Hope everyone is having a good week so far!

Is anyone NOT having unusually hot temps right now? We're having record-breaking heat and tons of rain - makes for a real humid, swampy feeling. Yuck! Makes me very thankful for air conditioning!

Hugs,
Lucky

Lynda,

What wonderful news! I'm happy to hear that you're gaining your strength and energy back! Please do be careful! I can easily see you turning into the Energizer Bunny and trying to get a lot of things accomplished before the surgery and the renewal of vows. Please don't over-do. I worry about you!

Many hugs,
Lucky

I'm beginning to get my energy back. I refer to it as my energizer bunny. He's been gone for so long I despaired of him ever returning. I don't know if it is just part of the healing process or because I'm able to exercise for the first time in months. Whatever the reason, I'm glad he's back. I just have to be care to not over do it which I WOULD NEVER DO! HA! HA! I do give God all the praise and glory for my improved sense of well being, both physically and mentally.

Lynda,

I understand about the surgery and getting your vows renewed. And your dress still fits - you must be over the moon! I understand that it doesn't always work that way!

Have fun with the photos! I bet you've got some wonderful memories preserved!

Hugs,
Lucky

Hi Lucky,
They have to do one more test which requires general anesthesia then they can schedule the surgery. At this point, I don't want the surgery before August 23rd because our anniversary is on the 22nd and that's when we renew our vow. I don't want to be in the hospital for that or laid up at home and unable to do it at all. It's only a little over a month away so I don't see the harm in waiting until then.

I had some fun yesterday. I got my wedding gown out of it hermetically sealed box which was in the attic just to see if it was in one piece after 40 years. My best friend came over and helped me. Except for a little yellowing it is in great shape. And surpise, surpise -- it fits! I felt like a little girl playing dress up, but what fun it was. Since I don't have anyone to pass it onto, I'm going to sell it to the local dinner theater as a vintage wedding dress.

I've also started a project that I may finish when I'm 99 -- organizing our photographs.

I hope that you have a blessed day, everyone!

WhooHoo! The embollism is gone! I still have to do the shots until after my surgery, but it is GONE! The tumor continues to grow, but now that the embollism is gone I don't have to wait for 6 months to have the kidney removed. I am one happy camper.

I pray that you all have a great day.

Yes, I am blessed with my DH.

This morning I walked around the track 10 times! Tomorrow I plan on doing it 11 times and Monday 12 times for 3/4 of a mile. I also plan on adding the stationary bike to my routine. I'm hoping to get a little more fit and to get some of my energy back through exercise.

This afternoon I have a CT of the chest and a CT of the abdomen. The chest is to determine the size of the embollism and the abdomen is to determine if the tumor has changed in 2 weeks. I'll give you a report tomorrow because I will be blessed to be home by 7:00 pm. By then I will be just a wee bit tired. Hopefully the tumor will remain unchanged. It's in God's hands, though.

Have a great and blessed day.

My DH woke me up at 5am with a breakfast of homemade pancakes and a love note on top of my box of syringes. What a way to start my day!

I hope that you all had as good a day as I did.

Lucky,
Things are getting better, just been eating too much fruits/veggies, too much fiber. It will get better again, got to get back on my normal eating pattern and exercising. My husband and I did a hike today, 8 miles, so that's a good start!! :-) We are both worn out now, but it felt really good to get out and walk.

Hope you are doing okay. Trying to get the rest of this weight off, got 15 pounds to my goal.
Take care,
Shannon

Shannon,

Hope that flare-up lets up soon and you can get back in the swing of things again. I'm sure it must be frustrating. Is your doctor recommending anything that's helping?

Lynda,

I'm glad you're enjoying the pineapple. I'm eating some everyday and it does to help the plumbing! If fresh pineapple is a little rough, canned might be easier - it's a little softer and I prefer canned (in its own juice) in smoothies.

I couldn't help but chuckle when I read about your comparison to the turtle. Remember the story of the tortoise and the hare? The tortoise won the race!!!

Many hugs,
Lucky

Thanks Lynda, congrats on the pineapple and walking. I've been out of my exercise routine for almost 2 weeks and I can tell the difference, I've got to get back in the swing of things soon. Hope you get to feeling better soon, be glad to be a turtle, it's those baby steps that turn into giant ones.

Hi Shannon, sorry you're in a flare up.

Lucky, the pineapple tasted great! Gave me a major belly ache, but I kept it down. I'm going to try the crushed pineapple tonight. The flavor was worth the belly ache. It was the best thing I've eaten in a year. It also helped the plumbing. Thanks for the suggestion. Now if I could only eat broccoli or cucumbers or asparagus, etc., etc., etc. You get my gist.

