I'm araid I have gained to much this month and the doctor will be upset again. Last month I gained 4# and if the scale doesn't move by tomorrow morning I went up again 4#. I know some of it is water weight but the last doctor didn't seem to be impressed. I see a new one tomorrow. I don't have a doctor but will get to chose one of 4 that are for high risk pregnancies. So far I only really like my nurse practitioner. LOL Next month is another shot. I am currently 20 weeks come Tuesday. YIPPEE!!!

Thanks, y'all, for bringing this up.

I think most of us on Spark have either lost a bunch of weight, or were trying to lose before getting pregnant. I lost 60 lbs (1/3 my body weight), and just gained 4lbs even though I'm still only in my first trimester.
I'm trying not to freak out because the BOTTOM LINE is: if you gain 10lbs too much, it's not dangerous for the baby, but if you gain 10lbs too little, it could be.

You will also "lose" the weight from the baby, placenta, and amniotic fluid in one day--so you won't REALLY have 25-35lbs to lose, more like 15-25(max) if you gain the recommended amount. And a lot of that is increased blood volume (which you will lose fairly quickly), and the fact that your uterus is enlarged (it will take a bit to shrink--and no dieting or exercise will help.)

I got this info from online articles. :)
There's no one-size-fits-all approach to pregnancy weight gain. How much weight you need to gain depends on various factors, including your pre-pregnancy weight and body mass index (BMI). Your health and your baby's health also play a role. Work with your health care provider to determine what's right for you.
Consider these general guidelines for pregnancy weight gain:
Pre-pregnancy weight Recommended weight gain
Underweight (BMI less than 18.5) 28 to 40 pounds (about 13 to 18 kilograms)
Normal weight (BMI 18.5 to 24.9) 25 to 35 pounds (about 11 to 16 kilograms)
Overweight (BMI 25 to 29.9) 15 to 25 pounds (about 7 to 11 kilograms)
Obese (BMI 30 or more) 11 to 20 pounds (about 5 to 9 kilograms)
All I could find on weight gain per trimester is if you are starting at a normal weight there is this guideline:
Healthy weight before pregnancy:
1-4.5 pounds during the first trimester
Approximately 1-2 pounds per week in the second and third trimesters.

I'm petrified of gaining to much weight. I was 189 when I had my Anna. 12 yrs ago to boot. I finally get down to a confortable weight and BAM. Now I'm afraid of being as big as a house again. I am so afraid of gaining to much weight. Dr says 25-35# is healthy for a pregnancy but if I gain 35# I will weigh more than what I weighed when I started the journey. :0( I need to get a grip.

Even a 10 minute walk is good for the bones, heart, and muscles. So far, the exhaustion is hitting almost every other day so I try to just work hard on the day I feel good and nap on the other days.

Being tired all the time will leave you for a bit in your second trimester, which is where I am at and some days I am so full of energy you can't stop me and I feel so good I don't even feel pregnant. Wait for those days because if you are feeling really tired your body is telling you to rest and you should,I slept for 2 months straight! When the good days come, take advantage of them to get light aerobic exercising in, like walking. The food you consume is nutrition for the baby and it sounds like you have a grip on that, wish I did, I feel like I eat more crap than healthy foods. About feeling insecure I just recently had to remind my husband that during this time I need more reassurance out of him that he still finds me attractive and loves me and loves our future child, which I know he does but with the hormones raging through us we need to hear it and often! Question- Have you had any crying spells yet, if not get ready, they come out of nowhere. Anyway I really suggest talking to your hubby honestly. And if you don't get the results you want you always have me because I am right there with you on all your feeling! ;)
BTW: There are some good articles in the Oct/Nov issue of the Fit Pregnancy magazine I think will help too. Wishing you well!

About two years ago, I lost 25 pounds and got down to a healthy weight. After going through a very hard divorce, then finding my now-husband, I stopped exercising, COMPLETELY, and the pounds/inches started creeping up. I now just want to focus on the health of my baby. I want to start exercising (even just short walks -- anyone else just so dang tired?), and regain some fitness before labor/delivery. I want to think of the food I consume as nutrition for the baby. But I'm finding myself fighting fears that the weight gain -- and I do seem to have suddenly "popped" -- will be permanent, that I cannot control it, that I will be less attractive to my hubby. I know it is self-defeating, but I'm having a hard time resisting the negative thoughts. Any words of encouragement? Lori
