Putting the Kingdom of God first in my life is my goal and laying aside the things of this world and seeking for the things of a better. So changing my focus from the sweetness of sugar to the sweetness of Jesus is well connected to this.

Thought I would share a poem I wrote today.

"I Quit Loving You Today"

A strong desire is what is termed a yen
It's come to me this year two thousand ten.
I have a yen for cake right now.
I'll overcome temptation somehow.
Ah ha, I've changed my yen from cake to Him.

1 Cor. 6:19-20 "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."

First off, I must say I love your profile pic. It is just too cute for words.

I have heard that thee are some meetings which are geared for people who cannot make it to thier regular wards, for people who work shift work, etc. The family who gives me a ride to church each week, was telling me he used to go to one once apon a time in a land far away.....

Maybe you could see if there is one like that in your area.

I know what you mean about not being able to stay away though. I have insomnia so am always sleepy exhausted, and often nod off in church (or at my desk at work, or when visiting my sis, or on the bus, or.... I could go on but.....) It is usually only for 5 or 10 minutes at a time though and often only for a minite or so. My sis asked the doc about it and he said because I get so little sleep anyway, they should just let me sleep even if it is in church.

Good luck to you.

YOU WOMEN ARE WAY A HEAD OF ME, YOU PUT ME TO SHAME, I HAVEN'T BEEN TO CHURCH FOR NEARLY 2 YEARS, I WORK GRAVEYARDS 7P-7A ON SATURDAY SO I SIMPLY CANNOT STAY AWAKE FOR CHURCH. I STILL BELIEVE MYSELF TO BE A GOOD MEMBER OF THE CHURCH AND LIVE ALL THE COVENANTS I MADE IN THE TEMPLE. BUT ON SO MANY LEVELS I LACK. I NEED TO BE A FULL TITHING PAYER WHICH IS IMPOSSIBLE RIGHT NOW AND I AM STILL SO ANGRY ABOUT MY DIVORCE THAT I DON'T KNOW THAT I CAN EVER FORGIVE HIM. I AM STILL STUCK IN THE I HATE HIM AND I MISS HIM. IT DOES GET EASIER AS LONG AS I KEEP MY DISTANCE FROM HIM. IT WAS THE BEST THING I EVER DID FOR MYSELF. UNTIL THEN I COULDN'T HEAL. I AM DOING GOOD AND GOD HAS FURNISHED ME WITH A GOOD JOB AND WONDERFUL FRIENDS. THANKS FOR THE INSPIRATION AND I HOPE TO NOT LET YOU DOWN.

I agree that we are a very goal oriented church. I think that we realize that we are here to learn grow and improve ourselves and others. I think that really helps us.

How does knowing your are a daughter of Heavenly Father help you in your goal setting? I am trying to work that into my toughs more. I read some place that if we realized who we could be we would be in awe of that person. It is an amazing thought.

I am grateful as far as weight loss goals that we don't have to be swayed by every "study" that comes out. Some we just know that it is not going to pay off in the long run.

I am a scout leader. I realized through several meetings for primary that everything we do is to return ourselves and others to Christ. Do our goals help us to do that. Are they bringing us closer to Christ.

Just now I was thinking about how much I am trying to eliminate negative self talk. I am sure that is not bringing me closer to Christ.

I hope others will comment. I think we can really help each other with this and learn a great deal.

What I love about setting goals is that they are in line with what the church teaches us:
Stay on track,
treat yourself and others with respect,
review / educate yourself,
focus,
clear away the clutter,
refrain from idle time (or too much of it),
be patient,
learn from your mistakes,
pay attention,
listen, and
what is most rewarding is to help others because our "problems and situations" take care of themselves when we are there for others.

When you think about it we live in a goal oriented church. Hold FHE, pray often, read your scriptures, I could go on and on but these are all goals that we strive for. Our priesthood holders have PPIs. Our youth have bishop's interviews. Both PPIs and bishop's interviews are just a reaffirmation on our goal setting and how we are doing.

In our family we give each one of our children a PPI(personal parental interview, lol) before the start of each school year. We ask them what their goals are and write them down. We tell them what we would like for them to work on as well. We then go over each goal and make a plan on how they are going to work towards and eventually achieve their goals. They have been pretty good about achieving them.

I am reading "The Spark" right now which isn't a church book, it is written by Chris Downie,"SparkGuy" who is the founder of SparkPeople. It really is on goal setting. SparkPeople is such a great resource for setting goals. In fact, January's calander has it all mapped out. www.sparkpeople.com/resource/calenda
r_
2007-01.pdf
and as I was looking up that link I also found this one www.sparkpeople.com/resource/motivat
io
n_articles.asp?id=398
It is nice to have these resources here and I feel they help me to be a better person spiritually as well. SparkGuy calls it the crisscross effect, how bettering yourself in one area helps you in others.

"Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are but princesses that are waiting to see us act just once with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything terrible is in its deepest essence, something helpless that needs our love." -Rainer Maria Rilke

One thing I have noticed, is that often "studies" show things are supposedly "good for this or that" that go against our beliefs.

For example, a glass of wine a day helps prevent ....

Most recently, drinking green tea helps loose weight, but it works better when combined with caffeene.....

To me, it doesn't matter what the studies suggest. I will not drink that glass of wine or cup of green tea. (not only because it goes against the Word of Wisdom, but also because I really don't like the taste.....)

There are other ways to obtain my goals. The Lord will show me the way without my resorting to such trickery.

I want to think about this some more. But, I want to make my goals a bigger part of my prayers. Asking for assistance with my goals with my morning prayers and showing gratitude for the strength I am given through out the day.

I am sure I will think of more as the discussion moves on.

How do your beliefs affect your goal setting?

I will find some talks and such tomorrow. But, I wanted to give everyone a chance to reply first.