I went to the gym this morning and walked 9 laps around the gym. This is slightly more than 1/2 mile. I know that is turtle's pace for most of you, but in my condition I am thrilled to be named the king of the herd of the turtles. My goal is to eventually build up to 5K 3 times a week in less than an hour. But as long as I have this embollism in my jugular I'll be happy to be a turtle and strap on my walking shoes for a few laps around the track instead.

All in all, when you consider being a pineapple eating turtle, my life isn't so bad afterall.

Have a great and blessed day, everyone.

Great for you Lynda, I wish you the best at your renewal. Congratulations on 40 years, will be praying for your health issues, God is in control and can do all things.

I was diagnosed with Idiopathic GP Oct. 2006, living with this daily. Most of the time, things are okay, but as with most of us stress and changes in food cause it to flair up. I am in the middle of one of those flair ups. It will get better again I know. Just one of those things we live with.

Good luck with the tests and upcoming surgery. You are in my prayers.

My best friend's husband (who is also a friend of ours) is a Baptist pastor (we're Baptist). He has agreed to officiate at our renewal. It will be just him and my best friend, and us. The day will be Sunday, August 22nd, our actual 40th anniversary. The setting will be outdoors in North Little Rock at a place called The Old Mill. After the ceremony the four of us will go out to dinner. It is going to be very simple, but so meaningful and elegant. I would love to have my sons there but they have already said that they wouldn't be there. That's ok, they weren't there the first time either.
How does that sound?

Lynda,

What a great idea! DH and I renewed our vows about 8 years ago and it was so wonderful. It was just us and the monsignor. It was more special than the first time!

Have fun planning for it! And pick a special day! There's got to be a day that speaks to the specialness of your relationship and the hope you build upon.

Hugs,
Lucky

SOMEBODY, QUICK, PINCH ME SO THAT I WILL KNOW THAT I'M NOT DREAMING!!
MY DH AND I CELEBRATE OUR 40TH ANNIVERSARY NEXT MONTH. HE (NOT ME) SUGGESTED OVER COFFEE JUST A LITTLE WHILE AGO THAT WE RENEW OUR WEDDING VOWS. HE TOLD ME TO PLAN IT ANY WAY I WANT IT. HE DOES WANT ME TO BUY A NEW DRESS FOR THE OCCASION, BUT NOT UNTIL THE WEEK BEFORE BECAUSE AT THE RATE I'M "LOSING WEIGHT IT MIGHT NOT FIT." (HIS WORDS, NOT MINE.) HE IS SO EXCITED.

I THINK I KNOW HOW I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE IT DONE, AND I WILL DEFINITELY INCLUDE HIM IN THE PLANNING, BUT WHAT A SHOCK COMING FROM A MAN WHO I DIDN'T THINK HAD A ROMANTIC BONE IN HIS BODY. WELL, HE SURE FOOLED ME AND HAS HIDDEN ONE FOR ALMOST 40 YEARS.

THIS IS GOING TO BE SUCH A GREAT DAY!

Dear Lucky,
I wish I could answer all of your questions, but I don't have a single answer myself yet. This is the hardest part -- the not knowing. I just got a report from the first hospital where they discovered the embollism and found out that it is actually in the jugular. I have a ct scan next Thursday to determine the size of it now. Everything seems to be a hurry up and wait game at this point which is very frustrating to me. I know that God wants to teach me something in this, and it is probably patience, but I thought I had learned that -- obviously not enough. Please pray that I would be able to put complete trust in God and get rid of my fear (which I know comes from Satan). That would be the biggest thing you could do for me at this point. Thanks for your offer and willingness to help.

Hugs,
Lynda

Lynda,

I'm so sad to hear your latest news. Will you also be on chemotherapy and/or radiation? Will they do surgery first, after the infection is under control? How long before they think the pulmonary embolism will be dissolved?

I'll be praying for you and your husband. Please let me know if I can do anything to help!

Hugs,
Lucky

WELL, TEAM, THE DIAGNOSIS IS IN -- IT IS DEFINITELY TRANSITIONAL CELL CARCINOMA OF THE LEFT KIDNEY. THE DOCTOR WANTS TO DO ONE MORE TEST TO DETERMINE THE STAGE OF THE CANCER, BUT IN ORDER TO DO THAT I NEED TO BE UNDER GENERAL ANESTHESIA WHICH I CAN'T BE UNTIL THE PULMONARY EMBOLISM IS DISSOLVED. THIS COULD REALLY COMPLICATE THINGS. ALSO,TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE,I HAVE ANOTHER KIDNEY INFECTION WHICH MAY REQUIRE IV ANTIBIOTICS AGAIN, WHICH MEANS ANOTHER CENTRAL LINE. OH WELL, IT'S JUST THE WAY IT'S GOT TO BE I GUESS. I'M NOT SO MUCH DEPRESSED OR DISCOURAGED AS I AM JUST TIRED. HOWEVER, I HAVE A FEELING I'M GOING TO GET A LOT MORE TIRED BEFORE THIS IS ALL OVER.

THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT AND PRAYERS.

Great ideas! I have yet to try pineapple. I thought it had too much fiber in it and fiber is something that I was told I could NOT have at all. But it sounds so delicious. I agree with you about the Miralax. It is part of my regular diet. Without it I wind up in surgery. But pineapple sounds so much more enticing.

Last night I had a canteloup smoothie (crushed ice, 1/2 a canteloupe, 2 teaspoons of sugar blended together). This is a GREAT smoothie which I normally tolerate very well. However, after drinking a large glass of it, I spent most of the night vomiting.

Any other suggestions to keep me off the Miralax twice a day? I'm going to try the pineapple. The worst it can do is make me vomit and double over.

By the way, I get my official final diagnosis tomorrow afternoon. As the time draws closer, I am getting more and more nervous. I am trusting God yet at the same time I'm scared. That may seem like a contradiction but I don't believe it is simply because I am human and I am under attack by Satan who wants me to be frightened. Please pray for me.
Thanks.

Love you bunches,
Lynda

MMAKAZIPPY: When I get those burps, for me, it usually means I still have something on my stomach that hasn't digested. I've been trying two things that have been helping to some degree:

1. A very hot cup of herbal, uncaffeinated tea (my favs are Lemon Zinger or Raspberry Zinger - both by Celestial Seasonings). I take mine with a teaspoon of honey and drink it as hot and as rapidly as I can stand it. It starts things to moving down the line.

2. Pineapple. Pineapple has a digestive enzyme called bromaine. You can also try papaya; the digestive enzyme is papain - also used in meat tenderizers. These enzymes are also sold in health food stores, but for now I'm using the real thing.

I'm not usually one to try "alternative methods," but "modern science" isn't able to help me any longer. I'm back to being VERY careful as to what I eat. The pineapple, either fresh or canned chunks in its own juice (not syrup). I eat about a fourth to a third of a can. I put it in smoothies every morning (along with fat-free yogurt and some other frozen fruit, like strawberries). No, I still can't eat proteins or fiberous foods like salads or broccoli, but it helps me digest what I can eat, which gets stuck and I hate having to resort to Miralax everyday.

The thing with GP, what works for one doesn't mean it will work for another. So if you decide to try it, start out gradually.

Hugs,
Lucky

Thanks for the prayers, Mmakazippy. Yes, everyone has a right and a place to complain about their physical problems and this is the place. GP is the pits and I'm sorry that you have it. It complicates life on so many levels that those who don't have it cannot begin to understand. I'll pray for you and your gp issues. I hope you feel better soon.

continuing to pray for you Lynda. I hardly feel like I have any rights to complain when I think of how mild my health care issues are compared to others who post on here. I was wondering, when there are times I think I am physically hungry and my stomach growls but then I start belching alot..this makes me wonder if my body is confusing GP with hunger sometimes? It sounds dumb, but I dont' know how to explain it.

I WENT TO THE HEMATOLOGIST/ONCOLOGIST THIS MORNING. HE IS ALSO OF THE OPINION THAT I DO HAVE CANCER OF THE KIDNEY, BUT WANTS TO WAIT UNTIL THE CT SCAN TOMORROW FOR THE FINAL DIAGNOSIS. HE IS MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THE PULMONARY EMBOLISM AT THE MOMENT. HE'S PUT ME BACK ON TWO BLOOD THINNER SHOTS TWICE A DAY TO BEGIN TO DISSOLVE THE CLOT. THIS MAY CAUSE THE KIDNEY TO HEMMORAGE AGAIN. IT MAY TAKE UP TO 4 MONTHS TO DO THIS. IN THE MEANTIME THE SURGERY IS ON HOLD BECAUSE I CAN'T HAVE ANY GENERAL ANETHESIA UNTIL THE CLOT IS GONE. THIS IS NOT THE NEWS THAT I WANTED TO HEAR. OH WELL . . . BEFORE I LEFT HE GAVE ME HIS PERSONAL CELL PHONE NUMBER.

THAT'S ALL I KNOW AT THIS POINT.

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR PRAYERS.
