ever using. It was fine.

So I have so many bags of clothes and boxes of stuff it is going to be hard to get my luggage in the car to go to the airport. Will feel great to take all that stuff to the rescue mission thrift. I have a couple more bags of clothes and wonder if I will be able to fit them into the car. Then there is a local ad asking for work clothes for a Dress for Success thing they are holding. I was tempted to get the bags out of the car and go through them but I am not going to do that. No regrets has to be the motto!!

Good progress today. As I get rid of stuff, I'm organizing even more. This feels good!

How about a challenge for February? There are 28 days...I'm getting rid of 196 items or more this month. Pen, clothing, books, empty containers, a blender sitting on the shelf.....whatever. Donate, recycle, or trash it. I'm already at 46 items and have a few areas to tackle tomorrow to get rid of more stuff.

It's also time for a trip to one or more donation centers and to recycling bins. All are within 3 miles of me, so I can do frequent trips and it feels great to move stuff out of the house.

Who else is in?

6 boxes of stuff and 11 black garbage bags of clothes to take to the thrift store when I make my drive to the doctor tomorrow. Matched up more socks, I need to get rid of some of them. I have lots of 'holiday socks' although most of them are snowflakes and snowmen so they work all winter. Only have a couple pair for Thanksgiving but lots of Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day and Easter. I need to limit them. I think someone else might like them. Would you ever buy used socks...even in perfect shape?

Have been going through clothes again! Had a basket of socks without mates! Dug out a basket of socks from around the bed (looking for the credit card). Matched up most of them! Tossed a few! I can see the hardwood floor in the bedroom! Have 2 more bags of nice work clothes and a bag of warm shirts to go to the thrift store next week!

Hallelujah!! I found my credit card! It was on the floor under some books and clothes right next to the bookcase head board! I cleaned out the bookcase headboard thinking maybe I had set it up on top of shoved it into the book case! I usually keep it in my under wear drawer. Last place I used it was 2 months ago at the veterinarian office!

I was just barely holding it together! I called Alaska airlines about if I could pay cash for my luggage! One trip they really hassled me about it but couldn't remember where! The rep said they gladly accept cash. But I was still freaked out about where it could possibly be and all the usual beating myself up about "how can you be so stupid"!

During the treasure hunt I filled 2 garbage bags with papers, torn out magazine articles, and garbage - socks with no mates, gloves with no mates, etc. Also found several cards - birthday cards I can take with me for Roz and Mark, Valentine's for next month, sympathy & Get well and even some hysterical St. Patrick's day cards! Found a check from my insurance company from 2016? And $16 - mostly dollar bills wrapped up in receipts. Change from purchases I just wanted up and stuffed in my pocket!

Now to finish packing, haul garbage and wash the dishes!

I was doing great until I started to get ready to go up to the vet's to pick-up a prescription of Gussie's Cushing's meds. I couldn't find my credit card. I have looked high and low. Pretty much in full panic mode. I tried to play it cool but inside I feel like I'm dying. I'm pretty sure I have to have a credit card tomorrow at the airport for luggage. I will be up all night looking.

I made a huge dent in the bedroom and I also got my bill put together to give to Jan so I can get paid for harvest. I am actually dreading giving it to her since it is for both 2017 and 2018. I am such a meatball. It only took me about 2 hours once I found all the stuff.

Have 3 bags of garbage and 2 more bags of clothes to take to the thrift store in Great Falls. I stashed a couple pair of jeans I wanted to keep but can't get buttoned...but I know I will. I pulled them out of the stash pile and put them in the bag. My mom was telling me how great this one pair of jeans looked and was mad that I put them in the donate bag...BUT...the are too low-waisted and the pockets don't hold anything. I only liked the way they looked but they weren't comfortable. Had to go..
emoticon

emoticon Becca! I feel like I just shifted the piles and would really like to find a big patch of hardwood. Maybe before I go to bed tonight!

Don't ever be embarrassed about how you feel! It took me years of therapy to understand that feelings are neither right or wrong, they just "are"!

I grew up in an environment where we didn't show our emotions or discuss how we were feeling or what was bothering us. I think my over-eating was a way of stuffing feelings back down, kept me from talking about them and it "comforted" me!

I am a cigarette smoker. I had a therapist years ago who was also a smoker. She said that she had just taken a class and that patients should not be allowed to smoke during therapy sessions because it made them less honest about their feelings. It was very interesting and we both determined it was true! Before I talked about something uncomfortable, I had to dig out a cigarette, light it, put the pack and lighter away while I "organized" my thoughts! And the inhaling of the cigarette was a way of not only stalling, it was a way of sucking those feelings back down!

I didn't associate it with eating until years later! I know it's hard to share feelings. I think that's why my blogs are mostly jokes! We all want to be seen as happy, got-it-together people! ...the "never let 'em see you sweat" mentality.

Share what you need to share! If it's uncomfortable to blog about it, share it on one of your more trusted teams or in a spark mail to one of your more trusted Spark Friends! It really does help sometimes to just get it off your chest! I have found wonderful support and inspiration here on Spark People! I think we can write stuff we would not say out loud to those people in our real lives!

I think that's what I like the most about this team! I can write stuff I need to say or process!

I have posted this on a couple different threads here tonight! Came out in a goodie I was sending to a Spark Friend who deleted a blog she wrote where she felt like it was "too whiny" . Now I'm thinking about how it relates to my hoarding. Some interesting thoughts I'll process and share tomorrow!

