Hi Lisa and welcome to the team. I just saw your post on a BLC thread. So nice to see you here too.

I am Sunny and my soldier is in the Army. He is not serving in a war zone right now but we know how fast that situation can change. I am so impressed that your son volunteered to go to Afganistan. He/They are all so brave and we do need to keep them all in our prayers.

Take care and I look forward to getting to know you better as we all take this journey to health, fitness, and weight loss.

Dearest Moms:

I am overcome with your emotion and John's injuries! My son left on his first deployment to Afghanistan (he calls it a half baked land) in May. He is 33 and it has always been his plan to serve with his comrades. He volunteered for this duty and I am astounded by his strength and desire to make the world a little better place. He is Air Force but is on loan to the Army for this assignment. I started out praying for his safety and then my prayers began to grow to cover all of our children serving. This week they have grown to include faces I have seen in pictures coming home and I don't know their names but their Moms are out there worrying and maybe even one of you. We were blessed this week with coverage in a very hostile area that came from the Black Lions. Are there any Black Lions out there? My heart and soul goes out to all of you and especially you Barb. Your hearts and daughters/sons are in my prayers. We will pray for John and visualize a quick physical and mental recovery for him as I know this is the wish of everyone's hearts. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and prayers as I have found strength in them.

Lisa

Barb. I'd been looking in the wrong place for your posts, and where to post. DUH . . . forgot about this thread until I read Eda's note. Thank you Eda, for the whack upside the head!
I'm so happy that John is back in AK. I know that gives you a tremendous amount of relief! I hope that you will be able to fly up to see him.
I can't add much more than everyone else has said today. Know that we are all here for you and to support John in our prayers, too. Sending you loving vibes, and healing vibes to John.

I'm SO glad to hear that John is back in Alaska where you can see him and help him to recover. Will continue prayers for his healing and well being. When it's time for him to redeploy I'll join you in prayer for his protection & safety. Just a coincidence, but my son Jared also graduated Basic from Ft. Leonard Wood. If you look at my avatar, I'm wearing a T shirt that Jared bought for me when he was there, at Basic. It says 'Ft. Leonard Wood'.

Be sure to keep us posted on his progress & healing. God bless John & all of your family. emoticon

YOU have a JON too! It's amazing. Yes, that's the exact reasoning that my John gave for wanting to go back . . . to keep his unit together. Hoo boy. Yes, it is hard to let things unfold as they may, but no other choice. So, for right now, going to focus on healing emotionally myself, helping him however is possible to heal physically, emotionally and spiritually. Then off to visit him in Alaska when we are told we can. Hurray.

Can you say Mama Bear Hug!

I pray for our soldiers' safety and for ys. Sanity . . . I suppose it's highly overrated????? LOL

Sunny: Yes, I hope he doesn't rush things too. Right now he's on bedrest, so that'll cool his jets for a bit! Poor guy, I know he's not happy with that!

HUGS

What a relief to hear that he is back in Alaska. I agree with Barb that he take time to heal and not rush back before he is ready.

Hang in there Barb and know we will be here for you. Bless your Momma Heart! It is tough being a Military Momma - isn't it?

What a relief to know your John is back on US Soil for now. What was said earlier about him wanting to go back and complete the mission? That was the attitude *my* Jon (see, another thing we have in common, our son's names are even similar, not just our own) had after his experience. He wanted that unit together... he wanted his buddies' loss not to be in vain. I was both scared for him and proud of him all at the same time.

My prayer for your John is that he heal, patiently and not rush back before he's ready. And for you, sanity and peace as this all unfolds, beyond your control!

emoticon Barb, and holding you up every day in prayer.

Personally? I think it would be HORRIBLE to know about something like this 2 wks. after the fact! But the reality is . . . can't change reality. I feel lucky I DID learn of it.

John just landed in Alaska about 20 minutes ago. Got a text. HOOZA!

Prayers for all our soldiers, and us. I hope your DD is recuperating too. Enough is enough, isn't it!

I'm so glad your son is coming home(stateside) to heal.It is horrible to hear that he will be re-deployed after he heals. It is so hard on the families not not knowing what is going on with our children after they are wounded. You are in limbo until you can talk to your child and hear from them that they will be OK.I don't know if it was a good thing that the army forgot to inform me about my child being injured.I would of been in worse hysterics if I had to wait the almost two weeks before she was finally able to contact me.I pray that you will see John soon and he heals with the help of his families love.God bless your family and your son emoticon

FITNHEALTHY: You have said a mouthful! I did NOT want to hear the words re-deploy but I think part of that is HIS doing exactly as you said . . . going to be with his buddies again. Definitely. So, I am mentally prepared, but I will put that on my worry plate when I need to.

And my son has had the same experience. The 3rd day of his tour (he's only been there 8 days) he lost 3 comrades with whom he's graduated from Ft. Leonard Wood. Hard to process. Then his own traumatizing experience. Well, that's on helluva first week I'd say.

Moving on. Our last text from John last night said he was going to be transferred back to Ft. Wainwright today, so we'll see. I hope so!

Thanks for your words, wisdom and comfort. ALL us Military Moms/families are the best! Of course, so are our soldiers.

