Trust me it is all not in your head, hang in there and it will get better. Just keep in touch with your fellow team, it is soo hard to get someone that does not know what it is to understand what it is like. Sometimes I try to trick my own self, so don't feel bad..

I have had all the symptoms for a year. They just finally diagnosed it last Wednesday. So 5 days I know isn't enough time to adjust lol. I keep finding that I talk myself out of believing it is the food making me sick. I see a food I love and tell myself that no, it won't make me sick. The nausea and pain is just all in my head. GAH! I need GP boot camp! lol

khalve,
How long have you been diagnosed with GP? I have had it for a while and you never really get over wanting the taste of food. I like you, love flavor, garlic, cinnamon, salsa, you name it. When this hit, me, i thought i was gonna die. I come from a big Southern cooking family and that is all we do.. lol lol lol.. You learn to adjust. You learn to cook with other stuff that won't bother you. Try Ms. Dash blends, they don't seem to bother me when i bake chicken or when i roast potatoes.
As far as eating and wanting things, the thought of HOW SICK i get when i eat it, makes me not eat it!! I had my one slip and ate that cheeseburger, but NEVER AGAIN!!! THE NAUSEA AND PAIN ARE SOOO NOT WORTH IT!!! The feeling for that will pass, because you will remember being sick from eating it and it will so not be worth it in the end. The only thing that i crave more and more and can't tolerate is my chocolate milk. GOSH how i miss that!! Good luck !!

I am having such a hard time because I LOVE flavor. I love spicy foods, I love sauces.....and I love lots of it. I am getting so bored with food that I find myself "cheating" by sneaking bites of bad food. Which is so stupid of me because it is ME who pays for it by getting super sick! So why do I do it!??!?!
How long is it going to take before I finally don't crave the foods that make me sick?
I too crave cheeseburgers. I know they will make me super miserable if I eat them, but I so badly want one along with greasy fries. So bad!

DIVA,

In reply to why do we give in to something we know isn't good for us? We're only human, and if you've gone a long time without something you miss, like a comfort food, it's easy to think, we'll, I've been feeling good lately, surely I can have it this time and be OK. When we get sick from something we've had on our Do Not Eat list, we'll remember it loud and clear the next time.

I think that is one area where GP is very tricky. If you've been OK--no vomiting, nausea under control--then the GP tricks you into thinking you're better when most likely you're not.

The important thing is to remember what you learned from it, and don't beat yourself up. You'll only feel worse!

Life's an adventure ... take it one step at a time and don't underestimate yourself! You're capable of more than you think you are! How do I know this? You're still here aren't you? That means you haven't given up!

Hi DIVA and 2009,

Sorry to hear you both are spending a lot of time in the Lady's. I hope you all have some good anti-nausea medication, and don't forget, if you're losing food you can't keep down, or running to the bathroom for the other reason, please keep yourself hydrated! If you can tolerate a multivitamin, I'd take it.

Go really easy on your stomach. Baby it today with as bland as food as you can find, no soda (fizzy stuff can aggravate), no coffee (OK, if you have to--limit it to as little as possible), and try to find comfort in some starches until your tummy isn't so sore. Other possible options: jello, potatoes (no fries), rice (chicken and rice soup would be very beneficial, but take out the chicken), bananas, bagels with margarine instead of cream cheese.

I think you can see where this is going: nothing greasy or fried, nothing with fiber--including meat, nothing too sweet. All of these take longer to digest and increase the chances of you getting sick again. The blander it is, the better chance you'll have in keeping it down. Severe vomiting, IMO, is similar to abdominal surgery, and keeping your stomach in neutral is about the best you can do.

HTH.

HELLO!!! Yeppers. Even good food will set me off.
I was sick most of the week by eating 3z's of turkey cutlet. It was too densed.
Thursday I ate 2 Rolaids, 5 guys hamburger, fries and almost 1/2 bottle of vinegar malt.
Sat on the toilet with a trash can...Why didi I wait so long? Keeping everything light. Stomach feels great.
I guess my story is...if you must...go for it! Then place it on your ELIMINATION list. emoticon

O.K. I am at confessional.. I was horrible to my body the other day. It really let me know it and it should have. I have been doing SO well, with my eating and keeping up with calories and salt intake and things like that. Well, I was having a bad day and thought, "screw it" I am going to have a cheeseburger and feel better.. ha ha ha.. was I wrong. Cheeseburgers used to be one of my comfort foods. Well, they are not my ANYTHING anymore. I got me a cheeseburger, put stuff on it, sat down to eat it, and got 1/4 of the way through and could not eat anymore!!! I guess that was good that I did not eat the whole thing, but was SICK AS ALL GET OUT!!! the whole night..
Why do we find ourselves in that situation? Why are we so abusive to our own selves?
Has anyone else been in this situation? I feel bad still that I ate it and mad at myself because I had been doing so well, and failed.
Thanks for letting me vent.
