twice a week i do a cardio routine

i am careful how i eat and drink - then try to use those calories plus use a few more stored-fat calories

i've lost 30 pounds and kept it off but should loose more

When I'm very, very good, I'll do cardio 4 - 5 times a week for 45+ minutes. emoticon I'll strength train 1 - 2 times a week. emoticon

When my time is limited, as it is on Weds. evenings, and I only have 30 mins. for cardio, I make sure to make those 30 mins. count and ramp up the intensity of my workout. For instance the elliptical I use claims I'm burning between 400-450 calories in those 30 mins. Now I don't take those numbers to the bank, but I DO know I'm pretty soaking wet with sweat after those 30 mins. are up...lol!

Also there is much benefit health-wise AND calorie wise by using High Intensity within our cardio workouts.

Good to hear. thank you all. I had a desk job, I try to get up through out the day and do my steps. I do my workouts for cardio at night but usually not more than 30-45 minutes.

- If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got.

A very common misconception or distortion is the degree to which cardio burns calories and torches pounds.

Cardio is WONDERFUL for toning our bodies, losing inches, dropping our blood pressure and other benefits. However cardio for losing WEIGHT is a most daunting challenge and it's really a mistake to look at cardio as a weight loss strategy.

An hour of hard core cardio might burn approximately 600-800 calories depending on gender, body size and intensity of your workout.

The much smarter weight loss strategy is to be very mindful of our food choices. Diligently use the food tracker and take a look at not only the quantity of calories but the QUALITY of calories. Keep your food as real and unprocessed as possible. Avoid cans & boxes...most are sodium bombs guaranteed to bump up weight.

As for your workouts? Nobody knows your body like you. It sounds like you are challenging yourself pretty well. Keep bumping up where and when you can and you'll do fine.

Here's an insight I'll share: I used to do cardio relentlessly 30-60 mins. daily, no breaks! I thought I could work off excessive calories and eat "intuitively" without bothering with the food tracker and I would do fine.

Not SO! I STILL packed on the pounds. I learned you can't work off bad food choices. When I returned to using the nutrition tracker and limited my carbohydrate consumption to approximately half of SparkPeople's recommendation the weight came off and stayed off. What's more, beforehand I used to compulsively do my cardio, thinking if I missed my cardio my weight would pop up!

But I found relief when using the nutrition tracker and found I could cut back to 3-4 cardio workouts a week and still maintain / lose the pounds. It's been nice to relax about cardio and no longer be so compulsive about it.

Hi there,

I was wondering from everyone, how much cardio do you do per day and how often per week? Im steadily only losing .5 or 1lb a week. I eat the 1200 calories a day, with the occasional cheats of upto 1600 calories a day. Its says to maintain my weight to eat 2200 cal a day so i know im still okay. However, when i do my cardio, I do the elliptical from 25-45 a day and only 3 or 4x a week. I see some people do 90 minutes a day 5x a week. I want to hear everyone's regimen with the cardio, Im really sore after the days i do above 30 minutes even though ive been doing this for months... thanks in advance...