Great! Good job Linda! Keep going! Get rid of this pile and you may be surprised how easy it is to get rid of more. I can pull more out of my closet because it doesnít fit, havenít worn it etc. etc. Not ready yet. But, George Forman Grill goes! Iíve got a vase that can go too. I rubber banded the original instruction book, and a recipe book to it. Forgot to pull the piece that fat drips into. Will get that in the morning. Iíve tossed a bunch of miscellaneous things into a cardboard box. This goes into the trash tomorrow! Another bag of recycle papers is almost full.

emoticon emoticon Way to go, Janet! Way to go, Becca! I have one of those portable clothes closets (for lack of a better description) that I bought about 3 years ago. Still in the box emoticon
Took it out and put it together so I could use it as I go through these piles of clothes. It is slow-going as I am doing several things at once, but I'm being brutal about what I'm keeping! Have another big black garbage bag to take to the car. Nice jackets, blouses and pants for work. I don't think I'll ever have an office job again! I am keeping my favorites only if they fit and if they can be worn with more than one other thing. I had 2 blazers I struggled with! One I just loved but it was "snug" and the other I never really liked but always got lots of compliments on. In the end, both went to the bag!

I am ashamed of how much there is to go through but working on it anyway!

Arm is still sore and suppose it will be for a couple of days but I have stayed pretty busy. I baked a german chocolate cake for my mom and then found out she had eaten the frosting out of the containers so had to run out to Wally World for frosting. I can't believe she has never had a weight problem with the weird way she eats and her addiction to chocolate.

Several more things I tossed from the cupboards and half a box more of items to take to the thrift store in GTF. Plus got laundry working!

My left arm is sore from the flu shot and I am moving pretty slow today from the chores yesterday. It always feels good to be able to just keep at it when my body is agreeing to do it. Hardest thing was moving that a/c.

I got tired just reading about all u did! Good for u!!

Dib and dabs for today: continued cleaning off my bedroom chair...almost done; did some bedroom organizing and feel better; cleaned off dining room table in dinnette; broke down some boxes and recycled; took jewelry out of a few small boxes and put it in my jewelry box.

Even these small things help!

Dealing with very low energy and trying not to fall into walls. Frustrated with my physical self. Will go to neurologist after widespread flu has passed here.

My friend, Paul, was just telling me last night about his Instant Pot. They are "all the rage" ! He said it makes great BBQ ribs in 25 minutes and he used it on Thanksgiving to do the mashed potatoes in 15 minutes. He bought it last year for $115 and has used it 4 times? Plus you have to store it? No thanks! Low and slow in the crock pot for this old fat girl! PLUS I use them to haul good to the fields for my harvest crew! I dumped spices and put more kitchen things - pans, cake pans, spatulas, assorted sizes of mixing bowls, mugs I got as souvenirs, etc. into 2 boxes and hauled them to the garage to take with me next week when I head to the airport! Our Salvation Army store closed in October?

Did my last day of 3 meals/visits with my old couple, Pat&Rosie, today! Was just filling in for the regular caregiver for 2 weeks! Had to go get a lock pick thing to break into my pick-up. Key would not open the driver's door! I just bought it right before harvest started and the passenger door had same problem! So it's just been sitting for a month! Took new window blinds out of it and stashed them in the garage! Loaded up towels, blankets, a big unopened bag of dog food a guy at the senior center gave my mom and a whole lot of cat food and cat treats my neighbor gave me because her 22 year old cat just died on 12/30. Dropped it all off at the animal shelter! Returned my old dead battery and collected the core charge ($12). Receipt dated 11/30!!!
Filled the pick-up with gas because we're headed for those single digit temps and snow on Thursday!

Parked it in a different spot to make it easier for my mom to get in and out of the garage! Took down the lighted Christmas tree from the front yard, rolled up the extension cord and put them back in their spot in the garage! Put the window a/c in the shed! It's been sitting in the wheel barrow since I took it out of the window a couple months ago?! Hauled my big plant containers (pots and long window box kind) to the garden and dumped the soil and neatly stacked them up. Put the wheel barrow against the garden fence. Moved the patio chairs to the garden. Will cover that stuff with a tarp tomorrow! Too much crap in the shed so have to store it and the lawnmowers in the garden over the winter.

Felt good to get it done. My mother has been nagging me about the junk backyard for weeks.
Ran up to the VA clinic and got my flu shot. Then went to Pat&Rosie w/curried chicken rice soup and made a nice salad and warmed up rolls I baked yesterday!

Had a really busy Tuesday but got a lot done! Was very depressed when I woke up but the more I got done the better I felt! My hands are raw & red from the wind! Only got to 28 here today. Snow supposed to start late Wednesday night, early Thursday morning! 2-4 inches. We're 15 inches below normal. Yikes!

Put some coconut oil in my hands and then cotton gloves! Time to read myself to sleep!

Am feeling better, emoticon ! Will be glad to be done with the 7 days a week with Pat & Rosie on the 16th. I wouldn't want to do it on a regular basis. One great thing is that the weather has been so mild and wonderful and no snow for January.

Great progress, ladies!

Hope u feel better soon, Linda.

Yesterday, I filled a 33 gallon garbage bag full of old stuff from under my sink. It is a miracle, it all fit under there!

Also, cleaned out some old cans and spices in the kitchen.
