GREBJACK, I don't know how SP comes up with calorie or other goals for individuals. If no one here has the answer, try the Community tab, above, then Message Boards. The Site/Tech Help description suggests that it's the place to ask. The Fitness/Exercise board would be my second choice. The SP coaches are helpful and quick to respond.

That's quite an admirable list of goals you've outlined. Knowing what I know of you, you will achieve them all.

Anybody know how SparkPeople comes up with the calorie goal on my nutrition page? Yesterday, I ate about 1800 calories and it said I was under by about 400 calories. Today, I ate about 1800 calories and it said I was over by about 400 calories? Both days, I just ate when I was hungry, and there were lots of freggies in there, so I'm cool with it, but I wonder why the big difference. ???

As for my health and fitness goals for this month/ year,

emoticon I have a food goal to continue packing freggies to take to school every day. I did a lot of this in January but it's not a habit yet and I want it to become one. It's good for my health and it makes me happy at lunchtime.

emoticon I'm on a squats goal for the year that includes doing the 100 squats challenge with uneven squats in February. And donkey kicks are my rest day exercise.

emoticon Have an annual goal of 5 million steps for the year, which means holding my 14000 steps a day. January was good - gotta keep it goin' in February.

emoticon And this is the one I won't make, but I'm gonna try. Now that I've been able to join the Y again, goal is to average half an hour a day for the month, not just working out, but working out at the Y. Lack of membership was my excuse NOT to do stuff before, so having a membership should be my reason to do stuff now.

I am struggling to get back on track, meal-wise, so my February goal is to eat within my calorie range as many days as possible this month.

Getting older is better than the alternative!

I'm reinstating my Y membership TODAY. (yay!) So let me know when is a good time for you to visit McBurney.

Rebecca-GREBJACK,

I apologize for taking so long to reply. Your suggestion would be fun. I'd have to double-check, but I believe that I can take a guest into the E14th Y as a one-time bonus. If memory serves, I'm also able to go to other Y's with my current membership card(s) -- as long as they offer "Silver Sneakers" classes, and I wouldn't even have to be attending one. Again, that needs confirmation.

With its dreadful, neon-sign-above-one's-head name, Silver Sneakers is an outfit serving older folks. Many Y's, private gyms, et al., around the country are affiliated. SS and its Y membership component are benefist of my medical plan.

Yes, I'm considered "older" and I should like to know when that happened.

My Y membership was citywide, so maybe when I reinstate it we can make plans to go to the 14th Street Y together. I remember, in my gung-ho October, that McBurney has the adult volleyball league.

SP challenges are fun ways to get started on your fitness journey!
No, LAURIE I don't belong to the Y. Congrats on your 30-pound loss, emoticon

Gia, it's nice to see you again, even though you've swapped your photo to a doodad. It's also nice that you have hope in your heart for this group.

You make me feel ashamed yet encouraged. I've never even looked at any of the SP challenges. A quick scan of the offerings tells me that there are things even this disorganized, not-quite-committed woman can take on. Thank you for that. I shall pick one before the day is done and then see about adding another at the same time.

Long ago I posted to ask if anyone belongs to the Y on East 14th St. and actually uses the gym. I have a membership, but for reasons I won't burden anyone with, can't get myself to go. I know I would if I had someone even to walk in with. We wouldn't have to do the same things -- I'm way behind anyone, I'm sure. I'd lost a lot of weight, regained a good part of it and have begun to eat decently again -- have lost about 30 lbs since July and am still working on it. Exercise is sorely missing. Anyone?