I want to personally thank you for putting out the blog requesting prayers. Truthfully, I just saw it today. THANK YOU for doing that. You can't know how much that means to me. THANK YOU!

Prayers and hugs for our soldiers and us.

God is good! I hope you were able to take this information and get some rest Barb.

As to re-deploying....in the USMC which when I'm being a mom and not a marine we often refer to as the big green suck, that is often what happens if the injuries are not "that" severe so in THAT sense it is a good thing that he is being rehabbed and then re-deployed. Barb, so many times the young soldier, sailor, marine ASKS to be back with their buddies. Again not something a mom wants to hear but it is pride and honor and commitment and so much more all part of him now. It is all of the values that you instilled in him, part of who he is and more of who he became the day he became officially a soldier in the Army and part of that band of brothers. emoticon

Our son is 23 and recently returned from his first deployment. He saw three marines die in his first weeks in Afghanistan and many here and even there ASS.U.ME.d that he'd be fine because his dad is a war veteran - an active duty marine - and that is the life Derek was raised in. Well Derek had never been to war. Derek had never seen his comrades in arms killed. Derek had never been in that kind of situation at ALL and quite honestly his dad and most war vets do NOT speak of those things and that, dear moms is why we have some of the problems we do when they come home - bottled up fear, sadness, anger. They never properly grieve those losses. They don't know how and the services don't handle it well.

Stepping down off my soapbox now....I LOVE the military and the USMC in particular but we have a LONG way to go in order to care for our men and women who have served our country proudly and well and are heroes time and time again.

Barb, oh how I am so sorry to read what has happened, and that John has lost 3 of his friends. Know that I will keep John and you in my prayers. I will also visualize protection for John. I am so glad to hear that he is talking to the chaplain. This is so hard on our sons and daughters to see this kind of thing. I do believe that God will help to take his pain and give him the strength he needs. You know you have all of us to lean on, and even though we can't be there physically with you, we are most definitely there in spirit. We are all sending you our loving vibes and sending John healing vibes, and keeping you both in our prayers.

Thanks so much. Yes, ye graduated from Ft. Leonard Wood, MO on 6 July. He was assigned to Ft. Wainwright, Alaska and landed there on 23 July. He was deployed just last Monday. **SIGH** In that time 3 of his comrades were killed (on Wednesday by an IED) and he had graduated with them. I shook hands with them @ graduation. **SIGH**

This thread that I hadn't seen before answers one of my questions about where John is. Seems that in the past month the situation and tensions in Afghanistan have only heightened, becoming more treacherous every day.

I will keep praying for John and so hope they will ship him Stateside for recovery as soon as possible so you can be near him to help him regain his spirits and health. God will lift both of you up and will give you courage and the ability to do whatever is necessary in the coming weeks & months. There is a huge support group here for you. We send our prayers.

I second that prayer, Barb. It is so much harder because we can't live it for them, and as MOMs we so want to take away their pain, both physical and emotional...

Dear Lord, help John find purpose to fight for his recovery and bring him home to his Mother's loving arms.

I am heartbroken, but not for me . . . for him. He's been there exactly one week . . . almost to the hr. In that time he has seen 3 of his comrades die. How horrible is that! Horrible, as we all know all too well.

This is just so much for me as a MOm to bear, but so much more for HIM to bear.

I keep repeating the prayer over and over for God to give him strength to fight and heal.

Barb, dear Barb. Hugs, prayers and tears. So sad that this experience has come into your life. No one can live through this for you, much as we might identify with you and be by your side as you walk through it. But we CAN and DO lift you up in our prayers.

Numbness is a normal defense mechanism to news so awful you can't face it right now. Walk, breathe. I know you were already reeling from the loss of his buddies. As much as we can be over the miles, we are with you in spirit.

Do keep us up on how you're doing and what's happening, and know you are enfolded in the love of all the Blue Star Moms.

When I saw the title of this thread, I also felt some dread about reading it. Bless your Momma Heart. I hope and pray your find more out about the situation today.

Our Dear Heavenly Father, Please be with this soldier and any other soldiers who may have been injured. Lay your Healing Hands upon John's body and give him comfort from any pain that he may have as a result of this injury. Give Barb peace and comfort her, Lord Jesus, as she waits for any additional news. Though kindred and friends be far away, let thy grace be their comfort. Raise John to health again giving them faith in You on this healing journey. In your name I pray, Amen

I just came here to ask for prayers for you and found that you had posted. I am so glad that you came for support. You are absolutely surrounded by the support and prayers of sparkland and here so many who know what you are going through. When my husband was a battalion commander, I came to DREAD the calls in the night just hating that someone's mom or wife had to get the news at ALL but to know what that call means having received it myself personally, I just HATED it. Holding you in my closest thoughts and deepest prayers sweetie. Semper Fi.....and for John - Hooah!!!!

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, favorite cocktail in one hand - strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming holy sh*t - WHAT A RIDE!

Got information around midnight (9 am Afghani time). John was wounded, apparently severely. Think it's a leg wound, don't know. No other flippin' information, so we're just waiting.

Alll I ask is prayers. I am just on empty.

Love is the root of all things good in life.
